The Resolution Is A Victory For All Sri Lankans

By R. Sampanthan

The Tamil National Alliance welcomes today’s Human Rights Council resolution which requests the High Commissioner for Human Rights to undertake a comprehensive investigation in respect of past and post-war violations of human rights and the perpetration of serious crimes. The resolution is a victory for all Sri Lanka’s Peoples in their struggle for truth, justice and reconciliation. The resolution sends a strong message to the Sri Lankan government that the undemocratic, militarized and discriminatory trajectory on which it has set the country is unacceptable and unsustainable.

Sampanthan, leader of the political proxy of the Tamil Tigers, the Tamil National Alliance, addresses reporters during a media conference in ColomboThe passage of the resolution marks a historic moment and finally provides a meaningful opportunity for all communities in Sri Lanka to join an impartial, independent process in which we grapple with serious violations of human rights and crimes committed in our own respective names. This is an urgent need, and is critical to ending the spiral of impunity in Sri Lanka. As the political leadership of the Tamil people, we accept this opportunity in a spirit of humility and self-reflection. We call on the Sri Lankan government to cooperate fully with the High Commissioner in the implementation of the resolution, and more critically, to break with the past and move Sri Lanka in the direction of genuine reconciliation, and a life of dignity and self respect for all Peoples in Sri Lanka.

The TNA looks forward to remaining engaged with the Government of Sri Lanka, the international community and the United Nations in giving effect to today’s resolution and using it to benefit all victims of serious violations in Sri Lanka.

*R. Sampanthan MP – Leader, Tamil National Alliance

        Sampanthan

If it is going to be “an impartial, independent process in which we grapple with serious violations of human rights and crimes committed in our own respective names,” you should be the first to be hauled before the proposed international inquiry mechanism. For you provided the ideology for LTTE’s fascism and ensured the support of Tamil political mainstream for LTTE’s violations of the 2002 ceasefire agreement and its continued terrorist attacks. And this has been your role all along the entire 30 year reign of terror by the Tigers.

You didn’t have the backbone to stand up even for yourself in parliament, let alone for the people who elected you. You only stood up to say the LTTE was the sole representative of the Tamils. You didn’t have the guts to criticize the LTTE when it was killing your own people, recruiting their children for cannon fodder. You didn’t speak out even when your colleagues in TULF were murdered by the Tigers. You didn’t open your mouth when the LTTE denied Tamil people their right to vote in elections and even cut off their fingers for doing so. You backstabbed Chandrika in parliament after promising her the previous night to support her package to solve the ethnic issue.

      Dear R. Sampanthan,

RE: The Resolution Is A Victory For All Sri Lankans

      Yes. Yes. Why?

      1. It brings international attention to the sorry satte of affairs the country is in.

      2. The people have no freedom of expression.

      3. The regime cannot but shills in the UN HRC.

Keep Sri Lanka in the front burner in the World Forum.

Get more and more UN revolutions passed, so that people will ask why?

I think Sampathan is correct. If the investigation is conducted, as a fair minded individual you must volunteer information that we would like to know too. If not the truth finding process will become a farce.

For example the role TULF played arming Prabakaran with Indian help. KP admits Mavia Senathirajah was intrumental in setting up LTTE boys. The role Tamil Nadu played in financing the violence. The bombing of religious places, ethnic cleansing 100,000 Moslems from the north etc.

Also you were at the meeting when LTTE decided to boycott 2005 elections. It was you who declared from Trincomalee the decision to boycott. What role you played in this decision etc.

It will be nice to know how the LTTE was financed and by whom etc. The role Adele Balasaingham played with allegedly arming children will be useful too.

As you said before truth shall free us all. I hope you co-operatate.

The typical blind who do not want to hear or see the other side. Why what about the son of VP, Isapriya and thousands of other unarmed Tamil men women and children massacred by the Forces as clearly seen on Channel 4 videos? How can one be heinous and the other not?

