UNP Sets Course For Solo Government, Shrugs Off Karu-Killi-Maithri Spoiler Efforts

The rank and file of the United National Party (UNP) and parliamentary back-benchers have pledged support to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and urged him to form a new UNP government in the midst of moves by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to position himself to take over the premiership with the support of President Maithripala Sirisena.

Sirisena, who had earlier pushed for Wickremesinghe’s resignation, had told a group of UNP MPs that he was willing to replace Wickremesinghe with Jayasuriya as the Prime Minister. Colombo Telegraph reliably learns that the attempt to foist Jayasuriya in the Prime Minister’s seat was pushed by his son-in-law and UNP MP Navin Dissanayake and Killi Rajamahendran, the owner of the Capital Maharaja Organization and a close confidante of President Sirisena. According to sources they had told Sirisena that Jayasuriya could muster the support of around 30 UNP MPs.

Rajamahendran has used his television stations to continuously attack Wickremesinghe. Even as the results of the recently concluded local government elections were being released Sirasa TV devoted a panel discussion to blame Wickremesinghe for the by then obvious defeat of the UNP.

UNP stalwarts as well as back-benchers and loyalists who agitated outside Temple Trees have argued that Sirisena has no right to talk about the UNP and its leadership since his party received just over 12% of the total votes cast. Colombo Telegraph reliably learns that the overwhelming majority of Parliamentary group and Working Committee members of the party concur with this position.

This is not the first time that Jayasuriya has tried to oust Wickremesinghe. Various coup attempts against Wickremesinghe over the years have resulted in inglorious defeats.

One such attempt saw him bribe news websites to get political milage and position himself as the Common Candidate of the Opposition at the last Presidential Election.

On October 23, 2014, Karu Jayasuriya telephoned the Colombo Telegraph editor and offered him a monthly payment of Rs. 50,000 ‘in appreciation of the work that Colombo Telegraph does’. Jayasuriya did not state for how long this payment was to be made. The issue did not arise because the editor politely declined the offer. Furthermore, the editor reminded Jayasuriya that it was he who interviewed Jayasuriya when the latter first came into politics in 1995. At that point, Jayasuriya told the journalist that he hoped to work towards strengthening independent media. The Colombo Telegraph editor pointed out to Jayasuriya that his media entity functioned as an independent one and said he did not need any money.

One week after the aforementioned phone call, Karu jayasuriya was given a lot of prominence in several websites. They even ran fake opinion polls to show that Jayasuriya was more popular than Ranil Wickremesinghe, who was then the Opposition Leader. They suggested that Jayasuriya was a ‘better choice’ than Wickremesinghe to run for Presidency in 2015.

These developments compelled Colombo Telegraph to question whether he made similar offers to those websites in appreciation of the work they do or for any other reason.

I have often blamed Ranil Wickramasinghe for many things but the private media under mention has tainted itself as totally biased and the ‘underdog’ _ the Premier now earns my sympathy as a result.

Rw may have many faults but replacing Ranil with Karu J is a poor joke. KJ was easily the worst Speaker in living memory.

I totally agree with Justice & Fairplay.
Karu is the worst speaker of the parliament in the history of Sri Lanka parliament.
He is weak and unable to control the members in the parliament during debates etc.
He is not fit to be the PM of Sri Lanka.

His son-in-law, Naveen Dissanayake after resigning from MR govt. made the following statement in press conference on 2 Dec. 2014.
“We know and the Urban Development Authority too knows that a killo meter of road construction costs only $2 million. The President (MR), as the Minister of Highways should tell the country how the cost of constructing kilo meter of road increased from $2 million to $16 million.”

Serious allegations but to date nothing has been proved by Naveen.
If he knows the faacts and figures, why didn’t he provided the information to FCID?
Is he playing the same game to promote his father-in-Law?

