The Illusionist

Manipulation, fuelled with good intent, can be a blessing. But when used wickedly, it is the beginning of a magician’s karmic calamity.”  ― T.F. Hodge, From Within I Rise

Watch him closely and with circumspection. Our former President, Mahinda Rajapaksa, never goes and comes; he appears and disappears. It is the sorcerer’s or magician’s skill that he employs to good effect.Like the sorcerer, he concentrates on effect. Hirunika Premachandra, promising young female MP, in a recent Satana TV program perceptively characterised Mahinda Rajapaksa as an actor par excellence. She is dead right.

Throughout his rule Mahinda exhibited this characteristic and even now, while in opposition, he shows how adept he is at this magician’s game. Recall the images where Mahinda appeared in many public places with several shining gold rings on his fingers and the concealed hypnotising device known as the washee bole? On such occasions, Mahinda used to wave his hand in a spell-like fashion. Like Sai Baba, Mahinda Rajapaksa materialises.

Well, that defines the essence of the man who ruled Sri Lanka for ten long years and is now scheming a come-back to taste power, again. He never, ever took the real responsibilities of governance seriously. Mahinda had been a playboy in his youth running around, like his son Namal now, in cars. He found his way to be President of the country also in a pretty magical way, turning defeat by Ranil Wickremesinghe into victory for himself allegedly by winning over Prabhakran with a bribe. That he never governed with any professionalism is obvious to the plainest mind. Never caring about the quality of the men he chose as Ministers and about their capability in managing the portfolios he gave them, he rather preferred only their loyalty obtaining that voluntarily or by hook and crook. Unlike the less opulent authoritarian Premadasa before him, Mahinda cared little about monitoring his Ministers’ progress. Premadasa over-monitored and got into hot water. Not so, Rajapaksa; he didn’t give a damn about the progress and performance of his Ministers. Never spoke a word against corruption and waste.

Mahinda June 13 2015 MataraMahinda’s style of living as a ruler was flamboyant and extravagant. He went overseas with huge retinues who were fed in Five Star hotels -just to do nothing. He had a countless number of cars and vehicles at his disposal and he is said to have built palaces in many places for him to stay while on circuit. He had an air-conditioned swimming pool at Temple Trees. All this is also in keeping with the image of an illusionist. Maitripala spends less than one -tenth of what Mahinda did.

The former President’s political manifesto, Mahinda Chinthanaya, was a pickle of pragmatic, populist measures with no underlying vision or direction for the country other than short term effect. There was no national reconciliation, no equivalent of the Mahaweli Development Scheme, no equivalent of the Free Trade zone, no educational reform,no rural development, no agricultural plan and no employment program embedded in that document. In short, there was no ‘chinthanaya,’(thinking) in Mahinda Chinthanaya. In the same way, did Rajapaksa rule-putting out fires as they arose, and living for the day. Trying to win over by effect than by substance. His modus operandi was to “shape up” crises. Illusionists are shapers and Mahinda had been one.

Magicians may pull a rabbit from an empty hat, make something seem to disappear, or transform a red silk handkerchief into a white handkerchief. Magicians may also destroy something, like cutting a rope, and then “restore” it, make something appear to move from one place to another, or they may escape from a restraining device.

The captured audience stay aghast with mouths open, watching the antics. Despite about seventy years of free education and universal franchise Sri Lanka has been unable to gather up a sizeable politically literate population. The bring-back campaign led by politically displaced persons, although its achievements have been awfully exaggerated, has been able to get further mileage off this gullible population that has been brainwashed over a ten-year period to remain stupid; not to ask obvious questions.

Such is the power of the Rajapaksa illusion! The illusion -creation was backed by ancillary supports such as the heavy use of propaganda reminiscent of Joseph Goebbels in Hitler’s time. It was also bolstered by repressive measures led by Mahinda’s powerful brother, Gota, and Mahinda himself. Mahinda camouflaged repression with a smile of innocence and media-exposed visits to temples and the kissing of babes who were dressed, powdered and made ready for him at every public occasion that the High King attended.

