Torching Ranil’s Residence: Questions Surface About Another ‘Arabi Wasantha’ Incident

As the country reels from the triumph and shock of the events of July 9, questions have been raised about the arson attack on Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe‘s Fifth Lane private residence around midnight. It was an uncharacteristic finish to a day filled with triumph and celebratory sentiment, despite brutal baton charges, relentless tear gas attacks and live ammunition the demonstrators faced as they breached the Presidential Palace, Secretariat building and also the Prime Minister’s official residence the Temple Trees.

The Wickremesinghe residence on Fifth Lane where the Premier has always chosen to reside even while holding office and entitled to the Temple Trees official residence, was set ablaze after protesting crowds flocked to the site following the brutal attacks on six Sirasa TV journalists by Special Task Force personnel securing the residence.

STF personnel were caught on camera surrounding and assaulting the journalists and subsequently their colleagues who arrived on the scene to take them to hospital for medical treatment. A female journalist Sarasi Peiris who had been at the helm of the exclusive Sirasa coverage of the breach of President’s House and the relentless teargas attacks and baton charges the protesting crowds encountered, was also badly injured in the STF assault.

With the Sirasa cameras beaten back, scenes at Fifth Lane went dark. Incensed by the attacks on the media, crowds swelled at Fifth Lane and were repeatedly tear-gassed and beaten back, eyewitnesses told Colombo Telegraph.

Reports emerged on social media and messaging groups about unruly elements mingling with the sea of Aragalaya protestors, wielding poles and other makeshift weapons and threatening all those who dared to film events unfolding on their mobile telephones. Despite the heavy STF presence, the perimeter to the residence was breached and crowds reported seeing looting and destruction of property. Less than an hour later, Wickremesinghe’s home was ablaze, sending shockwaves across a largely triumphant nation, that had seen an unprecedented people’s movement bring the military and the political establishment to its knees.

Arabi Wasanthas henchman setting Army Bus on fire on 31 March 2022

The arson attack also brought swift condemnation upon the protest movement for allowing things to spiral out of control, with multiple messages of sympathy and solidarity going out to the Prime Minister and his wife. Ironically, despite the events that took place at the Mirihana protest on 31 March 2022, Sri Lanka’s Colombo elites were quick to heap blame on the protest movement and seek to discredit its aims. Those with familiar with the case of Arabi Wasantha and the Mirihana bus burning, are warning that there might be more to the attack on Wickremesinghe’s house than meets the eye.

The Mirihana protest outside President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s private residence took a dark turn after a man drove an army bus into the melee. Soon afterwards the man and his assistant set the bus ablaze, escalating tensions and inspiring a vicious crackdown on the protest that had been largely peaceful thus far. The bus burning incident also paved the way for President Rajapaksa to declare a state of emergency, curfew and digital clampdown for several days.

The individual who gained notoriety by first driving the bus and then setting it ablaze in Mirihana is Satha Nalaka alias ‘Arabi Wasantha’ now facing charges under the public property act at the Gangodawila Magistrate’s Court.

Avant Garde boss Nissanka Senadhipathi with then Defence Secretary Gotabaya

Arabi Wasantha is an employs of Avant Garde Security based in Etul Kotte, the security firm owned and operated by former army major and Gotabaya Rajapaksa acolyte, Nissanka Senadhipathi. Senadhipathi’s security operation employees hundreds of ex military personnel, including Arabi Wasantha who was one attached to the Sri Lanka Air Force.

Despite video footage of the bus and the moment it was set ablaze, it took police nearly two months to locate Arabi Wasantha, who taunted law enforcement on social media during that time.

Once he was arrested on 20 May 2022, a strange series of events followed. Arabi Wasantha claimed he had driven the bus into the area to “save the life and property of the President”. On June 24, the CID marched into the Gangodawila Magistrate’s Court and urged the judge to grant him bail, claiming that he honestly had not known that the bus was “public property”. The Attorney General immediately filed a motion seeking to drop the charges against Arabi Wasantha, to the shock and outrage of the Magistrate.

