This Man Maithripala

By Shyamon Jayasinghe –

Sri Lankans are not an unfortunate people. We know that they are never vanquished by famine and drought. The Tsunami came, but that was a rare regional geological oceanic shift. A bit of flood comes now and then. The land is defined by scenic beauty; it is fertile for any tropical cultivation. People are quick at learning, imitating and creating. They are intelligent and free in spirit. The light of the Dhamma came early in the island’s history and spread throughout the villages and towns for many centuries. Through humanity’s historical evolutionary process a diversity grew in a tolerant atmosphere-a diversity in ethnicity and religion that was just thrown into a lovely curry pot. The island quickly got over political ups and downs and found solutions to political crises. The latest solution is now bigger than life before us: Ayubowan, Maithripala Sirisena!

I was most impressed listening and watching to the video going round of the speech that Maithri delivered at the UNP Headquarters before a UNP audience of stalwarts and rank and file. This is a genuine leader born of Lankan soil, I thought. Maithri instantly grasped his audience’ aspirations and apprehensions-which is the most important thing for a public speaker. He knew there were many doubts and suspicions and misunderstandings among the men and women of the Grand Old Party that have been long in the political drought. He effectively and dramatically pressed the button on the real crisis issue that all Lankans regardless of party affiliation do face today: In a third term, Mahinda Rajapaksa will leave no party left in the country-only a solitary dictatorship! The island is slipping fast toward the dictatorial paradigm, he warned.

Maithri SMaithri beautifully reminded his audience of the great Gandhi who gave himself up for a noble cause. He reminded the audience about Nelson Mandela who languished in prison for 27 years; how he achieved his power- goal, completed his mission for South Africa, never asked for another term and handed over to another leader elected under democratic rule. The audience gave Maithri a rapturous endorsement when he said: “I am no Gandhi. I am no Nelson Mandela. But I regard the spirituality and philosophy of these personages in the highest esteem.” Maithri gave just 100 days to demolish the Executive Presidential system and restore parliamentary democracy in Sri Lanka under which every party can live and compete peacefully for the popular vote.

I thought, for an ordinary farmer’s son who grew in a colonization scheme built by DS Senanayake (Maithri mentioned this) this was most amazing. I have listened to Oxford-educated politicians of Sri Lanka but the latter were no par with the understanding that Maithri exhibited. He showed considerable restraint, used the right metaphors and demonstrated a clarity of thinking that converted me into a fan. To a cognitively receptive and intelligent person political experience is adequate to impart a sophisticated level of self-education, I thought. Here is a leader with his feet firmly on the ground who does rise far above ground.

Sri Lankans must join hands to shed this path toward a dictatorial system that most unfortunately its current President has set out to inflict on the people. Sri Lankans, unlike citizens inhabiting the arenas of dictatorial establishments in countries like Africa, are an intelligent, literate, educated, freedom-loving  people. Democracy has been comfortably rooted in this beautiful island. Many a time have Sri Lankans exercised their franchise to change governments. This very possibility of change acted as a check and balance on a ruling elite. It was an open society that the island possessed. Diversities had been respected and popular consent constantly sought. Information was open. Why on earth has Mahinda Rajapakse sought to lock the island in a dictatorial system? Mahinda does have a problem with his close associates and sycophants who have  contributed toward a delusional personality disorder that he now suffers from. The end would be that the people will forget even the good he had done.

Thanks Shyamon, for letting us know the contents of Maitree’s speech. Seems like he wants to run a positive campaign to educate the Sinhala Masses on the need to clean up the HUB OF CORRUPTION which Lanka has become under Mahinda Rajapaksa and his corrupt family rule..

Maitri Sirisena needs to SAVE THE SLFP as well – from the Rajapaksa family business that it has become with Jarapassa’s brothers, sons, nieces, nephews and in laws running the party like it is a FAMILY BUSINESS!