VERY well put….. Vibushana… a coin has 2 sides… lets also see the other side… the (Dhusra- side) of TNA, TULF,LTTE the Diaspora, IPKF the Congress of India… US,UK France and the like…

      Vibushana:

How come you left off the part of President Premadasa’s charitable act of providing money and guns to the LTTE?

And all your questions can be easily answered – the LTTE was created by the actions of a recalcitrant SL regime that not only raped and murdered Tamil girls and women, burnt the Jaffna library, etc but alas who can forget the acts of a President and his ministers who behaved and ran amok during the 1983 riots. Lest you forget, hundreds of thousands of refugees streamed into India. From the Sinhala only Act to the phony agreements your Sinhala leaders made with the Tamil leaders left them with no option at all. Well, let us hear it all.

So, it is very true, the Tamils should be considered as what you say. Look at Sampanthan’s statement.

Yes the main And most important point is INVESTIGATION. IS WHEN THE LTTE MURDERED A. Amirthalingam and deputy Neelan Tiruchelvam. the third in line for leadership was R. Sampanthan.. But he did not condemn the LTTE for this Murder but worshipped the LTTE devotee.. And he is still alive. How far was his involvement in these murders???

“It was you who declared from Trincomalee the decision to boycott.”

When did your state make boycotting election a war crime and crime against humanity? Consider charging MR for money laundering and breaking election rules. He bribed VP to enforce the boycott.

“KP admits Mavia Senathirajah was intrumental in setting up LTTE boys.”

You know very well KP dealt in arms smuggling without which LTTE couldn’t have terrorized this land. Why is your government hesitating to charge him?

You were aware only now BUT we knew about it in the past. Senathirajah was the butler of the Amirthalingam family & he was taking care of Baheeirathan the baby then.

” So, he set up the LTTE Boys and then who instigated the “boys” to kill Appapillai.A & Yogeshwaran stalwarts of TULF ?
Was it Senathirajah himself ? If so Why ??????????????

A sober and mature response. I hope that the TNA, the government and main parties in the opposition will jointly find a way to resolve issues as required by this resolution. It is never too late to do what is right. Doing what at is right by all citizens of this country should be the right way.

I hope the hot and foolish heads from all shades of the political spectrum will keep their mouths shut at least for a year, in the interest of all the peoples in this country.

      Sirisena,

“….foundation of Democracy enjoy by all nationalities of Sri Lankan”

In 1948, Sri Lanka had a foundation of democracy! What we have now is a lopsided majoritarian hegemonic rule. Sri Lanka is polarised along the ethnic lines and the MR regime cares two hoots about it because it knows that Sinhala that matter!

What are the anti-democratic policies of the TNA?

“to break with the past and move Sri Lanka in the direction of genuine reconciliation”….
Sammanthan, how dare you talk about genuine reconciliation? You have no moral right to talk about neither reconciliation nor a political solution. In the last NPC election platforms TNA leaders thundered vali thanthavarkalukku vali aetpaduththuvom(we will give pain to those who gave us pain). If you give pain to the Sinhalese and then,if the Sinhalese also decide to give pain to the Tamils, will there be peace in the country?Do you want the killings each other should continue forever? Is this what you mean by “genuine reconciliation”?
Why was Sammanthan’s leader Amirthaligam killed by the Tigers? What crime did he commit?Does Sammanthan has the guts to say openly that Tigers killed Amirthalingam?.Had A also somersaulted like S and praised Prapakaran as the sole representative he wouldn’t have been killed. He didn’t do that because of his conviction. A had the guts to call a spade a spade, but S doesn’t have that. SAMMANTHAN SUPPORTED THE TIGERS OUT OF SELF INTEREST. Yes nothing but SELF INTEREST.When S was honeymooning with the Tigers ,had he influenced them to accept a reasonable solution one could justify his support to the Tigers. Not only he didn’t influence the Tigers,S himself opposed Madam Chandrika’s wonderful package in August,2000. Sammanthan got a nice bullet proof car from Chandrika and got money from JR to build a hotel in Trinco covertly. What he did to the Tamils is TREACHERY.Had S supported the 13th amendment when North and east remained merged and Madam Chandrika’s package, thousands of lives colud have been saved.SO SAMMANTHAN ALSO SHOULD BE TRIED IN THE HAGUE.
It was the TULF leaders who introduced the magic word traitor to Tamil youth.TULF leaders went on propagating the theory that there is no natural death for traitors(thurokikalukku iyatkai maranam illai). Tamil youth understood your message correctly and put your words into action. You appeared for the accused free. Leaders like Sam are the creators and of Tigers and other militant organizations. Now the mother is betraying their own children, because any independent inquiry will reveal that not only the Sri Lankan Armed Forces but also the LTTE committed violations. So,the creators of the Tigers also should be punished.Tigers are also going to be inquired.
People like Sammanthan are the curse of the Tamil community and the very reason for the present sorry plight of the Sri Lankan Tamils.

