The Term ‘Islamic Extremism In Sri Lanka’ Is An Impact Of Information Technology

Islam always gives preference to knowledge. It guides human through its principles based on knowledge. The content of the holy Quran consists of knowledge on world’s vital fields like Science, Medicine, and law and so on. For a human who approaches Quran seeking knowledge, it’s a wonderful source of knowledge. Guiding people with changes of time, and giving perfect solutions to problems faced by human at any point throughout the time-line, from the past into the future, is the uniqueness of Quran, the word of almighty Allah. This special feature of the book of Allah, which is not seen in any other religion, is much-admired even by non – Muslim scholars.

We have witnessed in the recent past that the hate campaigns and violence unfolded against Muslims in Sri Lanka have gradually grown, and at the current context, they have taken an atrocious shape to the extent of destroying their houses, businesses, properties and even killing them. A group of extremist Buddhist monks and politicians, with a definite agenda to shatter the Muslim community in Sri Lanka, brand them as ‘Muslim Extremist elements’. They say the Muslim extremists are a threat to the Sinhala community.

Muslim

To justify their ‘finding’ or to elaborate on their term ‘Islamic extremism’, they mostly talk about the increase of Muslim women wearing ‘Nikab’ or Hijab; implementation of Halal certification system, increase of mosques in certain areas of the country, changing appearance of Muslim males and the increasing enthusiasm among Muslims to practice Islam.

The worrying fact is that their venomous campaigns are often organized in rural Buddhist temples with the view of diverting the innocent Buddhists against Muslims. Though, these campaigns have not had a bigger influence over the majority of Buddhists who are very precise in extracting truth from the made up, it’s true, and sad to note, that these monks have been able to attract a small portion of people, mostly thugs and ‘people with corrupt interests’, to their fold. It is this group that has staged the recent violence against Muslims.

Even though the violence has besieged the entire Muslim community in Sri Lanka, the monks who have been instrumental for the recent mayhem repeatedly say that they have not been against the ‘traditional Muslims’ but are strong in opposing the existence of ‘Islamic extremism’ in the country.

It is observed that the extremist monks and their allies unnecessarily fear about these changes. It’s generally comprehensible that these people have in fact failed to observe the history – long ‘journey towards Islam’ by HUMAN, without any differences, whether they are Muslims or Non-Muslims.

As we are aware, with the rapid advancement of information technology within a very short span of time, the knowledge of science, medicine, technology etc., has developed. As pointed out earlier in this article, Islam is a religion which is knowledge based. Hence, Islamic knowledge too has advanced; has become more influential on people.

Even in the past, Islam has been in existence, Islamic scholars have been there. But, there has been no proper media to spread Islam. Hi-tech communicative gadgets accessible by almost all, as in the present, have not been there. The knowledge of an Islamic scholar had been confined only to a small region or a surrounding. There was no any easy way that could carry a message about an Islamic research to an average Muslim in a corner of the world.

But now, the situation is not so. Message from the best Islamic scholars spread all over the world within seconds. Updates about researches on Quran and Islam by Muslims or non-Muslim researchers are conveyed in no time to every nook and corner of the world. Like the human knowledge developed on par with the rapid advancement of the information technology, Islamic knowledge too has advanced among people.

Whether it could be American, European or even Far Eastern countries, it is the impact of the spread of Islamic knowledge that has led the ‘human’ everywhere to march towards Islam. It is the same impact that has encouraged the existing Muslims too to practice their religion with more passion and devotion, that is, the advancement of information technology and the consequent spread of Islam in its true form is the contributory factor to the present keenness of people around the world to practice Islam with much more interest.

It is therefore not possible to Sri Lankan Muslims to stay spared from the rest of the Muslim world in practicing the religion in its true form. It is the reality and branding them as Islamic extremists merely because they follow their religion well is a lamentable situation and it clearly reflects on the ignorance of the particular group of monks and their associates. They must understand that it is not possible to control the spread of knowledge; in this case, it’s Islam, which goes with the rapid development of the information technology in this era.

Without a clear realization of this reality and the trends, unnecessarily comparing the ‘past’ with the ‘present’; fearing that Islam would surpass Buddhism in Sri Lanka, attempting to destroy their businesses, houses, properties of Muslims and their lives are not wise options.

‘What about you paul the sinhala buddhist terror outfit backed by parkistan and the world at large??’

