To Believers In God, I may (Politely) Say: “God May Be There But He Is Clearly Indifferent; If Indifferent, He Is Irrelevant”

By Shyamon Jayasinghe

Shyamon Jayasinghe

“Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear” ~ Thomas Jefferson

Embarrassment

To Believers in God, I may politely say “God may be there but He is clearly indifferent; if indifferent He is irrelevant.”

Every-time a large scale human catastrophe occurs religious leaders are silent. The Archbishop of Canterbury reportedly admitted he was “embarrassed,” when Tsunami took place  two decades ago.

The Covid Pandemic

Now, comes Covid-19 and what have religious leaders to say? One of the worst pandemics – if not the worst – the world has seen. They are dumbstruck; yet, they faintheartedly ask their flock to keep praying for relief. They know it doesn’t work but they keep feverishly muttering this ridiculous counsel.

All over the world, Covid-19 is devouring people:making them thoroughly sick, making them gulp for breath without oxygen and making them-kids and adults, the sick and the infirm – fall dead like fireflies who hit the light in the night. In my lifetime, I’ve never seen a catastrophe of this sort.

These days, India is on the spotlight but other countries aren’t any far from India. At 4.40pm yesterday India  reached the milestone passing 300,000 deaths the third country to reach that many fatalities behind the United States and Brazil. Health officials recorded another 222,315 new cases in the previous 24 hours.

No oxygen, no beds, a tired health staff and so on. It is a common scene in India to see someone in a scooter rushing to a hospital with an oxygen cylinder to save a family member from sure death. Crematoriums work night and day. Families having lost work for months find it hard to find the wherewithal to cremate their dead.

I mention India because it is on the spot today and it is closer home. However, every Covid case is close home nowadays.

“Oh MY GOD!”

“Oh my God!” is a proper way to express a gruelling cry because we have been told for generations of human civilisation that God has created us all and that God is omnipotent and that He is all compassionate.

On the other hand God, assuming he exists, is not competent and all powerful  for sure and not compassionate. If neither, then there isn’t such a heavenly being. That’s the logic.

The priests may now take to the argument that God created the world and all of us but washed his hands after that.

Both presuppositions of God nullify that very concept. The second one shows an indifferent God. Hence, of no use.

Why Pray?

Why pray then? Millions gather in churches and pray. Muslims pray five times a day as a community kissing the flow and pushing their backs upwards.

If there is a compassionate and all powerful God as these religionists and other lesser brands accept why on earth do we have to pray to Him to relieve us out of this mass tragedy? He should do it because he is said to be the “all powerful and all compassionate One.” Does he derive a vicarious pleasure to see his creation fall on their knees, cry and wail asking for mercy before He decides to help out? The point is there isn’t any sign of His helping out.

Time to Bring in Some Miracles

And, besides, where are the miracles that were created in His name in ancient times? Multiplying loaves of bread raising the dead to life? Even Buddhists – the plainly more rational of the whole lot of religionists – claim the power of ‘Iddi Balaya,’ or ability to overcome physics and fly in the air after the power of meditation. It is revealing that we have never seen such miracles being performed after that. There are various individual claims about having been “healed,” after prayer to God. But these are by nature unverifiable and unfalsifiable and so are best attributed to nature’s ways of which one is ignorant at the moment.

Obstruction

As a matter of fact religions have been obstructing science’s ways of bringing Covid-19 under control. We saw how recently during the Mehla festival thousands of Indians jumped to the Ganges for blessings. They all died of Covid-19 due to intensified physical contact etc. Corpses were drawn ashore by nets. Yet, give the Indians another life and they would not change.

This is the trouble about religion. It is faith – based which means a follower has to suspend reasoning and just believe. I went recently to a Christian school in Melbourne. As I entered there was the slogan: “BELIEVE!” Just believe what is there in the Holy Books (Bible or Quran) because its the truth. How is it the truth? Because it is the truth. A cyclical trap!

Finding Truth

Richard Dawkins has stated  that truth can only be arrived at after proper investigation. The name for “proper investigation“ is the scientific method of search where we test a claim or hypothesis by trying to verify it with evidence.” Karl Popper pointed out that one must have the possibility of at least falsifying such a claim  if it were to be regarded as a meaningful claim.

In his best seller, The God Delusion,” Dawkins points out that one can try to arrive at truths only by a scientific investigation. He says, Faith is not a source of truth; it is the very abnegation of truth. Hence, Dawkins says religion and its Holy Books cannot be any source of knowledge. The knowledge about the universe and life in it is the province of scientific investigation, Dawkins says; it isn’t a topic for religion.