Colombo Telegraph can now reveal that the AG and the CID were acting on the instructions of the newly minted Minister of Law and Order Tiran Alles, also a close associate of Avant Garde Chairman Senadhipathi. Together the two powerful political influencers were seeking to have the man tasked with turning the Mirihana Protest violent on 31 March set free and leaning on the Attorney General and the CID to get him bail from Court.

Tiran

In a bizarre twist, a volley of senior army officers marched into the CID headquarters in Fort to voluntarily provide testimonials for Arabi Wasantha, among them a Brigadier and seven other army officials. Strangely, the AG told court, the statements were made only after Arabi Wasantha was charged as a suspect in the case, and not before. The military personnel claimed that Arabi Wasantha had de-escalated the situation at Mirihana by his actions. The AG claimed this was completely contrary to what military and police personnel on duty at the protest had claimed.

The AG’s about-face was the result of a timely exposure on social media regarding the reasons for the Gotabaya Rajapaksa regime to seek Arabi Wasantha’s release.

The rank political interference in the Arabi Wasantha case, tells a damning story about subterfuge and external interventions in a peaceful protest movement by shadowy elements closely associated with the regime.

    *
The only way forward is to remove:-
    *
    – All current members of Parliament and prevent them from ever holding public office again.
    – Military top who are loyal to the Rajapakse family.
    – Corrupt members of the Judiciary.
    – All Rajapakse appointees.

Nothing will change until this is done imho.

      UK Citizen,
      .
Need of the hour is to invest more in rebuilding the nation. Society experts, psychologists, sociologists and other professionals will have to join hand and implement- long term national policies. Parliamentarians should be re-trained for a better future: Each and everyone should work hard for a common goal. Setting a plan should be made with the assitance of foreign experts.
      .
In an any govt, in the future, war hero field marshal SARATH FONSEKA can do a great job if he would be the MINISTER of defence.

European countries will surely help, if srilankens would approach them for rebuilding the nation. Germany after WWII, rose up with the support of International Community. And they worked very hard from the day one.

We the expats see it right, while the locals would stay enjoying – video clips of SWIMMING POOLS activities, that was put to air yesterday. Our people would love to enjoy with schadenfreude. That they have in their blood. I think, buddhist and other clergies should come forward to unite the nation – kicking out the racism by every means. Alone expat srilankens could give them saline, if racial mind set would be healed off. Latter is a not an easy task, but if ARAGALAYA would give it a try, their seniors would listen to change their stagnated mind set. RACISM is the biggest germ in SINHALA AND TAMI mindset.

Like the leadership of the UNP ……. now, it looks like Ranil will never let go of the Premiership …….. stuck like a leech.

In 2 short months, he has called himself Churchill, W. G. Grace ……… dunno what his description of himself now? Napoleon and Waterloo? ………. Return and the War of the Seventh Coalition?

        Falstaff?

He has collected many books; wonder if he has read any? ……… if he has read and comprehended …… will he ever go onto form a government with the utterly corrupt murderous Rajapakses …….. Cahameera’s brilliant question https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JKwW_17kvE 6:30

The view I’ve always held ……. Books and English language …… has very little effect on civilizing/moralising/ethic-alling the ape in man.

After so long wallowing in English ……. teaching, living and breathing it ……. treachery, betrayal ……. can be very casual and matter-of-fact ………

Forgot to add ……. I too unreservedly condemned the burning of his residence ……… no one deserves it.

But he should be publicly hanged in the Galle Face Green …….. for the crimes he has committed against the country and the party. His unforgivable crime is, looking the other way and pretending not to see all the corruption ……. and letting the culprits get way.

Then again, I still believe, elected on his own, with 6.9 million votes …… he would’ve been the best president ……. we never had.

          There you go …………..