Couldn’t have said it better. Pakistan knows every step taken by Gota. Pakistan is helping Gota/BBS to create an artificial/fake Jihad force in Sri Lanka so to divert people minds from day to day burning issues and then to show Mahinda is a protector of Buddhism from Islamic terror. Gota is following Pakistan where democracy is just a dummy, ISI and its army ruling the country. Gota also copy and paste Israeli tactics spreading lies with the help of JHU.

RW, KARU, Anura Kumara, Sumanthiran, and specially Hakim, Kabir Hashim, Imtias Marker, Rishard so on must be very vigilant and be alert on Pakistan Embassy and its every activities. From halal ban Gota tried a Muslim uprising, when it didn’t work he tried other ways and means to hurt Moslems which lead to Beruwala/Aluthgama carnage. That too didn’t work as hed expected since there wasn’t any retaliation from the Muslims. Five Sinhala owned houses were damaged by JHU/BBS goons, thus ancipipated the attackson Moslems would spread to other places that foil too failed thanks to moderate educated Sinhala public. People like Palitha, RW and several Ministers intervened luckily on time.

IGP Illangakoon is aware of all these facts but his hands are tied. They will anyway remove Illankoon within the next year before the big elections since he is not a fulltime regime supporter.

The best think to do is to organize a huge protest against Pakistan Embassy in Colombo by the Muslims to show the world what they re up to. Muslim leadership must spread the news that a fake Muslim terror unite will be imminent with the support of Pakistan as same as the fake LTTE created recently in the north, courtesy Karuna, Douglus Devananda.

Muslims must realize that for Sri Lankan Muslims Pakistan is like that Loony Subramanian Swami for the Tamils.

        Cheers! Eed Mobarak!

I would like to copy the idea in the Penultimate Para in your comment for some comments in future. Its a good idea for the Muslims to protest as you suggest against the said embassy.
Lets bring their shellfish agenda to the lime light.

“Islam always gives preference to knowledge. It guides human through its principles based on knowledge. “

However, the Wahhabis and their clones do not like knowledge. Thet Hate natural Philosophy and Intelligence, Why? Because they follow the devil, the Satan.

400 years ago Copernicus, Galileo and Kepler challenged the incorrect ideas of the ancients and the Church, and the scientists ultimately prevailed. Reason vs. myths and other hate-based ideas needs to be tested in a proper venue. It will be interesting to test the BBS ideology with that of Buddha Dhamma as given in the Tipitaka, and expose the Sinhala Buddhist Monks and Mahanayakas.

Campaign To Ban The Burka In Britain. The Wahhabis, The Devil Followers, in action. By Dr Taj Hargey is the Imam of the Oxford Islamic Congregation and the Director of the Muslim Educational Centre of Oxford “Supporters of this garment like to pretend that it is a welcome symbol of our society’s multicultural diversity and philosophical tolerance. But such warped thinking is woefully misguided. In reality, the burka is an archaic tribal piece of cloth that is eagerly used by fundamentalist zealots to promote a toxic brand of extremist non-Koranic theology.”

      http://www.thesundayleader.lk/2014/08/03/campaign-to-ban-the-burka-in-britain/

Full Text. The increasing fashion for young Muslim women in Britain to wear the burka (in contrast to their mothers, who do not) is one of most sinister developments of our times. Supporters of this garment like to pretend that it is a welcome symbol of our society’s multicultural diversity and philosophical tolerance. But such warped thinking is woefully misguided.

In reality, the burka is an archaic tribal piece of cloth that is eagerly used by fundamentalist zealots to promote a toxic brand of extremist non-Koranic theology. Everyone in Britain, including Muslims, should oppose the insidious spread of this vile piece of clothing, which imprisons women, threatens social harmony, fuels distrust, has grave health implications and is a potent security risk. Contrary to the claims of its advocates, it has nothing to do with Islam but is a cultural fad imported from Saudi Arabia and primitive parts of the Islamic world. That is why this week, with the Muslim Educational Centre of Oxford, I am launching a nationwide campaign to impose a ban on face masks in public spaces in Britain. Such a nationwide prohibition would deal with all types of covering, including balaclavas, but there would be no exemption for the burka/niqab on any spurious, politically correct grounds of religious conscience.

