you can’t deny the facts. Whatever gimmick you play with the numbers, every one understand that you cannot trust any SriLankan institution to come of with the truth. There is no difference between educated and non educated Sinhala.

An able, elegant gentleman diplomat burdened with the task of
defending a trust regime and a bad brief. Full marks to him and
his debating skill though the same cannot be said of what and who
he tries to defend. After all he carries the genes of the legal
fraternity of the N.S.O Mendis clan.

Our High Commissioner is well chosen by our President for his expertise in misleading the interviewer:

LLRC itself was appointed as a result of great pressure from the international community. Most of its recommendations remain unimplemented and LLRC website is hacked. This survey is now under way as result of the exposure of the absence of media freedom and freedom of movement = flights to Jaffna were suspended during CHOGM week, busloads of Tamils were prevented from entering Colombo to take part in a civil society meeting, international journalists were prevented from going to the North by govt protesters on the train track(and the leader got a promotion as a Minister assoon as CHOGM was over) and Prime Minister Cameron gave an airlift to the journalists who broadcast PM Cameron visit to the press office that has been under heavy govt attacks and his meeting with IDPs, etc.

Now the govt has to be seen doing something and hence the survey.

Don’t fool others just saying ‘independent’ ‘impartial’. You are doing this survey to hide the truth.

All public servants are vulnerable in the north and east and their reports and actions are subject to the scrutiny of Army and Buddhist monks. In these cases, what the independent report you can produce???. You may fool others but not the grassroots. See an recent example, how a Buddhist monk in Batticaloa accused a female divisional secretary in the Western Batticaloa during his office time. Monk has destroyed the office equipment and used utterly filthy words when the DS refused to grant a piece of state land to construct a Buddhist temple. Long life with your 2600 civilization
Who is going to give the justice for this poor DS??????????????????

    • 3
      2

That may be so, but it does not absolve him from speaking the truth. Watch carefully how he squirmed as he twisted and massaged the ‘impartial statistics’. Truth to tell, the GOSL is now stewing in this almighty mess because, in our typical native fashion, we went straight into denial at the first accusation that flew our way.Of course there was collateral damage and on the balance of probability the GOSL would have been given the benefit of doubt. Now that those that will embarrass the government have got the bit between their teeth, all the faux accents of our brown sahibs will not save them from international opprobrium.

This is seen in this way by us, but international community will only consider the facts and figures. So, he is trying to manipulate the facts. IC is not fool as the stupid general public has been. That should be clear to everyone of us.

Does anyone have official demographic statistics of Tamil and Muslim Population district vice or City vice? I find Nonis’s claims quite erroneous, true in Colombo there is a large concentration of Tamils and Muslims but this is mainly because its the centre of commercial and political power of the island and as also minorities feel safer in cities than in Sinhala dominant towns or viallges one would find minorities in large numbers in places like Colombo, Kandy , NuweraEliya but that doesn’t support his claims that there is only a minority of Tamils in the North and the East …. What is he speaking?? also he claims that the LTTE was at war not with the government but with the people of all nationalities in the country… No Mr. Nonis.. they the LTTE were at war with the system , the hegemonic oppressive institutions of the Government and not with the people of Sri Lanka even though people off all nationalities suffered due to their acts of terrorism. Tamil greivances began with the introduction of the Sinhala Only Policy by Bandaranayaka for mere political gains…. until then it has been indicated to the people of Sri Lanka and in the parliament that English the then official language of Sri Lanka would be replaced with 2 official languages namely Sinhala and Tamil… the two main languages of the island..But Bandaranayaka’s short sighted political stunt to come in to power and stay in power made Sinhala the sole official language of the country over night and there by made hundreds of Tamil speakers ( could have been both Muslim and Tamil) feel like second class citizens in their own country, they became jobless over night because the language used at office is no longer English but solely Sinhalese a language unknown to them as Tamil speakers, they felt discriminated, insecure and indignant paving the way for radical thought to grow and be cultivated in the Majority Tamil populated North and the East. Imagine for example if you as a Sinhaleese kept getting important official letters in a language unknown to you , how helpless and angry would you feel, Imagine how you would feel in a court of law when you cannot respond appropriately because you do not know the language of the proceedings, these were some of the consequences at grassroots level due to the hasty decision made by our politicians in history.Sadly it looks like politics has not changed much over the years in Sri Lanka….. So my point is no the LTTE was not at war with the people….. they were at war with the Sinhala politicians and authorities with power, they waged a war against each other and the common people of all nationalities were like the helpless grass underneath them getting trampled at every move and paying with their lives for no fault of their own.