          Dear Kalay,
          .
You’ve got to think through what you say; it is dangerous to throw slogans around:
          .
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xniPFC-rNY4
          .
That is an eleven minute video that had been made two months ago, but it is startlingly relevant even now.
          .
Listen to it; the way Rohan Pethiyagoda speaks is a delight in itself.
          .
My own feeling is that there are at least 20 people in Parliament who are an asset. Why do we hate Gota? Partly because he’s a thug; also selfish and arrogant. Perhaps not above helping himself to state funds (it’s some of the other brothers who were more corrupt.
          .
However, Gota made such a mess of things because he had no experience in politics. Just think of the economic issues. I wouldn’t dare dabble in that area I have relatives who are “highly qualified accountants”, and Bank Managers, but they’d be clueless about the economic issues that a Minister of Finance has to grapple with.

        Dear RTF,
        .
What you have said is a definite improvement on what Kalay has thoughtlessly uttered.
        .
There may be a few others also who should be thrown out. Some who are very old should also retire gracefully. (over 70 is too old, usually, although there may be an occasional guy who can remain useful even when much older). Think of R. Sambanthan; he’s contributing much even now, but let him now stand down.

Also, ethnic chauvinism and Sinhalese Buddhist-only policy and the land-only belong to them ideology should be dismantled. The Buddhist monk’s influence and power should be turned and they should be banned from interfering in state affairs and stick to religion only. The highly bloated armed forces and police, a huge drain on the budget and resources, that is 99.99% Sinhalese only, should be heavily trimmed and their composition should reflect the island’s ethnic mix. 70% Sinhalese 20% Tamil and 10 Muslim Tamil. Tamils were 20% before the riots and this percentage should always be taken, as otherwise the deliberate and planned to chase away the island’s Tamil population and reduce them to the current 16% is being rewarded and taken advantage of.

      • 15
        3

Lastly, the army should be removed from the north and east, there is no need for their presence after 13 years of war. If not heavily trimmed and confined to the barracks and not interfere in civilian affairs or confiscate land under various excuses or build Buddhist temples and install Buddha statues everywhere, especially on the premises of Hindu temples. They are not doing anything productive other than being a hindrance to the local Tamil population, terrorising them and not allowing them to be productive or prosper. The executive presidency abolished, the rule of law, human and civil rights, and everyone be equal and justice for all. Racists advocating marginalization and ethnic cleansing, settlement of Sinhalese in Tamil areas and converting ancient Hindu temples to Buddhists or installing Buddha statues in Tamil areas, unless done legally, should be banned and severely punished like they do in other nations and not treated as golden heroes.

Who are you to tell the Government of Sri Lanka to remove the army from NE. North East is still a part of Sinhale/Sri Lanka. The Government of Sri Lanka can decide where to keep its army.

The people of the South unceremoniously evicted the all powerful executive president (you stupid idiots thought/believed need such powerful president to keep the unitary country intact). The saddest part is the all powerful president could not hold on to his official resident.

Now you know who won the war.

Tell your dumb Mahasangha, and all your Sinhala/Buddhist shameless bigots to think using their brain, and not to sit on it.

Bottom Line is Bondscam Ranil had to GO!
RW was implicated in the 2015 Central Bank Bond scam which set the stage for the debt trap built up through speculative and reckless ISB borrowing, rent-seeking and Odious Debt. Ranil was mastermind of the CBSL bondscam destroyed the highest financial and oversight institution of the country and is the chief architect of the International Sovereign (ISB) Debt trap and Default so his Washington Backers can colonize Lanka with India and Australia’s Cricket team (QUAD) while Lanka sinks!
Also implicated in this history of ISB debt is the Greek Bond scam of SLFP’s Nivard Cabraal followed by the Central back bondscams of the UNP government leading to the current bi-partisan International Sovereign bondscam debt trap and default into the IMF’s arms.

    • 12
      24

While the US citizen Rajapakse brothers Basil and Goat are responsible of the Staged Default and had to go, the UNP government of 2015-2019 is largely responsible for the current US-Based ISB debt trap

But is was the UNP with Harsha de Silva and Eran Wickramaratne that took the most amount of ISB borrowing in their years in power 2015 to 2019 and caused the trap. Now they must all go!
The UNP which claim to know how to run the economy are the captains of Odious Debt and actually to blame for the current ISB DEBT TRAP!

