    UNP,

Good move, to appoint 52 year-old Sajith and replace the 70 year-old Ranil, who has been there 25 years.

Now when will Ranil W retire?

Can you plan a farewell party for him for the 25 years service this week or well before the year is out?

      Amarasiri,
What has happened today has only a symbolic value b’cos the appointment has no official recognition until it is informed to the parliament. That can happen only on or after Jan 3rd. However, the position has no practical meaning if GoRa is planning to prorogue the parliamentary sessions until he can dissolve the parliament.

Considering the strong reluctance to give in by Ranil’s camp, the swiftness of today’s actions (appointment, sending the confirmation letter to the speaker and the speaker’s announcement of acceptance) suggests that it has been pre-planned. This makes me wonder what kind of a trick Ranil has in his sleeves about the next step of deciding the fate of the party leadership!

        Amarasiri.
Within 24 hours after I first raised doubts about Ranil’s intention, the issue became one of the major news item (6/12) in evening news.

ranil has just like mahinda 40 years of service.I mean service ,not results.Sri lankans are not result oriented people. They only count no of years of service, not what they did for the country or company.

no point in opposition leadership.Ranil still plans iam sure to cling to the party leadership, and unless sajits people continue to put the pressure he will succeed.

        shanker,

Sri Lankans are servicing Ranil W and Mahinda R, and it is time they select somebody else to service going forward.

One definition of stupidity is keep repeating mistakes.

Now that the man-child Sajith has been given the opposition leader position let’s see how he deals with the rise of Fascism In Sri Lanka!? Does he even know what Fascism is? How it is taking over Sri Lanka? Where it is rooted? How to eradicate it before it destroys the state?
The fact that he won’t be able to understand or respond to any of the above or the complexities of managing geopolitics should show the quality of the idiots who want him as the leader or the opposition and the UNP…
Meanwhile the SLPP are celebrating the possibility of a Sajith appointment and a sure 25 years more of Rajapaksas rule…

Harin shows that you have no brains…

Sajith has in him a fine analytical mind, a wide understanding of many subjects and an ability which Ranil never had – the ability to articulate his thoughts in both English or Sinhalese, FAR BETTER.

Given the skills so amply dispayed during the very short run up to the Presidential elections and the ease and aplomb with which he he handled tough professionals and appeased them, makes him emminently well suited for the job in my view.

He has the makings of a far better Opposition Leader than either Mahinda or Ranil, to be honest.

A paper certificate showing an OL,GCE,Al or a University Degree is not always an indication of intelligence to judge a person’s capacity to complete a task that brings benefits people who choose to repose confidence on him.
In that regard why not consider the case of RW,
Can you please let us know at least one good thing he did constructive during the entire part of his tenure of twenty five years as a parliamentarian for the benefit of the country and it’s people at large?

Mr. Pasqual thanks for your rejoinder.

You may want to check out on the academic qualifications of Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill first?

Thought you might have been able to see the capabilities of the man beyond a piece of paper.

Finally, his name is not tainted in the mud of corruption; a boast which neither Ranil nor Mahinda could ill afford to espouse.

          Enough?

To know right from wrong and to be a good leader of the people with the sole aim of serving the many and not just himself or his family, does not require educational qualification at all. There are a long list of great leaders with no formal qualifications to show but proved their credentials in holding the highest office of their lands, the likes of Sir Winston Churchill, Sir John Major of Britain, spring to mind. If one cares to peruse the credentials of past Sri Lankan leaders one will see that there had been leaders with no formal qualifications here too, including a particular individual who had sat his GCE OL exams many, many times over, so its claimed. I am sure this guy is not going to do any worse than the past leaders that SL has had! We shall see!!

        Justice and FairPlay,

Isn’t that the reason why Gotabaya refused to debate Sajith before the Presidential election? With AKD, Sajith will make a better duo in the opposition,

Better yet, if he becomes the PM, People had enough of Ranil W and Mahinda R.

      Dear Native,
Please be kind at least on this special day , where the KID has won something…

I did my research on KK’s Shadow Cabinet and found some fascinating times around the corner in the UNP politics..