        Sir,
Both UNP and SLFP are rotten corpses. By their very nature, they do not house the talent, qualities, charisma, we seek in a potential future leader, who can unite us and move the nation forward. If RW is to be ousted and KJ is ruled out as weak, then Sajith P and Navin D should become PM? Is this a NIGHTMARE? These guys are in politics, running a lucrative family business their Dads started. These guys cannot run a tiny chicken farm. Are we so bankrupt of HUMAN RESOURCES to entrust our future to these JOKERS? What have these DUDES proven so far, except being LUCKY SPERM to aspire to such high office? NOTHING!
        Cheers!
PS: If Mafia Killi manages to put Maria Kade Sajith P in there, we could all become GOD DAMNED SECURITY GUARDS. How tall are you?

Sirasa and its so called panel of experts with no qualifications of a tangible nature who appear on THE most biased, talk show on Sri Lankan TV hosted by a physically and egotistically over bloated individual with the makings of being the lap dog of the owner of Capital Maharaja Group is a disdain to professional media journalism.

Sirasa is not a media institution it has differnet interest to promote it business . From day 1 it promoted Sajith and failed miserabaliy. Now another bafoon who tainted himself for going behind MR to stengthen his hand came back after receving verbal barrage from basil. Ranil is much better but he has to get rid of his friends who put him in this position today.

Karu Jayasuriya is not new blood.

      Good job Colombo Telegraph!
Now work on proving how a totally legal bond trade that was turned into this so called “Bond Scam” that was created to attack and tarnish Ranil Wickremesinghe in hopes of de popularizing him enough to make a Rajapaksas come me back possible! (If your journalists don’t know how the trade works they might want to consult an international expert) better not to unknowingly be pulled into someone else’s agenda. It would be sad to learn the truth after the damage is done and we unknowingly play a part in bringing back a Fascist Dictator!

      1. They knew the nature and complexity of the bond trade was not known by the masses so it’s easy to mislead them and believe this carefully crafted lie.

      2. Where and how did this bond scam originate?

      3. What was the motivates of the mastermind/s behind this?

      4. Who were the major media institutions repeatedly giving publicity to burn it into the minds of the citizens of our country while not focusing on any of the Rajapaksas crimes?

      5. Was this an attempt to slander Ranil and pressurize him into dropping the investigations into the Rajapaksas Criminal Network?

      6. Is someone trying to oust Ranil to instal a more manipulatable leader or one that would be suited to their agenda?

We want responsible journalism please. If you find out without a doubt there was something criminal about the bond transaction in question then do share with the public.

        Sunil,
I have been continuously challenging all the “experts” on this forum to come up with credible figures about this alleged Bond Scam, but nobody has obliged, except for repeating stale lies from Sirasa.
The only obviously illegal thing about it was the use of insider information, and the bribing of Ravi Karunanayaka.
We need something like OFCOM in the UK, to make sure that media does not mix in their agendas and opinions with the news.

Sunil another example of a brainless UNP follower. For god’s sake have you not followed the proceedings of the Bond Commission. Even if you don’t know anything about Bonds please take the trouble to read the Commission recommendations at least. The members of the commission were independent jurists without any political affiliations and appointed by YAHAPALANAYA. The bondcommission has recommended criminal charges against some of the people involved, Aloysius is remanded not for kissing his wife in public but for stealing from the Central Bank through this fraud. This is insider trading and illegal market manipulation that has occurred. You may be an ignorant, rustic, blind UNP follower but thereRe people other than you who are better informed and are vigilant.

          Percy,
If you are so well informed about the workings of CB bonds, please list out exactly how much the CB is “losing” per year.
Aloysius may be remanded, but the only provable charge against him is bribery (of Ravi K)
As for the commission being independent, maybe so, but did they really understand the process? I think not.

        EXCELLENT points Sunil!
Also, we must understand the workings of the DEEP STATE & its GESTAPO which is calling the shots which was established before the independence and with a special team network of Govigama Crime Syndicate members that included almost all the “PROMINENT SINHALA BUDDHIST LAWYERS” at the time. D.S., BANDA, JR, W.A.D. SILVA, A.E. GUNASINGHE, WIJETUNGE, DON CAROLIS, WIJEWARDENE, GUNAWARDENES….etc. The 21st century team still has the founding members progeny run business magnets and media moguls protecting and covering up for their members to continue the DESTRUCTION of the CEYLON or LANKA which has been transformed from a renowned and much envied nation state during the 50’s into a total garbage full of filth. Maithree is a GOVI criminal who showed openly that he will turn his back on the verdict given by the masses in 2015 by electing him as the President. I mean, how would a GOVI member catch another GOVIYA for the crimes committed. Brotherhood and their secret agenda is more important to him than saving a country that they do not actually belong to. Govigama criminals are Telungu origin criminals coming from a Brahmin/Jewish lineage. Hence, they are thick racists.