    • 2
      2

      Suzy,
You have made some very pertinent points.
On population statistics: Nonis has been creative with the statistics (available from the SL Dept of Statistics website) and come up with some very convenient untruths to serve his argument.
Those who are old enough to remember, will recall the unseemly scramble that followed independence as all our politicians jostled each other to present themselves as saviour of the sinhala-buddhist electorate. How ironic that it fell to the pukka brown sahib, the very brown-Englishman, Solomon West Ridgeway Dias Bandaranaike to deliver the first ‘thalluva’ to rip our communities asunder. The saddest irony of all is that successive G’sOSL never invested enough in education and the development of Sinhala, so today more than ever we rely of English to conduct our affairs and divide us further.

“|” The saddest irony of all is that successive G’sOSL never invested enough in education and the development of Sinhala, so today”|”

Why try to invent the wheel?? If we forget the lesson of experience the purpose of life itself is lost.Sinhala Buddhist Monks wanted to invent thinking they were reinventing. The Dutch having heard of `Gulliver in the land of Lilliput’s never resisted the British advances but negotiated and handed over Dutch East India company. Even today its like Shell/BP where ever you find the Dutch the Brits are there. No not the Spanish but their women going after the crown (deputy PM Nick’s wife Spanish and others too; pretty Mediterranean features) even today and want Texas (Spanish name).
Please try to lay your hands on the Hansard of first Paraliment where senator thiruchelvam, JR and SWRD broke the `race ice`.
Egypt= river nile civilisation; china= could easily say Terracotta warriors 3300 yrs; India = indus valley; Lanka = 1505AD
India fought for independence like China revolution and against Japanese invasion.Egypt spring still on. Lanka with a 500 year civilization thanks to European entry is fooling itself. Its important to know who we are not what we are to address the problem- but we like India are good at voting for the dead- sentimental me :0 Even an elephant goes to his relatives place of origin only when it knows its about to die.
If i come to power I will have all politicos from 1948 statues just brought down in 24 hrs its as simple as felling a coconut tree.

I think the Honorable ambassador is out of his mind. The total population of the United Kingdom is more than 65 million, the total Sri Lankans living in the UK is 150,000 (not even a drop in the bucket). The estimated number of total Sri Lankan Tamils are less than 110,000 and all of them do not live in one electorate. How can they influence the outcome of the election in any electorate in London? The Majority of Sri Lankan Tamils are pro Liberals and the conservatives do not rely on Sri Lankan Tamils. I think the honorable ambassador is making a fool of himself in front of the international audience, only the Sinha modayas are praising him as the greatest communicator on earth. :)

Thivya, It is sad that lot of Siri Lankans are very poor in simple mathematics… For lot of people, SL is huge and like centre of the world. They believe those Sinhalese and Tamil economic, political or social refugees control those countries they live…

    • 3

      Thivya,
Nonis modaya can fool Sinhala modayas like fukusima, ravi perera, ben hurling (Jaffna library destroyer) sumanasekara Buddhist monk, so many I cant rem them all….I hope this modayas never going to change….hope IC will decide soon good for Tamils of great thamil ealam….

      Thivya @,
You are raising is valid point.
Out of those 0.15Mio tamils, how many of them have the right to vote ? how many of them are over 18 years to be able to vote even if they are UK citizens ?
They may mix it up with the proportions of Pakistanis and living

That is their naive excuse, similar to one of the common excuses of Wimalburuwanse about westerners.

What bothers me is so called western educated ( in the sense having had the chance to obtain uni qualifications)srilankens seem to be blinded by MR thugs.

Mr. Chris NONIS is paid to lie and he is lying eloquently. He says the majority Tamils are living among the Sinhalese, but those so called majority Tamils are not the indigenous Eelam Tamils. The Upcountry Tamils of Sri Lanka have never been part of the Tamil Eelam struggle.
The Sinhalese like Chris Nonis who wants to placate the international community are adding the upcountry plantaion Tamils (who have been living among the Sinhalese, in isolated enclaves under subhuman conditions, since their arrival in Sri Lanka centuries ago) to a few thousand North – East Tamils who live in the South to hide the atrocities committed against the indigenous Tamils of the North East by the occupying mono ethnic Sinhala army.