The central illusion that the regime successfully created was a still generally-held belief that it was he, alone, who had won the war. “Rata dinawala dunna,” (He won the country back) was the established propaganda pitch. This public myth was dramatically broadcast by his act of kissing the tarmac, upon his return from overseas. He didn’t realise that he was kissing tar and not the raw earth of our land.Yet, it electrified the masses. The scene had been played over and over again on TV during the many elections that The Mahinda Rajapaksa regime had conducted after the war. Mahinda won ten long years of ruling life over the myth and is trying a go again for Prime Minister on the basis of that illusion.

Why was it an illusion, dear readers? Primarily, unlike in any other public project the success of a war depends crucially on the man in charge of the operating command, namely the army commander along with his men on the battlefield. The commander has to display military strategic skills, courage, and resilience. The commander has to trust his own judgement with regard to the myriad of moves played out on the battleground moment to moment; he cannot act on commands of anybody in Colombo and that includes the President. From the point where the president gives the go -ahead the job is all that of the commander; if he fails, the battlefield game is lost. He has to get his men to keep awake morning, noon and night-in hot sun or in the pouring rain;in mud or on firm ground;in deep forest or in open field. The army commander has to keep varying his moves depending on the counter moves of the enemy and this variation occurs moment to moment. A big chess game it is.

It will now be clear that the war project is not anywhere like another project run by a government department or agency where the link from the President right down the line or from the relevant Minister is live all the time. In the latter instance, the flow of command from the top right down to the executing lower levels keeps flowing incessantly until successful completion; whereas in the case of war the flow of command from the President snaps and ceases at the point when and where the army commander takes over.

There were other external actors who had already won the war for Sri Lanka by draining Prabhakaran of his Diaspora fund -flows. These were the Western powers who acted passionately after their own victimisation by terrorists in Nine Eleven.

But the magician that is Mahinda Rajapaksa manoeuvred his way to make the public believe that he had won the war or won the country back. As a matter of fact, the JHU leader Revd Athuraliye Rathana went on TV during the Presidential election campaign to give an account of the events that led to the decision by the President to finally make war. According to that story, Mahinda Rajapaksa had been reluctant to go to war for sometime even after Mawil Aruru. Mahinda had asked whether it is not possible to “shape it up.” We all know that Mahinda, the illusionist, is an expert “shaper.” In fact the Mahinda Chinthanaya had expressly referred to winning an honourable “settlement,’ (gauravanvitha samayak) and not going to war. This is partly why he succeeded to get around Prabhakaran. This was also meant to be a back-handed attack on Ranil Wickremesinghe’s Peace accord.

In fact, it was Mahinda Rajapaksa who, as Prime Minister previously, brought up the PTOMS agreement in Parliament. The Peace accord was a joke compared to the hand -over that PTOMS promised to the LTTE. All this amply demonstrates that Mahinda Rajapaksa never had his heart on going to war. Revd Athuraliye’s story implied that he was pushed to war against his consent.

It followed that part of the agenda must be to shut General Sarath Fonseka. out of the picture. This became particularly imperative when a grateful public kept putting up cut-outs of the General and not of Mahinda all over the country. The first step was to kick the general upstairs by giving him a newly-created position that had an empty aura of importance. The General saw through that and resigned. What happened after that is tragic old story. Soon, we all saw only Mahinda’s cut-outs as the man who “won the country back.” General Sarath Fonseka became simply Sarath Fonseka. Even worse-a jailbird in jumpers!

The next big illusion was the “development miracle” (deventha sanvardana aascharyaya). Ordinary people who indirectly participated in the long conflict and war by suffering through it in patience, deserved the dividends of peace. But Mahinda decided against that course of action. Big projects were not only visual;they attracted big commissions to those involved. So they came in the way of highways and roads, an international airport and a harbour. The highways are doubtless useful infrastructure but they were built well above standard costs. Huge commercial- level loans were taken from Chinese Companies under the Beijing government. Big bucks passed. The International Airport, the International Sports Stadium, and the harbour bled huge money out of the public treasury but turned out to be burdensome White Elephants. The airport needs some 250 million a month for upkeep. No passengers. Chinese are prepared, unlike Western countries, to give loans even without feasibility studies. The country is brought to the brink of a serious debt trap. Our illusionist and his men shy away from these colossal failures and point to the successful aspects of infrastructure development. They are embarrassed about the airport and the harbour and the stadium and what-not. Like the magician, what the audience should not see is concealed under the cuff.