In my book, the following were the main reasons for Ranil’s popularity decline.

      1. Despite it being the prime concern of all concerned citizens at the time, by applying a lethargic approach towards the investigations against corruption, murder and disappearances which happened during the previous administration, Ranil visibly did little to expedite matters, and in fact, allowed unfettered, the spread of the impression that he was possibly impeding the progress in such investigations. Consequently, he failed add to his growing and glowing reputation as a result.

      2. Allowing unfettered trade union action under the name of “democracy” to a point where the general public was seriously inconvenienced.

      3. Not acting smartly and decisively enough, during the various bond allegations, and not distancing himself sufficiently from those who were – in one way or the other – implicated. This was damaging..

      4. (a). Harbouring too many inefficient and fossilized “seniors” as front line men, and too few of the capable young men, who should have profitably apprenticed under Ranil’s watch, for the continuance of the dynamism of the party into the future..

4 (b). Leaving out the likes of Eran Wickrematunge and Harsha de Silva from being front line Ministers.

      5. Not instilling sufficiently enough, the need for financial probity among his ministers. The attempts at ‘defending’ the indefensible, was clearly evident.

That said, he is the most well informed, modern thinking, universally acceptable and economically best informed among the leaders we have had in the last 25 years. He is also endowed with immense patience and ability to absorb criticism – often virulent – without feeling the need to retaliate. Those are the hallmarks of a very civilized man.

Ranil should change and then continue to lead. At this juncture, there is none to replace him or even come close.

I agree with Justice & FairPlay.
Ranil is the only remaining decent politician that people can rely that the march towards anarchy is halted at some point. Although, Ranil is belonging to the Govigama Crime Syndicate, he can be trusted at least 70% that he will not give into the GOVIGAMA SECRET AGENDA of destroying the Muslims, after they have destroyed the TAMILS with their 70 years old SINHALA ONLY MAFIA Plan in inciting violence against the minority thereby creating the ground work to cause a CLASH by the Govi controlled Sinhala Racist outfits led by JHU. The concluded ELECTION is a FARCE and its the latest plot of the GOVI PSY OP specially designed to mind-control the Sinhala masses who are poor in intelligence are weak in identifying the DEEP STATE MANIPULATION and its DECEPTIONS. The GOVI CRIME SYNDICATE has an issue about the future leadership to take control of the state and the power structure which they been SUCCESSFULLY corrupted throughout a span of 70 years from the time of Independence. in 1948, Ceylon was a vibrant nation with no debts to anyone with powerful agro based economy and almost self sufficient in so many ways. The Govi criminals HATE RULE OF LAW to be the apex of governance. They do not like everyone be enjoying EQUALITY. Because, the GOVIGAMA do not belong to the native Sinhala race but are a bunch of treacherous criminals/infiltrators coming from a Telungu origin with a Brahmin/Judaic ANCESTRY purposefully invented by the BRITISH/West as ‘GOVIGAMA” to be used as a CRYPTO community to infiltrate, to spy and to destroy the natives and the other original inhabitants in order to bring about the New World Order (a 500 years old project of the Freemasonry) to enslave the masses through manipulation and de-population. They invent WARS and conflicts. Tamil/ Sinhala warfare is one of those. Latest being the JHU promoted Anti-Muslim/Anti Islamic warfare carried out through the state and its apparatus.

