UNP Condemns Bloemendhal Shooting At Ravi K’s Supporters

“The most recent incident of violence which took place at Bloemendhal Road, Colombo clearly demonstrates the plans of those elements who reject the culture of good governance and their intent on winning elections by unleashing terror.” says the United National Party.

Ravi KarunanayakeIssuing a statement the General Secretary of United National Party, Kabir Hashim said; “The United National Party vehemently condemns this attack on a group of people who were peacefully engaged in Minister Ravi Karunanayake’s election campaign.

“We will not leave room for retarding our efforts to establish a civilized political culture in Sri Lanka by this type of uncivilized incidents. The Commissioner of Elections up to now has been able to conduct a peaceful election campaign within the environment of good governance ushered in on 8th of January. It has been made possible due to the clear stance of this government against acts of terror and lawlessness. We would like to emphatically state that we will not allow this type of cowardly brutal attacks to reverse the victory of good governance. We request the security establishment to initiate an immediate investigation into in this incident.

“The United National Party in deep sorrow of the demise of a female party activist, who was killed during the election campaign supporting the party in its endeavor to consolidate the already achieved victory of good governance, offers its deep condolences to the members of the bereaved family. We also wish speedy recovery to all our party members and others who are hospitalised with severe injuries. We stress the need to be firm and not get discouraged by isolated incidents of this nature and all political parties, candidates and activists collectively act resolutely to ensure a peaceful election during the next few days and achieve our goal of consolidating good governance.”

You maybe on to something. There is a lot of competition in the UNP Colombo list and Ravi K is fighting to be seen and heard. This incident if nothing else gives him a lot of much needed publicity. In politics there is no such thing as bad publicity.
These politicians from both sides will do anything to win I think.

I want my post right at the top so as many will read it. These two idiots are MR lackeys who keep posting rubbish on this forum. This time they seem to have co-ordinated their efforts on this forum as if knowing this article will come out and they can get in these two idiotic comments first to sow confusion in readers minds. Ravi K as finance minister is the most reviled man to MR. He is the one saddled with all the booby traps set by MR to ensure the new government cannot carry out its promises. But he has managed to deliver on most of them. Some times even when he has given relief the very cabinet directive is sabotaged by MR lackeys still holding key positions in government. Therefore he is target number two in MRs bucket list of persons to attack. Number one is the CB governor. These two gentlemen control the purse strings of this country and are natural targets. However, our two leaders MS and RW govern like old Wessanthara. They pledged to protect a scoundrel and so they left the PSD in tact providing VIP security to an ordinary candidate running to be MP from Kurunegala. All sorts of other shady characters who were dodgy officers doing all sorts of sordid affairs for GR in the military are also kept on. So they literally asked for it. I hope RW and MS will not end up having hand over their own heads to the demon.

It shows that Mahinda Rajapakse is desparate. He is now well aware that people are not with him. He will try to go any level to capture the power. He had three weapons in previous elections. Money, Power, & Violence (Threat). He has no power now. He has less money. But he has now left with Violence only. This shooting, recent discovery of white van, attempt to murder President Mithiri recent are the hallmarks of Gotapaya regime.

It is time for people to realise who is this Mahinda and his intentions.

It’s a political vendetta by the UPLF and diverting the crime on someone else as they did for the last 10years.

the government in power should take responsibility for criminal acts now and make sure these people are caught, also this reminds us of the period from 1977 to 1993 where underworld was active taking out people from the opposition as well as enemies of their own party, lets hope that we do not allow the underworld to raise its head again

This heinous crime proves once again that the marauding goons of the past are still alive and kicking, and are getting more and more desperate by the day, as they fear their party’s fate at the hustings. It is their way of spoiling the fun of election campaigning through terror tactics and fear mongering, in order to discourage popular support and the peoples participation at such events. It is another way of putting into action their motto of ‘to win by hook or by crook’. The perpetrators of this crime must be identified and hunted down immediately and brought to justice, as a deterrent to others who may have similar ideas of creating havoc and mayhem on election day by robbing the peoples mandate.

Anybody in his right mind can see that “the loser” has paid both sides. One side to distribute leaflets and the other side to shoot them.

These are lame tactics by UNP losers. People don’t buy these ‘paid up incidents’ anymore.