Mahinda Rajapaksa continues his magic even while in Opposition as he tries to make a come-back after his ignominious electoral defeat on January 8th 2015. He makes an attempt to let the widespread corruption allegations against him, his wife and his family “disappear.” He does this in a few steps. First he redefines the investigations as “witch-hunts,” that should never be carried out by a “decent” government. The public is organised to surround courts when Gota is taken for questioning. Basil was “in” all this time but now, thanks to Yahapalanaya, the judiciary has released Basil on bail and prevented Gota from arrest over serious allegations of fraudulent purchase and money-making. No threat has been issued by the government of Maithri and Wickremesinghe to impeach the Chief Justice. Social media is employed to cast a slur on the Maithri-Ranil government for carrying out these “outrageous” investigations.

Secondly, attempts are being made to make a joke out of Yahapalanaya, which is the declared purpose and forte of the new interim government. The solid achievements made in the cause of good governance within barely 100 days are ignored. The removal of Mahinda Rajapaksa was the first step in yahapanayana; freeing the judiciary from political control is the next. The passing of the 19th Amendment that curtails the executive president’s power handing them over to the Parliament and then to the Prime Minister is the next. The introduction of Independent Commissions that free key government agencies from political control is also part of the 19th amendment. Our illusionist and his men try to make such enormous achievements disappear.

The other strategy of the illusionist is the “bring-back “campaigns. The agenda here is also to throw dust in the eyes of the people by diverting attention and focus. The rallies are carefully conceived and meticulously executed. Mahinda never personally made appearance until the last one at Matara when he appeared dramatically from among stones near the rampart.

At these rallies one observes a revival of racially inciting slogans against the Tamils and minorities and the conjuring up of a fear of an LTTE takeover. Mahinda Rajapaksa openly lied that the new government had withdrawn 59 camps. He has been asked to mention just one such camp but is silent. The magician and his catchers like Wimal and and Vasu are trying to synthetically create a demand for “a fearless leader in these times of national danger.” Like the sorcerer who produces a rabbit out of an empty hat, our sorcerer tries hard to create a non-existent threat in order to induce public fear.

This is the last straw!

    Mr Jayasingha
A very apt simile. MR is indeed an illusionist, able to hypnotise & mesmerise the gullible masses who have been systematically brainwashed. Even some of the well educated prefer to bury their heads in the sand, unable to accept reality, that even if MR was solely responsible for winning the war, he does not have the right to plunder the country. MR has the same charisma of Hitler who was able to cultivate hatred among decent citizens and like his supporters, Goebels, Himmler & the rest, MR is also supported by cronies who even had the audacity to link him to Dutugamunu & even Lord Buddha. Hitler’s hunger for power turned him into a megalomaniac. With MR’s determination to come back to power, even as PM, after serving in the high office of President, I can see parallels with Hitler. Hitler’s dream collapsed & so ended his life but from the ashes after the devastation of war for which Hitler was responsible, Germany rose to become powerful nation. Unfortunately, I can’t visualise a prosperous SL, with or without MR, because of the division in politics due to the selfish greed & hypocrisy of the majority of current politicians.

“MR is indeed an illusionist, able to hypnotise & mesmerise the gullible masses who have been systematically brainwashed.”

He is not the first illusionist nor will be the last.

My Elders have witnessed grand illusions followed by mass hysteria in the past 60 or so years. Since 1956 the show grew larger and larger while collective wisdom dwindled, into almost nonexistent status.

Please note Education cannot and will not be a substitute to wisdom. Mass education cannot replace wisdom.

People who could read in Sinhala are educated and more than that they know MR well enough to not to believe a word. In fact, they don’t believe in myths like ‘illusionists’ as CT intellectuals.

“they don’t believe in myths like ‘illusionists’ as CT intellectuals.”

Well while you are on myths, don’t forget the origin of Sinhala/Buddhists.

“People who could read in Sinhala are educated and more than that they know MR well enough to not to believe a word.”

Are you of the opinion that those who could not read in Sinhala aren’t educated?

What has Sinhala/Buddhist education got to do with wisdom? Collective Wisdom evaporated once Anagarika (homeless one) coined Sinhala/Buddhism and equated them to being Aryans, and confirmed when Sinhala only language policy was enforced in this land. Most so called “Eduacted” irrespective of their race, region or religion left this island precisely for the same reason.

I think you should stop being a smart ass educated Sinhala/Buddhist.

