The Sinhala Majority Must Accept A New Constitution: Sumanthiran

TNA Parleamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran insisted that nothing short of a new constitution will help resolve issues, even though not all the problems of the Tamil people can be sorted by such a move.

M.A Sumanthiran MP

Sumanthiran speaking in Sinhala on the subject of Constitutional Reform in Galle, insisted that the Sinhala majority must accept a new constitution.

‘In a country with a permanent majority it is important to share powers of governance in such a way that all peoples have equal citizenship rights. Sri Lanka’s Sinhala majority must itself acknowledge injustice of simple majoritarian rule and clamor for reform and justice for other peoples,’ he further stated.

    Native Vedda: I don’t care how the Tamil language got into the Statute Books. I support it. Do you not? Say so without beating about the bush of “Hindian” influence. In another point you raised. Did I ever say or imply “one party”, “one leader”? Did I ever say or suggest or imply “more Sinhala/Buddhist converts”. Please don’t put words into my mouth and writings. What’s going on with you man? You once said: “I am a teetotaller “. Now reading through your confrontational and disrespectful writing style , I am beginning to doubt it.

      “Now reading through your confrontational and disrespectful writing style , I am beginning to doubt it.”

      Its time the general Sinhala/Buddhist idea of one nation, one party, integration is challenged. I have asked those who advocate forcefully in this forum many times to define, explain, argue the case for integration, one nation, one people to no avail.

      Therefore I need to confront, be abusive, insulting, ………………. hoping some wise person would explain what they type here. The meaningless one people, one nation, state sloganeering always leads to one party one leader fascist path. And never ever in this forum readers logically, historically, coherently argued against Federalism. It appears you chose to keep mum in order to avoid confrontation or lack of argument.

      I did put words into your mouth hoping to spice up and dramatise what we have been discussing. Everything I say here in this forum is in the interest of this islanders and for good liberal causes, therefore my apology would be out of place.

      Remember,
      integration (forced or otherwise)
      -> one language
      -> one religion
      ->homogenized
      -> one identity
      -> one people
      -> one party
      -> one leader (one moron)
      -> one nation
      -> Fascist state
      -> More destruction

      “I don’t care how the Tamil language got into the Statute Books.”

      Do you know how Tamil language was kept out of statute, state, ……………?
      Do you care to know how Buddha Sasana got into statute books and why?
      Do you know how the hard working 280,000 people were deported from this island. I suppose you don’t care.

      I must go now.
      Unlike you I need to fetch water from nearby pond.
      Nothing personal.

    Though, I do not intend this to be “confrontational”, your approach by way of “confronting”; “abusive” and “insulting” to elicit information is all wrong and perhaps that could be the only reason for other wise men and women to distance from you. Go, hurry up, you need to quench your thirst by entering into relaxation and try to give up that “approach” I stated above. I suggest you to express your valued thoughts on the subjects presented by those authors and I am sure they look for such comments rather than to read “confrontations”, “abuses” and “insults” at each other who write comments My only appeal to you is: please do not contribute to make this page another rouge and abusive “KOLAMA”. Period. .

      Since you are scared or reluctant to hear, face, think, contemplate, ……….. truth, alternatives, just, generous view points or refuse to see beyond your nose or perhaps think outside the box, ……………… you are going around in circle repeating the same stalled, discredited, failed, destructive ———— ideas, concepts, political agenda.

      “perhaps that could be the only reason for other wise men and women to distance from you. “

      You mean wannihami, soma, hela, Champa, sach, Mrs Udubaddewa, Nimal Tissa Wijethunga, K A Sumanasekere, Lal, Jim Softy, ………………….. not quite true. Some of them keep coming back to learn from my Elder’s wisdom.

      By the way you are yet to define your ideas of Integration, “ONE COUNTRY”, “ONE NATION”, “STATE”, “GOVERNMENT”, …………………..
      Why are you afraid of confronting ideas with ideas or clash of ideas?

      Nothing personal.

    Native Vedda, you write a lot here, guard your writing please. As a relentless Tamil advocate your display of language especially dehumanising women is disgraceful.

    We highly respect elderly Udubaddawe madam and say sorry to her for the hurt.

    The trio – Sambandhan, Sumanthiran and Vigneswaran are damn too much. Organise a plane to deport them where they originally came from – Thamilnadu.

    The Tamils PLEEEAZEE, for Gods sake see the destruction you people are creating in this island? Do you have a right to claim all what you claim? You have bombed and destroyed this country for decades. For what? What have you achieved? NOTHING. The ethnic jealousy of the Tamils is evident in every single post they post here. You people have a homeland twice the size of this island, why do you bother us like this? You came here by force and took our land by slaughter and ethnic cleansing. Now you want more and more… Please go back to your Tamilnadu and leave the Sinhalese island or try to live peacefully with us. We cannot make a new Tamil country here. The UN must help the Sinhalese to settle this issue. Tamils have ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT to a separate Tamil state here. Tamils here are a relatively recent diaspora of Tamilnadu. They speak the same language, share the same history and have the same culture. No international law can break up another nations territory to grant a separate state to a group of people like the Tamils in Sri Lanka who are not sufficiently differentiated from the Tamils in Tamilnadu to be considered an independent and historical nation. These Tamil claims are so unfair and unjust to the Sinhalese who have all their history in this island.