Majority o loans taken 2015 to 2019 is for repayment of Loans and bonds taken by MaRa during 2005- 2014 uneconomical No RoI projects spending spree much against the advise of Senior Public Servants, and Opposition MPs who are economists (Eran and Harsha)!!
if they did not Sri Lanka would have default far earlier on repayment of loans!! Remember PBJ at the end of presidential term said, that if opposition comes to power (which they did that they would have to repay lot of Loans)
that was caused by MaRa and clan

Whether RW should go or not is the issue here.
There was an arson attack on his private residence. What is our view?
        Is it “RW deserves it”?
He has shown far greater dignity than other politicians whose homes were torched in responding to the crime.
Something is truly fishy and we cannot let it pass.
I have some doubts about details of the article, but the essence of the story is valid.

What the Tri Forces must remember is that they are paid by the citizens of the country and not by the looters of Public Coffers. They are duty bound to protect those who pay their wages which sustain them and their families. It is a heinous crime to fire at and baton charge the very hands that feed them. It is atrocious to attack the 1st News Crews who were unarmed and the Ambulance crew who arrived to help the injured personnel. The police SSP brought shame to the police uniform which need to be respected. The IGP should have ordered him to be arrested and charged for abusing his authority and subjecting the entire Police Force to public ridicule and utter contempt. The burning of the private residence of the Gotabaya Amude man is the culmination of the frothing anger resulting from such atrocious savage acts.

“…1983 how his uncle unleash the atrocities…”
      —-
It was Tamils who ignited July 1983 clash between Sinhalayo and Tamils by blowing 13 members of the Sri Lanka Army into pieces using mines. It was a planned act to create a backlash to send a large number of Tamils to other countries to convince the International Community that Sinhala Buddhist majority is marginalizing and discriminating Tamil minority to get their sympathy and support for their demand for a separate State and to use those who fled to other countries as economic asylum seekers to collect money to buy arms.

Karma is a bitch and the curse of the Thamizh has not gone in vain. Remember the deliberate and planned burning of Thamizh, homes. businesses and killings, rapes and torture of innocent Thamizh civilians during the state-sponsored anti-Thamizh pogroms in 1977 and 1983 and the deliberate, planned burning of the Jaffna library, the oldest and largest library in Asia, with many ancient rare manuscripts, that proved the ancient history of the island’s Thamizh, when Ranil was the minister during his uncle JR Jayawardene’s regime. Now he has suffered the same, that the Thamizh suffered, his home getting burned by the very same Chingkalla mobs, that burned, destroyed and looted Thamizh’s homes and possessions.

Did you notice these mobs were all carrying lion flags? I am sure you and the fake vedda must have had a “moment of moisture” upon seeing those flags.

By the way how come Sinhala/Buddhists, Sinhala/Buddhist, armed forces, SInhala/Buddhist patriots, …… Sinhala/Buddhism could not protect fellow Sinhala/Buddhist Sinhala/Buddhist president and his clan.

People beginning to wake up their true sense, identity and value as Sinhalese and Buddhist not their manufactured Sinhala/Buddhist fake identity.

There are rumours, both KAPUTA and GOTA (executionist) are about to leave BIA tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.

Btw, can we ever carry LION FLAGs today ? Looking at the manner, how OUR SOCALLED lions betrayed as of today ?
        .
Dearest NV, can you please find me the POSTAL ADDRESS of LESTER ? I have been trying to post him a new variety of PUNNAKU…. perhaps that could help him to become a normal human being …. at least we can make our minds up thinking that we tried by various means to convince him.

Are you aware, if these silly protestors set up their “pissu poosa” government, IMF and foreign donors will stay far away. Kindly inform them to vacate official government premises and allow the transition government to function normally, lest Sri Lanka turn into Somalia.

This is why terror supporters on CT and Youtube are so angry. I have never seen this level of anger among white racists in the UK. They mostly hate foreigners because of economic jealousy. But our friends from 10% land have a genuine hatred of everything Sinhalese.