What a joker? All these so called (self) intellectuals believe in “illusion”. Otherwise they don’t see MR as a illusionist.

So, according to you, if MR is a illusionist, all these massive development projects started by him are illusions. I will tell MR to ‘snap his finger’ so that they will ‘vanish’ and your “Good Governance” morons can at least try to start thinking of a vision that they never had.

Thanks, Shayamon. Looks like Mahinda Rajapaksa has learned something from Tamil Nadu Actors ans Politicians. He had to be an actor First and second a Politician, a deceptive one.

They were able to do it because the Average IQ of Sri Lanka , 79, and that of Tamil Nadu, 80, contains a hige perventage of Modayas, Mootals and Fools.

In Sri Lanka, the Average IQ of those who voted for Mahinda Rajapaksa is 65. The Modayas, Mootals and Fools comprised Idiots, Morons and Imbeciles.

Please write the Common Sense Pamphlet Sri Lanka, and get the Modayas, Mootals, Fools, Idiots, Morons and Imbeciles to get their brains clarified.

Mara Mara Chatu Mara Mara Amana MaRa MaRa..

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Sense_(pamphlet)

      Common Sense (pamphlet)

Common Sense[1] is a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine in 1775–76 that inspired people in the Thirteen Colonies to declare and fight for independence from Great Britain in the summer of 1776. The pamphlet explained the advantages of and the need for immediate independence in clear, simple language. It was published anonymously on January 10, 1776, at the beginning of the American Revolution and became an immediate sensation. It was sold and distributed widely and read aloud at taverns and meeting places.

Washington had it read to all his troops, which at the time had surrounded the British army in Boston. In proportion to the population of the colonies at that time (2.5 million), it had the largest sale and circulation of any book published in American history.[2] As of 2006, it remains the all-time best selling American title.[3]

Common Sense presented the American colonists with an argument for freedom from British rule at a time when the question of whether or not to seek independence was the central issue of the day. Paine wrote and reasoned in a style that common people understood. Forgoing the philosophical and Latin references used by Enlightenment era writers, he structured Common Sense as if it were a sermon, and relied on Biblical references to make his case to the people.[4] He connected independence with common dissenting Protestant beliefs as a means to present a distinctly American political identity.[5] Historian Gordon S. Wood described Common Sense as “the most incendiary and popular pamphlet of the entire revolutionary era”.[6]

Good analysis of democracy in the land of Modayas… should be widely published in Sinhala language.

Fact is that Ranil Wickramasinghe and the opposition are equally to blame for the ignorance and stupidity of the Sri lankan voters who vote in corrupt clowns to represent them Arjuna Mahendran is an a corrupt INSIDER TRADER and should be fired from the CB as is Ravi Kaurnanayaka, Ranil’s Minister for Economic matters..

Educating the voters is very important to hold ALL politicians (UNP, SLFP, SLMC, TNA etc..) accountable and ensure good government.

But the courts have not released all the corrupt criminals and murderers who has been put behind bars – from Basil Jarapassa and his Divineguma cronies who stole poverty funds, to ex-DIG Vas Gunawardena… Yahapalanaya is slpiing down the tubes with Sirisena appointing more corrupt clowns from SLFP as MPs to safeguard against return of Jarapassa! What a circus in democracy in the Land of Sinhala Modayas..!

Author of this article has written so much about Mahinda, of course criticizing but one wonders why we must spend so much of effort to write about a man who was rejected by the majority. Politicians are actors and that goes without saying. Politics is Poditricks (Small Tricks) said Dr. Dahanayake, one time Prime Minister. In this huge article there is one point that we must appreciate the author for raising the issue, to quote verbatim “…he never governed with any professionalism…..”.

What now requires is to run the Government of Sri Lanka professionally. Professionals must be given the pride of place although in Sri Lanka it never happened. There should be a reserve of professionals acceptable to both sides of the divide who will give professional advice on all matters involving state.

