UNP Unanimously Backs Ranil As Nominee For PM Post: Letters Sent To Sirisena And Sampanthan

The United National Party has formally informed President Maithripala Sirisena that the UNP nominates its leader Ranil Wickremesinghe for the Prime Minister’s position.

This comes after the Tamil National Alliance informed President Sirisena that the party will support the United National Party’s nominee for the Prime Minister’s post. The same letter has been sent to TNA Leader R. Sampanthan.

The letter, signed by UNP Chairman Kabir Hashim, has been sent to both parties yesterday.

With 14 TNA MPs pledging support to UNP’s nominee for the Prime Minister’s position, Wickremesinghe now officially commands the support of 117 MPs in Parliament. All UNP MPs, at the parliamentary group meeting earlier this week, unanimously decided to back Wickremesinghe as the party’s nominee for the Prime Ministerial post.

Sirisena, at a meeting with United National Front party leaders last night at the Presidential Secretariat, reiterated that he will not reappoint UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister. He said he was willing to appoint any other MP of the UNP in the position. It is not immediately clear if Sirisena was aware of the UNP’s letter to him at the time he addressed the meeting with the UNF party leaders.

    And the deadlock will continue…

Maithripala is marking time with scheduling meetings to resolve the issue, leading every one up the garden path till Friday the 7th obviously he is confident that the judgement will be in his favour. Trust me the CDS arrest is a red herring to give hope to the masses that the Courts are turning to be Independent, so that when the judgement is delivered in Sirisena’s favour, the public can not cry foul then. After that the Courts will grant bail and acquit the CDS due to insufficient evidence or the Investigating Officer being a Tamil although he has a Sinhala name now have concocted the evidence. The CDS will be given a good Diplomatic posting for the short inconvenience. This is something similar to DIG Nalaka Silva speaking over the phone to Namal kumara of assassinating the Prez knowing very well that he will be hauled. This assassination story will be ammunition for the General Election in Jan or Feb 2019 which they hope to win hook or by crook. If they win DIG Nalaka Silva too will be given a good cash reward and a top Diplomatic posting.

Best thing Sira ever did was Sack Bondscam Ranil who should have been impeached for looting the Central bank and destroying the economy when the PCOI report came out.
        Better late than never!

Bondscam Ranil must share the same prison cell with Mahinda Jarapassa, his partner in crime whom he protected for past 3.5 years, and with whom he turned the Parliament into a Cesspit of Corruption, moneypolitics and horse-trading –as leaders of UNP and SLFP.

Time for new generation of leaders to take over these corrupt political parties.

      UNP and Parliament MPs,

RE: UNP Unanimously Backs Ranil As Nominee For PM Post: Letters Sent To Sirisena And Sampanthan

Very good. Now Sirisena. who took unconstitutional action, in the middle of the night , to appoint the Fake PM, MaRa, will have to eat crow.

Sirisena should not be allowed to get away with the unconstitutional action. This no longer about Ranil, Sirisena or MaRa. It is about the constitution,.

They all took oaths to defend the Constitution. Both Sirisena and MaRa have abused the constitution, and should be taken to task for that.

      • 1
        11

        Absolutely Not.
The question of constitutionality is yet to be decided.
Ranil was a PM of a minority government.

        It is all about Ranil.
        UNP has lost its values!
Remember, Mangala Samaraweera co-sponsored a resolution against Sri Lanka. He is a traitor.
Ranil hijacked a good party and made a mockery of democracy (the leader of the opposition has been from a minority party on two occasions when UNP was in power)

Rajapaksha is NO saint. It is Rajapaksha who can stabilise the country now.

If Sirisena did not remove Ranil, further assets sales would have occurred.
Ranil does not serve Sri Lanka – it is the new liberal agenda. Far better for Karu Jasuriya or Sajith to come forward.

Sri Lankans will continue to work as waiters, cooks and in small jobs while international capitalists run the country. A good example is Argentina. Toll roads are owned by US – all revenue to USA. Our highways are the same.