In the days of yore, under an absence of scientific thinking religious priests and Mullahs claimed to have had the answers to all these questions which today constitute the jurisdiction of science. These claims were supposed to have been based on their specific Holy Book. The story of the concoction of such Holy Books is another question, which need not be dealt with here.

As a result just look at the ridiculous “truths” that were stated by these holy people. Take just one  and that is the age of the earth. According to the Bible this earth is only 6000 years old. Scientific fossil and other evidence now teaches us that the earth is over billions of years old. The same with the planets and galaxies.

With the birth of the Renaissance and science in the 14th to 17th centuries, gradually scientists uprooted priesthood authority when it came to factual statements about the universe and man.

Conclusion

After Charles Darwin over 200 years ago God should have gone into hiding. Yet, He lives and pretends. But His pretences of power and compassion are exposed by his total impotence and indifference against the kind of pandemic human suffering we witness today.

Correction not kissing the flow we keep our fore head on the ground on direction on Mosque in Mecca

People were breathing free oxygen no thanks to god then now all are buying oxygen to breathe

Science is only discoveries done from what god have created and science does not disprove god

      Dear Mr Writer,

Looking at the manner, why real high criminals be given this much of power, makes me feel – that GOD IS REALLY INDIFFERENT in today ‘s context in GOSL.
      .
If a GOD is existing, how come Mahind Rajapakshe stay scot free not being punished for his all numerous high crimes yet today
      .
If a GOD is existing, how can GOTABAYA aka Nandasini (the joker of the day) became the PRESIDENT for 22.5 millions in SL

If a GOD is existing, how can they keep MUSLIM POLITICIANS in remand again and again ?
      .
iF A GOD is existing, how come NAMAL Baby/Yothitha Dog be scot free for Wasim Thadjudeen’s misterious murder (This murder was only compared with that of international Journalist JAMAL Khashoggi).
      .
If a GOD is existing, how come WIMLA BURUWANSE be alive yet today, he should long have been hung by his balls. All others like Gonthadipila and Jonsten have no right to stay alive. ::: If MAKANDURE MADHUSH, URUJUWA and THARAKA or the like should have been MURDERED by extra judicials killings… all those high men in POHOTTUWA have no right to stay alive. BASTA.

neither are your ways my ways,

and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Holy Bible-Isaiah 55:8-9)

Who the hell does this fellow god think he is. How very arrogant to say he is higher than us. Are we some type of two bit mutt incapable of higher thought? The bible is riddled with errors, omissions, and crafty alterations intended to deceive humanity and keep us all captives. It is time we woke up and stop paying attention to a two thousand year old book written by half wits anyway. His thoughts are bloody well our thoughts. Thoughts of how he has managed to fool us all and keep us downtrodden, fighting among ourselves killing each other whiel he takes devilish delight at the carnage. That is the real truth about all three Abrahamic religions. Thank you Shyamon for a wonderful article shedding light where there is a need for light. I am no aetheist. I just no longer trust the fellow called god anymore. Here is a teaser what is the correct translation of the Hebrew word for god “ELOHIM” in the book of Genesis. Answer “THE POWERFUL ONES” It is a plural word.

      Mr. Jayasinghe,
There is n point arguing whether God exists or not. The argument should be about what form he exists in. Is he Jehovah, Allah, Shiva, Baal, etc?
Science believes in evidence. So, let’s look at the world’s oil producers, sitting on oceans of oil. Nigeria and Venezuela have oil but aren’t rich. Saudi Arabia, Brunei, UAE, are all rich.
So we may scientifically deduce that at least Allah exists in some Muslim countries. So even he must be a local god like Kaliamma.

    Mr.SJ
………….The name for “proper investigation“ is the scientific method of search where we test a claim or hypothesis by trying to verify it with evidence………
You have left out a most important factor in scientific theory. Verification with evidence is not enough. The most important factors are that the theory has predictability and repeatability. It not a “one off” because “one offs” are the “Miracles” spoken about for “the believers”, never repeated or tested.
…. Even Buddhists – the plainly more rational of the whole lot of “religionists” ?? – claim the power of ‘Iddi Balaya,’ or ability to overcome physics and fly in the air after the power of meditation….
This is not Buddhist Philosophy. These are “stories or tales” brought in by those who have had a very basic “idea” only. Meditation does not give “extra powers” but only develops one’s mind to its full potential to glimpse reality and calm the mind to avoid all the temptations of the senses and evil thoughts.
It gives serenity and peace to one’s mind. Nothing more.

