Video: Communal Unrest Simmers In North West; Minuwangoda Also Affected

Violent mobs have marched through parts of the Kurunegala District for nearly 24 hours attacking mosques, homes and businesses in Muslim settlements in the area with most of the violence taking place while police curfew is in effect, raising fears of another anti-Muslim riot in the area along the lines of Aluthgama in 2014 or Digana in 2018.

Mobs laid siege to the Kuliyapitiya, Hettipola, Aukana, Kottampitiya areas and by evening today May 13 had moved to Nikaweratiya town area driving Muslim families, now in the midst of their Ramadan fast into paddy fields and into hiding Muslim leaders said.

Footage has emerged of mobs moving through towns while curfew is in place in full view of the police. Mobs burnt vehicles meters away from the Hettipola police station earlier in the day.

Activists also reported that mobs had been stopping vehicles and beating passengers. At least three mosques were attacked in Kiniyama a Muslim village in Kuliyapitiya.

Residents are fearful the mobs will return as darkness falls again to attack homes.

Police arrested several suspects in connection with the violence overnight but released them within hours after the mobs threatened to attack more and more villages unless the suspects were released.

President Maithripala Sirisena who is the Minister of Defence and Law and Order left for China to attend another conference. Apart from calling for calm on Twitter Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has made no moves to control the violence or call in the armed forces to maintain the peace.

After several incidents of violence were reported from Minuwangoda Police declared a curfew that covers the Gampaha District as well until 6AM tomorrow (14). The entire North Western Province is under curfew until further notice as the unrest continues.

Ha ha ha ha UNP symbol can be seen in all attacks.
Ordinary citizens can’t do this type of attacks. In fact, if Sinhalese didn’t even talk about reprisals. They were shocked by the government’s involvement in Muslim terrorist attacks.
Besides, who would go and attack Muslim houses and business during curfew? Only UNP goons can do something like that as they have the government protection.
This is a combined attack orchestrated by UNP government along with Muslim Ministers, MPs and Governors.
I repeat what I said in my first comment on the 21st April after the bomb attacks.
Ravi Karunanayake and Mangala Samaraweera are behind this. They have a history. They both have underworld and terrorist connections. All these attacks are carried out by UNP goons.
As I said in my other comment, getting government compensation for these attacks may be in the cards.
After Digana riots orchestrated by the government itself, Muslims were paid millions of millions as compensation within a few weeks. Sinhalese victims of Shalawa blast and natural disasters had to wait for months to get compensation.
Therefore, government compensation for communal riots planned by interested parties should be stopped forthwith.
There is no way the government waste public money for willful damages.
Honestly, as far as I know Sinhalese Buddhists are not bothered about these incidents at all, as it is everybody’s knowledge that the UNP government and Muslim Ministers are behind them.
If the murderous government think that they can make these incidents as an excuse to postpone the Presidential Election, they are very much mistaken.
We have been very patient since January 2015. The volcano will erupt in December. Get ready!

Terrorism should be countered by terrorism. No issue no that. All Muslims knew the recent attack by ISIS affiliated terrorists. That was why they kept swords & small fire arms in their houses & Mosques in case of reprisal from people of the other faiths. As such these counter attacks are very reasonable & very commendable. Come on boys It is your duty to expel moron who believe Nonbelievers are vile animals as per their so called holy book or Koran. It is our duty to expel them from our society as Government is doing nothing to correct errors made by previous regimes granting same status by law to brutal Islam. This trend should be continue until all major parties get together & ban Islamism & its brutal literature like Koran. .

      :
We have been victims of terror for the last 30 years and not many of us would want to suffer further.
      :
Terror can only be tamed by ENFORCEMENT OF RIGAROUS LAW AND ORDER IN A COUNTRY.
      .
Look at the countries in Europe, there are incidents report in that line, but they keep them under control, just because they are well alert. Be it in London; Berlin or Paris, theyare alert on any threats of that nature.
      :
We island nations could manage it better than any countries sharing boarders.

We the people should KEEP national safety issues above any other issues. Be it with former RAJATHUMA or current SIRISENA, people should not bend their heads, when it goes issues hurting national security.

Communical unrest is part of lanken culture if anyone would please look back the recent years. That is like their opium. THey the politicians cant be without such violences I have no idea why these men, being introverted repeat it as if they have no hearts. Muslim, sinhala, tamil or burghers we are all srilankens just for the ID only. Mostly, SINHALA extremists believe that this country belongs to them only. I wonderwhy the bastards (I am a also Sinhalaya but living out of the country) seem to have no hearts even if they repeat about 2500 years of history all along.
      :
Extremism and racism are part and parcel of traditional parties. I have no idea about JVPrs and few other smaller parties, but all other parties dont give a damn about the harm being deliberately made on the livelyhood of the innocient people.
      :
I am born buddhist as many of the others belon ging to lanken buddhist community, but I would not behave the way they the majortiy would violate the true teachings of buddha.
      :
For some reasons, main stream MEDIA institutions stay backward not having expressed any meaningful information. SO there is a big gap between the truths and untruths. Like for example, from y day on, SMedia is banned within the country, but main stream media seem to be not spreading proper information about the current situation.
      :
Above all, state MEDIA and the place fallen them in the country is regrettable.
Some TV channels belonging to ABUSIVE MEDIA OWNERs ruin this country for their per, mament greeediness. SIRASA and DERANA TV channels do abuse the nation as no times in the past. in the saem time, HIRU TV and swarnawahini do the same job. People dont know who to be bleieved in:
Printed MEDIA institutions do the same more or less.
People have been misled by these men for their OWN tactics. This has become a very abusive society, where HOODWINKING politicians would grab attention to return to power.