Ravi Karunanayake is desperate because he is going to lose his seat this time. His Facebook battalion is fighting a losing battle to pass the ‘blame on UPFA’. Pathetic! Victorious UPFA led by Mahinda is definitely receiving more than 125 seats. Why should they bother about an imminent loser?

Let police do thorough investigation and catch the culprits. However, it looks the work of desperate forces from the main opposition party to disrupt the peaceful manner on which the present elections are being conducted in a mote civilised manner. They are desperate and finding difficult to accept the expected results on the 17th where they would be routed completely as it happened in 1977.
The civil society should react to this kind of barbaric behaviour and chase all these guys who cannot function in a civilised environment.

Rajapakse knows that he has a reputation for thuggery and murder. Do you think he is dumb enough to try and assassinate a Government Minister in the middle of an election campaign?
Also the BBC reported that the attack took place after Ravi Karunanayake had left the meeting.
So is it MR giving the UNP a warning shot? Or the UNP trying to blacken MR’s name? Or Ravi K trying to get publicity? Or an assassin who took the wrong bus and arrived at the wrong place?

Champa, when it comes to the allegations against MR such as stealing the aid money for Tsunami victims through his ‘helping Hambantota’ scam you want proof. Certainly we know he placed the money in his private account and that was exposed and that is enough proof. Whenever we brought this up you wanted proof. Same question where is the damn proof that “Anybody in his right mind can see that “the loser” has paid both sides. One side to distribute leaflets and the other side to shoot them”. Proof man proof the same language you said back to you. Why don’t you use the same yard stick as you used to defend MR? Proof man proof, where is the proof Ravi Karunanayake organized the shooting to get publicity? Lasantha Wickrematunge exposed MR for stealing millions of aid money with enough proof. Certainly he paid dearly with his life.

I put it to you anybody in his right mind can see that MR with the intent of stealing the millions of aid money he placed it in his private bank account. If you can’t accept that something is wrong with you. It is quite obvious you are a paid agent to defend him for negative publicity he continues to receive and quite rightly so for what he did in the 10 years of rule he abused power to harass and victimize people, plunder wealth of the country, even had killer squads to finish off people.

You are a paid agent I am sure you are quite well aware of what damage MR had done. Wait one day you will eat your own words. One cannot cheat all the people all the time and one day you will fall out of favour with MR and he will harm you and that day you will regret all you said about him.

UNP Sinhala Buddhist Faction Leader Karu Jayasuriya’s “Stink Bomb” has blown up on his mate, Galleon Ravi’s own Turf.

If the assailants had used “Galkattas” then Galleon and Kabir would have pinned the blame on our Sinhala Buddhists.

SB Dalits in Bloomendhal Rd and beyond wouldn’t even have “Galakattas” when the Underworld there is UNP controlled. .

And Galleon and in laws are protected species.

It was sort of sadly hilarious to read Galeon Ravi’s press release.

Galleo said ” It is not an Underworld Killing ”

The Bankrupt Opposition did the hit on his supporters”..

    Which Opposition, I wonder ?

How can Mahinda supporters find the resources and time when they are under 24 / 7 guard by Batalanda Rail’s F…. CID ?.

IGP even allowed Batalanda Ranil’s to create it without going through the Parliament… Right..

Galleon Ravi goes even further to say White Van in Mirihana, the arrest of Muslim Drug dealers , and the Body in the Bag in Pettah, are all related to this shooting.

And UNP MF Leader Kabir Hussain seems to confirm Galleon’s statement.

Obviously both haven’t seen the CCTV Footage of the man carrying the Body Bag from the Guest House in Mardana right in to the Tuk Tuk.

And he certainly doesn’t look like a Sinhala Buddhist.

Neither the two Drug King Pins .

Not sure about the White Van Drivers., but the White Van was the property of of Prabakaran at one stage.

What amazes me most is, how a Senior Minister, who awarded the biggest LKR Bond Issue to kick start Yahapalanay, can categorically clear Pathalaya ?.

And give the Underworld in Bloomendhal Rd a clean bill of health, when the Police haven’t even started their Investigation ?.