Professional politicians have perfected the act of politics, and MR is such, after every thing said and done, not only that Sri Lanka has survived a 26 year old war, but it also survived the largest natural catastrophe in the recorded history (the Asian Tsunami), it is not just surviving it is thriving. Hence, the so called corrupt politicians and the “dumb” masses must be doing something right, No matter how many times these S. There is no doubt that Mahinda was an actor and his role as an actor continues. He was not only an actor but also manipulator and his a man capable of eliminate anyone those who stand on his way even that individual may be a familiy member or a close friend. The sad thing in our political history people could not identify the true face of that criminal. Another sad thing was the surrender of leftist values by senior most laeftist leaders like Prof. Vithange, Vasudeva etc for a power greedy manipulator.
Every citizen should ask some serious questions.
Why Mahinda wants to come as a Prime Minister when people democratically ousted him from President?
Why shouldn’t any other Senior, talented individual contest for Prime Minister Post? Why not Vasudeva? Why not Weerawanse? Why not Namal? Why not Dr Dayan Jeyatilake? why not Karuna?
Why can’t former President Mahinda Rajapakse become an advisor to Maithiri or any other Prime minister?

If Mahinda dies tomorrow? Let’s close down Sri Lanka for three months, and celebrate. Let’s celebrate liberation from a curse.

Let’s make a huge outdoor barbeque machine, comprising an elevated platform and thereon install a massive electric hot plate. Lets cut up the corpse to tiny bits and leave them on the hot plate. Let’s bring over the saffrons. Let’s switch on the barbeque machine. Let’s force the saffrons to recite vaskavi. Let’s cheer them on to chant away the beastly soul to Yamalokaya. Then lets watch the crows feed on the roasts to their hearts’ content.

Then when we are recovered from the celebrations, let’s think of laying the foundation for a just, equitable, peaceful, prosperous country.

      Sadu, sadu, saa.

“Why Mahinda wants to come as a Prime Minister”

Same question – Why can’t he come as a Prime Minister? What’s wrong with that? If people want him to come back, what is the problem? The answer is people don’t trust in anybody else as capable as MR, as genuine as him, as strong as him. Mahinda has raised the bar so high, even if people look for someone of the same calibre and there is none to be seen.

“If Mahinda dies tomorrow, Who is next”?

Don’t worry about it. Seventy going on 50, he can rule this country easily another 20 years.

How about Sirisena, if he dies tomorrow, who do you want to replace him with?

      The answer is Mahinda Rajapaksa.

    8

“Why was it an illusion, dear readers?”

I leave it to the readers to decide if the ending the war was an illusion. The massive development projects (no more mega-projects says President Sirisena) – were they an illusion?

Most of all was democracy an illusion or real? If it there was no democracy under Percy then is was Maithree elected undemocratically?

Were there foreign elements involved in the free and fair election? Was it free and fair?

Maybe the magic is in the many accusations flying around that create the illusion that the previous government was corrupt. Huge figures are quoted. They appear and disappear. And it looks like bad acting as well.

“Secondly, attempts are being made to make a joke out of Yahapalanaya, which is the declared purpose and forte of the new interim government. The solid achievements made in the cause of good governance within barely 100 days are ignored.”

Is Yahapalanaya an illusion? Is it a joke? It would have been taken more seriously by the public if the politicians took it more seriously and completed most of the tasks of the 100 days program – not even the code of conduct was finalized. How difficult is it to dissolve parliament anyway? (That’s the last promise). What solid achievements? The only thing I remember as solid was the swearing in of Ranil W.

Maithri wins. West-leaning Ranil becomes PM. Modi Visits. Kerry visits. Ban Ki Moon is waiting for the 20th amendment. And don’t forget the war crimes investigation.

Is all this Foreign Direct Investment because we are doing what the West wants? Or is this because we are being told do what the West wants? Either way why this sudden hypnotizing moves of the Western world – at this time? Is a foreign conspiracy an illusion?

Under Yahapalanaya we have nothing to fear. There will be free and fair elections. There will be no more racism, intimidation, political violence. There will be Good Governance. No more (large scale) corruption. No more corrupt politicians – therefore no need to fear that M.R. will be Mister Return.

Or is Yahapalanaya and illusion, does it ‘appear and disappear?’ is it an act?

“Like the sorcerer who produces a rabbit out of an empty hat, our sorcerer tries hard to create a non-existent threat in order to induce public fear.”

If you are right, then under Yahapalanaya such an attempt must fail. We shall see.

      What bloody Yahapalanaya!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!

Just today Gagan Buluthsinhala was appointed by the what now looks like a President who will make MaRa pale into insignificance as a corrupt ruler. The signs were there earlier too; but we ignored them. For example appointment of the brother as SLT Chairman.