One of the key purposes of this initiative is to persuade at least 100,000 people to sign a formal petition calling for the ban, thereby obliging Parliament to debate the issue. Despite growing concern from the British public, our pusillanimous politicians have refused to address the burgeoning prevalence of the burka in our midst, as they fear accusations of Islamophobia from the militant fundamentalists and their PC allies. Well, it is time to put the needs of British society before the manufactured grievances of the hardliners, whose aim is to replace our liberal democracy with a totalitarian theocracy, the burka serving as a weapon in this far-reaching cultural war. In rejecting the ideology of the zealots, mainstream Muslims should be at the forefront of the campaign for a ban, not least because the burka so badly undermines the credibility and reputation of our faith. There have, of course, been previous petitions and calls to outlaw face masks in public, but all came from the political Right and gained little traction.

This campaign is different. It is the first one led by Muslims, speaking for the moderate majority whose voice has been unheeded up to now. We invite both Muslims and our other fellow citizens to work together to rid Britain of this alien cultural monstrosity. A key part of the impetus for this move came from the decision of the European Court of Human Rights this month to uphold the ban instituted by the French Government in 2010 on all face coverings in public. Supported by lawyers from Birmingham, a 24-year-old French woman of Pakistani origin took her well-funded case to the ECHR, claiming that the ban was a violation of her — and note the sequence — religious, cultural and personal rights. On every level, this questionable appeal relied on distortions and untruths. Thankfully her case was thrown out, but her arguments illustrate the chronic weakness of any suggestion that we must allow the burka to be worn in public. First, there is no religious requirement on Muslims to don the burka; second, the burka is not a feature of Pakistani culture, where 90 per cent of women do not wear it; third, there is no unqualified human right to wear whatever we want in public.

In every developed society, personal freedoms have to take account of wider social mores. The French ban has proved to be legally sound as well as sensible. I have long believed that the same measure should be introduced here in the UK to prevent community separatism and social apartheid. And, like the ECHR, I see no basis for the pretence that there is any religious sanction for the burka. The wearing of the face mask is a custom originating in ancient Persia and Byzantium, more than 1,000 years before the birth of Islam. It was upheld by male aristocrats because of social snobbery rather than religion, since they did not want their womenfolk — wives, daughters, sisters or mothers — to be seen by the peasantry. Nor is there any evidence in the Koran to support the wearing of the burka. Indeed, the Holy Book stipulates that men ‘should lower their gaze’ when meeting women to avoid lecherous staring (verse 24, chapter 30).

So logically, if women were fully covered up there would be no need for such an instruction. Some Muslim clergy claim that the burka is religiously necessary. They assert this because the Prophet Muhammad’s wives allegedly hid their faces in public. These puritanical clerics do not base their theological misrepresentations on the Koran but on the subsidiary and suspect hadith (a collection of books containing the reputed sayings of Muhammad, written 250 years after his death). In any case, this is a wilful misreading of scripture. In fact, verse 32 of chapter 33 in the Koran explicitly states that ‘the Prophet’s wives are not like other women’. So there is no reason to emulate them. Just as revealingly, it is forbidden for Muslim women going on pilgrimages to Mecca to cover their faces.

So if such a pre-Islamic practice is banned in Islam’s holiest site, why on earth would it be required on the streets of Britain? The truth is that there is no theological foundation for these separatist face masks, as most non-fundamentalists recognise. Only recently, Al-Azhar, the leading institution of Muslim theology in the Islamic world, declared that the burka has no spiritual authenticity. Theology apart, there are many other compelling arguments against the burka. It badly undermines social cohesion by inhibiting effective interaction between Muslims and non-Muslims in the public realm. There can be no meaningful exchange with people if you cannot even see their faces. Moreover, the burka is an affront to the concept of gender parity in the UK. If I tried to wear a ski-mask on a bus or at a bank, I would quickly be told to remove the item or leave, or be arrested. Why should the same rules not apply to Muslim women?

The demand for equal rights has always been central to the feminist cause, and in this case feminists should be calling for men and women to be treated equally. Either everyone has the right to mask their face or no one has. There are huge implications for security, after several cases of terrorists and criminals using the burka to evade detection — a particularly worrying development given the explicit, bloody threats of militant extremists. In our troubled world, there can be no absolute right to anonymity in public. Another concern is the health risks, for full coverings mean a distinct lack of exposure to sunshine. One recent study of 203 burka-clad women in the United Arab Emirates revealed that all but four were deficient in Vitamin D. If that can happen in a land of blazing heat, how much worse will be the problems in often damp, dark Britain? Our society is already seeing rises in rickets and other bone-related diseases for the first time since World War II. Supporters of the burka talk about freedom of choice — yet it is not women who are being given that freedom, but men who are imposing their will. That is not empowerment but imprisonment. The burka is just another weapon in the jihadist arsenal of misogyny, like forced marriage, female genital mutilation and sexist discrimination.