Life is an eternal continuation of God, even after death, with some rare instances of helpful intrusions from the Universe to prompt it along its eternal journey. This is irrespective of the 7 levels of placement life finds itself in (earthly rebirth being one).

It’s merely a fusion of Buddhism and Christianity, Soma.

Jesus himself said one must be born again of the Spirit. Judaism has reincarnation as one of it’s afterlife beliefs. And Jesus literally meant one must die to be born again into the Spirit world of the Kingdom of God. The direct translation got lost through the ages and  nowadays, evengelical groups are taking a literal English translation of old Hebrew scripts and pouring water on people, chanting words to induce belief, and magically making them Born Again.

In Buddhism, one can be reborn in 7 different dimensions…..the earthly world being one.

But to be fair to Evangelicals, maybe their belief in baptism by the Holy Spirit places them in a better position to be reborn into the Kingdom of God.
After being baptised by the Holy Spirit through their own volition and by physical water, they must be going around feeling mighty good and holy, and that is what is needed to be reborn into the Heavenly Kingdom.

    Nietzsche’s complete statement is:

“God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it?”

    Take care.

One has to realise that God is also big business, like any other belief system in the form of fake syrups for Covid-19 made by a carpenter with blessings of Kali or miracle cures designed under cover of being a western qualified doctor in Sri Lanka or for that matter any other voodoo or witchcraft in lesser forms as opposed to massive institutions such as the Catholic church or Saudi-Arabian Islam. Belief systems are the fodder that keeps hope alive for the weak, as its easy to lean on what they believe is “mighty”.

A bigger lie than Religion is Astrology. Not one astrologer could predict the 2004 Tsunami and again they were taken by surprise by the COVID-19 pandemic. At the beginning of 2020, nearly all astrologers who made new year predictions declared that it would be a wonderful and beneficial year to mankind!

Listen to what Buddha said, the supreme intellect: “There is no unchanging, permanent self, soul or essence in living beings.” Buddha called that anattā, the doctrin of “non-self”. If we believe in Buddha and Buddhism, then there can be no life after death, no heaven and hell. This much is true, our bodies will die, rot, putrefy, mingle with the atmosphere. We will go into nothingness, nirvana. Those who preach otherwise only wish to make a fast buck in this life. Do not be fooled.

I understand that you are an atheist which is ok, but in the same way where others have to respect your beliefs, you have to respect their religious beliefs too.
Contrary to your criticism or disappointment of the world religions, I wish to state that Buddhism has a universal theory which explains everything, including how to overcome obstacles in your life.
In this sense, I wish to share an amazing YouTube video uploaded by Yathartha YouTube Channel regarding a Sinhala Buddhist way to prevent or cure the Coronavirus.
The speaker is a well known, devoted, Theravada Buddhist and Executive Electrical Engineer, Mr. Sisira Perera.

Sinhala Intellectuals constantly somersault to download their past on opposing politicians, weak sections and the God who is deaf, blind and dump. They knowingly defend the wrong and suppress the right. Then they call Buddha, Siva, Jesus and Allah for their side to witness, after blaming them all for their crookedness. Sinhala Buddhist Intellectuals believe Karma is an atomic arsenal in their possession to launch any time at their enemy, but hopes it to protect them for ever. But disappointingly they have outlived the testing period of their hypothesis. Now they all fear the drama is over. Politicians are trying to extend their lease by changing the names from UNP to SJB and SLFP to Slap Party. Sinhala Buddhist Intellectuals are confused if they have to hide or howl more loudly in defense. They can blame not them, but the god or the weak of the society, the fate or the Karma is heat is seeking weapon, looking for them.

It is easier to Blame the God whether he/she exists or not. In Hinduism there are lot of gods, both females and males Most of them are assigned with some responsibilities.> Most popular ones are Bramma ( Creation), Siva (Distruction), Pillaiyar, (CEO) Muruga, (Administration) Luxmi (Finance), Saraswathi, (Education) Krishna (Love).
Each individual has his/her own favourit god. Buddhists who rely on Lord Buddha for favours have not forgotten the religion to which Buddha belonged to. He never preached a new religion nor did he discard his Hindu Religion. That is perhaps the reason why in the buses/pansalas you find pictures of all Hindu Gods and in some busses Jesus Christ too. No discrimination. But no Muslim gods. Because they don’ believe in statues/ figures, except their business figures. When mass disaster occurs , those who believe in God/religion, says it is Gods wrath for the sins committed by humans. But animals too face disasters, but they do not commit sins. May be, because some associated with Humans in some way. They are brought up with affection and then killed for food. Jesus Christ was born without a father, but his mother too is worshiped. I am rather baffled by all this. I am wondering whether Tsunami and Covid19 is a creation of God or an accidental birth?

