TNA’s Two Bonus Seats: To A Muslim And To A Woman And Not To Anandasangari

The Tamil National Alliance that won a historic mandate in Saturday’s provincial poll is mulling granting its two bonus seats on the Council to one of its unsuccessful Muslim candidates from Mannar and a female nominee, bypassing TULF Leader Anandasangaree, Colombo Telegraph learns.

V. Anandasangaree

It is reported that V. Anandasangaree who had unsuccessfully contested the elections from Kilinochchi where he was once MP, has sent feelers to the TNA about the option of entering the council on a bonus seat.

However it is unlikely the Tamil veteran politician will be successful in that endeavour, sources say.

“Other reports say that there is now a tussle for the 4 ministerships. The Health portfolio, it seems decided, will go to Dr. Sathiamoorthy who was elected from Vavuniya. Others hope to be appointed to one of the nominated seats and from that to the ministership. However some have offered the opinion that only those who contested and failed could be so appointed while others point to there being no such restriction for central ministerships. It should be a simple matter to resolve and one wonders if these are excuses to stall aspirants and buy time.” a TNA source told Colombo Telegraph.

Ananthi Sasitharan who obtained the second highest preferential vote, should be a minister as she has the contacts, trust of, and information about, the thousands of war widows, whose future should be an important item for consideration by the newly elected council.
There are widows whose husbands died in the war,and “widows” whose husbands “disappeared” after arrest at the end of the war.

Anandasangari is a doddering dodo, who epitomizes the worst patriachal and dictatorial tendencies of Sri Lanka’s rotten political culture.. TNA should definitely give the 2 seats to women or a Muslim..
Sangari has no party following (he has killed the TULF and cannot work with anyone, and will not let younger more capable and energetic people or women take over although he is dead in the water), and refuses to let go. Like Ranil Wickramasinghe he gets rid of all the bright next generation because he fear more capable younger people taking over. He is shameless and that is why he did not get voted in..
Sangaree suffers from the Prabakaran and Ranil Wickramasinghe and dead leftist syndrome – ruler of party for life, king for life! There should be term limits for all political party leaders – to reform Sri lanka’s rotton political culture and ensure the women and youth are given a chance.

I remember Anandasangari as a broadly smiling teenager who was all smiles and no wonder he became a politician.

Now see how he looks pathetic: Why all these humiliations, retire gracefully and keep smiling as you did as a youth?

It is very commendable that the young Muslim candidate from Mannar is considered for one of the bonus seats. The Organization he belongs to has many progressive and educated persons who will be an asset in future Tamil- Muslim relationship and he could also represent the Jaffna Muslim brothers. It will also help to control the rowdy element in the guise of a Minister in Mannar. As far as the Ministers are cocerned, Ananthi for Women,Children and Humanitarian Affairs, Mr.Sivagnanam, a Chartered Secretary and a former Commissioner of the Jaffna Municipality for over a decade should be an appropriate candidate for Finance and local Government Bodies, the doctor from Vavuniya is an appropriate person for health and the Retired Education Director from Mullaitheevu should fill in the Education and Sports slot. Justice(Retd.) Wigneswaran as the Chief Minister can look after Justice,Law and Order(Police)and Land whilst any other aspirant who has polled a fair amount of votes but may be trouble maker in the future may be made the Speaker like making the troublesome boy as the Monitor of the class. If not Arnold the Lawyer from Gurunagar should be a good candidate for the post of Speaker. If necessary Health,Education,Environment and sports can go to the same person i.e. the Doctor or the Educationist.

      Radish S,

It is not your place to tell Hon Wigneswaran what to do. Hon Wigneswaran, will soon learn the cardinal truth about politics, you can’t satisfy any person leave alone all. No matter who is appointed to the bonus seats he is going to leave many other aspirants disappointed, unhappy and wanting to upset the apple cart. His greatest problem will be dealing with his own people rather than the bogeyman South.

BBS Rep with what authority are you subscribing your views, after reprimanding Radish S? Why do not you mind your own F….g Business and stick your pea brain to BBS issues rather than of the Country.

You are hoping and praying that MR will wrest the NPC out of the hands of the TNA. Wait and see what will happen to MR next year and you ‘Katu kana Ballo’ will have to make an exit with your tail between your legs.

