This Picture Of Mahinda Says Thousand Words

…. A world where black magic ruled and dark spirits and planets swayed the lives of men and women.”

Readers, it will excite you to try and read this picture of Mahinda Rajapaksa. Try to gauge the character and mindset of the man who ruled Sri Lanka like a dictator for ten years and is now demanding more ruling time.

Any of you noticed a most valuable piece written on MR’s character by Melbourne’s psychiatrist, Dr Prasad Mohotti, and published in the Colombo Telegraph? If you missed it go to archives and stretch it out. I will borrow some of Prasad’s ideas in getting this article together.

Dr Prasad states that MR suffers from a narcissistic personality disorder. Narcissism means love for oneself and the word originated from the myth about Narcissus getting drowned by contemplation and admiring the reflection of his image in the pool. MR was thrilled to bits so much when the “Maharajaneni,” song was composed and sung in his presence that he gifted the composer and singer. A road was named after the singer. MR was similarly thrilled when the popular actor, Jackson Anthony, announced the results of his personal historical research, namely that Mahinda Rajapaksa hails from a long line to which the Buddha belonged! They say Jackson was amply rewarded.

Being my good pal, I hope he was.

MahindaAsks Dr Prasad, “Why does a narcissist put up a grandeur façade? The psychological explanation is that a grandeur façade is an unconscious mechanism to cover his weak and fragile ego. A person with a weak ego has limited capacity to reflect on him or herself. Their grandeur self-image would not allow them to be self-critical and learn from their mistakes, because such action is unbearable to a fragile ego.”

A more humble man, conscious of his human foibles and limitations and ready to share his achievements with others in the team, would recoil at suggestions like this or metaphorically gone six feet under the earth when they were uttered. In the case of our hero-that was not to be. The hero, as Prasad says, managed to convince the population that it was himself who singlehandedly fought and won the war. Lankan media gave the impression that the war had been virtually fought without an army commander. The public swaying had been so great that when MR dragged and jailed the army commander, Sarath Fonseka, and grabbed his hard-won titles for career bravery there was little and short-lived opposition. The few that waded their way toward the jail in protest were hammered with iron bars and sticks

Dr Prasad cites the Diagnostic Manuel of American Psychiatric Association (DMAPA) and identifies five criteria of narcissistic disorder. A fantasy of grandeur is one. The picture under reference shows MR looking proud with the many gold rings in his fingers. They are shining gold that exudes richness and grandeur.

The demand for excessive admiration is another criteria. MR shows his gold rings as though he wants us to be dumbstruck and admire him for the suggestion of prowess that the rings emanate.

A sense of self-entitlement is another of the DMAPA criteria list. MR displays his gold as though he is entitled to the gold and requiring others to acknowledge that possession. It is the same sense of entitlement that made him organize the ‘bring-back’ rallies and also go before his successor asking for PM candidature. Maitri is wise to disallow that because if MR wins and if he becomes PM his narcissism will lead him to browbeat and overwhelm the humble Maitri. Men imbued with excessive and paranoid narcissism are dangerous team mates.

Take a closer look at the MR image. To me MR looks weirdly mentally possessed here. Another dimension, unmentioned by Dr Prasad, can be read in the MR picture. This is the invasion of his psyche with a belief in the occult or in an extra-terrestrial spirit which he thinks can make him draw anyone under his spell. It is the confidence he has in the power of black magic. MR’s narcissism is thus a black magic- tainted narcissism. Note the weird-shaped, paranormal-looking ring between the forefinger and middle finger. The story is that MR had spent millions to get that mesmerizing device made up by a Hindu black magic man. Was it at state expense? Or off the Divineguma funds?

Did you also note the thick orange-coloured ‘pirith nool’ just inside his cuff? MR wanted all the black magic protection he could get.

This particular dimension of character that is brought out by the picture reveals MR’s worldview. Although a man of the raw earth driven by material desires, MR inhabited a universe where dark spirits ruled and planets swayed the lives of men and women.

He does not believe in a universe entirely operated by natural causes and effects. This is why he listened to his astrologer, Sumane, and launched the Presidential elections.