Todays appointment clearly shows all the pious words about saving Sri Lanka was just handunkuru smoke.

Why Gangan Betelsinhala should not have been appointed:
While he was in the Airforce jointly with Sajin Vaas , another corrupt crooked businessman put through illicit deals.
His involvement with the other notorious crook Sajin Vaas Gunawardena owner of Cosmo private aviation Co.
Bulathsinghala while he was the air force commander provided official air force service support to the private Co. of Sajin Vaas in violation of the laws , and collected huge sums of monies in many millions , which monies are now gone missing and whose fate is not known to anyone.
His dereliction of duties :Two Kafir jets collided in mid air and were destroyed (while not in combat operations).
Bulathsinghala was found guilty in an investigation conducted into the bombing of the capital city, Colombo by the LTTE who moved into the heart of the city three times in their mini air crafts (two) and escaped scot free after the aerial bombing . Consequently Bulathsinghala was demoted.

The other appointments made by Pallewatte Gamaralalage Maithripala Yapa Sirisena:

Abeykoon who brazenly and blatantly violated election laws as his secretary.

Basnayake who was found fault with by even Chandrika Bandaranaike a former president as defense secretary.

‘Kudu Lansa’ who the whole country knows is a leading heroin peddler as the electoral organizer.

Jagath Dias who is internationally known as a war criminal

Daya Ratnayake and Jagath Jayasundara , the chiefs of the forces involved in a military conspiracy as having committed human rights violations , after their retirement , appointing them as foreign diplomats (these appointments were granted at the behest of the president)

Sanath Jayasuriya the sex starved scoundrel as minister who launched a deadly attack on the unarmed people at Matara , and a rapist out and out.

I lost my respect for this scoundrel today.

Patriotic Sri Lankans, let’s be wary of the wolf in sheep’s clothing we have for a President.

MR is indeed an illusionist an art perfected following CBK.
It appears Shaymon J has got the jitters due to MR’s presence.

Why Mahinda wants to come as a Prime Minister when people democratically ousted him from President?
MAY BE TO AVOID A SCENARIO WHERE Thousands of allied troops and hundreds of thousands of blameless Iraqis were killed, although plenty of companies and individuals benefit from the US dollars that were shipped out, literally, by the ton. More recently, Iraq, now in a far worse state than it ever was under any dictator, has become an incubator for more terrorists, which is a special kind of geopolitical irony lost entirely on the war’s supporters.

An excellent article by SJ. Actor is too mild a word for this despot. MR is a bluff, a manipulator, a crook, a cheat and a rogue who should never have been appointed president. He does not have the guts or decency to be straight in his dealings. Pretends that he does not know what his crooked brothers and sons and family were doing. Good at playing the I am the good cop and others are the bad cop game and bluffing everyone. This guy is dangerous and during his regime there was a complete collapse of the rule of law and values. He is still bribing the uneducated hangers on to attend his meetings and express fake orgasms each time the women see him. It is regrettable that the media is giving this crook publicity – he is a nothing guy now confined to a disgraceful history of depravity and mental atrophy surrounded by a handful of the greatest villains like baluwansa, pissudeva and DJ the country has seen. Waiting to see all these criminals locked up forever to rot in jail.

Another very good paper by Shyamon though exposing only a part of this rogue who is a disgrace to humanity. “Mahinda’s style of living as a ruler was flamboyant and extravagant”. Bensen Berner

      “flamboyant and extravagant”

Shyamon or you can’t apply those two words to Mahinda. He is a man of the people. He never changed his life style. He wore a usual sarong and a shirt at home, at every informal event and when he was in the village. His formal or official dress was always the same national dress and pair of sandals.

Everything else you two envy came with his title and they were not optional. As the Head of State Mahinda didn’t have a choice but follow the practices, common courtesies and customs. There is no point of you or Shyamon being envy with Mahinda or his position, for the reason that you will never be able to acquire such status. Those thoughts only make you two sick as their is a strong connection between mind and the body.