You have no right to tell someone what to say or what not to say. It is his right to say what he feels. That is what Mr.Wigneshwaran had done. He had spoken against Tamil Nadu all along. Tamil Nadu Wanted the centre not to attend the CHOGM in Sri Lanka whereas Mr. Wigneshwaran said that India should attend. Who is right and who is wrong. After winning the elections,Mr.Wigneshwaran had said that he had to work with the government. Both views by Vigneshwaran are contradictory to the Tamil People’s views mostly. The Tamil parties are in the habit of releasing manifestos and and comments before the media without consulting the Tamil people. There should be a referendum for the Tamil people to decide their fate as suggested by Mr.Karunanithi the leader of the DMK in Tamil Nadu.

Sellam, You are wrong, i listened to his interview myself, Mr.Vigneswaran said, India can attend the commonwealth and pressurize GoSL to empower the province, or they can alternatively not attend and show their protest for diluting 13A. Also one cannot go along with hindhu interview as he immediately denied of quoting anything against Tamilnadu. And In fact I read the interview there was nothing of that sort.

A very good idea I do hope this will be carried out. This apart from politics is the beginning of good governance ie. appointing the right person for the right job unlike in the south where political idiots are appointed to positions they have no clue about.

In appointing a Muslim and a female will show inclusiveness not separatism and will keep that thug at bay.

Way to go TNA show us in the south how a job needs to be done. Good luck

Anandasangaree lost the support of the people long time ago when he started writing silly pleading letters to Rajapaksa making himself a fool. He has been rejected by the people so he doesn’t deserve a seat.

    • 0
      0

He also wrote silly pleading letters to Prabhakaran, asking “Thambi” to do that or this. But when he was younger he had guts to stand against tiger dicta that Mr. sampanthan could not muster.

He has been humiliated not only by the Eelam people totally rejecting him and any one who was on his band wagon ( like Mr.Sangari)but the mere fact he was forced to call the elction. I am sure you have a brain and can work it out for yourself
Just listen to what Mr.Chithamparam has said and it is crystal clear the sign of things to come. Wake up buddy I know it is hard to take but take it for your and your families sake. No harm done so be man enough

Totally agree with you TNA only won the PC and not the National Election. But if you read the 13th amendment under which PCs were created they have enough powers to govern themselves. No one is asking for more. Just because the rest of the PCs in Sri Lanka are sucking up to the regime and have not used all the powers they have, it does not mean Northern PC has to follow them. Northern PC can lead the way for the other PCs to follow them. But only within a United Sri Lanka. 13th amendment is part of our constitution.

If his own Kilinochchi has rejected him and that too in a PC, the message is clear to this simple man he is a has-been in Tamil politics
of the day. It may be best for him to retire to a life of ease in Toronto – where his lawyer-son attempts to get into Canadian
politics. He can look forward to the talkative company of former MP Eelaventhan there – to while away the time.

“budget for the NPC (MONEY)….” That’s exactly what most commentators are hinting about saying asking separate state. The reality is anything that flows there would be “taxed” like in Malaysia where the Chinese have to pay 5% but here they also want a Sinhalese to be in that group like the Chinese do.He has a pretty big job because the army is doing this and more.

      No Perera,

It is pay back time (from MR, Gotha and all the other crooks) from the money you all looted. So dont talk rubbish .

We the Diaspora have been helping the War Widows, the rape victims and the orphans up to now. It is time you pay back what is ours. By the way do you know Douglas & Gotha are Directors of the Biggest Loot Company in Sri Lanka. I am not sure if you have ever been to Colombo and if you have you would have seen the White House Gotha owns which is worth2.5 Billion and where do you think he got the money from. Just guess.

Then why are some women having to sell their bodies to keep the home fires burning for their children.

You stupid they are forced to do it because of the situation they find themselves through no fault of their own ( created by your masters ). It is simple economics. If you had sister who is forced to sell her body you wouldn’t be asking this silly question.

You have now identified yourself and I had to force out of you. I don’t have to account for someone who does not have the interest of the Tamils at heart.

The name of the messenger might be Tamil but the message is Sinhalese. You may be sympathetic to their cause and these days it has become a fashion for Tamil bashing Sinhalese to assume Tamil Names.