Any day let local Sri Lankans own assets.
India is a good example to follow – local industries thrive now. Foreigners were allowed to come in later.
Even US wants to keep Chinese goods out of US. Serve your country first.

Ranil would have sold the whole country if he stayed on.

Ranil and the UNP must convene a meeting of all anti UNP persons such as Sunil here and suchlike , and present the problem the country is faced with and ask THEM for the solution.

It is essential that all segments of society -particularly those opposing the then government be presented with the problem and asked for the solution.

Maybe then the virulent critics will understand.

You have to follow the constitution. do your assigned job, and that is why you were made to take an oath on. It has nothing to do with your persona;l preferences, but some MP who commands the majority in Parliament. However, you have turned out to a Traitor, Quisling.

UNP should hold firm and if this is resolved and Ranil made PM the next move should be to impeach the President. This will automatically push Ranil into the seat of the President as the sitting PM until the next election for President. The parliamentary elections come way before that and UNP can decide on a new candidate for PM.
By the time the next Presidential election comes around Ranil can contest or retire from active politics and take on a social mission to still serve the country.

With about 46 years of experience, Maithiripala Sirisena should not be childish in refusing to appoint Eanil Wickremasinghe as the PM. If he refuses then he should resign and allow Karu Jayasooriya to act for him in accordance of the Constitution. Creating an unnecessary split within the UNP by the President amounts to an uncivilized and undemocratic act. He should realize that the country is eagerly awaiting Ranil Wickremasinghe to be nominated as PM who will restore democracy in its true perspective.

      UNP and the MPs,

Stick to your guns. Let Sirisena, the Traitor, Quisling, eat crow. Wait for the final decision on Dec 7th, by the Supreme Court, to nullify the unconstitutional action, and expose him. There are rumors that Sirisena, the Sevalaya Sleaze is trying to roll back the gazette notification, dissolving the Parliament.

Wait until, the 7th, and make the Supreme court Sirisena, the dissolution of Parliament as unconstitutional. Then use this and the illegal appointment of the Fake PM, MaRa as the basis for an impeachment motion on Sirisena,

This is the time for MaRa and cronies to get even, They may vote for the impeachment. or abstain.

Bondscam Ranil who is Washington’s lead Economic Hit Man in Sri Lanka must be impeached for looting the Central Bank, causing loss of FDI because no honest investor would invest in a corrupt financial environment and putting Lanka into a debt trap to US linked Sovereign Bond traders and speculators who own 55% of Lanka’s debt along with 25 % owned by US proxy ADB and Japan, and crashing the rupee.

IMF looked the other way to all the bond scams and those CSE pump and dump traders named Panama Papers who are responsible for Lanka’s massive external and internal debt causing bondscams.
Meanwhile, Trumpland’s neo-Con Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) which drafted Bondscam Ranil’s Economic policy and “Vision 2025” and was intent on asset stripping lands and strategic transport and energy sector infrastructure, and data platforms in strategically located Sri Lanka, for Washington’s Cold War against China has suspended its Fake aid program to benefit Bondscam Ranil and his cronies . MCC Compact was designed over past 3.5 years to benefit “America First” and the Global 1 percent and ha, ha, ha they now say that:
“Discussions on the aid would now resume only after the constitutional crisis in Sri Lanka is restored through democratic means.
“We are concerned about the extra-constitutional steps that President Sirisena has taken,” the senior administration official told PTI. has said that:

What for another election? What purpose? Will make the country more chaotic and unstable. No need to waste of money big time and exhaust all resources on a bunch of fools, playouts and thus who come to do politics, just like another business, just to serve and help themselves, not the people nor the nation at large. Democracy can still function and survive with just 2 or maximum 3 elections within well defined time period, for a small country like ours. Those who get elected at PS and at the local level are usually shameless misfits, who turnout as bullies who turn out to become ‘Chandiyas’, rowdies, drug dealers and even downright vagabonds and convicted murderers. History has shown us this phenom over and over again. The extremely low quality candidates we have to put up with is an insult to our basic instincts and intelligence. How long further down the road do we have to carry on this way, simply to.see our country go to pieces?