It should have no part in British society, where women are supposed to be treated as equal citizens. By tolerating it, we are allowing a form of gender apartheid to grow in our midst. All of us, Muslims and non-Muslims alike, have a duty to challenge the religious hardliners who have cynically exploited British traditions of tolerance and individual liberty to pursue their own twisted sectarian agenda imported wholesale from the Arab Middle East.

A start could be made by forcing our politicians to debate the issue by gathering sufficient signatures for our historic anti-burka petition. We cannot continue to accept the creeping Arabisation of Islam in the UK and consequent destruction of our cherished British freedoms. A stand must be made now. Islamic extremism is not committed by the Muslims of Sri Lanka. Its purpotrated by the Pakistani High Commission in Colombo. Pakistani government is very close to Rajapakse regime hence it may be construed that Sri Lanka Government is involved in this and not the Muslim population of Sri Lanka.

    1. The Islam during the First 500 years until about 1,200 CE was based on knowledge, inquiry, reason, and observations, It was Islamic Philosophy, that absorbed the Greek Philosophy with many Islamic Philosophers and Scientists contributing and refining Greek, Persian and Indian knowledge. However, after around 1,200 CE, due to Ghazali and the Ulemas, who elevated Revelation above Reason and Observation, whether correct or not, that knowledge declines.

The Ulemas were talking about religious knowledge.

The Philosophers were talking about knowledge, wisdom, reason and observation, something like the scientific method.

The Ulemas prevailed. Islamic science and philosophy declined. Islamic Civilization and Technology stagnated. The West was able to set aside the Church aside and progress with the enlightenment.

Now we have the Wahhabis and their clones. They claim to be Muslims, when in fact they follow the Devil, Satan, Shaitan and are in fact FAKE Muslims. They are agents od Satan., and wants to destroy the Muslims from within. That is the core-problem.

    Hadith of Najd

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadith_of_Najd

So, you need to send the Wahhabi and their clones, Devil following Fake “Muslims” back to Najd.

“A number of authors have claimed that the hadith refers to Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab, the patronym of the Wahhabi movement. It is accounted that the origin of Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab is from the modern day Najd region of Saudi Arabia,[14] which happens to be the only surviving region that carried on the title of ‘Najd’ after the geographical codification regardless that there were several distinct locations known previously as ‘Najd’. This theory is generally supported by adherents to other various sects in Sunni Islam that have disdain for Wahhabism.[15] This is often speculated to be due to the revival of prophetic traditions, strictly clinging to hadith and negating what was seen at the time to be bid‘ah or ‘heretical innovations’, instigated by Ibn Abd al-Wahhab and later carried on by his followers.[16] as well as Twelver Shi’ism.[17] Contrary to the accusations there are numerical hadith that discredit this argument due to praise of the ethnic tribe of Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab, being the Bani Tameem tribe, and praise for the region of what is now known as Najd and its peoples. Through anthropological records it is accounted that the Bani Tamim are the majority of people inhabiting the land of modern day ‘Najd’ in present day Saudi Arabia.”

      Amare,

It is a fallacy that knowledge and scientific inquiry in the Islamic world declined after Ghazali. There are hundreds of scientists mathematicians and astronomers who were born, lived and died after Ghazali. A few of them are: Nasir-ud din Tusi, ibn Shatir, Shezari, Bhagdadi, Ibn-al-Bhaitar, Urdi, Ibn-un Nafis, Ulugh Baig, Shirazi, Farisi, Rumi, Khafri, Maghribi, ibn al Fawadhi, etc..

Then in the 12th century Mongols invaded most part of the Islamic world. They set fire to the huge libraries, destroyed observatories etc., It was barbarism at its highest. There was no recovery possible it was thought. However after the Mongol invasion the above named scientists and many many more continued their scientific inquiry.

The greatest philosopher after Ghazali, is ibn Rushd. He is known in the West as Averroes. He was born a century after Ghazali. In the British Museum, there is an iconic painting, known as the ‘School of Athens’. Among Aristotle, Ptolemy and others you will see a shadowy dark skinned figure. He is ibn Rushd, otherwise known in the West as Averroes. He is simply referred to as the Translator as he was a master of Greek philosophy. Ibn Rushd came up with the doctrine of ‘double truth’. What he said was that there is truth that comes from ‘revelation’ and there is also truth that comes from ‘reason’. So rather than kill scientific inquiry he promoted such inquiry which led to the continued work of the scientific works of the Islamis scientists after Ghazali. By the way it is said that Thomas Aquinas borrowed this doctrine of double truth from ibn Rushd and broke the strangle hold the Church had on scientific reason in the West.