      RE:This Man Maithripala

This Man Maithripala is the Common Sense Man who will rescue the populace from the MaRa dictatorship. However, Sri lankan writer need to step in and produce Common Sense Pamphlet 2014 just like Thomas Paine Did in 1776 for America.

Shyamon Jayasinghe, thanks, and can you be the Common Snse author for Sri Lanka 2014. After All, you have been the Pothe Gura for Maname. Can you be the Common Sense Gura for Common sense?

On 8th September, 2010 Anura Dissanayaka of the JVP said in Parliament that even Mr. Basil Rajapaksa would be ill-treated due to the 18th amendment adopted to get more power for the executive President.

He said serious crises would develop in the government in 2014 and it would politically harm not only Ministers such as John Seneviratna, Maithripala Sirisena, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Rajitha Senaratna but also their children.

Amaraya always hijack the comments to highlight his bull,

instead of posting the comment like everyone else, he post his comment as a reply to 1st comment appearing against the article.

Clear sign of cheep exhibitionism. Amaraya thinks his comments are superior to everyone else. He wants to be the prominent one among the commentators. What a pathetic fellow, paw ithin. There are few other also who do this. born colors of some lankans would never change.

“This Man Maithripala” is all exuberance for the Sinhalese waiting to get rid of the present day Dutagemunu, but for Tamils he might still turn out to the next Dutagemunu in waiting.

The war crimes, crimes against humanity and the genocide of Tamils cannot be swept under the carpet who ever comes to power.

As far as the Tamils are concerned: It doesn’t matter if Rama rules or Ravana rules, or the monkey who is associated with them rules until they are free from Sinhalese oppression, Amen.

Thiru, I think we all understand Tamil peoples concerns and feelings. It is not only one ethnic group that suffered from the war. In other groups have the same concerns. But look at here , he talk about Ghandi and Nelson Mandela chinthanaya instead of Mahinda chinthanaya! We dont have to believe words, but need to do something before we go further. It is much better to light a one candle than hate the darkness, isnt it? You and all other same minded our brothers and sisters must understand ,it is not easy to change everything in one night. It is not even fruitful to hate and retaliate at the first chance we get. remember in WW 11 US bombed Hiroshima. It killed massive number of people and caused huge destruction for the country. They even forgot and work towards reconciliation and rebuilding of the nation. We must work together for Democracy and better life for all our brothers and sisters, children and for everyone. I hope Hon. Sambandhan and Mps like Sumanthiran understand this reality.Even though they havent come forwardto say, no doubt they are in faour of this campaign. They are well experience, matured politicians and we all should respect them without any reservations. Therefore we must unite to change this disgusting socio, economic and political culture ASA possible. It is our duty!

            Thiru,
            I agree totally with Mr.Jayasinghe,
            Give the man a chance.
He sounds genuine and he has sacrificed some comfort to do what he is doing today.
So far he hasn’t mentioned any thing controversial.

MR need to be removed democratically, at any cost.Eeverything else would be for negotiation after parliamentary elections.

Waiting another few months wouldn’t hurt anyone. But spoiling the chance for a change would be a blunder equal to many blunders committed by VP Himself in the name of Tamil interest.(You know which once I am talking about).
Even if the minorities doesn’t get anything out of this election, doesn’t mean the Majority shouldn’t deserve some thing better for them.
            Be generous and garicious.

This is how the Sinhalese politicians fooled the Tamils before independence saying: We are brothers why ask for autonomy for Tamils from the British, let’s get independence first and we can sort it out afterwards.

What did they do after independence? Removed the citizenship of Upcountry Tamils and started oppressing the Tamils in every respect from language, education, jobs, and colonizing the Tamil region in the North-East.

They are using the same strategy now, and Tamils should not fall prey to the cunning of the Sinhalese politicians.

Sinhalese people are the most cunning on Earth like foxes; in a vivid example they turned Tamils fight for liberation into LTTE terrorism and got the support of 23 countries to defeat the war of liberation of Tamils.