Well, this is OK to restore the status quo pre Oct 28th. But Ranil and the UNP must be realistic, pragmatic and honest. They must then replace Ranil asap with somebody who will appeal to the masses and begin building their voter base for the next general elections. Ranil with his vast experience and knowledge of politics must remain as an adviser/consultant/guide/mentor. My hope is that Sajith will be his successor.

BTW what ails the AG’s Dept? In most of the cases the FCID/CID complains to the judge that they have submitted all info to the AG but have had not response. The AG has promised to appeal Johnston’s acquittal. Has he? Namal’s case has been postponed to april 2019! Basil’s cases? Lalith Weeratunge & co? All of them laugh, snigger and sneer as they come out of court. What the heck is happening? What are the other cases which the special high courts are hearing? There are 3 such courts?

Parliament is not Appa Sira’s grandfather’s property. Appa Sira must respect the Constitution (law).

It is unequivocally clear that on 26 October 2018 Ranil was the only person that commanded the confidence of the Members of the Parliament. On that day Ranil had satisfied Article 43 (3) of the Constitution.

Appa Sira sacked Ranil on the basis of his personal dislike of Ranil, which has absolutely nothing to do with the law. It has no relevance to Article 43 (3) of the Constitution.

By these UNP letters of today (1 December 2018), Ranil is showing that he still commands the confidence of the majority of the MPs of the parliament.

Appa Sira is now duty bound to honour Article 43 (3) of the Constitution. Appa Sira MUST re appoint Ranil as the PM immediately.

If he does not re-appoint Ranil would still automatically becomes the Prime Minister, upon resignation of Mahinda. So the best thing is for Mahinda to resign voluntarily, then Ranil will resume that seat automatically regardless of Appa Sira’s opposition.

This is because what Appa Sira did was invalid (null and void). The term null and void (void ab initio) means ‘to be treated as invalid from the outset’. Under the law of equity, this means restoration of the status quo. Again, basically, Appa Sira does not need to re-appoint Ranil as the Prime Minister, Ranil will resume that seat automatically upon the resignation of Mahinda Rajapakse (restoration of the status quo per law in equity).

If Mahinda would not resign, Ranil or UNP should go to Court, they could easily obtain a Declaration to this effect – that Mahinda’s illegal appointment is quashed and Ranil, afterwards, would resume the Prime Minister post (automatically). The fundamental to this reasoning is that on 26 October 2018, Appa Sira was involved in an INVALID ACT. He acted contrary to Article 43 (3) of the Constitution.

This is the right thing to do at a time like this. If the Polonnaruwe Palaya is so stubborn so be the UNP. People should keep the President in his right place as now he is acting like a superman. I am not sure he is aware of the consequences he will have to face for violating the Constitution intentionally. Even Mahinda Rajapaksha did every dirty thing taking Constitution as cover. This Polonnaruwe Donkey is dancing on Constitution like a small kid who doesn’t have any knowledge of responsibility.

Per my (layman) understanding of the 19th amendment, MS’s appointment of MR as PM and his dissolution of Parliament (sub judice) are both illegal and unconstitutional. The former action too should be challenged in Courts (if not already done so). But it is noteworthy, per 1st NCM on 14 October, the Parliament has passed a motion to the effect that that appointment of a new PM is illegal. That motion is ‘supreme’ and cannot be challenged in a court of law. The only way it can be challenged is by presenting a motion to that effect in Parliament and having it passed. MS too cannot challenge it. It is in Hansards. Therefore, legally and constitutionally, the pre 26 October position (automatically) has been restored. But due to its nuances, the Speaker appears to have handed over this duty of appointing a new PM to MS. If MS does not discharge his duties in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, the only option is to challenge it in a Court of Law. It is also possible to impeach him in Parliament.