Scientific progress in the Islamic world continued until the 16th century. After that the European renaissance began. Nicholas Copernicus is considered the father of the European Renaissance. He copied scientific diagrams from Nasir ud din Tusi, ibn Shatir and Urdi. These scientists lived and worked after Ghazali. Copernicus copied even the mistakes made by Tusi, showing that he did not know what he was copying.

If you take history, it always took a benevolent dictator with money to sponsor science. Islamic world had it. However after the 16th century power of commerce was with the West and they continued the scientific inquiry. As BBC said in one of it’s documentaries, science always follows the money.

They could never conquer Sikkim, Nepal on the Himalayas.
Following the Third Anglo-Maratha war in 1818, the Mughal emperor became a pensioner of the Raj, and the empire, its power now limited to Delhi, lingered on until 1857, when it was effectively dissolved after the fall of Delhi during the Indian Rebellion that same year.

        Islamic philosophy

“Islamic philosophy or Arabic philosophy is the systematic investigation of problems connected with life, the universe, ethics, society, and so on as conducted in the Muslim world. Not all Islamic philosophers have been Muslims. Christians such as Yahya ibn Adi and Jews such as Maimonides have made important contributions to the Islamic philosophical tradition, and others, such as Ibn al-Rawandi and Muhammad ibn Zakariya al-Razi, used philosophy to attack Islam.[citation needed]”

“Early Islamic philosophy began in the 2nd century AH of the Islamic calendar (early 9th century CE) and lasted until the 6th century AH (late 12th century CE). The period is known as the Islamic Golden Age, and the achievements of this period had a crucial influence on the development of modern philosophy and science; for Renaissance Europe, the influence represented “one of the largest technology transfers in world history.”.[1] This period began with al-Kindi in the 9th century and ended with Averroes (Ibn Rushd) at the end of 12th century. The death of Averroes effectively marked the end of a particular discipline of Islamic philosophy usually called the Peripatetic Arabic School, and philosophical activity declined significantly in Western Islamic countries such as Islamic Spain and North Africa.”

“Philosophy persisted for much longer in the Eastern countries, in particular Persia and India where several schools of philosophy continued to flourish: Avicennism, Illuminationist philosophy, Mystical philosophy, and Transcendent theosophy. Ibn Khaldun, in his Muqaddimah, founded the disciplines of historiography and sociology[citation needed] and made important contributions to the philosophy of history. Interest in Islamic philosophy revived during the Nahda (awakening) movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and continues to the present day. Prominent representatives of contemporary Islamic philosophy include Mohammad Baqir al-Sadr and Hossein Nasr.”

          Amare,

I am aware of the conflicts between the philosophers during the Islamic Golden Age. However my point is that scientific inquiry in the Islamic World did not die in the 12th century as claimed by you or Wikipedia. It faded away in the 16th century as the economic power shifted to the West. It had nothing to do with Ulemas or Ghazali. I have given you facts, which cannot be challenged.

You are referring to Wikipedia. We all know that it is not always correct. It plucks things out of thin air and cites in its website and then states ‘citation needed’. This again is due to the entrenched prejudice the West has with Islam.

Facts are only emerging now. You will be shocked to hear that every aspect of science and mathematics was developed in the Islamic World. Then it was transmitted to the West. The Western Scientists copied almost every aspect of it and presented them as their own. However there is an exception to Western scientists, i.e., Sir Isaac Newton, who said ‘ If I see further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants’. He is referring in his book ‘Principia Mathematica’ to all the scientists from the Islamic world from whom he benefited.

Jews, Christians, Zoroastrians all worked together harmoniously in the Arab Empire. It was an era of enlightened leadership, the world is yet to see since.

            After the 12th Century:

            1. Islamic science and philosophy declined, did not grow like the earlier period.

            2. Islamic Civilization and Technology stagnated, even though the ottomans, persians and Moghuls made progress in civilization, but less on Technology.

Still, the Ulemas took an upper hand. Science and philosophy was given step motherly treatment.,

It was after the 16th century that the European Renaissance began. Not in the 12th century. The West set aside the church only after the 16th century. Remember Galileo Galili.