The point is, once such bizarre beliefs infect your mind they don’t leave you, even if events contradict them. It is very similar to religious beliefs about God and divine salvation. You tend to find a way out to explain an ‘exception.’ Hence, MR will continue to believe in the dark arts. His politics is a chess game with the devil.

The world of David Cameron and the world of Mahinda Rajapaksa are poles apart. Our man has crap in his head.

Good article! I did not like the reference to a “Hindu black magic man” though. Black magic has no religion. Its practitioners belong to all religions be they in Sri Lanka, Thailand, Sudan, the African continent or Latin America. And it is doomed to fail as Mahinda/Premadasa illustrate.

But, Mahinda got this from a Kerala-based poosaari. The mainstream Hindus (well, Hinduism is NOT a religion in my view though) do not have black magic among their instruments.

From the above picture my first impression was why didn’t MR wear more gold rings to adore his all fingers.

The similarity between Lord Buddha and dictator Mahinda in respective abdication and abuse of power must have confused not only Jackson Anthony but once pronounced intellectuals of the calibre of Vasudeva Nanayakara, DEW Gunasekara and Tissa Vitharane and few others of lesser standing in return for the favours extended by the lover of luxuries to protect and shield his projected false image of a good ruler. Now his concealed personality is gradually exposed and when proven he will be humiliated like other rulers of the Arab world.

All what you say may be true but this mental patient is going wild in Sri Lanka and causing severe damage to the country. He will not agree to go to a psychiatrist and his henchaiyyas would capitalise on his mental condition. He loves power and he will not give up than longing. I don’t think your analysis would be useful unless you also tell us how to deal with this megalomaniac

Thank you Shyamon Jayasinghe for your observations. I was suspecting that MR was eccentric in his actions but now I am convinced. As for his offsprings, it proves that Apples do not fall far from the tree and that the unstable DNA that is present in MR is also in his siblings and may be passed down from generation to generation.

No his head line is not going across his palm. It goes towards the area in between the index and middle finger. Which means he knows the meaning of love. Watch carefully between the first line and the middle line of the jupiter finger runs accross another line , indicating that he would be possessing all the wealth of the universe .

He does not have the success line or the sun line . his power was short lived with in that 10 years

Anti Sinhala Sinhalese, Jayasingham,is more worried and scared of Rajapaksa now than when he was the President.

Jayasingham must have been watching the Jana Bala Vegaya gathering momentum at a great rate of knots since the first rally in Nugegoda.

Next one in on the Holy Turf of Anuradapura may have 88 SLFP MPs, because they know that by being seen with Sira and Ranil wouldn’t get them any seats in Sinhala areas at the coming election..

    And I can understand that.
    .
Why do you think Sira said in public that one term is enough and he will go to pastures himself .

    I can understand that too,

And the Son has buckley’s with his Police report, even if Ranil gives Jr a spot in the UNP opposition ticket

Ranil and his UNP stooges also must be worried because how many votes the Tamils and Muslims can cast, unless they use some Hora Votes.

So it is a very precarious situation , the Elite and the , Anglicans are placed at the moment.

Tamils and Muslims are in a win win situation.

Sambandan as late as yesterday declared that Sira will honour his promises and give him Autonomous Homeland aka Eelaam.

Wonder whether Sambandan is going to run his Homeland in Yarlpanam from Cinnamon Gardens.

Baththudeen in the mean time is going full bore settling his own people on traditional Tamil lands in the East.

That is according to the Eelaam sources in the East as well as in the Diaspora Lands’ Eelaam publications.

You will begin to realise all of MR’s eccentricities have valid reasons. What you and his dwindling band of supporters are doing is pampering to his ego which must be like a dose of oxygen. Believe me, you are doing a disservice to the disease and is perpetuating his narcissism and he will never be cured. If you have any love for the man, you will stop.

for the writer & all the above like to remind, if they have memory loss that this is the man who saved thousands of SRIlankan lives by finishing the war. It was his great leadership that lead to victory of the war which dragged for decades. Simply because of the fact that our previous leaders coudn’t stand against the international pressures , & not the fact SL army couldn’t beat tamil tigers.
& ALL the above should do a but of soul searching whether it’s fair to write about MR this way. Nobody is perfect & what’s wrong with him believing in Astrology or carrying a good luck charm.