Just because you ask for details I am not obliged to give it to you and ( We are not doing it to please you) if that was the case I have to divulge it to 20 million Sri Lankans and do you expect me to provide it. NO MATE.

You could be one of the following and how do I know that you are not. Have you heard of verification checks before you pass confidential information. You probable don’t understand. If I can verify who you are I will happy to send it to you.

kali, diaspora gave lavishly to the LTTE and no returns at all for it because it went up in a puff in nanthikadal, but from what i heard nothing much being given for the humanitarian needs after the war for which the diaspora also must take some responsibility.

As for my identity which you sherlock kali has found out,yes i have to admit now,i am a homosapien.I have kept it hidden for so long now i feel much better to get it off my chest.I don’t know whether sinhalese also fall into that category, but if you want to call me a sinhalese,i am more than happy to accept it,or if you want to i don’t mind if you call me a tamil or a muslim.

kali, can you tell me how much you have personally donated to the humanitarian needs of the tamils after the war.Comparing yours and mine we can then see who has had the tamils interest at heart more. For this information too i hope you don’t come out with that jewel”Have you heard of verification checks before you pass confidential information.”Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha

What i don’t like to see is one human being treating another badly. Then i get annoyed and depending on the degree of abuse even very angry sometimes. At the moment i’am deeply pained by what is happening in syria, especially to the kids and quite flabbergasted that the world has done nothing so far.

By End of the War Sarath Fonseka gave MR a 70 Kilo sacks full of our people’s Gold Jewelleries. Plus the looted money from the bank in Vanni, Vehicles as scrap iron, Sand exported to Maldives, Teak trees planted by LTTE chopped and exported to south. Furniture made from the teak were exported, Diaspora had been sending money and medical equipment’s since 1990’s for charities in the Northern and Eastern provinces were used by the government. Equipment’s impounded at the port, heavy demurrage were charged ultimately the Ministry of Health hands it to hospitals in the South The list on loots, goes on and on. As Donald said it is pay back time. Mr 10%, and MR,GR, Namel should return these loots. An Independent International Investigation into this essential, to claw back these loot. The Southerners do not know what these Bandits have done and have fooled their own people.

Dear BBS rep, Don’t worry Hon.Justice (Rtd) Wigneswaran will lend his ears to my friendly suggestion as I was his first Junior.I know his capabilities and am sure the NPC under his leadership with not less than six graduates and many Professionals(at least two Doctors one from Mannar and one from Vavunia, two Lawyers one from Chavakachcheri and one from Gurunagar and a Chartered Secretary from Jaffna and one Rtd. Asst. Director of education and there may be more Professionals not known to me)will set an example at least in the field of clean and efficient administration, even if not in the field politics!

That Chartered Secretary guy you say so much about, was a confidant of Late Mayor of Jaffna Mr.Alfred Thuraiappa and was involved with the running of the Jaffna Co-operative establishment in the mid to late seventies. There were then many allegations of false accounting and shortages during that period. But no investigation took place and matters got hushed up when the then PM during the JR administration got involved.

In the mean time if I remember right this guy became a victim of one of the so called gun toting Tamil liberation gangs and was in hospital treated for bullet wounds. How he managed to become the Jaffna Municipal commissioner later on is a mystery.

After some time he ingratiated himself with the LTTE and graduated into the TNA.He has always been a survivor and I am not surprised that he had an eye on the post of CM which fortunately due to the political sagacity of TNA leader Sambanthan is now in the more capable hands of ex-judge CVW which good for the people of the NP and the country at large..

        Correction
It was the Jaffna Multi-purpose Co-operative establishment not the Jaffna Co-operative Ltd.I understand that the latter is now defunct following repeated attacks by Tamil gun toting gangs and the effects of the war including the Lankan security forces.

Accommodating Muslim and a woman is a necessity and helpful to bring back the relationship between Tamils and Muslims and improving women rights. Tamil speaking communities should unite to work together in order to resist the oppression from those majority community groups. In the past TNA had a sad experience by incorporating a majority community representative in the East. Similarly, the NEPC council had the same experience by incorporating Dr. DJ. It is the fundamental right of the person to join or leave his position. But it is not moral or ethical to join this group and them move into another group by giving excuses. I am sure that the Muslim member understands very well the objectives and aims of TNA administration.