Pity Shame-on-u didn’t know that all politicians are illusionists. MS has proved it amply with his Bodisath pretence. Sarath Silva described it aptly as all a front, a ‘Vesak Kooduwa’. Sira painted himself as a saint, and now that he is in the hot seat, he is going hell for leather at his opponents by setting up a totally illegal inquiry body. How’s zat then, huh? As for delightful Hirunika, how’s about her crossing over secretively from her (now beloved) party? And her antics in London, as opposed to her pious proclamations now? Dayan Jayatilleka asserts that the “overwhelming crowd,” at Matara proves that the people have turned against the Maitri-Ranil government. This man pretends to be an intellect but see the way he argues. How much was the crowd at Matara? How many voters are there? What is the fraction of the crowd at Matara divided by the number of voters? This fellow is a plain fool.Ants are in his wetting pants.
The best estimate is that MR has kept his voters. He has not gained any voters from the other side. Maitri got over 62 per cent of votes. If an election is held now MR has to lose because he has not gained any votes from the other side and even the best estimate is not realistic.[Edited out]

    Shyamon Jayasinghe

“If you didn’t hear it with your own ears or see it with your own eyes, don’t invent it with your small mind and share it with your big mouth” – Author unknown.

I most sincerely thank Shyamon for the generous publicity given to Mahinda’s fantastic, superb photograph with his mesmerizing smile, taken at the historic Matara rally. Mahinda Rajapaksa’s personality is beyond its limits. His courage is contagious. When a brave man like Mahinda takes a stand, the spines of others are stiffened. The photograph is a memorabilia to all Mahinda loyalists and your attraction to it tells a different story than your own opinion expressed in the article.

You are right on one thing. Mahinda never goes. He stays amongst people. He is everywhere. He is desired by many. He is the most sought after politician in Sri Lanka by his loyalists and opponents equally. He has invaded everybody’s lives in Sri Lanka. The word “Mahinda” is his political rivals’ as well as his supporters’ first thought in the morning and the last thought in the night. I am not surprised of your confusion, poor Shyamon. No wonder Shyamon thinks that Mahinda is an illusionist or a magician. Mahinda is always attracted to the impossible. Both with LTTE terrorism and the development ‘miracle’, he saw the invincible, felt the tangible and achieved the impossible. In Shyamon’s fantasy world, it can be achieved only by a ‘magician’. In real world, there is nobody else other than Mahinda Rajapaksa who could achieve what he achieved. The difference what we see between possible and impossible is Mahinda’s determination. Nothing is impossible when Mahinda is there. One of the most prestigious accomplishments a leader can earn is that of genuine respect and love from the people he serve!

I have no intention to answer all Shyamon’s larking of Mahinda’s life from playboy to ‘finding his way’ to Presidency. However, I wish to make the record straight which was distorted by Shyamon. Mahinda cut his teeth in politics as the youngest member of Parliament in 1970, then Sri Lanka’s 13th Prime Minister in 2004 and the President in 2005 and 2010. In his youth, he was connected to peasants, agriculture, “Paada Yaatra” protests and various agitations for people’s rights. His rising to the Presidency was not through ‘magic’, but by sheer hard work, deep loyalty to his party and wading through the cut-throaters of a section of his own party. “Mahinda Chinthanaya” had it all from bringing much awaited peace to the country (in 2005), introducing massive development projects (in 2010) and implementing an infrastructure revolution, reconciliation and political reforms (in 2015). The problem with ‘closed minded’ people like Shyamon is that their mouths are always ‘open’.

I don’t see anything wrong with Mahinda or Gotabhaya talking about winning the war against brutal terrorists. Who believes in Venerable Athuraliye Rathana and his suggestio falsi? For the last five months, while he was taking a siesta on his ‘siri yahana’, many injustices happened to Sinhalese, particularly Buddhists. We never heard him raising his voice. As of Sarath Fonseka’s skills and judgement in leading the war, we all saw how his “beautiful own judgement” came with a suicide bomb to give him a kiss on the stomach. How could a man who couldn’t protect himself inside the army headquarters, lead three forces in the battle ground against the world’s most brutal terrorist organization and win? We stress the point that the victory was Mahinda’s without any argument, while hailing the contribution of other heroes.

Mahinda didn’t do any ‘magic’ to disappear allegations against him. They disappeared by itself due to unavailability of a single evidence to prove any corruption or fraud against him. Both Mahinda and Gotabhaya are famous for their footprints not for their fingerprints. Mahinda is a ‘dealer’ only in people’s hopes and aspirations. He didn’t lie about removing 59 camps from the North. It was a news item that received wide publicity even in pro-government newspapers. The threat of the rising of LTTE remnants is visible to anybody. A veteran leader like Mahinda Rajapaksa was able to see the iceberg before it hits the Ship. If some leaders are born women, it is not Mahinda’s fault. My advice to Shyamon is that if your name is not “Google”, you should stop thinking that you know everything.