If you call MR a dictator , Lee Kwan Yew who brought singapore to prosperity is a dictator. But the singaporean people were smart enough to recognize who will bring their country to Prospirity. Unfortunately we Srilankan doesn’t Have that ability.

For you to compare mahinda to lee kuan just shows you don’t understand how intelligent Lee was.Real inteliigence is where you can forecast where you would like to be in 5-10 years time and have a vision and plan for it.Others with less intelligence would grapple with day to day problems instead.mahinda was that type.mavilaru made him sit up and take notice of prabhaharan and fonseka and gota had a tough time convincing him that LTTE could be vanquished, but ultimately they prevailed on him.

Then after the war was over also he had no vision for the country at all in a post war scenario.he thought that war victory is enough to keep him going just like an idiot will think a full tank of petrol is enough to go right round the country without filling up again.

A pathetic display of average IQ.To compound the problem further he surrounded himself with average or low IQ people to whom he listened, except maybe GL Peiris whom he would not have listned to anyway. So the main difference was that compared to the high IQ of lee kuan, mahinda’s average IQ was not sufficient to propel this country into the developed world stage.

the second factor was integrity.Compared to LEE,mahinda’s integrity was typical of a third world leaders standard and would have kept the country in third world status indefinitely. It would be like going in front one step and then taking one step behind albeit a bit less than the first step.certainly we would have moved forward, but at a crawl.

What we need is a person of high intelligence and integrity who can transform this country into really the wonder of asia. For that god has to be benevolent and give us such a person.Do you think taking into consideration the behaviour of srilankans so far,we deserve such benevolence from god.he has already been generous to us giving us a country with enough arable land and water unlike singapore.

But HEis a liar and a Cheater with his Family.

      Mr Lee Kuan Is not.
and when he, mr LEE was the Prime minister,
once he was booked by the Traffic Police. and he paid the Fine.
Mr Lee was not a gang leader and not a Abductor.
he did not have any connections with RAPISTS AND PUBLIC MONEY LOOTERS.
His family never looter Public Coffers.

“for the writer & all the above like to remind, if they have memory loss that this is the man who saved thousands of SRIlankan lives by finishing the war.”

If you suffer from selective amnesia I will help you to jog your memory. This is the man who killed thousands of innocent women, children, old and feeble, youth, ….

VP, Hindians, and Uncle Sam finished off the war. Give credit where credit is due.

“It was his great leadership that lead to victory of the war which dragged for decades.”

The war dragged on for decades until Hindians decided in early 2005 to bring it to an end.

“Simply because of the fact that our previous leaders coudn’t stand against the international pressures , & not the fact SL army couldn’t beat tamil tigers.”

      Are you being serious?

“If you call MR a dictator , Lee Kwan Yew who brought singapore to prosperity is a dictator.”

There has been no evidence to suggest that he stole billions of dollars from Singaporeans.

      Lee Kwan also said

“Another example is Sri Lanka. It is not a happy, united country. Yes, they [the majority Sinhalese government] have beaten the Tamil Tigers this time, but the Sinhalese who are less capable are putting down a minority of Jaffna Tamils who are more capable. They were squeezing them out. That’s why the Tamils rebelled. But I do not see them ethnic cleansing all two million-plus Jaffna Tamils. The Jaffna Tamils have been in Sri Lanka as long as the Sinhalese.”

“So what Asia saw was ethnic cleansing?”

      “That’s right.”

“They will come back, you think?”

“I don’t think they are going to be submissive or go away. The present president of Sri Lanka believes he has settled the problem; Tamil Tigers are killed and that is that.”

I look up from my notes and with a sense that here we might be seeing a side of LKY that is under-reported, I say: “See, that’s really fascinating point, because to the extent that we have any sense of who you are at all, we think of you as this hard-boiled force first guy. But in fact your system of government is much softer, consensual and intelligent, whereas what the Sinhalese in Sri Lanka are doing is a caricature of an LKY who never existed.”

Lee fights a cringe, as if fighting off a bad memory-or my bad analogy. He starts to say something, then stops, then leaves it at referring to Sri Lanka’s president: “I’ve read his speeches and I knew he was a Sinhalese extremist. I cannot change his mind.”

    Shyamon,

    Thanks.