      Mangala Samare Finance. and Buddhasasana.
      Ranjan Ramanayaka Religious Affairs.
      Pacha Ranawaka Power and Transport.
      Bathudeen the same
      Rauf Hakeem the same.
      Harin Boy Digital
Dr Harsha PhD Assistant Deputy Opposition Leader. & Development .
      Uncle Johhny. Excise
      Dentist Rajitha Health
      Ajith Perea Law & Order
      Ponseka Defence
Sujeev Sene Investments and Bond Trading
Those are the pivotal posts I could think of .
      =
Then the Kid has the real talents like Hirunickers and the Dentist’s Boy Chatura to field as the B Team to cut their teeth to graduate in to the A Team .
And carry the UNP Baton in the future.

Chatura in particular may need to be promoted even sooner with the dear daddy Dentist Rajitha showing some illnesses already after the Election.

Wonder what parts Ranil Aiiya, Akila Boy , Galleon Ravi, Mallika ,Kabir Hashim, Ranjith Soyza and not forgetting your fav Nayyakka going to do?.

BTW Did you see Nayyaka with Rahuman bagging the Tory Party for including the Two States the Sinhala State and Thamil State as Policy in their Election Manifesto..

And I was surprised Nayakka didn’t mince his words condemning Boris and his TEAM
In Facr Nayyakka promised to take it up with the UNP London.,

But Rahauaman was trying hard to justify the Swiss Ambassador staging that White Van , Kidnap and Torture Drama Episode One, soon after our 7 Million Dalits smashing Victory..

Wonder whether there is a hidden agenda there.
I mean the Speaker , UNP Uncle Karu to install the SIL in case Keselwatta Kid goes to Yala again for Meditation..

At long last a true democratic prone true son of mother Lanka has been given rightful place in the true democratic channels of the now sunk one-time isle.

If only he was allowed to be in the running for the post of a president many a moon ago, the result today would have been different

All the citizens of the beleaguered island will be howling with jubilation instead of being controlled by the armed rowdies of the always on the rampaging military forces.

May the Triple Gem along with all the other gods, bless protect and endeavor him to attain his rightful place so that he can work smartly to make mother Lanka attain its rightful place as the granary of the east, when Ceylon was an economic giant in South East Asia when it was given independence by the British in 1948.

As he is a member of a truly functioning democratic party in this country may he be given the strength to raise the status quo of the once serene isle.

    Cheers, R,. J.

      Hi RJ,

You are no different than the blind slaves hoveling at the feet of the Rajapaksas.
How is SP such a saint as you imply here? He is the son of a former president, which in my opinion is his only “achievement”. He may claim that he has served the people just like all Sri Lankan politicians say but I would say that it needs to be a obligation for him to serve the people.
It’s not saintly if you are simply doing what you are supposed to do. So stop pedestalizing politicians to the point of divinity and instead criticize and appreciate them in a sensible manner.

      Regards,
      Black sheep

U N P drama is not going to decide anything . Sajith fights for that , Sajith
fights for this and Sajith knocked out his boss and all this stuff , not going
to change a thing . The president election itself was fought with full vigour
by all three main horses , not because what the president can and can not
do but because of the general election that was just following behind . If
the local election was one rehearsal for the S L P P , Bentara- Alpitiya was
another just a few days ahead of the election ! And if that was not enough ,
there were some court rulings to push Gota image up ! Every piece of events
helped Gota win . The spread of racism that nobody did nothing to control ,
has now matured and started giving its fruits to those who nurtured it .
We like it or not , Gota win was historic and it is double historic because of
wrong reasons and that won’t be corrected in the coming years by anyone !

Native Vedda: Do you expect this Sajith to “Perform” in it’s true sense in the office of Leader of the Opposition? How many times on how many “National Issues” he contributed his “Two Cents” worth while being in the Government and as a Minister? I hardly remember any such contribution. Perhaps, now you have conveyed “Congratulations” would remember many such instances. He (Sajith) too has too many skeletons in the cupboards to clear. He is sure to “BEG” pardon from the “MR & Co. Inc.” He is now moving out of his Hambantota “hide” to Badulla – a safe “Heaven”, he believes to be. In my opinion, he (Sajith) is “NO LEADER” to be either a “President” or “Leader of the Opposition”. All these “Leadership” positions he “FORCED” upon himself and not “OFFERED” on him . That itself is enough of proof of his lack of “Leadership” and “Gentleman” qualities to be a “Leader”.