As I said many times, I only support MaRa and Gotha. Namal, Basil, et. all are corrupt, especially Namal. They should be tried in the Courts. The real Courts, not the “pissu poosa” courts of Aragalaya. We also need to bring your friend CBK back from UK and put her in the Courts along with Ratwatte relatives.

As said many a times so far/ CBK was genuine and did nt steal state wealth. 😍😍That was necessary for them considering their background s they came from. So is the RW.😍😍 But believe or not Rajapakshe s nature and nurture is similar to that of Juliampitiya amaraya (convicted criminal). Criminal Genes are inborn in them. Mara made u and the like vulnerable eternally fools. ☹☹☹☹☹His kind of power grrediness is only comparable to that of Mugabe. 🐕🐕🐕🐕Enough should be enough. Bugger could do lot more good for this suffering nation by the mandate he was given twice.🐕🐕🐕 He instead filled up his pockets. ☹☹☹we have proof s.

Why should we ruin the lives of the masses that deserve a better life? In the same time offering Tesla vehicles to own children? I as one who live in Europe for ages cant make my mind up even if make human errors in our daily pvt and business life. I do whatever I can do to make change in elderly people who are really in need. Leela,

“As said many a times so far/ CBK was genuine and did nt steal state wealth. “

What a joke. She was convicted by the Supreme Court for corruption in Water’s Edge case: “The Supreme Court on Wednesday, upholding a fundamental rights petition filed by two retired public servants, Suganapala Mendis and Raja Senanayake, said former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, was instrumental in illegally transferring state lands meant for a ‘public purpose’ to a private golf course — now known as Waters Edge.” No different than Basil.

That is just one thing. She bought a mansion in UK. The curtains were more than the cost of the civil servant’s salary in SL. She sent her daughter to veterinary school in UK. Paid with SL taxpayer money. Very expensive! Her Uncle Ratwatte and his son Lohan are also master criminals.

Her real crimes are losing Elephant Pass, Kilinochi, and Mullaithivu to the LTTE. Many good generals died defending these places.

  • 21
    3

Also, the very same Chingkalla masses that hailed the Rajapakse as heroes, for defeating the LTTE and the Thamizh and for all the horrible war crimes and deeds done to them in the name of Chingkalla Buddhism, even voted for them for more of this, have now chased them away as traitors looters and swindlers. 74 years of state-sponsored Chingkalla racism, ethnic chauvinism and Buddhist extremism, that severely discriminated, against and marginalised the island’s Thamizh, making them third rate in their own land with no justice or rights, forcing 1.3 million of them to leave. Have all these moves brought prosperity to the island or the Chingkallams.? The answer is no. Only corruption, bankruptcy, misery and starvation. Al these so-called saviours and heroes of the Chingkallams who preached racism are now found to be opportunistic swindlers, who have enriched themselves, their relatives and friends, wrapping themselves with the so-called patriotic racist flag. It is time to start a new chapter and history, where racism has no place and all are treated equally and merit is the sole criteria. This land belongs to all not just to the Chingkallams or Buddhists. It never had been. 1/3 of it was from ancient times Thamizh and Hindu.

    • 7
      5

The Buddhist monks are the thugs and more racist than the Sinhalese people. But in the end people who vote and follow is the culprit. They voted for the ugly thugs and dirty rascals. They joined the racist programs. The Sihalese people thought by suppressing the minority they will do well. Sorry forks. The 1.3 million Tamils who fled SL is doing well and have enough food to eat and drive 2 cars per family in western countries. Their kids are holding very high position in the government. Some are MPS. These 1.3 million are not worried about food or fuel. Karma has come back to SL. Now wake up my Sinhala friends. Get rid of all 225 and vote for people who was never in politics before. Only look at their education and what they can do to move the country forward.

    • 4
      1

Agree on the excesses but watch out some miscreants here who believe that all religious and racial minorities resent the Lion flag. That’s a characteristic lie. Such assumptions from safety abroad are ill intended reflections of perverted minds. After propagating such seeds of hate, they create Hitlers at home, and enjoy their hatred and justification of bullying in democracies. They can be both majority and minority who want to impose.