Sri lankans now follow ISIS policy -people killing own people – As long as two lame ducks MS and Ranil are in power, security of the people will be always at risk. One goes around the country saying sathu! sathu! at temples and the other trumpeting about party victory and talks about future developments, and plans while the people are held to ransom at the point of guns, demanding their votes. It is a shame on the Police, who are now supposed to be independent and strong,
had no system to trace the killers. Had no TV cameras focussing on the event neither had no plain clothed, policemen covering the event. This is the 1st time we have seen opposition attacking a govt. rally with arms in such a daring manner, only seen in the middle east. The gun carriers had scant respect for the security forces of the country. In countries like USA and Europe, the area of the incident would have been cordoned off within minutes & search and rescue work commenced immediately. The arms found so far are military owned and also in this massacre, AK 47s were used. What kind of screening the govt. has done so far on the armed forces. Are the armed forces against the govt. and under obligation to the former govt.or some of them are used as ploys. these are the questions people need answers.

Frightened voters may yield into thuggery and intimidation and vote
for parties having the brawn and not the brains to avoid further
    trouble.

“…This is the 1st time we have seen opposition attacking a govt. rally with arms in such a daring manner,…”

I beg to differ; in Feb. 1997, Gov. MP, Nalanda Ellawala (UPFA) was murdered by then opposition UNPers. Two opposition MPs Susantha Punchinilame and Mahinda Rathnathilaka (UNP) were charged but, later found not guilty; In between they had joined MR government.

These are symptoms of a sick society. The condition deteriorates as the years roll by. The worsening economic situation – the availability of depleting resources – exacerbates the communal cleavage. This results in reactionary voices in the main grouping dominating the space in the majority. See and hear what Sarath Fonseka and that mad monk Gnanassara audaciously says in public “this is Buddhist Sinhala land” By that they mean the majority are entitled to get the lion’s share of the spoils. And, as Fonseka told in the English that he knows best “others must not ask for this and that” Anyone who goes against this insane Sinhala-Buddhist logic “is a traitor, a Tiger” and what else have you.

The unnecessary war and the much sung but pyrrhic victory produced a crop of deserters – estimated varyingly from 30-80,000. They are all young, desperate marginalised men given to weapons training. Their coming from the cold coincided with the stupendous increase in the drugs trade. Many of them are now unwillingly within the vortex of this deadly trade. A fair number of them are pushed into contract-killing. Depending on which political party is in power, they are in and out in the Sinhala diaspora. Many powerful politicians send them and bring them back from abroad at will. Civil society, if not virtually killed, is in its last breath. All forms of our earlier good governance now lay in ruins. That respected ordinary, law-abiding, decent Sinhala folk find it difficult to live in the new society that has been created. They are shocked that the serene life they knew for generations is being destroyed right in front of them. Economic opportunities are dwindling in a gradually collapsing economy. Our fate, I hate to say, is in varying degrees like that which destroyed Somalia and Zimbabwe. They are both basket-cases. We are almost there. An exceptional few “who came in rickety bicycles in Bata slippers” are the now rich super-rich political leaders. As that precocious lady unabashedly said “politics is our family business” – a signature tune many once nondescript families now happily sing. Petty politics, racial prejudice and religion have combined to destroy this once resplendent land from the 1950s.

How long can we blame the Tamils, the LTTE, the diaspora, Tamilnadu, RAW, India and who else – for our own self-inflicted wounds?

Hey !! Everybody who have posted cpmments have gone off their rockers with blind assertions.

It is alleged that Kudu Lal’s gang has undertaken the canvassing for Ravi.K at Bloemendhal. They were the persons present at the time. This gand is known as 8 gand (a’tay gang)who had returned to Sri Lanka after being on the run. At the place of incident this gand led by “Army Sampath”, his deputy Madushanka and group were present.
A rival gang had driven up their and had shot. Army Sampath is suppose to be badly injured and had dissappeared.
NOW, RAVI.K HAS GIVEN A CONTRACT TO THIS KUDU LAL’S GANG LED BY ARMY SAMPATH TO CANVASS VOTE FOR HIM.

The expect another gang warfare between KImbula Ale Guna and the ex LTTE boys vs Sujeewa’s gang.
This is all to create UNP supremacy.

Probably the pro UNP underworld gangs will fight for supremacy and then will support the UNP.

