Some of the UPFA politicians who pledged support to the common Opposition candidate, Maithripala Sirisena during the week have expressed grave concerns regarding their safety just hours after announcing their decision.
Former Chairman of the Kotikawatte-Mulleriyawa Pradeshiya Sabha, Prasanna Solangaarachchi speaking to the media last night revealed that he has received information about a plot to kill him and his wife and added the government should take full responsibility if such a fate was to befall him.
He said that since he announced his decision, he has been followed by individuals who appeared to be from the STF and added they had destroyed his cutouts that were deplayed before his residence. Solanagaarachchi also added that he has also received information that plans are being laid out by the government to arrest him under false accusations.
Similar fears were expressed by Western provincial Councillor Hirunika Premachandra- daughter of slain SLFP stalwart Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra.
She said her security has been withdrawn and her officials vehicles have been taken away.
“When I was with them, I was given every possible facility. But the moment I announced my decision, I am deprived even of my entitled benefits as a Provincial Councillor,” she said.
Solangaarachchi won the highest number of preferential votes during the last local government elections while Hirunika topped the preferential votes list in the Colombo district during the recently held provincial council polls.

Seems like these crooks already making plans to claim bogus asylum in UK or USA after Jan 8th
/
Dom / December 12, 2014
I don’t think they’re planning to get Asylum in US, They already know ruling party’s support is fading down. I believe MR & Co. will claim asylum as they will have the corruption cases coming up soon as the ruling govt loses its the major support across island.

Threats and intimidation are part of the present political strategy. If you are convinced you have to standy by views and concerns without fear if you are to rectify the dames being done to the society and the atmosphere. History has shown such intimidation and threats may not win on the long run though some innocent people in between may get hurt.

As dictators do they rule by inducing fear in people’s minds. Rajapaksa is no different.
Such fear may be the main factor why more haven’t crossed over to the opposition.
On the streets of Colombo I haven’t heard anybody wanting Rajapaksa to remain in power but their opinions have to be coaxed out of them as they fear any open opposition may cause them harm.

They were complaining about the terror of LTTE what about the government’s terror on these politicians who are merely exercising their legitimate rights.

They’re committed to murder the one who left the government, We the people have to use the vote wisely! You cannot expect a fair and free election in 8th January, We have to fight for it unless we know that MR will steal the votes by favouring it for himself and his family.

Everyone who is following this Sri Lankan election, is of the same concern for the safety of the “opposition candidate” as well for the members who have crossed over to the common opposition candidate’s side. The world is watching this election so closely, Mahinda Rajapakse and his brother Gota will have to answer for all misbehaviors, assaults and killings.

Democracy is for us “the people”. Politicos are our sevants. We now realise that our political servants have been cheating us.
A culture of abuse of position and power, arrogance, greed and selfishness have taken over political servanthood in SL. Concern for us the people and our welfare are not in their agenda.
Eight million of us the people can vote in the presidential election and ALL of us must vote without despair but vote wisely.
UNP, SLFP and other old left parties have overlived their existence. They are unable to suggest correct policies to solve the most urgent and longstanding problem facing the country, namely the Tamil problem.
They messed up the country and created dictatorship. Soon we will face sanctions from other countries and we will be isolated to suffer more.
We the masses must refuse to be a benign flock. A new generation with a new political outlook is needed.
Therefore, we must choose amongst the other 17 presidential candidates the one who fits our policy best. We must vote for democracy, dialogue, peace, stability, prosperity and absence of war.
Thus we prevent dishonest cheats of UNP and SLFP from getting more than 50% votes and make them to face a second round voting, having in mind the service to people above self.
