TNA candidate at the upcoming Northern Provincial Council election and wife of former LTTE Trincomlaee political wing leader Elilan, Ananthi Sasitharan‘s vehicle was allegedly attacked in Jaffna last night, sources told Colombo Telegraph.
The incident took place around 9:45 p.m.
Sasitharan was returning home following campaigning when heavy objects were thrown at her vehicle. Neither the candidate or her driver sustained injuries. returning home after her election campaign. The assailant was reportedly riding a motorbike, sources in the north said.
According to the candidate, she had noticed three VIP vehicles passing her vehicle before she came under attack. The motorcyclist had come up upon her vehicle when Sasitharan’s vehicle had slowed down to allow the VIP convoy to pass, sources said. A police complaint has been filed in this regard.
Sasitharan has championed the cause of families of the disappeared after her own husband and LTTE member Elilan went missing after he surrendered in May 2009. She gave evidence before the LLRC to this effect. Sasitharan recently met with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay during her visit to the north during her fact finding mission.

The RajaPassa government is shooting itself in the foot by letting incidents like this to take place…the world is watching and its the GOSL who is getting egg on its face. Every man and woman of voting age in the North who lost a loved one due to SL army artilary or had a loved one vanish after they surrendered to the armed forces, is not going to vote for the UPFA. So this election violence is futile. RajaPassas best bet is to try to bribe or intimidated the PC members into crossing over after they win on the 21st.

This is an act of state terrorism by the Govenment of Sri lanka.
From 1974 to 1983 the GOSL, it’s armed foces and police comited very much more acts of terrorism, compared to the Tamil armed groups. Many sinhalese in Sri lanka are aware of this fact. But some of them are in denial.
others know this fact, but lie through their teeth. Just like how they lie through their teeth, when asked if the GOSL comited war crimes and killed around 40 thousand Tamil civilians in 2009.

The decision Of Mrs Ananthy Sasitharan is commendable.
Here lies the determination and the will of the Tamil people.
Do we wonder why such aspiring candidates do not want to take the UPFA
ticket in the north ?
If the government did their job right – in todays time after the war ended and the government applauding themselves that they took the Tamils out of the LTTE clucthes and the pre election scenario unfolding it does not support this theory.
Further why is the army out running amock? These are the WAR HEROS who were supposed to have brought Peace to the north.
We have been told repeatedly that this goernment has brought PEACE to the Tamils.