          Can you play CHARADES?

PervArtistry is easy to play. It does involve drawing and charades but:

You don’t need to be super kinky
Don’t worry – It does not require nudity or physical contact
You just have to have a great sense of humor!

PervArtistry is an Adult Party Game where 2 or more teams race

The Rajapakse regime, at least, stop fooling the Sinhala electorate that the entire world is with them. They must now come to terms their conduct in May 2009 has been nothing short of despicable. GLP and other spin doctors around the charmed Rajapakse circles will come out with their own strange arithmetics and say if you count the 12 votes against the Motion and the 12 that abstained 24 are really for Sri Lanka and 23 against. This was the same arithmetics that was put forward last time. India shrewdly stayed away while the millions spent on trying to win African and other small countries have been wasted. The unauthorised (Parliament) costly TV advertising in U.S Television and the millions on spent on Lobbyists in London and Washington have been utterly wasteful. The timing of the two local PC elections just before the vote to claim “the people are with me” will take them nowhere.

Irrespective of the drubbing in Geneva, the Rajapakses should honestly go about empowering Wigneswaren’s NPC to function effectively and lift the living standards of the Tamil Nation. That is the surest insurance of future sanctions against the Rajapakse family.

The Rajapakse nightmare is not over. Once the Indian General Elections are over there will be further serious trouble.

“Who will actually lose?” Please, please let us know. A bunch of fools have let this matter go beyond the borders and have allowed it to be internationalised and you are talking about winners and losers. For the way Chandrika and Ranil handled this matter, the world blamed mainly the LTTE, but now who is in the dock? Well, the world owes the Sinhalese majority to finally nab their president and the Rajapakses. Today, what do you think the world thinks of the SL Buddhist culture?

      • 1
        0

        Dear Jansee,

You say “Today, what do you think the world thinks of the SL Buddhist culture? ”

You cannot stop gloating about the Hindu culture. Lets have a closer look.

If they know the real history they would know there was no slavery practiced in the name of Buddhism.

If they know the real history of the Tamil North they would know that a Minority Tamil coterie practiced a form of Slavery rivaling those that existed elsewhere in the world.

They would also know That the Hindu Tamils used the Hindu religion to elevate a small coterie of Hindu Tamils over and above that of the Tamil polity and used that to dehumanize the majority of Tamils by overwhelming them Economically, Educationally, Religiously and Politically by corralling them in to designated Ghetto villages.

They would also know that when a new Constitution was written just before the granting of independence from the British Colonials, the leaders of that small coterie of Hindu Tamils tried all possible subterfuge to preserve their Godly place amongst Tamil society by getting those inhuman practices codified into the Supreme Law of Ceylon. Perhaps the Sinhalese should have supported that attempt!