In personal interactions between 2008 and 2010, I saw the transformation from an apparently simple man, with the vision to transform this country, to an evasive, lying, pompous, egoist. His determination to win the war was very palpable in 2008. This was realized in 2009 and seems to have set him on his path to ultimate oblivion. He had become too big for his boots!

His ring had become much bigger by 2010 and was playing with it all the time during a group meeting. It was apparently being used to influence/ mesmerize us. More rings, a key-like device and pirith threads appeared later. These increased parallel with the increase in size of his cut outs, frequency of the use of his name in public works and misuse of his elective position.

What was the role of the sycophants in boosting his ego, his transformation and ultimate dethroning? Who sensed his craving for praise and exploited it to the hilt? Who understood his generosity and subjective attitudes, to make him forget his role as an elected president? Who made him believe that poojas, yagas and pirith threads will protect him, even if he does wrong? How could he have relied on astrologers and become blind to the ground realities around him? How did he think he can mislead and cheat Gods? Who made him believe he was a Demigod? What was his degree of intelligence, spirituality and cunning? How genuine was his religiosity? Did his ability to act, fail him when he had to perform?

His story when told in the future, will never be complete. It will be to those who delve deep to understand all facets, be the complex story of a man blinded by his self-importance, who lost his way, was way-laid and ultimately destroyed.

      Rajasingham,

You say “I saw the transformation from an apparently simple man, with the vision to transform this country, to an evasive, lying, pompous, egoist.” Did it ever dawn on you that MR was always a “evasive, lying, pompous, egoist” who just managed to convince the utterly gullible that he was a “very honourable” man, as you proclaimed even as recent as perhaps a year or so ago.

Now that the cat is out of the bag, could you please enlighten us on the details about how the group meeting where he mesmerized you came about? Who arranged that meeting? Who were the participants, and how many of them paid their own way to meeting and how many were paid by the Sri Lankan tax payers (or perhaps more directly, at the expense of camp-dwellers)? What was the subject discussed, if not Diaspora fund raising?
Sincere answers to the questions will substantially enlighten you on your past stupid declarations, clouded by your own presumptions of “superhuman” capability that you credit to the Vet faculty!

I suppose before making a statement of sorts about a man’s preference for religious beliefs and wearing ‘protective’ ornaments on himself, one must first take a look around himself. Do we question the notion of muslim bigamy and point fingers for a man’s choice of having 1 or 4 wives?…. Or, do we question hindu’s when they adorn garlands of gold on their daughters at any typical hindu puberty ceremony?…

I think the mere fact that a man wears a few rings doesnt condone him a thief or a robber of sorts… and it should not be taken that way. Mohotti’s book on MR is just as good as the other man who wrote a tribute to ‘the most terryfying guerilla leader – Prabhakaran’ lol.

One thing most of you people forget is the price which many people paid to give you the freedom you enjoy today to walk on the street and head back home without fearing your own safety or the safety of your family. And until you find yourself faced with the situation of losing your life or losing your family members, you’ll only know to point fingers and make complaints. Thats one thing which many of the nimble minded lot of you know to do very well.

Truly sad to know such idiots still exist. Peace out

The Central Bank Bond Fraud on 8th March 2015 is a good example why we need Mahinda to come back. This was the largest fraud in Sri Lankas history. One of the largest frauds in Asia. Mahinda must come back to save Sri Lanka for the second time. When he was in power, no one could do robberies like these.

[Edited out], so let me tell you this. [edited out]
You complain of corruption but just the fact that today the CURRENT government passed a bill which endorsed the cost of 7Bn per KM of road construction near Kadawatha as compared to the former governments 5BN per km of the same should give you some heads up dont you think?…. If 5b was too much..lol whats the current bunch of goons doing charging 7Bn?…yahapalana much?…

Also, we saw the so called mahendran being appointed and that man fostered the greatest theft upon being appointed and now what.. he’s back on his chair and not a single so called ‘thief hunting government’ bothered to do a damn shit about getting him into prison for looting from the central bank?