    • 3
      1

Pinguththaraya is trained to lie. When we formulate lies, we should be very careful… there the bugger seem sto be gone wrong.
How come then, that I myself did not know any single tamil before coming to Europe. I left country 3 decades ago. I have seen them in tv screens as also foreigners see them.
This man (former medical doc now turned businessman) is making billions in his tea business, passing this kind of interpretations. Moderators of the interviews should put him down asking cross questions about our history next time, then the bugger would have to leave facts. I have seen the bugger to have taken pictures with Queen. These are all hypocrites, born to be wrong on this planet.

      • 2
        0

Tea business with the first hand assistance of the ruling govt has been one of the lucrative business in the island. So he should lie in this way to survive his business. Anyone can research the facts about the topic can find more about. If govt would not support it is not easy lankens to promote their tea to Europe. These countries still prefer “ceylon tea” other teas coming from indian ASSAM, Kenya or other parts of the world.

In a strange sort of way Simon, we have to feel sorry for Nonis. As you correctly point out he is on service to the GOSL to safeguard his valuable source of Mackwoods moolah otherwise the cash flow will go phut and he – and the Mendis/Nonis clan – will not be able to live the in the pukka brown sahib style. Did you notice that Dr Nonis specially arranged for Prince Charles to stop at Mackwoods Labookellie Estate to sip tea and have some pictures taken for the company photo album.

          • 0
            0

In a country tea tasters easily become diplomats (eg. Jaliya W, president´s cousin – worked as SL ambassador to the US ), what cant go wrong ?
In a way, this man Dosthara Nonis is a joker, if he is further trying to go against his own conscience. But we can also think that he has to be loyal to the govt, as DJ had been then… for example.

Dr. Chris, I know majority of Sri Lankan politicians are uneducated, half-educated or educated by obtaining false degrees. But you, an educated diplomat have fallen prey to these foolish politicians by defending their aristocracies. No doubt you will be awarded many higher positions in the government as you may be expecting…. But, what remains at last is your personality and faith. I have admired at you as an old student of St. Joseph’s college and as a Catholic. I thought your skills will lead you to a prophetic role. But now I am ashamed of you, of your cruel face in front of the international face. I am ashamed of your utter lies. You may think that the Sri Lankans are fools to believe what you and your government are telling. But the international community is not such.
Don’t you know how your government is treating the minority christians. You know how many Catholic Priests are under threat in whole country. At this moment when I am writing this a Catholic priest in the East and another in the Capital are under threat and severe investigation. Do you know how many hindu temples are broken and robbed by your master Gota’s men. And do you not know even the threat to Muslims.
Dear Dr, defending what you think is to obtain a doctorate. You are not doing a doctoral thesis to defend the lies.
Your overall Master, Jesus (it is what expected from Catholics) preached truth and justice. Remember the 8th commandment “You shall not give false testimony”. You may think that you are doing these things to save your country.. but you ruin the country and you fail to save your soul at the face of Christ. If you want to know what is the real situation in country ask one of your Catholic Bishops in Sri Lanka.. they will tell you.. Even ask Pope he knows everything. Ask Bhps, Nobert Andradi and Raymond they will explain you in details. Ask the Bhps in north and east they will tell you the truth which would seems to you little bit exaggerated. Ask the newly elected Chief minister.. He will list everything that your government is doing to him from not allowing to accomplish his duties. Truth will be revealed one day that time we will meet again to discuss our trials that are waiting for us in the kingdom of God.

It is totally wrong to call him as a “EDUCATED DIPLOMAT”. Instead if you called him hand picked diplomat, as they are used to do… that could fit most.
I wonder looking at him – why the moderator failed to pick some LLRC recommendations remain yet without being implemented… what responses he would leave there…. but these moderators raise always the general questions… This man could easily be learnt a lesson if BBC^s steven questioned him..
His background was medicine (physician). He is NOT someone who has earned a PhD. I really dont know why this man broke away from medicine. UK is said to be a poor country among other rich nations today specially focusing on their health care systems. They hire medical professionals from other countries. As it is the case in SL and developing countries, patients have to stay months long for their treatments.

Correction – Truant and not trust.

However, slick the man is, insisting the investigation should be indigenous will not hold water – given the notorious record of the regime in many controversial issues. It will be, as someone wrote in these pages, like Pol Pot asking to investigate the Khmer Rouge murder of millions under his watch – on the untenable grounds of sovereignty.