“It is time to show true patriotism and collect money from Diaspora and give it to the NPC”

First of all, Sri Lankan state would not allow Provincial Councils to directly deal with foreign financial institutions, governments or other sources of support. It clearly says every cents should go through it treasury.

Secondly, once the financial support is deposited in treasury accounts who knows how this is spent, where its spent. The benefits does not reach where its meant in the first place.

Thirdly knowing the bureaucracy (manned by stupid asses) they could use all kind of delaying tactics to prevent funds reaching the targeted councils and its beneficiaries , which means the financial resources could not be used in a timely and effective manner.

Fourthly who will have the powers to release the funds and approve projects without charging 10 to 20%?

You are not following the news and for your information:

Mr.Chithamparam in his speech yesterday has contradicted what you have said above.

        kali

Being a stupid Tamil you can’t see beyond your nose. You rage 24/7/52 hence you miss the message.

        Check 13th amendment for details.

“Either he is an idiot and don’t know what he is talking about or you are day dreaming and it is the latter”

You are wrong on both, Chithamparam is flexing his Hindian muscle. Thats all to it.

Sri Lankan government wanted Indian money directly channel through the state coffer middle of Indian’s 50,000 house building project which India wanted to be independent of Sri Lankan state interference. Sri Lanka stopped all projects for about 9 months.

Basil was summoned to Delhi. He obliged and went into a room, Hindians shut the doors and beat the cr.. out of him. Within a week or so Indians restarted the project and have been directly dealing with beneficiaries.

This is what happens if the little people of this island don’t listen to your mother India. Your Thalaivaru didn’t listen, hence Sri Lanka beat the cr.. out of him while Hindians were lurking in the shadows, pointing where to hit him.

          Foreign Vedda,

Chithamparam might be flexing his Indian Muscles. But it is the Sinhalese Tail which is wagging and Basils body flying around.
He is your master and you are his servant. It is as simple as that.

          1) Basil when he was summoned could have said no and MR could have refused to hold Elections.
          2) Weak man Peiris didn’t have to go to Delhi to invite the master but he did.

One is flexing the muscle and the other one is wagging the tail showing loyalty.

              Fopreign Vedda,

Do your Home work first before you open your mouth. Dont quote bits an pieces from 13th Amendment.
I have always said that 13th Amendment falls short of Tamil aspirations and needs. It is just a starting point. We will get what we want in the end with International Help. I am not sure if you have heard the news from UN but let me tell you MR has been given until March 2014 to address the issues.
A lot of things coincide during that period.

1)Change of Government in mother India.
2)Next Round of UN decision on Sinhala Lanka.

And for your information as you seem to be an amateur in this field let me tell you.

Investment in to Tamil Nadu in India does not go through Delhi. It flows directly in to Tamil Nadu. We in the North are not there yet but India included have demanded that from MR as the minimum. If you have any brains and are clever ( which I hope you are) you can work it out.

By the way I have just unmasked a Sinhalese Racist hiding under the name SHANKAR and do you know any. If you do do us a favour and just report it to the Board of Censors.

urgent appeal for donations-generous contributions are required for srilankan tamil asylum seeker kali for wellbeing and care in lunatic asylum for the rest of her life.

              kali-stani

You are confusing yourself with what the rules on FDI in India and your perception of it.

Sri Lanka is not India. Hence it has its own weird idea of devolution, decentralisation and development.

“We will get what we want in the end with International Help.”

What you want to get with newly discovered International help? Why didn’t you get International help to protect your innocent people who were mercilessly killed by your Sinhala/Buddhist brethren?

I am reliably told the International Community was in existence in 2009 too.

The diaspora does not need advise. If allowed by MR there will be free flow of cash directly to the north.Thats for sure.

Mr Anandasangaree should understand that his days in the political scene is over.He should not aspire to get into the Council when he had been thrown out standing for NPC election.
Wrong decision to have stood for the NPC election to be thrown out -rejected.