Shyamon’s attempt in running down Mahinda loyalists and his grass-root supporters as gullible and stupid is hilarious beyond its limits. Even before 100 days of “Yahapalanaya” was passed, the former Capital’s herd of cattle (widely known as Colombo elites and Colombo intellectuals) who made a world record by electing a trishaw driver as their Mayor sometime ago, were shell-shocked to see the “Green Face Galle” is no longer “edible”. The Colombo’s elite ruminants were again went beyond shock to see their bags of ‘cud-chewing gum’ are piling up at their gates and thrown all over the roads. It was heard in the news that they were still looking for the missing teams of “Jaathiye Muradevathavun” who were dismantled by their own-wise-choice government ‘inadvertently’.

About “Yahapalanaya’s” misdirection due to its ‘broken’ compass. What actually President Sirisena is doing other than distributing ‘bicycles’ to fish? Do fish need bicycles? No, but he still wastes government money by distributing unusable ‘bicycles’ to fish. Very recently, he even found ‘two fossils’ from nowhere and offered ‘advisory posts’ at the expense of government coffer. Everyone has a right to be stupid. But it is real pain to see President Sirisena abusing the privilege. What President Sirisena should understand is that he can’t manage people like inventories. People should be led. President Sirisena is so clever sometimes he doesn’t understand a word he says.

The Prime Minister and his “Yahapalanaya” government have taken the country to an unbelievable status not fit for a nation who boasts about a 30,000-year old proud history and traditional family values. The “Paradise of the Indian Ocean” which Mahinda Rajapaksa left for them is no longer there. Instead, they gave a label of a “Gay Paradise of the Indian Ocean” which was baptised at UN level. In this new ‘paradise’, the Prime Minister is gay, Foreign Minister is gay, Education Minister is gay and the Leader of the House is “any bull’. Only two weeks ago, there were three incidents of molesting young school boys under 15 who had to be hospitalized. One incident said to have been taken place in Kotte Sri Naga Vihara – the famous ‘Roti Parlour’ and the second was by a UNP PC member who must have thought of following his master’s footpath and the third was a 10 year old. When people voted for President Sirisena, they didn’t expect to see the ruination of their country, its culture and national heritage.

The “Yahapalanaya” Diaper is soiled beyond sight and it has to be changed at its earliest!

There is no other leader who could take the country back to its right track, other than our strong, straight, powerful leader Mahinda Rajapaksa. An army of lions cannot be led by a lamb. We need a born lion like Mahinda Rajapaksa to lead a legion of brave lions of our country!

This man Jayasinghe is an insult to the expatriates living in Australia.
His writing is replete with hate, insults and tittle tattle. He cannot formulate a coherent passage and incapable of forwarding a ration,al reasoned, factual argument for debate.

“He cannot formulate a coherent passage and incapable of forwarding a ration,al reasoned, factual argument for debate.”

Such as,………. give us some example.

Did you mean “Heil Mahinda” should be the only rational reasoned, factual argument for debate? Not a bad idea.

Champ you say MR is courageous. Why can’t he courageously go before court and try to clear his name? Why did he cry before Ranil after defeat and ask the latter to save him and his family?
    This is pus courage.

What do you mean? Why should MR go before the courts for unsubstantiated allegations?

The rest in your comment is hearsay which I don’t believe.

Quite right, Seneka. MR’s so-called “fearlessness” is also an illusion from what you say. When David cameron came to Sri Lanka for the Commonwealth conference he dared to visit the North and meet with affected Tamils. He behaved like an imperial master in the old colonial days. What did MR do? He did not object but like a meeya or rat just watched Cameron invade Jaffna. Is this the fearless man?

Poor you, can’t you see the point? When everybody expected MR to resist Cameron from visiting Jaffna, he did the opposite. MR’s brilliant brain allowed him to visit Jaffna freely, it was the plan, not the option. Mahinda overcame all objections and resistance against him and managed to hold the summit in Colombo, which was a personal victory for him.