        Dear KV.
….Buddhists who rely on Lord Buddha for favours……
Are you sure you got that right ? Not real Buddhist Philosophy, which relies on SELF.
Yes many “Buddhists” (really Buddhist Hindus), rely on that thinking due to the mixing up with Hinduism over time. Relying on others for favours is the easy way, hence, the so called Buddhists have taken the course of “prayers” and asking for favours, as an easy way.

Dear KV, Baffled? Jesus Christ without earthly father is God’s overshadowing into Mary’s womb with Jesus, Lk.1,35 to form sinless sacrifice for sinful humanity. Mary is not to be worshipped. Wonder Covid 19 is a creation of God.? Now it’s exposed that it is a creation in a Wuhan laboratory by evil men, to form a biological weapon of warfare for China to become No.1 world power over US and Russia, called the Belt and Road Initiative. Belt is across land on ancient silk route to Europe and Road is over waterway of shipping lanes where Colombo Port also now sold out. High tech can create tsunamis from above. China on Mars, debris fell near SL and Maldives. Asteroid likeness also can be man made. But God warns his believing prophets. Google Tracey Cooke and Sid Roth 2020. Tracey saw in a dream in early 2020 where he went to Wuhan lab. and saw Covid 19 being created and other revelations too. Problem is who will believe, decree destruction in Jesus Name.

Millions of people have been killed in the name of god. Even Hitler said he was told by god to do what he did!

If you consider the male genitials, then yes, it is the source of life, together with the receptive female genitials. So in that sense it is god, and worthwhile of worship. It is the creator.

I am a non- believer and subscribe to the view of karl Marx that religion is the opium of the people, but…,
I observe that all living organisms other than humans do not worry about these mundane concepts like God and go on living and dying.

We do not know and we will never know. We must be humble enough to our limitations.

The humans gain all knowledge through their senses and senses have limitations and no scientific research will ever bridge the ever-expanding limits.

Conscious of these limitations let us lead a life in harmony with other living organism and the environment .

    Mr. Shyamon Jayasinghe,
Every part of you body should prove to you that you did not evolve but created. Please take some time to learn about your body. It could not have come from a Big Bang.
You wrote this article, to ridicule your creator. You thought and you wrote .How did you get your mind to think? From the Big bang?
How does a universe, which itself developed from nothing, impart into human strand of DNA enough specific information from nothing?
Writing about the human cell, Chandra Wickaramasinghe,
reminded his readers that the statistical probability of forming
even a single enzyme, the building block of the cell is,
    1 in 10^40,000.
The translation of that figure is that it would require more attempts
for the formation of one enzyme than there are atoms in the stars of all the
galaxies in the entire known universe.
Though a Buddhist , Dr.Wickramasinghe concedes this supernatural notion.
(Quoted by Norman Geisler, A F Brooks and Mark J Keosh in
“The Creator in the Courtroom (Melford ,Mich.,Mott Media, 1982)149)

      Dear Vijaya,
      ….Dr.Wickramasinghe CONCEDES this supernatural notion………
Not really – he only expresses HIS doubt and “concedes” only to keep it open.
      ….the statistical probability…..
In probability theory, you estimate only – no proof. But also if the probability of any occurrence is, (say for the exercise), 1 in 20, there is the likelihood of it happening even the first time or 5th time. Not necessarily 20th time.
So as long as there is a ”probability” of even 1 in infinity, one should not take the last position as the occurrence of that possibility, and ….(1 in 10^40,000)…. is still a possibility
Also consider that Chandra W and Fred H pushed for the Steady State Theory in the early ’80s, which is not in favour now. So anyone can have a view, but arguable, and later find disfavour.
Hence in that context, I accept your later suggestion :
…..If one wishes to question a religious point of view in relation to life,
the honest position that is justifiable to maintain, is one of agnosticism…….