No the Aragalaya actually went well and of course the minorities are watchful for nasty types that could do another 74 year cycle. There is actual joy amidst the difficulties of people (which the miscreants always denied) and the youth are optimistic.
I doubt the youngsters are as stupid as go down the deep state street.

We must tell the Chinese to cancel the loans given by enticing the Rajapkshes and Nivard Cabraal through bribery and corruption to agree into ventures which are obviously not economically viable but purely for the Chinese to put down their dirty feet on clean Srilankan soil.

SL tried the US and India before turning to China for a loan for the H’tota harbour, an idea mooted under CBK and feasibility studies done by Canadian and European companies.

The Chinese can cancel the loans and take over the roads and harbour and coal power station in return? You can then call it a loan trap. Not a bad thought.

The problem in Sri Lanka is that the system is rotten to the core. There is bribery and corruption, then the issue of former members of the armed forces colluding with their political chums to pervert justice. A very weak judiciary. An all too powerful buddhist clergy.
On top of it over a quarter of a million army personnel, nearly 90,000 Airforce and Navy personnel and 80,000 policemen.
The events yesterday reminded me of the overthrow of Caucescu in Romania in 1989. Will the Sinhala Buddhist majority ever give up its dominant status and form a truly inclusive government and respect the human rights and the territorial integrity of the Tamil minority?

Thanks for the great comment. Corruption is everywhere but what matters is percentage. CBK as a female leader managed it to it’s best at the time brutal war expenditure was the burden to lanken economy. She had no choice but to purchase most expensive weoponaries to fight against the rythless rebels. She also increased salaries of teachers 3 times more that they got then. All these were balanced being caught by a brutal state of civil war. No scarcity of fuel and essential daily needs of the people were heared in that 10 years. With high tech weapons she imported/ Rajapakshes terminated terror/ with the support of collectivity/ however they mlechcha men interpreted it as if the Rajapakshe siblings did the entire job also kicking real war hero away/ publicly/ that alone proved how dangerous and selfish minded Rajapakshes are. In a civilised world / general Fonseka would have kept above/ but srilanken gallery was made to worship the criminals. Sinhala Buddhist mentality is so incompetent so that they would be caught even by the easy tricks being played on them. Mythos and kaliamma control the majoratarian mind set. If kaliamma would ask them to taste dog shit/ people in masses would line up to do so/ even more if their idols/ Rajapaksches would lead the ques. That is the ingrained conditioned mindset of them evolve. 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

The burning of Ranil W’s house was unwarranted and inexcusable. That is his private residence that he lived in for decades, and did not want to move to his official residences even when the opportunity presented itself, unlike the Rajapaksa’s who have bought many properties with their ill gotten gains. Ranil may be an incompetent weak leader, but he did not deserve to have his house burnt and the loss of personal belongings.

Whoever is behind this should be found and thrown in jail.

    • 6
      6

Ranil is no innocent person. He is an class act cunning politician. He got what he deserves. That is his Karma. Ranil and his uncle made their wealth on the poor peoples back. I am sorry I do not feel sorry

      • 1
        2

This is not about feeling sorry. It is about the disregard for valuable books, which was a national asset, that was going to educate the younger generation. To have a collection of ancient and historical books relating to Sri Lanka’s past, and centuries of our heritage and history, burnt by vicious uneducated criminals, is uncalled for, because people hated the owner. No one said he is innocent of anything, and only those who do not appreciate preserving books that pertain to our history, cannot see the loss this is to the country.

In history leaders like Mao Tse Tung, and Hitler, resorted to burning books and obliterating history.

Oh boy……the more the Rajapaksas try to twist the peaceful movement intents, the more legitimate any violence created is seen.

Ranil & residence is a direct indicator of why Lankan masses are starving today : Ancestral wealth of not too many generations ago, and attempting to carry on the same policies of politics, so such wealth can be maintained and enhanced. People, they are NOT the indicator of genteel Lankan society. THEY, are the reason fellows like the Rajapaksas went mad, in trying to keep up with the status quo!