They would also know that the Ceylon Parliament enacted a law to emancipate the dehumanized masses in 1957, viz the Prevention of Social Disabilities Act. They would also know that Collusion between all Northern Tamil elected members of Parliament and the highest officers of the Civil Administration of the North who ALL belonged to the small coterie of special people, subverted the PSDA for 14 years with impunity, so much so an amendment to that act became necessary in 1971 giving more teeth to the PSDA. They will also know that a Leading figure of that small coterie of Tamils was prosecuted, convicted and the conviction upheld by the Privy Council UK for preventing the general Tamil polity from entering a Hindu Temple for worshiping their religion.

They would also know that Education, Equal Seating in Schools, Travel in Public transport and quenching their thirst at any public well instead of designated dirty wells and a host of other Human Rights became possible only after that.

So much for what the enlightened world would think of Hindu Culture as practiced in the Mono Ethnic Tamil North!

        Kind Regards,
        OTC

Surprising that you have not disputed about what I have written about Sri Lankan Buddhism. If you wish to take a jab at Hinduism, be my guest, for all I may care. Surely, you are one confused person, conning all the way just because you are not able to differentiate between religion and social issues. This is not to say Hinduism has not hijacked by extremists as in the case of the Babri mosque demolition. But, it is only in Buddhism that MONKS (not Hindu priests), be it SL or Myanmar, who run amok. Utterly disgraceful.

            Dear Jansee,

you say “Surprising that you have not disputed about what I have written about Sri Lankan Buddhism”

All that you have said about the Buddhists is quoted in my response and has been disputed. What is surprising is your inability to comprehend.

You say “If you wish to take a jab at Hinduism, be my guest, for all I may care.”

Oh no I have no wish to make a “Jab” at Hinduism, you wrote about Buddhist Culture and I reminded you about the Culture of Vellala Brahmin Tamil Nexus. The Vellala Brahmin nexus did not only use the Hindu religion to run a Slave Camp in the North, they even segregated the Christian Churches into Low Cast and High Cast.

You say “Surely, you are one confused person, conning all the way just because you are not able to differentiate between religion and social issues.”

Oh am I? Then Ms Perle Thevanayagam the journalist writing now from UK who is also active on CT, the very first President of the Global Tamil Forum and Olympic medalist, Dr Nagalingam Ethirweerasingham, Dr Thomas Johnpulle and Mr Sebastian Rasalingam who are all Lankan Tamils (some High cast and some low cast) are all Liars and you are a Truthful Saint!

What I write is backed by references and quotes unlike your wild rantings.

You say “This is not to say Hinduism has not hijacked by extremists as in the case of the Babri mosque demolition”

I wrote about the culture of a Tamil Ruling class of 25% of the Tamil population of the North using Religion to enforce ABJECT SLAVERY and subjugate the remaining 75% of the northern Tamil Population (as per a High Cast Christian Tamil, Ms Perle Thevanayagam’s writings). What happened in Sri Lanka for centuries had nothing to do with the Babri Mosque but everything to do with the Vellala Brahmin Tamil Culture. If you want to look for extremists in that population to pass the buck, then the total ruling class of 25% are extremists.

You wrote ” But, it is only in Buddhism that MONKS (not Hindu priests), be it SL or Myanmar, who run amok. Utterly disgraceful”

You should read about the Church in Canada that purposely infected minority children with the then incurable disease TB. Perhaps you don’t know the History of the Church in England, Rome and Spain. Then read the “Rabbit Proof Fence”. Then you could Read about the untouchables of India and how the Hindu Establishment lead by the Hindu Priests established Slavery which the Tamils imported to Lanka and practiced in a most Brutal Form in Northern Lanka. The stamp of religious authority came from the Hindu Priests. They were the Rule Makers and the Vellala were the whip wielding enforcers.

Extremists exist within any religion but the Slavery the Hindu Religion cultivated was the NORM in Tamil Society as a whole. It Pervaded the Tamil Society in the North.

I am not trying to convince you but countering your propaganda with factual data. The men and women you are trying to deceive will then have the other side of the story and would be better equipped to judge for themselves.