Tamils beware of the cunning of these Sinhalese politicians: We have got burnt so many times in pogroms, state terrorism, land grabbing, etc.

Smart people learn from others mistakes, if we are wise we should learn from our own mistakes!

Or be condemned as fools for ever by the world.

“vivid example they turned Tamils fight for liberation into LTTE terrorism and got the support of 23 countries to defeat the war of liberation of Tamils.”

                Time for interospection:

What is LTTE/VP’s contribution towards this?

1.Killing of Sri Sabaratnam (TELO),Padmanaba(EPRLF),Uma Maheswaran(PLOTE),Mahendraraja AKA Mahthiah(LTTE)and many other fellow travelers.

2.Killing of Indian prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

3.Mass evacuation of Muslims from North.

4.Killing of Policeman in Captivity in Batticola.

5.Massacurring Sinhala civilians First in Anuradhapura and then killing the Monks in Aranthangal.

                6.Mosque killings in Kathankudi.

7.Attacking Places of Worship ie: Thalatha Maligawa.

LTTE Brutality towards Tamils,Tamil speaking Muslims and Sinhala civillians was rightly called Terrorism.

That doesn’t make the Tamil’s legitimate aspirations and struggle any less important or irrelavant.

This is where Mahinda mislead the Sinhala masses and the World in general went wrong.LTTE is not Tamils .Tamils are not LTTE.

It is the current day Tamil leadership’s responsibility to claim the moral and ethical high ground to reestablish Legitimacy to Minority struggle.

This can only be done by alligning with progressive forces within and out side the island.

Wiggy,Sampandan,Mavai,Sumanthran and Mano are on the right track.

That is all I am asking.

Sorry if I have hurt your feelings.

OK guys, you all attach labels on me – negative, ungracious, not generous, impatient, or even LTTE rump.

Going by historical facts, has any one of the Sinhalese leaders since independence; DS Senanayake, SWRD, Srimao, JR, Premadasa, Chandrika, or Mahinda done anything positive for the Tamil people?

              None!

It is sheer stupidity to think that any new Sinhalese leader will do any good to Tamils, especially after defeating the Tamils’ war of liberation.

here is another gem ,who van beat this ?

On Tuesday Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Ratnaweera came up with the most atrocious argument yet for why the UPFA Government should remain in power, saying ministers in office had “plundered enough” while the advent of a UNP Government would mean fresh faces that would have to start all over again and “make a killing.”

            The student responded:

No we receive aids to create disasters.

Wow! [Edited out] Shyamon seems to be highly impressed that his old party (he ignorantly calls it the GOP like the Americans call their Conserrvative Party) is going to be saved by ths new messiah.

He does not have enough political sense to work out that “My-three” came through Chandrilka’s plot that deceived Ranil. His master’s son Sajith, Karu J and Daya Gamage agreed only reluctantly to this latest trick. Chandrika is behind it to get her allowance raised again.

This collective of loosers (Chandrika, Ranil, My-three) will never be accepted by the majority in Sri Lanka who are eternally grateful to MR for saving the country from the its virtual end by standing up to internationl conspirators Solheim, David Miliband and others.

Good one! Now the WINNING strategy based on COLLABORATION among equals – of the joint opposition candidate is becoming clear.

Fools like Dayan Jayatileka have asked false questions like “who will rule?” and suggests that Dictator Mahinda Jarapassa is the only one MACHO enough to rule Lanka! Dayan reveals his fondness for dictators.

The question “who will rule” is a false question to mislead people. The short answer to such a question is: It is BEST when there is a group of powerful leaders to COLLABORATE and CHECK EXCESSES and lead the country – especaily through the TRANSITION form MILITARY DICTATORSHIP back to Democracy.