As someone said Anandasangaree should not have been given nomination in the first place. But being the leaders of the TULF, the TNA selection board had no choice. Anandasangaree is his own worst enemy. At the height of war, he urged Mahinda Rajapaksa not to relent till the LTTE is finished off. He went to South Africa along with Douglas Devananda to “sell” Sri Lanka to South Africans. He held on to TULF despite despite lack of support of the majority of the members. Mahinda Rajapaksa helped him in his litigation in the courts. The TULF had 2 properties in Jaffna. He sold them and pocketed the proceeds. As for allocating ministries, let those who aspire for the posts file an application with their bio-data to the Chief Minister. Then the CM can appoint Ministers on the basis of merit. The people’s expectations are high and members should not go after office.

If as Speculated and confirmed by CT ( who can doubt CT) that Mr.Sangari has been bypassed it will be a joy ( Anantham)for those who rejected him at the polls.
But in truth he dug his own grave by driving around in vehicles provided by MR which shows that any Tamil who associates with MR will bite the dust.
Although MR managed to rig 14% of the popular votes to save face he couldnt pull it off for poor Sangari.

But at least he can hope to be honoured by King MR in his New Year Honours List and he might get one of the following?

    1) Order of the Sri Lankan Empire ( Courtesey of MR)
    2) Member of the Sri Lankan Empire ( Again as above)
    3) Or a Sri Lankan Knighthood
    4) Even better a Member of the Sri Lakan Criminal Board ( Bestowed by MR)

Anandasangari, it is time to retire and allow room for younger generations.

Ananda Sangari deserves it. When LTTE was active he was with the Government living in Colombo enjoying the perks such as free Government Security etc.

When the LTTE was defeated he immediately swiched his allegiance to LTTE proxy TNA with the idea of getting a post of MP. Even TNA is aware of the double game of Sangari who has proved that he is a selfish hypocrite. This sort of people should never be given a place in Public life which is detrimental to the well being of the public.

Perfect what? lol! give both seats to muslims? No Sir, not to the two faced buggers who stab people’s back and change sides like how they change their hats. You Lankan liar must be one of those porkies. Hahaha your a funny guy aren’t you?

I mean to real Muslims. What was done to them by the so called freedom fighters was wrong a crime and a crime against humanity. Under no circumstance this should have been done. If race can do it to the people who lived within them what right they have to ask for self determination. To rectify all this as brave honest men TNA should give both seats to Muslims and give them reasonable ministry post. And say sorry sorry sorry. A genuine one not the Sinhalese sorry ok.

I really believe the country’s situation will get ugly. The Rajapaksa regime has less qualified and inexperienced ministers in the key positions. And the TNA’s preference vote winners do not have experience either. What’s Ananthy’s qualifications? Red flags are popping in both sides. Thirty years ago China wasn’t even in the picture, but it is now. The situation has got complicated, but the leaders are not smarter than the previous leaders. Therefore, people will continue to suffer. Election does not mean anything, people had elections in the 1970’s and the 1980’s, still the country fell into a brutal civil war. India is happy with the inexperienced TNA leaders, and China is happy with foolish Rajapaksa brothers. It seems the people are cursed, because they don’t give a damn to the country’s intellectuals. Blessed people value the knowledge and appreciate the people who have the knowledge; but the cursed people who disregard the knowledge, and ignore the people who have knowledge.

I sincerly hope that TNA don’t give any seats to Muslims. Give a seat to a jew if there is one but not to a Muslim.

Piss off to israel if you love jews so much.We tamils consider the muslims a part of our dravidian family.Go to tamilnadu and see how the muslims are living there without any problems unlike in aryan north.

Muslims were not decedents of Tobacco, Tea, Toddy, Tar slaves. Note the T. We came here to do business. It is a disgrace for Muslims to accept a seat from TNA slaves.

some muslims may have come from arabia to trade, but as you can see arabia is far away so they would not have come in droves. The sufis from arabia are the ones who converted the hindus in srilanka and tamilnadu and indonesia to muslims and they embraced islam because of the rigid hindu caste system stupidly adopted by the dravidians from the north indian aryans. In islam everyone is equal and that is the main reason we lost our dravidians to islam. Our own fault.

As for you fart shima referring to TNA slaves, read about the jaffna kingdom. Also about rajaraja chola and rajendra chola.

      Misslims

“Give a seat to a jew if there is one but not to a Muslim.”

      Good idea.