            Kind Regards,
            OTC

Dear Mr R. Sampanthan MP – Leader, Tamil National Alliance,

You say “The resolution is a victory for all Sri Lanka’s Peoples in their struggle for truth, justice and reconciliation”

That is a funny statement coming from a person who idolizes the fascist murderer Prabhakaran and his murderous gang while acting as his Proxy, aiding and abetting in the crimes of Fascist Prabhakaran and his murderous LTTE.

The first step in any reconciliation would be to recognize that Fascist Murderer and his gang for what they are.

Are you and your party able to do that?

    Kind Regards,
    OTC

      Off the cuff:

The world condemned Prabhakaran and the LTTE as terrorists. But the regime, with those from top to bottom, including the murderous Mahinda and Gotabaya are in the dock as pathetic liars, rapists and those who have allegedly committed heinous crimes against humanity. At least the LTTE didn’t earn the rapist label. Looks like they may even be branded as sadistic rapists. Sleep tight with that.

        Dear Jansee,

My post addressed to Sampanthan asked for his and CM Vigneshwaran led TNA administrations position, not about the world’s position. Please reread my comment if you did not understand it.

The TNA was the LTTE PROXY and that is a Fact.
The TNA is also full of former and present terrorists who have not denounced Prabhakaran and the Fascist Murderous LTTE and that too is a Fact.

Unfortunately the CM a former Supreme Court Judge has also turned out to be a Separatist whose sympathies are with Prabahkaran and who has dashed all hopes of the Majority population (Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim, Burghers and others) who hoped he would be strong enough to overcome the separatist agenda of the LTTE Proxy, the TNA.

You say “At least the LTTE didn’t earn the rapist label. Looks like they may even be branded as sadistic rapists”

Did you live with him to give him a character certificate? You ran off to the West deserting the war like a coward and is issuing a character certificates from there? How do you know what went on inside the LTTE dominated areas for 30 years when there were no independent witnesses? The same argument that you apply to the war that liberated the country of Terrorism.

It is known that he met with ALL female suicide cadres for their last supper. Non of them lived to tell the tale of what went on after that supper. Non of them survived 9 months after their meeting with Prabhakaran to see the result. The man surrounded himself with LUXURY and that is a FACT. Are you telling us that he was a monogamist?

The man abducted an underage girl, took her to India and visited her at all hours when he had PROHIBITED any love relationship to his own Cadres. Such was his sex drive.

What he did within those heavily guarded walls of his abodes (he had several)is anybody’s guess. So please don’t brag about the sanctity of your Hero who died and ignominious death at Nanthikadal.

The man surrounded himself with Tamil civilians (women and children included) because he feared death. He did not bite that Cyanide capsule he issued to 9 year old Tamils did he?

What he did can be gauged from the Blood Spattered torture chambers that he built underground. He showcased his Sadism when he slashed open the wombs of pregnant women and dashed infants heads on rocks and tree trunks.

        Sleep tight with that.

        Kind Regards,
        OTC

Statesmanship at its commendable best, when Mr.Sampanthan declared that the Resolution is a victory to all Sri Lankans. Truly so since contribution came from all shades, all ethnicities, all religionists and supported by sections of the media still remaining uncowed. Not to be discounted is the million strong diaspora yet proud to sport its Sri Lankan identity. Flaunting of insolent might by an insensitive government had little effect on their morale even after five years of sustained attack.

In 1915, it fell to the lot of Sir P Ramanathan to be in the forefront in seeking justice. He hailed from a community unaffected like the other two by the riots. This time the most affected community was constrained to take the initiative. Unflagging zeal of all around kept spirits high.

Of common concern to all now is to assist UN institutions, banish the culture of impunity and to infuse fear of and respect for accountability.

    Bullshit!
It would be the poor Tamils who will suffer the most with sanctions. If this is a proxy ploy to get Eelam don’t think it will be easy as East Timor?? There is no oil worthwhile to exploit like in iraq or Libya or East Timor.
Please Work against human rights violations of the government rather than going through US which has different agendas! Remember how ms clinton banned you when it served them! Poor Neelan paid with his life for US action. Think of US supplying weapons of mass destruction to Saddam to attack Iran?? The massacres of arabs by israel with US backing? What about drone attacks all over! DO THEY LOVE HUMAN RIGHTS? Bullshit!! Don’t bullshit yourselves please!!