oh and wait.. lol i suppose you have forgotten that even your context of writing about Narcissism on an open channel such as a news publication like this with the expectation of receiving feedback from others endorsing your opinion about this particular article is not a narcissitic attempt by you on your behalf?.. lol its self love dude… and nowadays all of you who want to express your so-called opinions out loud are indirectly narcissits too.. Mahinda Rajapakse is a an individual who plans and obtains desired results on his interactions with others.
He acquired a servile clique of acolytes with favours of many kinds, to help succeed in his ambitions, especially to bolster his image to the world.
His ‘beleif’ in astrology and talismans was to show that he is a ‘common man’ like all sri lankans, many of whom too beleive in these.
He is quite sane and his plan was to perpetuate the presidency with family members as successors, with dynastic rule over entire Sri Lanka,
at the same time amassing wealth for the entire family.
His megalomania was to show the world that he plans ‘big’ and always succeeds in everything he plans, never mind the disastrous future of the nation’s economy.
In short, he was a “Mugabe” in the making.
He would have succeeded but for the minority voters at the last presidential election.
The Sirisena regime must watch out, lest he makes a come back.
They owe this for future generations.

May be everyone should watch how MR’s astrologer Sumanadasa gets stumped everytime he tries to defend his actions, to prop-up his regime. A bloody disgrace to the whole country, to his religion as even Lord Buddha has condemned astrology, and how he held high portfolios in major government institutions like NSB Bank, EPF/ETF Dept. and like some others. A very revealing interview on how MR ran this country to the ground. Politicians were unafraid of the police and the Courts, but were afraid of the curse from astrologers.

Have some gratitude, showing your true Sinhala style of appreciation. you don’t have to vote for the man but if it wasn’t for him
You would’ve been saluted like dogs on the street by the LTTE

Gratitude for finishing a war and anger at his actions thereafter.
So overall, can’t feel much gratitude. He did a lot of damage
to the society and could have done a whole lot more too, if he was
      re-elected.

“if it wasn’t for him You would’ve been saluted like dogs on the street by the LTTE”

      Its a very good point.

If it wasn’t for VP he wouldn’t had been elected as the president in 2005. By the way if it had been for VP, Hindians, Uncle Sam he couldn’t have won the war.

Why don’t you check your facts with David Blacker before you start typing?

“Native veddas do not speak English language because they want to maintain the supreme identity.”

Those Sinhala/Buddhists bigots/hypocrites who want to preserve their “unique identity, language and heritage” do communicate in English, for example Anagarika (the Aryan homeless one) Dharmapala was fluent in English.

          What is your problem?

          LKcricket,

Finally you seem to get the point. Not just Mr. Shay on but no one was able to speak out against the DICTATOR. Today you are able to express your views (rather in in insulting manner) openly because that is how it should be. In my opinion, the oppressor and the dictator ( whom you worship as an idol) is dead.

Just because he was ruling at the time the war was ended does not make him a hero. Even a 10 year old can understand that the army killed the rebels using external forces and all the wrong things were done to achieve the result. The people responsible for that know it and must be tormented by those thoughts, I am sure.

Stop living in a fools paradise. Get your facts straight.

    Dear . Friend .
I have no objection with your regarding of Rajapaksa’s mythological belief ,but he is not the only one who is deceived by superstition . If you look at many politicians around us that you will see many are embraced into mythological belief which absolutely shame and disgusting , but what we can do . However ,I disagree with your inferior notion , firstly he did not lose election in real life but he lost to western and evil politician’s conspiracy . Which is proven today and it is the bitter truth . You probably know who could escape from the western storms ,as they can hit as tornadoes, no one can escape .,if you further want to know there would be uncountable examples in the recent past world history .so, I do not think what you mean has a great price.
You have referred as our man has craps in head , yes , he has craps in head ,that’s why he initiated and put his life with others to eradicate the menace of terrorism to bring up the liberty and freedom that you talking about , he is the one who had what would fit to our country in long run and to the future generation . , he is the one who had ideas to resuscitate the lost pride to our county for decades .but it is shame on you for not realising his good works and appreciate his them as humble citizen

What you said about MR’s contribution to eradicating terrorism is absolutely correct. No one would deny that. But MR was not defeated for that, especially the Sinhala Voters in the large swathes of the island who were blindly ready to forgive him for any villainous activity that he committed.