“Do you expect this Sajith to “Perform” in it’s true sense in the office of Leader of the Opposition?”

      No.

“How many times on how many “National Issues” he contributed his “Two Cents” worth while being in the Government and as a Minister?”

      None that I know of.

“Perhaps, now you have conveyed “Congratulations” would remember many such instances.”

There are many questions he would not dare answer.
He is a new broom hence my wishes. Let him enjoy his honeymoon period.

I know he too believe in competitive racism which he could not match the Rajapaksas.
Just before the elections I questioned his liberal credentials, educational qualifications (not that I care), generally I wanted to know what new ideas, concepts policies, …. except highlighting period poverty issue, etc was he bringing to the table.

The only asset he has claimed to have brought to the elections was his brand name Premadasa even that didn’t work in his favour.
      Poor boy.

Well it appears he is another mummy’s boy.

Now the media has to hype/promote him being the greatest ever opposition leader of this island which will make Mahinda in the eyes of the public more heroic than any other past prime minister of this island.

Whether you agree or not with our past opposition leaders please revisit their life and time .

Have you seen or heard from Basil the 10 – 30%?

    Dear Sajith,
You have an opportunity to give a good opposition leadership while restructuring the UNP. As it is you have to keep the strength of parliament majority to make sure that Gota and Mahinda misuse the power and to promote racism in the parliament election. Gota is trying to play good boy acting until parliament election. That is why he is implementing few things what you have promised to do in your campaign. By doing this he proved that he is fully against too Mahinda. They want to get two third majority in parliament to change the 19th amendment ignorer to get full powers to President and change the constitution to hand over the power to Namal Rajapakse. Gota promised to stop all the signed agreements with China and I don’t thing he can do that because the debt to China cannot be returned soon. He may say we are talking to China to cheat Sinhala. Now he got a loan from India and India is not fool to give this unless it gives benefit to them. Gota did not have translator and nobody knows what agreement he made with Modi. That was another betrayal of Mahinda Family. You need talented people to expose all the wrongs they do. Use wisely and taking the truth to the Sinhala people and change those who were fallen victims for their racist propaganda.

    —-

Btw I read that the present government is planning on going green , it’s the best thing that can happen to Sri Lanka , but am not happy to see it only to start off with Hambantota , I would rather be over joyed to see a complete and immediate robust program happening simultaneously Island wide and there is no way anyone can say it can not be done , with so many different offices of admintrations like pradaysheyas , palaths , UCS and City Councils, it can be implemented over night.

If we want to end floods , earth slips, posdible future Earth Quakes and Tsunamis in Sri Lanka.
We must soon find an alternative and end Urbanisation

We are an agrarian society and we have already caused irrepairable damage by urbanization , even villages are been torn apart by this,
It’s time to come up with a solution to preserve our heavenly villages from Urbanization and turing them into concrete urban cities , Apartments must be streamlined to certain part of the Islands .

All provinces must have everything what Colombo has and there should be zero need for people to travel to Colombo , not even to seek employment or business, from.NiC cards, passparts , purchases of every need , healthcare care, entertainment, imports , exports, best of Schools to sports, etc should all be available in each and every province ,so people can live a healthy , comfortable life in the Luxary within their villages among family and friends.

This unregulated and badly planned Islandwide urbanization of this once exclusive agrarian society has brought lot of suffering to the people and if it an urgent alternative is not found the future will no doubt bring a huge disaster that no human can alter .

There is Democratic norms of Island that accountability and responsibility that undertaken by New Opposition Leader of Parliament during 1977 of that ruthless regime rule UNP of that JRJ and Ransianghe Premadas until 1993 May 1st ?
Since 1977, 79, 81 and 1983 there was killed of 3000 Tamils national by The Party of UNP there was that an accountability is going to who?
Is killed Tamils by UAN of going to undertaken by Sajit of P…as Leader of Opposition ?
By the way of Jaffna Library was fired and burned b in 1981 by UNP of at that time few of leaders in Jaffna. How was that UNP become liberator of Tamils national in Lanka.
The wisdom is that Tamils nationals are voted for UNP leader of Opposition that Sajith Premadasa in 2019 November 16th ?
    Is that historic error!