Yo Percy, by the same token, why its difficult to call the Rajapaksas, and other Govi criminals and their minions to call Robbers? Are they any different from these guys? Almost all of them, the politicians and their leaders stole the country from the beginning right? For the entirety of their lives they would not have done anything for the country but robberies and killings and coming out scot free as the entire system is run by the Govi bastards. Don’t talk about the War Victory…. It was an engineered problem created by elite Govi masters to keep the dumb Sinhala population fighting endless wars and conflicts. Because, the system is not been designed to take anyone other than a Govi to rule the still British owned territory called (the fake) Sri-lankan entity. Buddhism is a weapon they have been using to fear mongering tool and a rallying technique to manipulate the Sinhalese to fight the non existant enemies. The enemies are them…. the Govi….

Hey, CT Editors seems that you are pro-Bond Scam Ranil who should be impeached for Grand Larceny and destroying the Central Bank as an institution?!

Karu would be a far better PM and is clearly the best solution to the current crisis. Ranil and his gang of theives, Malik, Lakshman Kiriella the highway robber, Akila the insurance scaemer, Senasinghe the fraud and Foot note man Harsha and Eran need to go, before the economy of Lanka is destroyed and land and sea resources sold off to the US, India and China.
Bond man Ranil should have been impeached long ago and should share a Prison Cell with Mahinda Jarapassa and Basil for crimes against the people of Lanka.
Ranil and MR clearly have a pact to monopolize power in the Miracle of Modayas as long as they live.

If Sirisena tries to blame UNP and still keeps covering all the financial frauds and cold blooded murders of the last govt he can enjoy the next two years after that he is politically done. What will happen to SLFP after the next election will be what happened to TULF.

New government under RW, Kabir, Malik leadership (if it is formed) will definitely wipe their criminal activities slate clean. All crooks including themselves will be forgiven and released. Why do you think this mad scramble to form governments: only to deceive the people into believing that there are no crooks or guilty ones for the mega bank robbery. These people will even rewrite the concept of karma, such crooks. Quite literally, only a thunderbolt from the sky will remove them from their miserable existence.

Out of the Local, Provincial, Central Government’s if lately in one level a party lost election and if the party has to leave all level governments and have to have election, say the lost party is winning the new election, will other party give up its recent victory on the other level? If UNP, SLFP,JVP & TNA backing up New King and he comes back in the new election, will Slap party be agree to accept that it has lost the moral authority to from Local Council and would forgo its victory in Local government election.

The truth is, Slap Part’s entire talk is Thero Kind logic.

I predicted this to happen, if you people have a look at the sirasa pathikada shit where they interviewed navin , the latter was all praise for kili, i mean come on you have a channel that is blasting your party and leader and navin’s actions were like justifying them. Sirasa’s sudden love interest towards and navin’s sudden love marriage to kili is treason. Coming back to karu, wow this man is a failed JUDAS x 10. The people should reference Karu from now on instead of Judas or Brutus. Mark my words if Ranil goes which is what Sirasa wants, the UNP will disintegrate as useless Karu or the other potential useless Sajith cannot hold it together. I mean come on guys do we really want to give in to this notorious media channel and want a karu/premadasa era?

However yes, if Ranil does step down from leadership he has many options to choose as his replacement – Harin, Harsha, Ruwan with probably Sujeewa as deputy.

The list is very long.Duminda Silva, Omar Kamil, Karu Arjuna Mahendran, Ajith Dias,, Suren Ratwatta are a prominent few. Pathikada of Sirasa should be renamed as PATHI GATH KADAYA

RWs wrong in getting Mahendran as Governor and he compounded it by not sacking him within hours of the Bond Scam appearing.

Karu is not the man to replace RW. It should be left for the Party to decide and a younger person, not necessarily Sajith should be elected.

HOWEVER, move Killi as far as possible from the scene. That is paramount.

Around 2002 . 2004 there was a bill passed in parliament to restructure CEB and all parties including Unions agreed . This was hailed by the experts such as World Bank as one of the best sold a nd accepted .change processes. CEB was to be broken to Genertion , Trensmissiion distribution etc. The costs then would have been managed better.e,g LECO has a better distribution loss than CEB .

The bill was passed in parliament and need3ed Misiter Jayasuriya signature . This man listened to the then GM who was losing his power and KJ did not sign the doc . Rest is history.

He tried a fast one whe 2002 ,, 04 governent which resulted in CBK ditching U N P . He is one useless soul .