Professor Chandra Wickramasinghe wrote an article. If you type “Dr .A.M.M.Sahabdeen and do a Google search, it is there under the titleThe Legacy of Dr. A.M.M. Sahabdeen (1926-2017) )

    He writes in one paragraph:
” I share with Dr. Sahabdeen an abhorrence of the modern tendency
to reject and denounce all religions and religious world-views as antiquated,
anti-scientific or anti-intellectual. This arrogant stance cannot to defended.
Such an attitude is rooted in the false premise that all aspects of the world around us
can be explained in purely mechanistic and reductionist terms.
My own research has shown that in at least one instance
such an assertion is demonstrably false.
This relates to the unsolved problem of the origin of life.
The concept of random shuffling of non-living molecules
leading to the origin of life from non-life,
an Aristotelean idea dating back to the 5th century BC,
remains in 2018 an unproved dogma of science,
    that is almost surely wrong.
If one wishes to question a religious point of view in relation to life
the honest position that is justifiable to maintain is one of agnosticism.

I read this in an article,
    written by one Jim Williams.
    What does an atheist believe?
He believes that the universe came into existence by itself.
So,he believes, there cannot be intelligent design.
    They explain this:
    ‘coming into existence by itself’
    by the formula:
MATTER + TIME + CHANCE = THE UNIVERSE

    From somewhere there was MATTER.
After a very, very long TIME ,
    this MATTER started to change.

    Simplicity
    by CHANCE brought forth complexity.

    Randomness produced order.

Furthermore for a some strange reason
inanimate matter brought forth organic matter.

After very many, many, years organic matter became so complex
that it became conscious of itself .

This system of thought has classically been called ATHEISM.

    According to the Bible, in
    Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

He created man in His image. Man has intelligence, emotions , conscience and a free will similar to God .
    Psalm 8
    1 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
    You have set your glory
    in the heavens.
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,
    the work of your fingers,
    the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?[

5 You have made the] a little lower than the angels
and crowned them] with glory and honor.
    6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their[g] feet:
    7 all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
8 the birds in the sky,

    9 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

All this talk of God and Science is meaningless. The tool the scientist uses to examine the World is his brain. He doesn’t know how this tool works yet he accepts all its conclusions!
    .
The Buddhist approach is to put all this aside and seek what we can actually know for ourselves. Consider the idea of the ‘I’. That which we call the ‘self’ is not something we are born with. In fact it takes roughly seven years to develop a stable sense of individuality.
    .
This sense of ‘self’ is not a secure thing. Perhaps it could be described as a dynamic process of patterns of mental and emotional activity. Attempting to find security by focussing on something that is inherently insecure is not sensible.
    .
Those who practise meditation know the experience of stillness and serenity that exists even when much of that activity that we think of as ‘me’ has quietened down. They discover that they don’t disappear just because the coarse level of thinking and emoting has ceased. There is still a sense of ‘knowing’. Surely focussing on this ‘knowing’ rather than arguing about God would be a wiser way to live.

      Dear Paul,
….He doesn’t know how this tool works yet he accepts all its conclusions!….
This is the norm. We drive a automatic gear car 0r go in a Boeing 747, but do not know how they work fully. We only reach the “conclusion” – the end of the ride.
      But “well said” on :
…The Buddhist approach is to put all this aside and seek what we can actually know for ourselves…..
Keep the past and future at arms length and live morally in the present.

    Psalm 19
    1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
    2 Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
    3 They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
4 Yet their voice[b] goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.
5 It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
6 It rises at one end of the heavens
    and makes its circuit to the other;
nothing is deprived of its warmth.

God’s Opinion of us humans is found in
Romans 1
18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

If you lack an ability to think for yourself, or are too lazy to do so, then quoting from a book that was patched together 400 years after the event, the so-called birth and death of the son of god. That book must contain nothing but speculation, gossip and the wild creativity of a few individuals. Also the superstitions, fears and phobias of those ancient dwellers. Over the years it was added to, refined, and still being improved. Give us a break.

The concept of God (the personal creator) dominates three religions (two the most popular) with one source. The spread of Christianity and Islam was more political than spiritual. To their credit, they helped the liberation of people in specific contexts. Yet the faiths are utterly male chauvinist (so much so that a feminist academic told me that God had to be a male to have made an utter mess of things).
    *
Outside the region of origin of these faiths, there are many faiths minimally obsessed with a god creator.
Orientals recognize varieties of supernatural beings (even called gods) but none dominating humanity.
We do not even bother to find why the God creator spared much of Africa, the Americas and Australia, until some centuries ago, any thought of His existence .
Polytheism has let gods coexist slightly more happily than their believers.
Hindu theories of creation are diverse, and Hindu polytheism has withstood the assault of the concept of Brahman, the ultimate being.
What is nice about polytheism is that it allows choice, even designer gods, very user friendly too, whom you could bribe and even scold for poor performance.