Hope Matri Sirisens will make the case to the public that Democracies run on solid INSTITUTIONS not INDIVIDUAL DICTATORS. It is dictatorships that run on single CORRUPT individuals like Jarapassa.
In democracies there need to be STRONG INSTITUTIONS and multiple individuals (Cabinet) to lead a country. Of course in Sri Lanka Jarapassa has distorted and destroyed all institutions.

Good and a realistic analysis. It is pleasing to see some level headed person nominated as the presidential candidate with the hope and expectation of having a change in the presidentialsystem.

All the good thinking people must rally round him and see to his success. Mostly within the UNP the diffferent groups must understand the benefits the party will derive from this change in the system.
Some utterances by Sajith in ameeting in kurunegala as reported in the press, shows a ulterior motive probably to mislead the public and even the speech by Tissa, the secretary of UNp sounds similar.
These must be stopped once and for all and a clean, united campaign must be carried out. Perhaps ths partyleadership should speak to all party men and guide them on what to say re various issues, at the election meetings.

Harin Fernando deserved to win Uva. He had everything going for him until MR descended on the scene with the treasury resources, bribed voters and all sundry.

It should have only been a local contest. MR did not allow that election to be a fair game.

The problem is the unethical behavior during elections. A further problem is how easily public fall prey to them. If MR says he reduce the price of bread everyone will vote for him without thinking the larger picture.

Good piece, well-written and fair view that represents many of us.
Mara first jailed General Fonseka who won the war for us. This was to capture the total credit for the war success. Having convinced our foolish educated classes that he alone won the war without a General Mara went on and on with further and further abuses of power. He took over 3/4 of the budget for his family. He created a bogus Divineguma out of CBK’s Samoordi. When CJ ruled the law illegal Mara stepped out to have CJ abused in Parliament by Pavithra the apavithra whom he later promoted as Minister of Energy although she doesn’t know a damn about electricity other than to put the switches on and off at home. Then Mara got CJ illegally removed shocking the world. His stooges like that Anura fellow he has now illegally appointed SLFP Gen Sec. He backed Kudu Dumie when the latter murdered Bharata. The Jayawradena Hospital Staff was removed overnight and new people replaced to cover up Kudu Dumie. So many nasty and foul things Mara did. Lasantha was killed.

To me, every politician of the present are in the same boat.

Politicians of the yester-year sacrificed their own wealth to be in

politics. It is public knowledge that the Bank balance of late Mr.

Dudley Senanayake, about the time he passed away was only Rs.

500/=. Can anybody tell me the name of a present day politician

who has sacrificed that much? All of them are wealthy and

prosperous reflected by the sizes of the belly and the neck (No

    neck at all).

It is in that context that I view both sides of the divide. Both of

them can claim to be Farmers’ Sons. Feet firmly on the ground!

Both of them can choose to do so and choose to be otherwise as

well. Rackets! I do not want to be a habitual defamer of persons.

But I can boldly say that both of them jolly well subscribe to the

dictum “Make hay while the sun shines and do so for seven

generations” (හත්මුතු පරම්පරාවටම). Morals! Both of them have

an excellent record being fit to be senior members of “Romeo’s

Club”. As late Dr. W. Dahanayake puts it, politics is “podi-trics”

and present day politicians know how to do that very well. Once

elected, whether locally or nationally they think that they are the

    petty king of the electors.

Why on earth has Mahinda Rajapakse sought to lock the island in

a dictatorial system? Good God! the same is said of Lee Kuan

Yew by his opponents who are not given any publicity. Any Sri

Lankan is generally aware of the “Rajapakse Palanaya” and any

Polonnaruwian knows what “Maithree Palanaya” is. Even Ranil

Wickramasinghe was accused of the same charge by his own

ministers at the time he was the Prime Minister.

I may be the odd man out. Sri Lanka may have men full of

masculinity but finding a gentleman who can command the

respect of others is very rare. Irrespective of the elections called

for, I maintain that the need of the hour is for a gentleman who

can command the respect of others, even as a figure-head

President who can set the tone of conduct of the country. It is

known that the German President once ordered Chancellor

Merkel not keep a certain matter secret but to make it public so

    that everybody knows.