Any potential sanctions will be targeted principally against the Rajapaksa regime and its cronies, including some business tycoons. It won’t affect the ordinary people. I am advocating only such a sanction, not sanctions against SL as a whole.

It is time TNA should ignore India and work with China. Since China has strong ties with Sri Lanka it may be better for TNA to start talking to China to get their assistance in resolving minority issues. India has bowed down to China as India did not have the balls either to vote for or against the resolution. This clearly shows that India as lost its place in the South Asian political scene.

This gutless man Sampanthan never uttered a word when his own party leaders were being killed by LTTE.

Where was he in the days when the Tamils were being held by LTTE as human sheild? Did he ever ask Prabaharan to release these Tamils? Did he ever ask LTTE to refrain from child conscription?

This Sampanthan was an LTTE accomplice in all their misdeeds.

This Sampanthan and TNA were then the agents of LTTE and now they have become agents of the LTTE rump in the western countries. For TNA nothing has changed. The only change is that instead of receiving instructions from Vanni they are now receiving instructions from the LTTE rump based in western countries.

Sampanthar has expressed his disappointment with India. I do not if that is something Sampanthar had never expected to happen. India and Dr.DJ are competing with each other for the claim of the debacle of the Canadian resolution in 2009. I do not know what is really making him to be disappointed in this. Yet we can assume he still wouldn’t have forgotten the IPKF atrocities those even the GOSL still could not forget and now willing to investigate and bring the truth out. And, it is obvious India dragged its feet away from supporting the resolution because the Brother Prince is accusing that India was responsible to bomb the hospitals, which is a serious war crime.

I wonder if Sampanthar told this because he wanted the TN Tamils be little bit more alert on voting for congress, than they are now. In other words he wanted Congress supports to hear his words and change their minds.

Though it is true that there is no parallel with Tamils Eelam and Cremia, there is lot of similarities with India and Russia. India still an occupying country like its former friend USSR. Kashmir, Manipur, Assam, Nagaland, in all those places India is behaving worse than soviet Russia. Recently UPFA politicians has been fighting back at India saying that it bullying them. India brought in IPKF into Sri Lanka. Now it is complaining that other countries are trying to interfere into Sri Lanka by this resolution. This exactly the same behavior that Russia has shown in Cremia. Russia blamed the NATO is interfering in the Ukraine and has captured the Cremia. Too much worry of India that the western nation are trying to bring a inquiry into Lanka may itch India to do something like what Russia did in Ukraine. (Of Course that is something Ukraine did not ask for.) Some GOSL supporters are writing thank you and praising word for India. I doubt their ability to guess India’s intentions on this. We Tamils do not have toil a lot in this as we have had our experience of IPKF’ intentions which pretended as coming to feed the war affected Tamils .

As usual the Sri Lankan media is fooling the people while talking about the UNHRC votes that many countries abstain from voting or voted against the resolution. The truth is the efforts of the Rajapaksa regime has no bearing on the final outcome. The reality is 23 countries voted in favor of the resolution, 12 against and 12 abstained from voting. The top United Nations rights body has approved an international war crimes inquiry into alleged crimes committed by both sides during Sri Lanka’s civil war. The question is what is next? Let’s not exalt the foolish regime’s useless efforts, but question the foolish regime how it is going to handle the next step.

When Sampanthan said victory for all the people he meant not only Tamils but also Muslims and Christians who are persecuted by this government. Many Sinhalese especially journalists who are presently in exile worked hard and canvassed against SriLanka government at the Geneva meeting. These journalists cannot come back to their homes because they fear for their lives.
I think it is a victory for all communities.

If the Sri Lankan govt considers talking to TNA, Sri Lanka govt should be very stupid.

    Just neglect TNA.