The worry is that Sirisena does not acknowledge the gravity of the problem. UNP bought the opposition 16 TNA MPs and 6 JVP MPs plus two from SLPP. That is how the 122 comes. So, the two govt parties and the minorities making the deciding part may be some NGO pay master trick for the future to man handle the majority. So, Tamils are over represented everyway, not only politics even in other ways. Only good things once they get educated go overseas and ask for a homeland because they have money but they can not go to Tamilnadu and be Brahmins. Anyway, TNA and JVP have the same vote base. but JVP is 4 seats and TNA is 14 seats. How many totoal Tamil MPs for three million Tamils.

Mr. Ayathurai Rajasingam: I have no objection to UNP nominating ( I would rather demand “Reinstatement) Ranil W as its nominee for the PM position. You said: “He should realize that the whole country is eagerly awaiting Ranil Wickramasinghe to be nominated as PM who will restore democracy in its true perspective”. Re. your statement, I don’t know whether the “Whole Country” is eagerly awaiting to nominate RW as PM”, because that is a matter to be decided by the PEOPLE as a whole voting population and unless you have done a very “Scientific” and an “Analytical Research”, your single opinion can any way be a representative of that “Whole Country” you refer to. My concern much more that than fact is the other “Opinion” you expressed: i.e. “…who will restore democracy in its true perspective”. I don’t think you are so young as to be born a few years back to have forgotten the history of this RW’s “Political” and “Social” activities since he became an MP, a MINISTER and the Prime Minister. Remember his “Kelaniya” days with “Gonawala Sunil” -( the then “Ruling Underworld Thug King Pin”) ; then the “Batalanda Torture House” with ASP Udugama (read the Batalanda Report); the “CFL” signed even without the knowledge of the Cabinet and the President; the “Successive 21 Defeats” at elections; the “Changes forced upon the UNP Constitution” with the “Assistance” of the then “King MR”; the then “withdrawal of that GSP +” (Read the Hanzard for the reply he gave on that matter in Parliament to a question raised by Dinesh Gunawardenae) now present day “Sell Off” of our National Resources, the “Bond Scam” engineered by him ;his “Arrogance” and “Dictatorial Manner” of making decisions in Governmental matters etc….If those and many more kind of “Actions” and “Behavioral Patterns” are “Democracy in its TRUE Perspective” you VALUE, then have Ranil W as your PM; but not mine and I believe also not of that “Whole Country” (your words) you live in.

There is nothing in the constitution which empowers president to refuse to appoint a particular member who commands the confidence of the majority members of the parliament just because he dislikes/unable to work with that particular member. If president persists on that line, it would tantamount to violation of fundamental rights. That would open another legal minefield and perhaps back in the supreme court!

earliest possible manner by a dignified pull-out , arrogance and more bumbling
are being exhibited . Time for dignity is fading every second and minute !

We are the unp idiots always shouting that saying Mara, sira and every thing but the Hitler mahinda is going forward as priminister, slfp and his business class doing every thing what they want and they have throw unp as pathola idiots who are always talking and can’t do any thing. Now he is giving every thing what his slfp high ranking business class want, we as unpers mostly our members are from rural poor’s and labours in Colombo municipal council does not have any ability to fight with super power slfpers and their Hitler other than writing comments stating Mara sira, Hitler also blamed by the world when he is doing 2nd world war but he does not care, slfp governments and their business class also same like that they does not care what happened in Parliament even. They are very rich ,they have media ,they have government mechanism etc, a party like unp does not have any thing and even a police constable is not respecting them. So the bitter truth is a poor peoples and labours party like unp can not compete with a business party like slfp who has the super power. We as unp idiots can blame mahinda and slfp but the super power slfp will do what they want. We can shout but nothing will change, if you are unable to tolarate unpers please write your feelings as comments blaming as Mara and sura but it is pointless since they are very powerful and not like poor unp or jvpers.