    God bless Sri Lanka!

Nelson Mandela became President when he was 76 and remain President till he was 81. Only a mad man would have wanted another term at the age of 81. As any other sane man, Mandela didn’t want another term. MR is still 68 and fiscally and mentally fit. One doesn’t need a higher education for these simple reasoning. So it’s absurd to expect MR to quit like Mandela. Besides, majority Sri Lankan want MR to be the President for another term. Needless to say that this election will decide that.

Talking about Mahatma Gandhi, he never wanted to take the responsibility as the PM of India. While Mahatma was the spiritual leader of India, the country the British held together was divided. And the result was millions of deaths, homelessness and pandemonium. Is that what My3 wanted Sri Lanka to be under him?

I am glad MR didn’t follow Mahatma’s philosophy and let Sri Lanka divided in to pieces. I am grateful to MR for ending the 30 year war with terrorists and brought peace to Sri Lanaka.

The US is a great country today because Abraham Lincoln fought a four year civil war to force a one country idealogy on separatist in spite of 600,000 deaths. If Sri Lanka is divided like Mahatma’s India we would be fighting a never ending war for years to come just like Pakistan and India. I don’t think by far the majority Sri Lankas want a Mahatma in MR.

When RanilW was the anticipated common candidate, I calculated MR will win the Presidential race with only plus or minus 52%. As the days gone by I observe at the village level that that percentage could be increased substantially.

When My3 declared himself as the common candidate, I have increased MR’s winning margin for I knew he is much lower caliber opponent to MR than RanilW. As My3 plod in to the quagmire of common policies and his programme as Executive President he is visibly facing the bait of his would be backers. Sirisena who lost his job as a Grama Niladhari due to the activities of UNP has ultimately gone to the den of UNP and worshiped the existing and past leaders of that party. However he has no evidence to show Mr. Rajapakse has become a dictator. So far he has not shown any dissatisfaction with the present regime. He has wished to become Prime Minister without any qualifications for that post. Present P. M. is posted there for tactical reasons: he is an upcountry man, and Kandyans are satisfied that one of them is in a superior position in the country. In addition Mr. Jayaratne is a founder member of SLFP and is a fearless man who was ready to sacrifice his life for the party. He never deserted the party however weak was the party. What has Maitripala done to save SLFP. Maitripala represents farmers in Rajarata. Farmers are very humble people who does not want even to own a piece of land for themselves. They prefer to be eternal slaves working for the landowners. They never asked for ownership of land in 1956. Bandaranayake forcibly gave them land. Same mentality is expressed by Sirisena. He does not want power for himself. He want to deliver it to the most reactionary capitalists in Sri Lanka. This is the slave mentality of the Rajarata uneducated backward peasant. Now he has become a servant in Sirikotha. While in SLFP he had some dignity. He although an uneducated man, was treated with respect by the members of SLFP. Even Rajapakses gave him the maximum position he is capable of being holding. Can he be given the post of Fianance Minister or Minister of foreign Affairs? Sirisena has not learned English although he was a Minister for number of years. How can we send him abroad for negotiations if the need arises for that. Now Sirisena has to beg for money from most reactionary elements in the business world. In return Sirisena will be obliged to answer their needs. As soon as the elites achieve power they would get rid of Sirisena. He is only a ladder constructed for the benefit of the corporate elite. This is the Rajarata farmer’s fate!

      Kunajali marikkar,

I believe you are frustrated that someone deserving and acceptable has emerged as a common candidate representing the opposition. You are trying to degrade him in many ways. You are saying that he does not know English, how stupid you are. Do you need to know English to be the head of the country? Does Modi speak fluent english? Doesn’t he meet foreign dignatories both in India and overseas? Please appreciate that an ordinary person from a distant rural area has emerged which part of thw democracy.

