The Hindu newspaper today stood by its report on President Maithripala Sirisena’s remark at the last Cabinet meeting on RAW’s plot to assassinate him.

The Sri Lankan government has so far issued three denials of the story and President Sirisena, in a telephone conversation, with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also assured that he never made such a remark.
N.Ram, the Chairman of Kasturi & Sons Limited, the publisher of Hindu, and the former Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper said this morning that ‘The Hindu’ told the truth when the newspaper said that President Sirisena accused RAW of plotting to kill him.
“Another case of saying something wild & bizarre, expecting it to remain within a closed room, and then blaming the media for the furore caused. The Hindu did its job — truth-telling,” he tweeted.
“Our Sri Lanka Correspondent verified what she had learnt with multiple independent sources before publishing her report. Let them issue their lame denials, try to wriggle out of what was said — but we stand by our Correspondent’s meticulously fact-checked story,” he added.
Sirisena’s controversial statement was also followed by an intense argument with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe when the subject of development of the Colombo Port came up for discussion. The Hindu newspaper said Sirisena vehemently objected to any Indian involvement in upgrading its east container terminal – a project that New Delhi has been keen to take up.
“However, Mr. Wickremesinghe is said to have countered by saying Colombo had already promised New Delhi on collaborating on the project, and it was important to rope in India at the terminal, given that about 80% of the cargo handled at the transhipment hub was meant for India. He reportedly sought a week’s time to sort out the issue, since he would be meeting Mr. Modi soon ,” the Hindu newspaper added.

Cabinet Meeting is where the President/PM/Ministers discuss national issues in confidential nature.
The President has every right to take up the assassination plot, which was revealed by a Police informant, episode-by-episode, who happened to be visited by an Indian national residing in Sri Lanka since 2017, “without any income” making everyone to be suspicious of him to be a RAW agent. When the news of him was circulated in the mainstream, the Indian HC ‘voluntarily’ and promptly informed that the man was mentally ill.
At the moment, CID is carrying out an investigation amidst the information that the Police informant “has made his way” to be in close proximity with the President as a volunteer working in President’s Drug Prevention Initiative.
From the very beginning I maintain the fact that there is someone behind this Police informant. I’m not talking about the DIG in question as the audio, it seems, doesn’t carry any conversation involving him in the plot. What is unfolding looks like an artfully written script which is now in public domain for unknown reasons.
Back to “Hindu.”
The last para of this article (a quote from “The Hindu”) says, the PM has informed at the meeting that he has “promised” 80% of the cargo handling at the Colombo Eastern Terminal to be given to India!!! How could he promise without the consent of the President and the Cabinet?
The penultimate para, (again a quote from “The Hindu”) talks about an argument erupted between the President and the PM where the former has vehemently objected to any Indian involvement in the upgrading, “a project” which is described by “The Hindu” “ New Delhi has been keen to take up!!!!!”
The motive/anger behind the article is obvious, isn’t it?

N. Ram’s statement accusing the President for “saying something wild & bizarre, expecting it to remain within a closed room” is going too far for a foreign newspaper which is trying to downplay the capabilities of RAW which in turn is suspicious. And since when the Sri Lanka President needs the approval of an Indian newspaper to conduct his business?
The extremely strong words such as “wild & bizarre” used by N. Ram, a mere newspaper publisher, shows their animosity towards something. What could that be?
Who “The Hindu” think they are?
They have either infiltrated someone to Sri Lankan President’s confidential Cabinet Meetings or bribed some Ministers for inside information and now barking when they caught red handed with a bizarre story!
The story is clearly a made up and with President’s denial, “The Hindu” has lost their credibility.
However, as “The Hindu” themselves have boldly admitted that they have access to Sri Lankan President’s confidential meetings, one wonder whether they are privy to President’s and former President’s security arrangements too, in which case a thorough assessment on the safety and security of both the current and former Presidents is imperative.

When somebody look at this forum from outside it is very obvious Sri Lankans are racists and all Sri Lankan forums sound nasty. IT IS IMPORTANT FOR Sri Lanka to get rid of racism and place firm legislation against racism. Looks like it is going to be difficult for Sri Lanka to do away with racism because the top Politicians depend on racism and use racism to come back to power. It is very surprising even after the UN and the international community offering help to Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka agreeing for getting over the longstanding problems responsible for the Country going down, nothing is done good for the Country by its own Leaders. As far as India is concerned there is no doubt how India is handling its very much divisive religions, and ethnicities efficiently without a problem. There is no weakness for concern among Indian Leaders as there is no necessity for India to depend on other Countries. Dignity and world wide reputation for relationship, business and otherwise India is at the top of the world and Sri Lanka is too much behind. It is sad for Sri Lankans even there is a way the very leaders chose the bad way perhaps for immediate personal gains resulting in long term suffering.