“progress with the enlightenment.” After the 12th Century: “

12th Century – 16th Century it gestated in Europe, battling the Inquisition. Had the Islamic Philosophers NOT done their translations and clarification of Greek philosophy and added to it, this gestation period would have taken much longer, battling the Inquisition, and we would still be in the DARK AGES.

CORRECTION: Yes, After the 16th Century in Christian Europe, it culminated, but the foundation was laid with Ghazali, Avorroes Avicenna and Amalgest. Martin Luther ( Splitting the Catholic Church) and the National Philosophers, Copernican, Galileo, Kepler, René Descartes and many other played a role here but came in the 16th century.

What I meant to say was that Islamic Philosophy stagnated after the 12th century due to the Ulema-Philosopher Conflict. The main Characters were Ghazali, from the Ulema Side and Avicenna and Averroes from the Islamic Philosophers side. They laid the groundwork in clarifying the Greek Philosophy, which was picked by Christian Europe after the 12th century and gestated for 3 to 4 centuries in Spain, France, Holland, and Italy. Thomas Aquinas played an important role here. A good chapter on This period from 1,200 to 1,600 is given in the Books on the House of Wisdom

                  Amare,

You are quoting Wikipedia and western sources. They are utterly biased. In your haste to make a point you contradict your own theories.

west has spread a canard to the effect that ‘ulemas and Ghazali. You say ‘the foundation was laid with Ghazali, Avorroes Avicenna and Amalgest. Martin Luther ( Splitting the Catholic Church) and the National Philosophers, Copernican, Galileo, Kepler, René Descartes and many other played a role here but came in the 16th century.’

Ibn Rushd (Averroes) lived a century after Ghazali and challenged him. There were followers of Ibn Rushd even in France called ‘Averroists’ who were banned from entering church. So if Ghazali killed Islamic philosophy how come Ibn Rushd came along a century later with his own philosophy which was totally in conformity with Islam? So be careful before you quote all these unsubstantiated claims.

The West wants the rest of the world to believe this type of falsehood so that it perpetuates the hatred we have of Islam. you are clearly a victim of this propaganda.

Professor Weeramantry in his book ‘Islamic Jurisprudence- an international perspective’ clearly makes this point. Please read that book before you exhibit your ignorance.

I am fully aware of the intentions of the Christian West Plans and Strategies and, the Crusades and the inquisition. I have also read the summary of Professor Weeramantry in his book ‘Islamic Jurisprudence. The current discussion is about Islamic Philosophy and the conflict Between the Philosophers and Theologians and as to how impacted Islamic science and philosophy,

The culmination of philosophy of Islam was in the 10th and 11th centuries. This was the age of great theologians. In the struggle in Islam between Philosophy and Theology, Philosophy was defeated, and the final blow to the Philosophers was given in al Ghazali’s attack on Philosophy which in substance is incorporated in Avorres’ book and which he tries to refute.

The Islamic philosophy and science was advancing in the East at Baghdad and in the West in Cordoba, Al-Andalus, Spain. I have the books, the House of Wisdom,at Baghdad, How Arabs Transformed the Western Civilization, by Jonathan Lyons, The Incoherence of the Philosophers by Al-Ghazali 450AH-505 AH(1058-1111 C.E)and Averroes(1126-1198 CE) The Incoherence of the Incoherence. Ghazali was attacking Aristotle, Al Ashari(Born 873 C.E) and Avicenna ( 980-1037 C.E) , Philosophers in general, and said revelation is Above reason, but reason can be used, if there is no conflict.

The West had the advantage of these developments when they hot hold of Ghazali and Avorres works. However, it was the separation of revelation and reason, that allowed the West to advance in the 16th century, after the foundation was laid out by the Great Islamic philosophers.

Philosophers in general, and said reason is Above revelation, but revelation can be used, if there is no conflict.

Theologians in general, and said revelation is Above reason, but reason can be used, if there is no conflict, by Ghazali.

The quaran has been interpreted in many different ways by Islamic scholars.
The middle east is ravaged by war between two main sects of muslims.
A “caliphate” is in the making in Iraq & Syria.

There is a photo in the media of muslims ‘breaking the fast’ in company of government politicians. Is not this ritual a privately religious one?
    This scholar must explain.

If we were to believe that rapid spread of knowledge would have had a desired effect
then the question remains why hasn’t the absurdities of religion not being questioned more vigorously.

To the contrary Technology in the hands of the extremists has become a convenient tool to commit atrocities with a higher impact.