Modi may be lampooned as a ‘chaiwallah’ but he certainly is educated (University of Delhi, Gujarat University) and speaks pretty decent English, though his speeches may be written by others. He is an ordinary Indian who comes from a ‘backward class’ but who rose to great heights by his own efforts, and hence all the more deserving of emulation. It must be appreciated that conditions for people from poorer backgrounds to rise in Indian society do exist today, as it is in Sri Lanka.

Just imagine. What kind of intellect is possessed by a human that worships another human? Worse, worshipping the dental remains of another human.

Think. Is such a human worthy of being handed over responsibility for governing a country?

I am sure we need a change now. Our political system is moving to the grave. We need a change, need a reform. It is sad to say that parliament is the most prestigious place in the country. but seeing how those men behave (their vocabulary, their body language) in the parliament feels sad about our childrens’ future. Some how MR can’t control these men, or he doesn’t want to control them at all.

Therefore, at least we will get the peaceful, respectable society once Maitree wins.

Considering the saddest and the worst plight that the country and people as whole are undergoing and could face in the future no doubt a complete change in governance is necessary. In that respect Maithripala’s words seem to be encouraging, but let it not be forgotten everyone who came to power beginning from JR made the same promises in different words but were different in practice. Maithri too could be the same unless the civil society gets organised and become assertive in regulating the actions of Maithri and his Govt. so that they will honestly work towards building up a healthy nation.

Interesting article like many others, but I think that we should ponder awhile before rushing to full-blown adulation of our new broom. True, we have been waiting for a hero, but it must have been a damascene conversion for our Maithripala who was a staunch supporter of MaRa and the Regime to suddenly turn.
Was it the realisation that an opportune, never-to-be-missed moment had come?
Was it the charm and wily persuasion of a mischievous woman puppeteer who would play King Maker? Of course the New Maithripala COULD rise to the occasion, but prudence demands that we wait and see the colours of the flag he hoists before rushing to anoint him with our fragrant and sacred oils.

    Shaymon,
The Light of the Dhamma did NOT shine of the minorities of this Dharmadwipa.
Maithripala who grew up in the lands of the Gal Oya scheme of D.S.Senanayake would have known this, as locals of the eastern province were excluded from colonisation, which was almost entirely of families from the southern province.

Maithripala will I hope, stop the colonisation on state lands of the north by people from the south, and restore the lands plundered from citizens of the north and east, to rightful owners, and release those
imprisoned without trial under the PTA.
But the all-powerful army will resist – I hope that the new government of Maithripala will demolish the military’s influence – else, we will end up like Pakistan.

If the opposition, who seems to have got their act together, can keep this momentum going, there are strong chances that Sri Lanka can have real democracy and no dictatorship. As long as the collective parties can keep their resolve not be be fractured or deliberately torn apart, there is hope.
Since our people have this weakness to bend according to the winds, they should have strong resolve to not be swayed by anything, the regime may try to do to break this union.
The people will want a change, and have lost too much already.

I watched this same video online, it was an excellent speech. I salute our future president Mr. Sirisena! He tells the truth, any Sri Lankan who wants democracy, freedom, peace, eradicate corruption and bright future for all Srilankans, we need a leader like Mr. Sirisena. He is a clean, humble, down to earth, ordinary person from Polonnaruwa. His first job was “Grama Sevaka” in polonnaruwa district, he quit his job and joined SLFP to serve the country for honest cause. I think this is a great opportunity for all Srilankans to come together and save this country from this corrupt MR regime.

Good, a change is required and the direction UPFA took is proven suicidal. But this change to come out as a replacement leadership right now shows no guarantee all politicized Institutions will be liberated and given freedom for new innovations and developments. Education, Employment and Industries have been run as Government Institutions for a long time. All those in high positions are political appointments. Government and Private sector employees are political appointed for a long time now. Has this now culminated with the CJ appointment? Every election time politicians thrive on violence targeting minorities. The more the minorities get oppressed better the chances for the winning candidate. What proposals does the emerging Regime has put forward in its manifesto and prove majority Sri Lankans abide by common human sense and give up violence?

