The Army and the Divisional Secretariat have sabotaged a civil society awareness program on laws related to the unlawful land grabbing by the army and the navy says the Mannar Citizens Committee.
The Mannar Citizens Committee says; “ On the first day, 30th May 2013, an intelligent officer had come to the seminar, but the president of the MMC had told him that this was a program dealing with purely civil matter and that his presence was disturbing. He left without saying any word.
One third day ( 1st June 2013) we were awaiting for the officers from the Divisional Secretariats, when the Add.GA telephoned and informed the secretary of the MCC that the Divisional Secretaries were instructed not to send the officials for the program based on the orders from the Army Headquarters in Mannar.
The Mannar Citizens Committee feels these needs to be inquired into, and those whew re responsible at all levels held accountable. If not such unlawful instructions by the military into activities of the government officials, as well as civil society will continue. “

Permission for even burials,have to be obtained from the army.
Occasional dead bodies of females are being found in the vicinity of army camps.
Land Grabs are going on and citizens dare not protest.
The army dares not to do this in the south.
All await the hearing of court cases filed about/against the ‘land grabs’.
The army controls civilian administration purely by intimidation.
The Military Governor approves.
Thus,there are NO “Land and Police powers” exercised by the nothern and eastern provincial councils – though this is the subject of extensive debate in parliament and the media.

Why do we always get on the defensive and confuse Citizen’s Rights with safeguarding the image of the government. The image of a government is only as ood as how it serves its people. Serving one’s people is safeguardng their rights and respecting them therefore. Why do we always pander to a government that is corrupt, arrogent and inefficient? Wy are Citizen’s such as Dilan propping up the governent unless you are a blind follower or an agent of the government? This is the same inferior thinking that makes us Citizens keep quiet when we allow our tax payer’s money to be spent on convoys to protect these buffoons of the government.Is the government here to serve us Citizens or the other way around?