The Tamils will keep the seat to themselves as they believe they too are Jews, or junior Jews.

      Tamilians are like Palestinians.

Jews are like Chingalams. Both got independence in 1948. Both are military partners against Tamil-Palestinians. Both genocide their 25% minoraties. Both are strange nations in the background they are in. Both think they are chosen people. Both have military men at the UN.

TNA should give that seat to a upcountry Tamil.

According to latest news the other seat is not going to women. Instead it is going to be shared between 5 on a rotational basis. To aid in that effort the gutless men engaged in a whisper campaign against the lady candidate from Mullaitheevu. Give the number of male chauvinists in the TNA I am not surprised with this shameful outcome. These male chauvinist pigs are only happy to seek the votes of the women and sing praises of women but have hardly changed. Despite the fact North and East now has a significant amount of women-headed households and many more have suffered sexual and other abuses during the war we have a party which claim to represent the wishes of the people still chooses to live in the stone age.

Come the next Parlimentary elections these male chauvinist pigs will be taught an unforgettable lesson. In Ananthi Sasitharan has any guts she should resign and if possible function as in independent.

I agree with you sundar. She got 87000 votes and wiggie got 132000.She should have become his deputy. These guys talk a lot about discrimination by the sinhalese and discriminate their own mothers, sisters, wives and daughters. Now mad kali will say”gotcha, proves you are a sinhalese.”

When ever any tamil points out a fault, for kali it is a sinhalese racist masquerading as a tamil, just like for the LTTE anyone pointing out a fault was a tamil traitor. If they had listened and got rid of those faults they would not have ended up the way they did.

I made a small error here when i mentioned about the 87000 votes. It was in reference to ananthi who went through hell before the election and now the male chauvinists are saying she should not be a minister because she has no political experience. What political experience has wiggie got? When these northern fellows think of women they think of only the cooking experience and the tasty curries that they eat. They don’t think that they too have brains and ability because of their culture. We are 50 years behind the west.Sad to see the tamils in the north are following the sinhalese patriachichal society whereas dravidians are supposed to be a matrichical society always treating women with respect and dignity and giving them the positions they deserve. No chance for jayalaitha if she had been born in the north srilanka.Born to cook and clean for life.

I agree with sundar that the last bonus seat should be given to that woman candidate instead of this stupid decision to rotate it between 5 male chauvinistic pigs. They are going to do wonders it seems, much much more than that woman.

Shanker, I have asked the following question to the TNA contacts I am dealing with. Can they name the males who are currently being considered with ministerial experience let alone relevant experience working within the government machinery?. The reality is most of these people have little or no experience.

Now as a person who currently provides policy development advise in the West I can tell you this so called ministerial experience is not a metric we can rigidly apply in cases where the party has a many fresh faces or has spent a significant amount of time in the opposition. Instead we focus on surrounding the incoming freshers with those who have experience in key areas. This way the minister is put through a rigorous learning curve and within a short period they become capable functionaries in their own right. What we focus when selecting a potential minister is their soft skills which are absolutely vital to carry out the complex task of policy development and implementation. Bullies don’t make good ministers so are weaklings.

Now if TNA wish to apply the metric of ministerial experience to a women I am insisting that they do so across the board and watch what happens. If we chose to pick people on the basis of constituent party interests and not on merit and policy focus of the incoming government then I have to say we are off to a very bad start.

Sach, I have to agree. But with on our side what I see is this. The older generation is clearly living in the stone ages. Whenever I press the case for women those who are 20, 30, 40 years older than my age group, are the ones who are sticking to the traditional view of the women. In fact just yesterday I was told by a gentleman “Son. You can’t ask for seats on the basis of gender etc otherwise people with disability might ask one”. For that I said so what?. If people are asking for seats on the basis of gender or disability that means these groups feel that their interests are not well represented by the existing democratic/institutional framework. And especially in the Postwar context where the NPC’s priorities are going to be driven by the postwar recovery, rebuilding and reconstruction issues women representation is critical as in parts of North the gender balance has clearly tilted towards women. In fact in a recent Sunday Times Interview a Jaffna Uni Professor said most students in his class were female. When pressed he went further said more than 80% female in most classes. Yet we have only 1 women equating to 3.3% representation in Year 2013!. Shame shame.