LLRC and NPC Elections, despite the HC’s denials, came by only as a result of international pressure. In the Cameron Vs Rajapakse verbal dual, the Brit won hands down. Our King won only that local part the kept-media repeatedly parroting (and still does) from November 17 that Rajapakse convinced the world. The only concession our side may get, like Uhuru Kenyatta, is the offer of evidence by tele-link instead of a globally embarrassing personal appearance in The Hague. The ICC investigations now are believed to be a mere formality. It is learnt sources close to the regime are trying to retain eminent British Counsel of West Indian origin Courtenay Griffiths QC to appear for the Rajapakses.

The trial of Two Black African brothers killing a British Soldier by hacking him in London is the Prime time News on BBC.

The prosecutors say this killing is barbaric, despicable and cowardly and require the harshest punishment.

No one can or will disagree.

Not one but over one thousand innocent Srilankans were hacked to death just in three hits, in Aranthalawa, Kabilithigollawa nad the Muslim Mosque in Kathankadi.

    And no soldiers were there.

The same BBC never made any Prime time news, but made Teledramas to depict the culprits and the perpetrators of these horrendous crimes , look like the innocent victims.

And the British PM brought their producers and the cameramen to cover his well advertised foray into Srilanka to please his audience in London..

But the British PM seems oblivious to the fact that this same Gallery bankrolled the LTTE, which organized and carried out these barbaric massacres of infants, gran mums, grand dads, baby monks, Muslim worshippers ans even feeble poor in remote parts of the Island.

Chris Nonis, whatever you are trying to convince the BBC or any other media institution is not going to do much good for the GOSL as we call know how the former #2 in the LTTE and the man responsible of killing thousands of Singhalese and Muslims (the Arantakawa Bhikkus and Kattankudy Muslims killed on their preyers) were issued a fake Sri Lankan passport by the name of Kokila Gunawardena and mentioned as a SL Govt official and send to UK with the direct intervention of the SOD that big Goat.

As David Milliband says, GOSL and Rakapoaksas are a shameful liars.

Chris, you and folks like Rajiva W, thinks eloquent in English Language can hide the GOSL genocide of its citizens in broad daytime?

The Tamils are talking about more than 100,000 Tamils killed by the Sinhala armed forces and the suffering of 300,000 Tamils in the Sinhala concentration camps, killings of more than 40,000 innocent Tamils by indiscriminate shelling and bombing the so called safe zones including schools and hospitals, burying alive innocent Tamil children in bunkers, rapes of Tamil women and mass graves in Vanni. But the Sinhalese are talking about a few hundred Sinhalese who were killed in retaliation by the LTTE for killing and bombing Tamils in their homes and villages. This is funny now some Sinhalese want to play the victim card. :))

I am not condoning the killing of anyone but at the same time, if the Sinhalese feel that the LTTE or the Tamils committed more atrocities against them, all they have to do is agree to an independent international inquiry and freedom to the outside world to see the plight of Sinhalese at the hands of Tamils. But they are so reluctant to allow anyone to the war zone 4 years after the war. They want to play the victim card but don’t want the world to scrutinize that claim. :))

Lie 1…The LLRC was not appointed due to International Pressure…?
The UN special committee headed by Darus Usman..Yasmin Sooka..and others were appointed to investigate the serious accountability issues..the Govt was not willing to investigate…
The whole Country watched the drama unfolded by the Govt ‘ patriotic ‘ allies threatning the UN in venacular…with a Fast ..opposite UN headquarters before the birth of the LLRC…the whole Country knew that it was a damn show …a Fart…for the Sinhala speaking masses that the heroic President do not cow down to International pressures….
THE LLRC WAS APPOINTED DUE TO INTERNATIONAL PRESSURE…

Lie 2….the Sri Lankans have absolute faith in the Govt Depts…? hik..hik..hik..
The Govt Depts are politicized..no doubt the enumerators of the Dept of Census & Statistics will gather information ..but the information will not be released without filtering..the Boss has to decide..
After the Presidential Elections in 2010 ..the Country watched how the Election Commissioner went missing for 2 days.. and we know who the winner was….look at the Examination Dept.who cannot hold a Year 5 scholarship Exam…the Minister of Education recently has said that the former CJ is responsibble for the death of the Examination Dept Head in 2011….!!!!!……there is a serious issue of Credibility…what they speak in Sinhala is not what they speak in English..