(Btw, there are pics. of Rosi donned in queenly sari, planting vegetables, whilst Madam US- ambassador is in simple work attire, tilling our soil)

Burning of Ranil’s house looks like it was well planned.
First took out the media personnel in the most inhuman manner on tape.
By the above it blinded public access to events on the ground.
Brought in fear to the protesters too as about 60 of them too were attacked
Just before the burning I think even the power went out.
Like Mirihana the law enforcement was on site.

Has the media identified the two guys in white shirts among the STF personnel?
    The answer could lie there.
All STF and police that attacked media and protesters should be properly investigated and if found guilty, terminated with cause depriving of any benefits including pensions.

Have the Aragalaya protesters issued a statement yet that their members were not responsible for the torching of the PM’s residence and condemning it? To my knowledge, they have not thus far and that, to me, is either a virtual admission of responsibility or, at least, a tacit approval of what took place.

On the 9th May, …. after putting fire to numerous places, they claimed not to have done them…. who else could have the criminal energies to do so…. is that an act of JVP ?

Burning down his house is a waste of time. It shows these Aragalaya buggers are clueless and heartless. They are in C7 and out of all the wealthy people, this loser is the only target they can find? In 1983, the mob had lists. Specific targets.

ranil has a stubborn streak in him.he lost in politics and now his house too because of it.When the speaker announced that gota will resign on the 13th,ranil also should have said when gota officially resigns then he also will resign because he was appointed by gota.Instead he said he will stay on till a new PM is appointed. That is what would have made the crowd angry with him. Also ranil should have given strict instructions to the STF guarding his house not to attack any peaceful people and media.

      S
      Did RW refuse to reign?
If GR appointed him, he needs to go when GR dismisses him. Not when GR goes. Is RW an ancient Indian wife to perform a ‘Sati’?
What is wrong in staying on until the new prime minister is named? that is pretty much standard practice.

      • 0
        0

        SJ

yes he did citing IMF meetings with him.

he did not perform sati.He is too shrewd for that..He left his sickly wife to do that.

Standard practices don’t apply when there is a mob howling outside your house. He was hoping for sati of his wife to give lot of sympathy votes like sirimavo and chandrika got after SWRD was shot and losing an eye.He was appointed by gota from the back door though he was only a national list MP and when gota said he will resign on the 13th for ranil to stay after that day is shameful as he has lost the legitimacy of being the PM after the 13th.His stubborn streak took over as usual.

  • 3
    2

It is a well-planned burning of Ranil’s house and his valuable library. This is similar to the burning of the Jaffna library.
The protestors are not involved in that attack because.
    1. They never destroyed any items in Presidency Place and Temple Trees

2/ They had a librray at GOTA GO HOME VOLLGE. They gave books to the Jaffna library
    3. Protestors are educated youth and they know the value of books
    4. They also knew that Ranilk house and library are written to Royal college Colombo
5 Rajaokse’s paid coolers first attacked the reporters with the help of the police follwed by the attack on Ranils huse

Rajapakse family is an expert on such attacks

Ranils; sickly educated wife was in the house at the time of attack. Ranil and the Police should have moved her to a safe place

    Bert,
In Sri Lanka, it is impossible to find the truth since the Judiciary or Police or CID (system) are not used to investigate properly to find the truth. So far, we don’t know the truth through our system to find who killed Lasantha or who master mind the Easter Bombing or many other crimes.
We all know our polititical masters and business leaders have many investments officially and privately in Sri lanka and other countries do we know how much tax paid by them every year?

  • 2
    4

    Who are the protesters?
It is reported that the protest was organized by the Inter-university Students Federation (IUSF). Look at their history. IUSF is responsible for introducing “sexual ragging” and illegal drugs to universities. Once a Vice Chancellor of a university revealed that senior students of Student Federations rape freshers under the guise of ragging. When the IUSF students were not engaged in sexual ragging, they protested on the street disrupting the education of other students. These are the youth who forcibly entered the President’s Official Residence and demanded his resignation. Just look at their behaviour at the President’s House. See how lame, immature and indecent they are. Are we going to let this immature lot decide the future of Sri Lanka?
Forcibly entering the President’s Official Residence, criminal trespass, wilful damage, mischief and causing danger to the President’s life are criminal offences. All those who forcibly entered the President’s Official Residence should be prosecuted and heavily fined for their mischief.