Some say he should have allowed Ranil to become Leader of the opposition, which after all has been his life long ambition and instead seek UNP party leadership. The Opposition leader must attend parliament regularly and at best can only ask a few questions and become a minor irritant to the Government. This leaves little time and energy to rebuild the party which has taken a beating and must revamp if it plans a better showing and the General Election.

I am shocked to hear the new Government has abolished the licence for sand and other mineral mining.
Which means any Tom., Dick and Harry can now dregede our riverbeds until all the bridges collapse ?
I expected The New President to do a complete survey to determind the approximate demand of consumption and then ban dredging and replace with human labour so the poor people will have an income and the entire mining could be regulated and monitored to protect our enviorment.
    Extremely dissapointed .
Where are the JVPs ,? I hardly see them voicing for the protection of our Enviorment.

Ranil remains leader of the UNP. How interesting, he can sit back and watch Sajith dig himself into a hole…and continue digging. Ranil can wait, and not be tired by waiting.
    Can dream and make dreams his master;
    Can think—and make thoughts his aim;
Can meet with disaster after disaster
And treat the Grand Old Party just the same
    ……..and so on.

Native Vedda: You asked me: “Have you seen or heard from Basil 10-30%” YES. The latest is the campaign “INITIATED” by him to “ABOLISH” the “19th Amendment” and to do that this Government must secure 2/3rd majority. Already, Kiriella of UNP has been consulted and the exchange of “”Opinion” is welcoming. The President has already started “Echoing” this campaign. Why, you might ask me again. To save space and another comment in reply, here is the answer: This “19th” is the obstacle for him to enter the Parliament and also to establish a “DYNASTY” rule for “Rajapakse”. Don’t forget, he was a UNP man and still has a good backing from the “Siri Kotha”. This “Sajith Kid” is no importance to him. “Sajith” is “Kunu Karawala” (Rotten Dry Fish) to him. He knows what to do. If not for him, this “POHOTTU” party would not have come into being in 2018 with landslide victory of Local Government elections and will continue to be victorious until UNP and all other political outfits are made a “NON ENTITIES”. That is the way for the “30%” to be revised to what level is your imagination.

The Geological department has been on sleep mode for nearly 30 years .
They have a duty to go village to village ,house to house , on all media’s using all three languages to educate the people
What the hell , are we blind ? What is wrong with all of us ? Every year we can see clearly our Enviormental disastors have only gotten worst , our garbage piling and plastic issues have become more unbearable.
What kind d of hypocrisy is this ?
If no one cares , fine! , most probably the older folks won’t be around , it’s you The young who are the future custodians of this land who will Suffer, do not curse us over our graves if you do not react today.

    I remember seeing a cartoon , possibly on Ravaya , depicting J R J placing
a set of two horns over the head of R to grace the occasion of
handing over the nomination of R Premadasa the presidential candidacy ,
and in my memory the cartoonist was Vini Hettigoda . The memory gets
freshened up with the episode of Ranil being the nephew of J R J placing
the same kind of object over the head of Sajith the son of R P , under same
kind of a situation . It was a tense situation when Premadasa wanted to
lead the party and the only difference then was , Gamini and Lalith were
standing in the way ! Everything else thereafter is history and surely
it repeats now ! I am a neutralist here , no sides on personal preference
but fact is fact . In 2005 , by how much Ranil lost , to become a registered
loser ever since , opposed to Sajith’s loss today ? There’s very simple
maths here in my calculation . It is just TWO LOSERS AGAINST one winner !
The president is already elected , BY THE PEOPLE and already people have
a good memory of two party coalition governance that ended up in a
    mad house !

With all the unpardonable blunders committed during their tenure as rulers, abused power, corruptions to the core, ruined the name of UNP hence making allergic to people. What more! even in the final moment of the race for the presidential race, Ranil delayed naming the candidate in order to ensure the victory of Gota. Played double trouble game of Artful Dodger with his crookish associates Ravi et al.