The Sikh faith is rather a hybrid of Islam and Hinduism.
What is commendable is despite proximity to the latter, it rejects caste. Also, it has sources in the Bakthi and Sufi traditions, with a warmer relationship with God than god-fearing systems.

    “Jainism and Buddhism reject God”
    .
The way I have understood it is not correct to say Buddhists reject God.
    Buddhists don’t talk about God.
There are no elaborate arguments advanced for or against God supporting or contesting those who believe.
Concept of God is superfluous to them.
Newton you may be aware was a devout Christian who spent half the time studying scriptures.
He doesn’t say “God ordained that let there be an equal and opposite reaction for every action.” He simply says “Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.”
Similarly Buddha described the nature of human existence as he understood it AS IT EXISTS.
He was very wise to avoid this trap.

“As I entered there was the slogan: “BELIEVE!” “

    Shamon J,

A simple question if you wouldn’t mind.

If you were to see “Don’t believe” in that slogan, would you believe it?
Believing or not believing is the two faces of the same coin. I think you have a sense of the two extremes of the mind, which we call duality. True, It is a prerequisite for surviving in this material world. What we need is to overcome the limitation of the duality of the mind by widening our awareness. Religion is for this purpose, whether it is Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, or Islam, whatever you call it. Unfortunately, all religions have been hijacked by the (collective) mind to survive.

If you go beyond the limits of your mind, you will know that all these natural disasters are nothing but to reorganize his lost equilibrium because of the actions of stupid human creatures. There is no tsunami, no COVID, no flood, no war in the higher sense. (Of course, they are on the mental level). Please don’t look for favors from nature. If God favors you, this world will stop spinning and there will be neither day nor night; duality, no creation, no Utpada-Titi-Banga.

“God” is for realisation, No to change the world in our favor.

So it is not an uphill task to question the existence of God , honestly they

There is a difference in thinking about God between the followers of Hindus whose faith is a God-centred religion and others whose faith is a Prophet-centred religion. God wanted people to turn back and look at him for the sins they have committed. No doubt India was severely affected with coronavirus. But it had to be analyzed carefully. God created all beings to to co-exist in this planet. That is why God is depicted with various animals and birds as their vehicles to show that every being has a place in this planet to co-exist with the human beings. But it is sad to hear that man kills animals, birds and fishes and trade on those blood and flesh which were created by God. India is no exception. God also produced certain herbs like Rudraksha (Elaeocarpus ganitrus) to heal such viruses and this is depicted in Lord Shiva by wearing Rudraksha. Rudraksha has vibratory power and has the force of driving out any viruses to a distance 100 to 125 meters from the wearer. Moreover majority of the people affected with coronavirus are non-vegetarians. This may sound as non-sense, but I felt the spiritual vibration within my body which I think is strengthening and immunizing the body. But I don’t know how to explain.

      AR,

“That is why God is depicted with various animals and birds as their vehicles to show that every being has a place in this planet.”

Actually, animals come into the picture due to man living near jungles and imagining things, including being fearful. Asians, particularly Hindus, living near dense jungles feared the Cobra, the Elephant, etc., and made them into God. They also feared fire, drought, etc., and created corresponding deities. Hindus found cows would be useful in getting milk, associated it with Lord Krishna and they made it sacred; even in Hare Krishna temples in the West, you will see cows being given a special place. In Middle Eastern countries with only deserts and no major jungles, people’s imaginations and fears were different. So their imaginations created Jesus, Mohammad, and the like.

        Agnos,
I am sorry you have to study the philosophy in Hinduism carefully. When the French philosopher Montessque, George Benard Shaw, the great scientist Albert Aeinstein and many others had said that the only true religion is Hinduism, as there are great truth behind those pictures, I find your contentions are utter non-sense. You have got to realize the great value of the powerful mantra OM NAMASIVAYA and the herbal and holy tree known as RUDRAKSHA. Space is not enough to describe everything here. It will be too late to realize how God had provided remedies for every disease.

          AR,

I am from a Hindu family and became agnostic in my late teens. I know all about Hindu philosophy, so you can spare me. Einstein wanted to be known as an agnostic though he had reservations about being called atheistic.

Anyway, people shouldn’t try to hang on to some long-ago dead men’s words, no matter how well-known. Why not simply use basic reasoning and logic, instead of clutching at straws? God definitely did not provide remedy to every disease. The world has progressed to a point where we can send probes to MARS. Meanwhile, you keep talking about Namasivaya and Rudraksha