        Amare,

Non-Theism is still playing with death in most parts of the Muslim world but thanks to electronic media critical thinkers such as Al-Maʿarri are able to express their views much more freely in increasing numbers.
But it is a far cry and a long way to go, meanwhile the infighting among the different sects continues contrary to their claim of ‘ a religion of peace ‘. Self defeating isn’t it ?
Same happened with other religions but most of them have come to some senses.

Bill Gates got his first break through from the hippies who sang `imagine` (check it out its on video 2 parts) and gave him that excel spread sheet to present to bank. Therefore he has the largest single charity for the homeless in the world. God, Allah, Baghavan, Deiyo is not the issue

Palestine is their problem ours is a small country and it is important to be friends with all neighbours like yes Switzerland – attached but detached as we do in the west (after 2 European wars) for a peaceful living. “Islam always gives preference to knowledge. It guides human through its principles based on knowledge. The content of the holy Quran consists of knowledge on world’s vital fields like Science, Medicine, and law and so on.”

So what’s happening in Afganistan, Pakistan, Somalia, etc? is Jawahir aware the state of the people in those countries?

“To justify their ‘finding’ or to elaborate on their term ‘Islamic extremism’, they mostly talk about the increase of Muslim women wearing ‘Nikab’ or Hijab; implementation of Halal certification system, increase of mosques in certain areas of the country, changing appearance of Muslim males and the increasing enthusiasm among Muslims to practice Islam.”

Muslims have lived almost 400 years in the country. According to the author SL Muslims became enthusiastic about Islam over the past 30 with the influx of ‘oil money’ from Middle East.

Muslim women are forced to wear Niqab or Hijab, keep in mind that Sri Lanka’s weather is typically hot and humid.

Implementation of Halal certificate system charge fraudulently, The organisation who had tried to implement the Halal certificate were fraudsters.

Pakistan or Arab could care less about Sri Lankan or south Indian Muslims, they look down on SL Muslims anyway.

The bitter truth is that Muslim extremist organizations and politicians are trying to Muslimize the country, and radicalise the innocent Muslims as well.

Considering the things happening in Muslim world, SL must stay alert at all time, and keep the guards on at all times.

Minorities must learn to integrate with the majority.

This would willingly happen if the Majority instead of subjugating the minorities, accommodate them.
The blatant abuse of authority and the total lack of law and order have to be blamed first before pointing fingers at other things and others.

There is no such thing as ISLAMIC EXTREMISM.

All propaganda against muslims because of information technology.

Muslims are innocent and peaceful people. Islam is the only religion of Peace.

Read the following;. It is the buddhists.

    ‘Wahhabis attacking Sufis

    1. Wahhabi-Sufi clashes in Kattankudy, Batticoloa District spurred as a result of Wahhabi men mocking Sufi women on their way to a Sufi mosque and led to clashes with even fire arms being used and curfew imposed. 7 cases of property torched, 2 houses damaged, 8 motobikes torched. The meeting organized by the Police led to Jammiyathul Ulema (who represent Grand Mosque in Kattankudy) putting 10 regulations affecting the belief and practices of Sufis. Jammiyathul Ulema demanded Suffis to abide by their rules, to stop radio broadcasts, and publishing Suffi newspapers. Suffis refused to accept these terms. It was a clash of religious thought and not many Muslims like to publicize this.

    2. 2004 October again in Kattankudy ” a book published by a Suffi leader ( M S M Abdullah) declared ‘un-Islamic’ by Jammiyathul Ulema representing Wahhabi school of thought. Result was over 200 Suffi houses burnt down. A fatwa was declared against M S M Abdullah leading to a court settlement.

    3. 2006 ” clashes between Suffis and Wahhabis in Oddamavadi

    4. Wahhabis demanded removal of M S Abdual Payilvan’s (leader of Suffi sect and President of All Island Tharikathul Mufliheen) who was buried at the Tharikathul Mufliheen mosque burial grounds in Kattankudy. Wahhabis went on to dig the buried body and dumped the body on a local road. The policy recovered the body and re-buried it in the original burial space.

    5. Wahhabis are headquartered in Kattankudy, East Sri Lanka. Their brand of terror was seen in the gunning down of Lateef in Oddamavadi and even gunning down those who leave Wahhabism.

    6. 2009 ” clashes in coastal town of Beruwala between popular Sufi sheikh and Wahhabi congregation.