King maker Chandrika Gandhi made two kings, Mahinda and Maithiri. The Gandhi maker Shaymon Gandhi made two Gandhis out of Ranil and Maithiri. (Absolute comedy pieces are these Sinhala Intellectuals.)

Mohanadas Gandhi not just wanted the EPM post of India, he even did not wanted the congress go on and eventually produce a Sonia Gandhi. He had the leash of the congress, but he did not rule it over. In fact he let it very loose other than keeping it on the focus of the freedom fight from the occupying forces. But our Ranil Gandhi not just forcefully sitting on the UNP’s head, he is waiting other Gandhis to deliver him the EPM in behalf of the EP he could not get. After making that greedy person as Ranil Gandhi, Shaymon Gandhi took another hand full of Rajarata Clay to make Maithiri Gandhi.

Maitihri Gandhi, the son of the Albert Gandhi living as Sinhala Buddhist in the Acres of Land donated by DS Gandhi, who distributed lands in Rajararata area for Singha Gandhis only, after disenfranchising the Tamils. For while being a Sinhala Buddhist, remained a communist and a JVP terrorist , Maithiri Gandhi was imprisoned by the Attanagala Queen Srimavo Gandhi. He was upgraded by the princess Chandrika Gandhi as a “Sinhala Intellectual” for occupy some posts in SLFP government. Subsequently after he was made as King by Chandrika Gandhi, the high priest Shaymon Gandhi has communed the JVP terrorist Maithiri Gandhi as Nelson Gandhi.

When Mahindha Gandhi came to power, basically, nobody did know who are these Gota Gandhi, Namal Gandhi et al. But, when the Bandit Queen, the Attanagala Princess made a King out of Maithiri Gandhi his son Gandhi and the Brother Gandhi had achieved the required level of banditry and Nepotism to start the readymade familial corporate headquarters instead of taking 10 years to the promotions catch up.

It appears Shaymon Gandhi is the one wrote the last speech for Maithiri Gandhi. It was much deviated from the Ranil Gandhi’s statements. Even Chandrika Gandhi does not speak like that.

Shaymon Gandhi probably tried say through Maiththiri Gandhi’s mouth that he is not Mohandas Gandhi or Nelson Gandhi. This is how he may have try portray him equal or better than Talaivar Pirabhaharan. Anybody can accept that, but Malliyuran Gandhi won’t.

    Shyamon,

In America they call Maithripala’s personality type…looking Presidential. His demeanor is calm, collected and that means he is thinking whilst he is speaking. Not an empty vessel!

He needs educated people around him who will advise him on a range of issues. NOT people with agendas of their own. I don’t think he does because we are witnessing these developments since just two weeks. Prior to that he was just a figurehead in the government.

Therein lies the risks of PR and political missteps he cannot afford to make. The UNP thinks it has experts but I don’t see a single who can write a speech Ranil can deliver. To begin with, Ranil is no Lalith or Kadirgamar. Maithripala thinks well on his feet and that augurs well for all our futures.

And, who knows when he becomes President, the SLFP might just about come together to give the UNP a fight in the General elections. Now, that would be true leadership…

    Mr.Jeyasinghe:

I was most impressed listening and watching to the video going round of the speech that Maithri delivered at the UNP Headquarters before a UNP audience of stalwarts and rank and file. This is a genuine leader born of Lankan soil, I thought. Maithri instantly grasped his audience’ aspirations and apprehensions-which is the most important thing for a public speaker. He knew there were many doubts and suspicions and misunderstandings among the men and women of the Grand Old Party that have been long in the political drought.