      Champa,

I really dont know what a question that is to be ?

      WHO ARE THE PROTESTERS ?

Rajapakshes should be lucky to have fed PUNNAKU eaters for such a long time. If people would have been normal, I have no doubt, Rajapkashes would not have been alive as of today.
      .
Any country where GOTA, MARA or THEIR HIGHLY CORRUPTED MEN ruled, would not have lasted long.

Actually, by today, MaRa should have just gotten his deserts. SOUTH ASIAN REGION is the world far poor region filled with incompetent people controlled by numerous myths, religious beliefs. Those who are born cunning, live up their hidden propensities on the vulnerable like some are used to fish on muddy waters.
      :
Remember how Nicolae Ceaușescu (left), President of the Socialist Republic of Romania from 1974 (and leader of the country since 1965), and his wife Elena Ceaușescu (right), were executed ?

This was following trial on 25 December 1989. Subversion of state power by organising armed actions against the people and state power.

At the outset, I wish to place on record my disgust of the arson on the residence of Ranil.W. Almost 2500 books, some going back to the Dutch and later the Portugese era.
Handed down over three generations. Royal college colombo has lost this invaluable collection. The burning of the Jaffna Library in 1981 was an event that was more reprehensible for its sheer racism……….

Anyway, burning properties due to political issues seems to be a knee jerk reaction in Srilanka.

In Aug 2020 Parliamentary election there were 19 members elected from the constituency where Ranil.W. contested. He was nowhere near that 19. He should have laid off and honourably retired from politics. Instead he began travelling along with Lumpen elements like the Rajapaksas and found himself burnt out.
Eventually,Royal college is the loser; Damn shame.

It is the country that has lost. These priceless collection of books, are a national asset, and it had been well preserved and taken care of for decades. To have some uneducated criminals burn the house and destroy them is a loss for the nation, when ancient books and manuscripts which could have helped our younger generation and scholars have access to records of our history going back centuries. Yes, the burning down of the Jaffna Library was also an outrage, and a big loss for the country.

We always have the habit of identifying known persons to any problematic issue. But beneath the known world the unknown or elements considered insignificant play a considerable role. The author wishes to put two and two together in identifying “Arabi Wasantha” and bus burning. What about burning of houses that took place, essentially of government politicians a few weeks back? How did a crowd that surged into the 5th Lane have all the implements to burn? Some allege the intelligence is fully aware of what is going on but are keeping quiet for their own safety as the future of the country is uncertain on any matter. What is clear amidst the peaceful, democratic massive protest there are dark forces with their own agenda, perhaps to take power, using “Salami tactics”. First slice “Gota Get out!”. Now the second slice “The all party government is a sham! We too must have our say in the government!” The final slice could be “Give us the entire government and out with you 225”. Then the local Mao Zhe Dong will appear in the local Tien an Mien square to address the nation. Democracy! It is a farce that breeds Kleptocracy.

    Dear Readers
Attack in Prime Minister Ranil’s Residence
In 1965 I was giving tuition in Physics for A/L for Ranil; s brother by visiting his house. His father Desmond the owner of lake house was a gentleman . I know him personally. The literacy rate of Sri Lanka is very high because of free education. The value of books is well known to majority of the Sri Lankans except uneducated mafia gangs who are financed by Rajapakse’s We have seen this when he resigned from PM post. Also, we know about many planned murders by this dynasty. Millions of Rupees was in Presidential palace to pay such paid mafias.
Burning the valuable books and the private residence of Ranil is fully deplored by communities. It is a planned attack to disgrace the young protesters Police has a hand on this attack as a policeman gave a helping hand for an attacker to escape.
This incident should be compared with the burning of the Jaffna Library that had more 500000 books ,when UNP was in power and Ranil was a minister. Karma is in action.