    7. 2013 ” Pottuvil, Suffi Muslim shrine demolished. So far 10 to 15 shrines and 25 mosques had been attacked all over the country by the Wahhabis

Globally too the attacks on Suffis’ by Wahhabis have increased.

Sudan’s Islamic Wahhabi Government is attacking black Sufis in Darfur
Iraq’s Suffi’s are regularly attacked by Wahhabis using suicide bombers.
    Wahhabi Quest to “Arabize” Islam

There are 1.2billion people who follow Suffism but to the Wahhabis and the Taliban ” Suffis are their enemy. The obvious aim is to wipe out 1400 of Suffi culture and ‘Arabize’ them. The key word is certainly Arabize ” for Islam is not Arabic culture and the sudden surge in people wearing burqa/nikab shows how Muslims have been forced to adapt to Wahhabi Arabic culture as a new wave of dress code is being dictated. Arabic culture is certainly not Islam. Muslims must question whether they are following Islam or Arabic Wahhabi Islam. ‘

“Islam always gives preference to knowledge. It guides human through its principles based on knowledge. The content of the holy Quran consists of knowledge on world’s vital fields like Science, Medicine, and law and so on..”

Sadly the available evidence suggests just the opposite.

“There are roughly 1.6 billion Muslims in the world, but only two scientists from Muslim countries have won Nobel Prizes in science (one for physics in 1979, the other for chemistry in 1999). Forty-six Muslim countries combined contribute just 1 percent of the world’s scientific literature; Spain and India each contribute more of the world’s scientific literature than those countries taken together. In fact, although Spain is hardly an intellectual superpower, it translates more books in a single year than the entire Arab world has in the past thousand years. “

      Paul,

You have exhibited your ignorance and shallow thinking in no uncertain terms. Nobel Prize has existed only for a period of over a century.

Scientists of the calibre of Newton, Galileo, Kepler, Copernicus etc.., lived before Nobel Prize was introduced.

Please read Professor C.G. Weeramantry on ‘Islamic Jurisprudence-an International Perspective’. According to him, the present world will be 500 years behind if not for the Islamic Golden age (between the 9th century and 15th century). Every aspect of science mathematics and medicine as we know it now was developed during this period.

If you see history, Greeks and Persians had knowledge first, then the Islamic empire (the largest the world has ever seen), and now the Europeans. Each of them had it for about 500-800 years. Then the power shifted. We see signs of that happening now. China and India are making progress whilst the Europeans are stagnating. So, with economic power it will be the turn of the Asians to lead the scientific world. Perhaps it will happen in the next century.

So in 500 years time people would have forgotten what the European scientists did for us (like we have forgotten what the Islamic scientists did for us) and criticise them whilst praising only the Asian scientists. Unfortunate. But it is the reality of the world.

The article sheepishly trying to portray people are fascinated by the knowledge out flow from a single book called Koran and everybody reading this on the internet without any work and changing their religion is the funniest theory postulated in this century. Many Muslim countries seeing population growth; but after Malthus’s warnings, Christian countries have slowed down. They like to have small families and higher standard of life. This is and economical fact. Population grows faster when there is poverty in a country, too. This is the case with India like countries. Without siting any actual statistics the writer is fooling everybody. Muslims scientist had a unique advantage of mixing eastern inventions and Greek inventions and stayed ahead of the works. Part of this is stolen property. Especially Indian Buddhist’s inventions were completely wiped out. Now it is accepted even Newton’s calculus received foundational theories from India. Coordinate Geometry is invented in Kerala. This type of leadership normally does not hold for long. That is what happened. We all show what happened to England, even though they turned out to be very moderate at the end of their era. Any science in the Islamic literatures outside of Koran is already outdated. I wonder what is modern is appearing in Koran so entertaining to read on the web.

Still America holds the upper hand on modern science and philosophy. Claiming Koran is offering a better alternate is utter idiot talk. There, science and technology are relaxing brutal religious control. American constitution is the beginning of this revolution. That is the reason there is friction between Muslims and America. If the Muslim religion abandons the control of changing religion punishing with murder, Islam may be the fastest retracing religion in the world. Hindus knows this very well. Their caste problem (harassment for only sector of them) is making them losing on one side. With the Islam controls on all women, for their mothers’, sisters’ and daughters’ suffering, they will be losing families and families.

This guy is writing something to safeguard certain groups private interests. Because Greeks had a old civilization and better philosophies one time, at the invent of internet, the modern peoples do not try to become Greeks.