*** The above might be a true and accurate description of the man of the moment. But to cut ice with the vast majority of Lankans you have to play the poker game of the Race Card and no plays that better than Mahintha. So the winner is the King.
But dont worry help is on hand and Sanctions are around the corner. We have to change the Sinhalese mentality once and for all and that can only happen when it hurts the Tummy and Pocket and people go round with begging bowl.

Kali says: But dont worry help is on hand and Sanctions are around the corner. We have to change the Sinhalese mentality once and for all and that can only happen when it hurts the Tummy and Pocket and people go round with begging bowl.`

As a concept even that British lass Gold medalist JNU Kate Noble in her last article said the same `Badagini`

You are well aware there is a $6billion input into SL from the Tamil population that escaped to the west- Walk into any JT restaurant or Grocery shop apart from the trips to Lanka. its all SL goods that can be substituted from other sources. If commentators like you and controllers like GTF, TGT etc etc do not give them that alternative the shops will not budge from their lucrative income generating products. From the western point of view too we would wonder what are you doing about it now that you tried the irish way (smoking guns and judiciary) and have had no recourse. if you don’t work as a catalyst for the west to feel sorry for you and create the sanctions on their part to make the impact I doubt there would be any.
BTW garments is making a different turn in Vietnam, Burma and has nothing to do with JT or Lanka.
The UNHCR might take stern action if BBS attacks the muslim population because they now have the vote and the man with it as head- The prince with anglo saxon wife and vip islamic council.
JT’s have boasted that we are capable of multi attacks etc and sinhala cannot face it true because you even drove the hindians away for the sihala so that they may not capture the south and lanka and the bragging about your thala thel mind being superior yes at maths but you cannot write like the sihala folk.

        Javi you Jihadist:

Stop talking rubbish. Just look at the following and that reveals your ignorance as it doesn’t make any sense.

“If commentators like you and controllers like GTF, TGT etc etc do not give them that alternative the shops will not budge from their lucrative income generating products ”

If the British Government imposes sanctions none of this Lucrative income generating products will be allowed in to Britain or any other countries where all these restaurants are doing brisk business. They will have to find alternative suppliers.
So your theory goes out of the window.

“The UNHCR might take stern action if BBS attacks the muslim population because they now have the vote and the man with it as head”

Don’t talk rubbish the head ( or shall I say headless ) is the Buddhist Monk ” Banki Bloody Moon” and he calls the shots as to who BBS can attack and that is you lot.

Maggie Thatcher opened the doors in 1983 to the urban population of Colombo but the terror outfit who had ticketing offices at colombo were quick to send the JT’s to the west- this is clean history and I don’t need to disgrace you stupid JT’s anymore by going into details and destroying the other tamils in lanka you despise.

The wholesalers of Grocery items in the UK are Sinhal (they own those spice plantations and MD is a government enterprise, Larich is colombo based)
and they have been operating in the UK before your terrorism- UKPola Ranasinghe is kandy boy, Kaputa is online too same Perera of Canada. Then there are other Sihal folk who specialise in Tea, specific spices because they own estates over there- Macwoods is now the tea that is sold at gourmet restaurants of London and that is Nonis.

Be practical they wont dance to your tune where 10% of the people with track record of driving away even the other 10% minority and requesting for 50% of the land.

You are afraid of your shadow because of your sadness that even your amma got clobbered because of JT’s.

To the UK/US Lanka is not a priority even with China or Hindia there- Diego Garcia is too very powerful for any of those too.
Putin is afraid of the defence shield at Cádiz the first of its kind for europe when it was unveiled exactly one year ago.
You JT’s with the smoking gun are trying to behave like babies when elk of your culture are with Goo`ta to drive away the Hindians from south if they ever return which I doubt because the IPKF is still smarting.
Don’t vote like if you want your man at Den Hague where if convicted would get a sentence but would be back on payroll because the whole world went against you in 2009 and they are guilty too.
If you vote and the opposition sihala might hang them or let them run because they have slaughtered many a sihala too.
In the present world of selfishness it is virtuous yet you have to be practical.