But he was defeated by both the remaining Sinhala and minority populations because of his megalomaniac behavior since 2009’s demise of LTTE terrorism. Even I admired him, but the day he decided to take revenge from Gen SF he proved himself to be a selfish, merciless tyrant, and many people wanted to see his back after that. The revenge mechanism that he let loose on the real heroic commander of the Army was totally uncalled for.

We know all that went on after that, the systemic plundering of the nations wealth for the benefit of his family and all criminal politicians and gangsters who were his retinue. He has made even the next 7-generations indebted to foreign banks while he, his family and all cronies pocketed illegitimate gains.

If he is superstitious then he would know clearly that it is the same Gods that he was conning at every religious institute and devaales that defeated him. Let it be a salutory lesson to any other similar Hitlers that might rise up in this land.

I’m sorry, but you are far too lenient towards the former
President . That’s the mistake Sri Lankans have been making for
a while. And the politicians make hay thanks

His over advertising during the Presidential Election was his downfall. The Public developed something called “Irritable Syndrome”during Election time. That is the Maharaja, over advertised himself with TV shows, cut outs , posters, everywhere even inside public toilets, Now people know public money was used for most of his propaganda, so that created a this “Irritable Syndrome”,among people perhaps it was because of this mental condition of narcissism . He needs to be treated for this condition

Shiamon Jayasinghe is just another blind hater of Rajapakse, who will denounce anything and everything Rajapakse did, whilst enjoying the peace dividends and economic progress of the country brought about by Rajapakse against all odds. I wonder what people like Shiamon are up to.

Dr. Prasad was mild in his observation. Equating Mahinda to a narcissist and his tryranny akin to “Narcissism” is giving undue credit to the devil. The “dictator like” Mahinda was no second to Hitler’s Nazism. Mahinda is a psychopath no worse than LTTE’s Pirahpaharan’s (Prabhakarana).

“Note the weird-shaped, paranormal-looking ring between the forefinger and middle finger”.

It’s not a ring, but the end view of a small Vajra he is balancing between his fingers, a symbolic artefact of Power one usually finds mentioned in Mahayana literature. He thinks that by carrying it, he could con the gullible public that he is a sueprior divine being specially selected to govern and have power over people by Gods, to dispense life and death decisions over the others etc. He may have believed it, but the fact is that he was using all that make believe stuff to rob the country behind his charade. Poetic justice that the vajra backfired on him, which is symbolic of natural justice. He may have fooled the people for 4-years, but he could not fool the Gods. Splat MR, by the vajra of the people.

The picture is a powerful image of a Mad King who is trying to create delusions in the mind of people that he has divine and black magic support. He seems to be trying to look like Sai Baba. He ran the country to bankruptcy with mad megalomaniac projects. MR tried the grandeur technique at the elections when he ran huge posters and cut-outs of himself every 300 meters. Maitri won without a single poster
Sri Lanka must get over this bad dreram and have elections to start on a clean slate

Shyamon has taken much effort in portraying a psycho-analysis of a defeated politician. There are enough guys and gals to surround with those in power and that accentuates any mental downfall of the powerful. The present lot could be much simpler and mentally healthy than those who were in power at the time of their defeat but it is noted that at the beginning of the regime of the defeated, they did not display the mental diseases identified and this is a good lesson for the present lot.

I think what is now required is the proper delivery of goods and services, including good governance of those who are in power. I don’t expect anybody in power to be squeaky clean but the frame-work should be such that any wrong doing on their part should be prevented and the damages be minimised.

Every developed democracy has a method having consistent policies in governing irrespective of those in power. As frequent and ad-hoc changes in policy could be disastrous for a country, there should be a mulitpartisan approach to spell out various sectoral policies and deem them as national policies. If almost the entire members of parliament could agree on 19A after much discussion, I see no reason why many other matters could be agreed upon after much consultations, which can be very long.

LET US DO WHAT IS GOOD FOR THE COUNTRY.

Watched Sumanadasa on Sathyagara – he explained what MR has in his hand,it is something to exercise his fingers on. Apparently he has several of them, so it can’t be a charm. Shameful Shamy-on-you is jumping the gun without even trying to find out what it is. This the calibre of so called journalists, just wag their tongues, no brain cells. Shame-on you (What an apt name – no doubt his parents must have realised, all mouth and empty head !)