      “We lions do not attack barking dogs.”

      I never met a lion which spoke these words.
      The ones I saw in the zoo only ate what is given to it and slept all day.
      Its a better life than humans expecting free imported rice from the moon.
      Remind me ask the lion next time when I go to the zoo.

      You kill only innocent people.

    Mrs Udubaddewa: I join “Chun Panan” in consoling Mrs. Udubaddewa for that outburst of vulgarism by Native Vedda. This vulgarity took my memories back to the days when Mrs. B became the Prime Minister. It was then that the UNP Parliamentarian Late Mr. Premadasa, said in Parliament: “We will have to employ labour to clean monthly the chair that sits this PM.” Please remain with us in this forum and express your thoughts regardless of those vulgarian intruders. They will definitely meet their destiny in the most miserable manner as that fell on Mr. Premadasa. Sorry if you got hurt.

      I thought you had an Oxford Dictionary by your bedside for reference purposes. Most learned men do keep a copy where they could reach even during nights. It appears you are disturbed by the words under garment for women.

      Only the vulgar mind imagines vulgarity in every nook and corner.
      Before jumping into vulgar conclusion you should have asked your mum, Sisters, wife, aunts, ……………………… about the word undergarment.

      Had you checked the oxford dictionary you would have found the meaning and how its been used in many ways. For example petticoat is also part of the undergarment family.

      Petticoat

      A woman’s light, loose undergarment hanging from the shoulders or the waist, worn under a skirt or dress.

      https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/petticoat

      Click below you will find a choice of petticoat which means undergarment:
      https://www.dorisdesigns.co.uk/

      You don’t have to be ashamed of yourself.
      Its alright.

    Since Eelara times, different groups have tried to divide the country for their own purposes. If the Sinhalese were so racist, they would have kicked these people out. All of the majority Muslim nations in South Asia are 97% or more Islamic. Yet this “racist” Sri Lanka has never expelled anyone, not even the Indian Tamils brought to pick tea. And the fastest growing demographic are the Muslims! Now we have Pakistani, Afghani, and other refugees coming here. So where is this racism? Sumanthiran only wants Eelam, just like his ex-boss Prabhakaran who tried to play Ranil with “federalism” while building up the LTTE arsenal.

    Native Vedda belongs to the group who fantasise on ladies’ undergarments, they are dangerous. In medicine we call them ‘narcissistic sociopaths’. These people can be very aggressive and violent towards women; especially when they do not get what they want.

    I know Native Vedda types that steal such clothes from people’s clothes line.

      “(The) Sinhala majority must acknowledge the injustice of a minority determining the fate of this nation.”

      Of course you are right.
      A noisy minority that lead the government and managed the state since 1948 determined the course of the country, which
      introduced Sinhala Only language ACT,
      prominancy for Buddha Sasana in the constitution,
      passed constitution twice without public referendum,
      looted the country under various pretexts,
      killed so many people from 5th April 1971 to 9th January 2015,
      enjoyed and continue to enjoy impunity from law,
      ………
      ……….
      …………
      Surely the majority must acknowledge the injustice of a noisy minority determining the fate of this nation.

        @NV,
        Buddha Sasana in the constitution is in the constitution due to historical fact that, Sinhalese Buddhist created this countries civilisation and got written history going back 2000 yrs to prove it..This has nothing to do with discrimination since its a fact .
        If you are mourning about the constitution, you are right to complain and other 90% of the SL people will support you.. But new constitution suppose to be based on justice and fair play to all but NOT favouring racist minorities.
        Killing of youth either Sinhalese or Tamils need much closer examination , which comes back to the economical well being of the people and the nation. Our youth does not have much future due to idiots running country from both parties.
        BTW, after the war GR asked our family to invest in east and north and we were happy to do so.
        UNP/SLP never had a smart person to run the country from independent and from 70’s onwards we had crooks that sit on the parliament and that includes all the nationalities and nation building is gone to back burner and instead we have indian and western funded stooges agitating for war crimes and asking to change the constitution favouring racist tamils which have serious mental issues since they have been kissing whitman’s buts since Whitman brought them to SL as day labourers from india and other commonwealth countries. After independence, SL govt. found that, these are illegal aliens with no indian, british or SL nationalities or passports. Being Buddhist country we absorb some and others went back to india since they came from india as day labourers. If tamils have a issue re. this, I suggest you go and complain to dutch and british.
        Sinhalese language issue came due to majority and ancient sinhalese language was not recognised on their own land and was not given due recognition by the invaders, in this case colonial british.
