Justice C V Wigneswaran who has been appointed Chief Minister of the Northern Province by the Governor of the Northern Province will take his oaths as Chief Minister before President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees at 9.30am on Monday the 7th of October 2013.
“This decision is in consonance with the commitment of the Tamil National Alliance to ensure that the Tamil People are able to live in security, safeguarding their self respect and dignity, fulfilling their legitimate political, economic, social and cultural aspirations within the framework of a united and undivided country, as overwhelmingly demonstrated in their electoral verdict. Why don’t you give some example other than Rajaratnam. What % of Tamils overseas have been convicted? The thing with fellas like you is to find the few instances of criminal behavor and then extrapolate it to the whole community.
By the way what Rajaratnam did (insider trading) is small peaches compared to how American big banks and insurance companies bailed themselves out with taxpayer money. US members of Congress also engage in Insider Trading.

The decision that Wigneswaran should take oaths as NP Chief Minister before President Rajapakse was made not by Sampanthan or by TNA but by the foreign diplomats(meaning US Ambassador, Indian High Commissioner and other Western envoys based in Colombo), says PLOTE Leader Sitharthan. In an interview to BBC Tamil Service he said that though he personally did not like the idea, Sampanthan convinced him and other TNA constituent party leaders that they should agree to this arrangement as this was what the Western envoys wanted the TNA to do so that TNA will be seen as not confrontational.
It appears when Sambanthan floated this idea at a TNA meeting all the other TNA constituent party leaders opposed it. However Sampanthan persisted and when he met the President he had agreed to the arrangement. Sampanthan was backed by Sumanthiran. Sampanthan had always imposed his will on the alliance leaders and always had his way. When he wanted to propose Wigneswaran as TNA’s Chief Minister candidate the move was opposed by other leaders who put forward Mavai Sanathirajah. In the end he had his way and got Wigneswaran nominated. When TNA was asked to nominate the Eastern Province Opposition leader he got his man Thandayuthapani, who was a political novice from Trincomalee, nominated for that post even though there were other senior EP Provincial Councillors like Thurairajasingham and Thurairetnam. Earlier after the Parliamentary Election, he acted on his own in nominating Sumanathiran, another political novice and an unknown quantity from Colombo, to the National List MP position even though there were other senior Party men in Jaffna. There is no inner party democracy either in TNA or in other Tamil parties. Tamil Party leaders have always been dictators.
PLOTE leader Sitharthan’s statement that TNA leader Sampanthan was dictated to by the envoys of western countries shows that TNA is a puppet in the hands of these western interests and India. TNA leaders are not independent.Sampanthan and other TNA MPs were the puppets of LTTE and they have now become the puppets of the US, India and other western countries. None of the other Tamil party leaders are independent. They are dictated to by others. If Sampanthan is dictated to by US and India, Douglas Devananda and Pillaiyan are dictated to by Mahinda Rajapakse and his brothers. The only independent leader in the recent political history of Tamils is LTTE leader Velupillai Pirapaharan.
LTTE diehards and the other Tamil nationalists are now fuming over this wholesale treachery by Sampanthan. The pro-LTTE media have launched a fierce attack on Sampanthan and are calling him a traitor. That gutless man Mavai Senathirajah has reportedly gone to India in order to avoid attending the oath taking ceremony at Temple Trees. They refer to Sampanthan as “Singakodi Sampanthan”(Lion Flag Sampanthan) for holding aloft Sri Lanka’s national flag at a May Day rally in the company of UNP leader Rani Wickremasinghe. Sampanthan, Sumanthiran and now Wigneswaran have become Tamil traitors in the eyes of these pro-LTTE Tamils.
The ever present internecine war among the Tamils is on again. In the sixties and seventies it was between Tamil Congress and Federal Party. Then it was between LTTE and other armed Tamil Groups. Now it is going to be between Sampanthan clique (consisting Sumanthiran, Saravanapavan and now Wigneswaran) and the purist group consisting of pro-LTTE elements and Federal Party old guards like Mavai.

You have written paragraph after paragraph about the pro-LTTE Tamils! Who are these people? What’s their destiny? How are they going to reach their destiny? Are these the people who bring the disgusting flags of guns and bullets to discredit the legitimate demonstrations of the main stream Tamils in the western capitals? If they believe only in violence why are they jumping up and down in London, Swiss and Toronto? Who is stopping them to go to Vanni tomorrow and resume armed resistance?
I think you are an educated person and you must understand there is no room for armed resistance or the LTTE way of conducting business at present.
Political and diplomatic manoeuvre is only option for the Tamils now. I am not a great fan of Sampanthan but his current formula is working extremely well. I think Tamils should be solidly behind Sampanthan and TNA for the current tenure of the NPC. We have no other option.