He is so absurd, he’s accusing MR for the Tamil on Tamil suitcase murder of a woman by her lover in a Tamil hotel used only by tamils. He’s trying to cover up for ARMY SAMPATH and other underworld figures who cane back to Sri Lanka after Gota and MR LOST. THESE VICIOUS drug dealers and contract killers were afraid of Gota. Now they’re back to canvass for Ravi Ranil etc

Ravi K is trying to blame others for politics mileage Semasinghe the Deputy Minister of Justice CLEARLY SAID IN SINHALESE THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MR AND THAT THIS WAS A PATHALA LOKAYEY (underworld gang)internecine fight. Go listen to the Sinhala video found on LankaCNews

I feel this has the hallmarks of a underworld gang feud. These gangsters start to get involved in politics during the campaign and this is the end result. To get rid of this kind of violence you have to kill all the underworld figures.Police have to be told to shoot to kill and take no prisoners. Those who are already in prison should be killed by other inmates.Unfortunately this won’t happen because the UNP also has ties to underworld figures to whom they owe a debt for past favours done.

Forget about good governance if you have ties to the underworld.

Reading the above comments I find Sri Lanka has produced more IDIOTS than the EDUCATED. I find nobody is interested in the Economics and The future of the Country. All they do is sling mud at one another. Wake up Sri Lankans.

if you look at the following site you will notice that economic development and crime are closely interrelated. You can’t dvelop an economy with crime and corruption.one step forward and one step back it will be.Agree with you that we should focus on the economy, but also we should get rid of the stuff that hinders it too.especially foreign investors won’t come to a country where gangland murders take place.

Educated idiots and thugs including you and I? For Ct to let loose all these nutters here.

Seems nobody gives a hoot to the country, what about returning to that Paraih State we lived until The 8thOf JAN after the August Election as per PLAN BEING PLOTTED by the Present President and the Past Yakko Prezident.
I notice the crooks had played out in a big way in ITALY AS WELL ON EMLOYMENT RACKET. Hot news today ITALY HAS BLACK LISTED SRILANKA .How about that. Talking about slandering. Disgraceful greedy people ,they take projects with the idea of plundering 3/4 th of the funds given,
Srilankans are winning the titles of Fraudsters and Crooks INTERNATIONALLY AS WELL.
ALL THE SRILANKANS SHOULD BE PROUD / ASHAMED OF.

It’s worrisome to read about increased violence leading up to the election.

I hope the perpetrators of the attack on the supporters of an Hon. Minister are apprehended soon. There’s alarming news that gang leaders who fled Sri Lanka are coming back to work for people during elections .

Then we also have unusual murder cases where lovers fall out and stuff bodies in suitcases like a Hollywood slasher thriller. But why are people blaming Mahinda Rajapakse for these? I read an absurd statement trying to link the suitcase murder to Rajapakse.

Why try to score cheap political points? And rationally everyone knows UPFA cannot ever win in Colombo district. Why is Rajapakse being blamed for this shooting? 2010 and 2015 Presidential elections were relatively violence free were they not? Is there an ulterior motive to blame everything on Rajapakse to get preferential votes in a highly competitive battle within the UNP? It seems odd how certain and quick Ravi Karunanayake , Rosy Senanayake and Harsha De Silva were in blaming Mahinda Rajapakse . Do they have police insight or the FBI?

What does Rajapakse have to gain in a district he cannot win by attacking a UNP Rally? I hope the Yahapaalana President gets to the bottom of this.

Deputy Minister Semasinghe already said openly that this violent attack had nothing to do with Mahinda Rajapakse and that it was a gang war.

Why are murderous thugs who fled Sri Lanka supposedly afraid of White Vans during Mahinda’s regime coming back to work for the UNP?Is that also Mahinda’s fault?

Is there an attempt to engineer incidents to gain sympathy votes or frame Rajapakse? Remember how often the UNP has tried to frame people? Remember how police Sycophants and UNP destroyed the Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol by their dirty paranoid accusations? They tried to blame Chandrika Kumaratunge and Late Anuruddha Ratwatte. Result? Tamil Tiger fascists picking off 47 of Sri Lanka’s deep penetration unit warriors and killing Commando and Special forces officers because Ranil was paranoid.

Be wary of stage managed orchestrated publicity stunts by all parties. Didn’t know Mahinda Rajapakse was so capable of getting bodies stuffed into suitcases.