Yes in the period 2002-2004 he was busy conspiring against Ranil working with Managala, CBK, and a few others (not sure if MaRa was involved) rather than work at the energy and power ministry. Ask Mangala if this is correct.

Stingy bugger.Mahinda would have offered 500000 at least up front.the hambantota rascals are more practical.Good on you CT for making this public. Now anyone will think twice when they offer bribes.

Replacing RW with karu is a joke. This is the guy who defected to mahinda and was blagaded in filth and came back.No sir we have to do a complete overhaul of the UNP,not a cosmetic lip tuck.Anyway he is too old.It is like making rangana herath the test captain without developing someone else.

rank and file supporting RW is a another joke, unless the rank and file are not members of the srilankan public or something. If you go round the country and ask whther RW should go then yu will find out the answer.

Lets get rid of the laughing gas and get down to serious matters because it is not a laughing matter to bring back to power killers and murderers and nepotism and corruption in a mega scale,Now at least we don’t have the killers and murderers part of it though the rest is still there maybe as sirisena says even on a more bigger scale.

What has to be done is all card carrying members of the UNP have to be given an opportunity to select the leaders.Leader cannot be selected by a few from the elite. The impression is that the UNP is a party of the elite for the elite. That has to change first. So have a election and get the votes of all the members of the UNP,then we will know whther the rank and file too support RW.I personally if i was a UNP member(which i am not) will vote for ranjan ramanayake or arjuna ranatunge.

there is no doubt that the unp has to ditch ranil who has ruined the good name of the unp with the bond scam
shielding the rajapaksas to divide the slfp has proved a total failure resulting in a massive defeat
but replacing him with a weakling like karu will only make matters worse

I have written about Maharaja Org trying to kick Ranil out. Maharaja TV has nothing else to talk about other than about the Bond issue. The funny thing is all the media persons who are part of the questioning team in political debates never Fact Check when lies are told by the participants, only person who at times does fact check is Ranatunga. Worst of all is Ranga, the guy who jumped ship from supporting UNP during the day and visiting Mahinda during the night. Its time any new Government that is to be formed should make it compulsory that all political debates to have independent Fact Checkers as part of the panel. Sri Lanka under Yahpalana Govt got media freedom, unfortunately neither the Media nor the voters know what true media freedom is. The media thinks Media Freedom means they can promote their own agenda and do not care if they promote truth or not. Voters on the other hand do not have the understanding to evaluate what is told is the truth or not. So it is the duty of the Government, until both groups mature to understand what true Media Freedom is, Fact Checkers should be in all political debates.

You are right Ranga is a typical wheeler dealer. His loyalty is only to himself, and assumes that those who view his Minnal program are gullible idiots.

This shambolic situation will never improve.
Let us not forget that this arose because of the creation of language/religion-divide. SLPP used this to gain control of LG. We must wait and see BR pushing over MR.
We will all pay the price.

Because of the despicable manner of attack with personal agenda of Killi, it was unbearable for me to watch Sirasa TV anymore and I have decided to switch over my viewership to other channels that are unbiased and fair-minded. Personal drawbacks apart, Ranil needs to be respected for his vision for the country, international profile and what he can achieve for the country with good rapport from the outside world. The way he so far managed to get out of the shackle of the burden of indebtedness with promises for a brighter future is commendable and can only be understood by those who have a broad perspective of looking at things without falling prey to cheap gimmicks. This is only a temporary set back for the UNP and we must be patient. Let the law take its course and put the rogue Rajapaksas behind bars one by one and only that would wean away the uneducated villagers without political intelligence from the enticement of the Rajapaksas and make them understand reality. Let us be patient till that happens. Nihal

Each generation imagines itself to be more intelligent than that one went before it.

We need to understand that we as citizens and as a government in any community throughtout this country have no more important obligation than to educate those who young are going to replace

The experience of the politicians we had seen no growth/compatible comparing to
rate of development when seeing with other countries.

Bangladesh development growth is a success story.

Some channels are biased. UNP still formidble in govt. or opposition could mobilize their rank and file to boycott such channels. I have not watched Sirasa for 4 years.