THIS COUNTRY HAS NO FAITH IN ANY INFORMATION THAT THE GOVT PUBLISH…therefore It is only through an INTERNATIONAL INVESTIGATION the TRUTH can be extracted…

Lie 3….The CHOGM is not a forum to discuss bilateral issues…?
IF SO… Country Boss could have rejected the CHOGM …because Mr Cameron was very transparent and precise in what he said 2 months ahead…that he would call for an International investigation..IF the Govt is not willing to address the accountability issues after a 30 year old Civil War….the Govt knew what Mr Cameron meant by strong message…
Yet the Govt decided to go ahead with the CHOGM….
Now again the Caravan with Patriots is moving…..in venacular they are challanging Mr Cameron….because the Govt has left with no alternative but to investigate..or else face International Investigations cum Sanctions…
IT IS QUITE EVIDENT WITH WHAT DR.NONIS SHOT AT MR.CAMERON….” He has to face elections in 2015… so he is preparing the stage….to win….”

    what a MORONIC statement of a DIPLOMAT….

    Dr. Chris Nonis,

You mentioned the majority Tamils are living in the South and only minority Tamils are living in the North East.

1.Can you tell the population distribution by ethnicity of the North East in 1948 when Sri Lanka got independence and can you compare with the latest figures and explain Why that change is?
Can you tell the military strength in the North East in 1948 and what is the military strength now and explain why that change is?
Can you tell what proportion of the military presence in the North East are Tamils?

The answers will determine whether you are an educated rational person or racist Sinhala fundamentalist?

Demographics change over time, Nothing for Dr Nonis to answer there. Does any one complain that Tamils in colombo are higher now than in 1948? No, bc majority of Sri Lankans are not racist scum like you. Please stay in whatever country you are in now and let us Sri Lankans live in peace.

Liberal One,tamils down south purchased their properties and built their homes, due to employment proximity, and, education of children. But from the time of D.S.Seananayake (Gal Oya)state implemented colonisation by sinhala families in lands elsewhere has been going on.
Now same is happening in the north and east.
But the lands and homes of tamils forcibly occupied by the army are still not returned.A camp of citizens thus displaced was visited by Cameron.
Why is army demarcating large areas as ‘high security zones’when the war is over. Even the CM of the NCP has been preveted from visiting them to inspect homes and places of worship looted, desercrated and demolished by the military.

          2

justice, you make it sound like north and east is out of bound for Sri Lankan government and Sinhalese are aliens. Gal oya area had ancient sinhalese irrigation systems which were destroyed due to invasions and colonial rule. Gal oya was an irrigation project and yes that also means settlements. Then on north not even the Sinhalese and Muslim families chased away by the tigers have been settled yet.

Regarding the security zones, yes we must demand land of people be returned back as far as possible. But then again close to 50% of security zones have been retracted no?

Point is justice, eelamists want the eelam. They just make any pathetic excuse to justify their goal. It is time that we counter this unjust demand and Dr Nonis is doing it well. As a Sri Lankan who want to live in peace and see my country prosper I’m so grateful for Dr Nonis for that.

Demographic change over time but there should be an explanation if there is a dramatic change in the demographic pattern. Why don’t you analyse the facts instead of giving abstract statements. Yes I know I am not like you. There are lot differences between your racism and my racism. The Tamil people of the Nation spoke clearly in democratic way clearly and loudly. Listen to that facts instead of you don’t speak for them. Did you understand the message the Tamils send you even under the oppression of 100% racist Sinhala military?

Dr.Chris Nonis is a British Citizen..
has been living in the UK for 30 years…
he knows British better than the Sri Lankans…
This was evident when he mentioned the
      enumeration process..?
” It begins at GRAMA NILADARI level.”
      ..hik…hik…hik..Stupidity at the highest level..
He spoke to the World Idiot..
Seems the world understands Sinhala…after the CHOGM….
Sorry to say…He is not a Diplomat

Nonis’s interview style is like that of a schoolmistress. He is talking as if the other person is an ignoramus. The so called facts he gives to make his points won’t stand up to scrutiny and the mantra he chants about the diaspora is a little stale now. The miniscule tamil vote in the next general election in the UK will change no party’s fortunes and Nonis nona knows it. As his job description states: lie for your country, he is lying very well. But sadly for him no one is believing him except his own moda country folk.