        LEELAGEMALLA
        Correct your facts.
Communal unrest is NOT a part of Lankan culture.
It is a part of Sri Lanka’s POLITICAL culture.
Politicians and political parties are behind every unrest in Sri Lanka.
People are no longer misled by media institutions as they don’t take part in riots. Only political goons are involved in these race riots.
Why blame Buddhism? None of the politicians have one religion. They go to temples, churches, kovils and mosques.

Political masturbation of Rajaakshes loyalists would not cease that easily. They would animate anyone that may have the potential to do the job for them. These were the words of incumbent president during that OCTOBER 2018 -political crisis, which opened the eyes of even smaller ones as how brutal democracies could end up.

One behind the other, former President (currrently opposition leader) issues public statements as if they would control the country even if ruling PM and cabinet would have been in place. We perfectly know incumbent president is closely connected to Rajaakshes, not being able to do the job by his own. Irrespective of the unconstitutionality, stupid president, SORISENA has been keeping the ministry of law and oder under him. Rightly there is no such minister to act, even if countrywide curfew is imposed for the two days. As if SIRISENA s participation would have been indispensible in ONGOING CHINA conference, he has left the country for the 3 days. It is almost like BANDA’s colombo trip (BANDA COLOMBO GIYA wage), he abuses statefunds for his arbitory foreign trips but no proper reasons.
I think the activing behavour of president has fallen to that SO CALLED NAMAL KUMARA , a deserter of the forces, who was the mastermind according to president to have spread fake ASSASINATION of President in last October.
The country s affairs are fallen to that law level, by today, as no times inthe past.
It is just because lankens in general lack of AWARENESS OF ON GOING POLITICS.

This is the latest I get.
The suicide bomb attacks occurred on April 21. Yesterday was May 13.
How could communal riots started to happen after 3 weeks?
If Sinhalese were angry, they could have reacted 3 weeks ago. But they didn’t. Why now?
The general view is, this was a plan by the murderous government and Muslim politicians to prevent Sinhalese Buddhists from celebrating Vesak.
Ranil Wickremasinghe who was not in support of celebrating Vesak earlier said that the government would not allow any pandols or dansalas. Then out of the blue yesterday he says that there is no reason to cancel Vesak. And then UNP goons started attacking Muslim properties. Who is he trying to mislead?

      Chamapawathiye…
i know you live in the country, and we live out of the country.
Dont you know the nature of lanken folks ? Just study YT video accompanying comments. Most of them add their thoughts being in and out of country – say over 90% are hate mongers. If anyone would stand against Rajaakshes would behave as if their own penises have been robbed out. Most of them have nothing in their heads than sinhala filthy, and Rajaakshes liberated the country. Most of them are uneducated, labourer men being joined from Italy, Middle East and Korea. Only seldom you would find any few among them, could have brains.
Most of them are so hateful against Muslims while they constantly clean the toilets of asspits of the people in arabic world.
Some are forced to believe that they are even better than Israelis. Ironically, they do anything otherway around not being about to see it beyond. Most of them are smilar to that Dan Priyasad from Wallampaitya(a place near to Colombo).
      :
Dan Priyasad is proved to be living on the funds being offered to him by Sinhala Diaspora. His IQ is comparable to that of a low life that would even sacrifice his lifefor any facist work calling it falling in buddhistic paths.
      :
Violence will never leave space for permament peace. Minorities may live with fears. All these can only be changed if their lives would have been protected.
Now the country is in a mess, with the current president whose repsect is gone to dogs.

      Champa ,

Oh, you are back with usual Bull crap , right ? Soon after the Easter bombing , you were extremely busy with your utter stupid conspiracy theories , luckily no body took you seriously , this time also you are back with your despicable innuendos which don’t make any sense ! I’m not a Ranil supporter , yet these sort of fabrications made me to respond to you Champa ! Who is getting the upper hand amidst of all these chaos ? RW, MY3 or MR ? Who doesn’t want to see normalcy returning to SL ? Who doesn’t want to see starting schools ? who wants to do politics over scores of innocent dead bodies ? Don’t you think , your beloved one and only Google Mudiyansilage Thunmulle Booruwansa aka Modawansa and his Mafia boss clan want to grab the power when the country is in a vulnerable /dire strait situation as the gullible masses are lost due to one sided media reporting ? isn’t that the truth ? Don’t you see , all the private main stream media (Derana, Hiru ,Sirasa , Tiran Alles publications , Upali et al ) are directly supporting the opposition without any sense of shame or guilt disregarding all the media ethics , who are you trying to fool here ? Who wants a snap election now ? The bankrupt opposition wants an early election or another constitutional coup to be back in power;thus, Opposition is far more dangerous than those lunatic , blood thirsty fundamentalists !

What bull crap are you talking?
I stand by what I said. US and India are behind the suicide bomb attacks. US is all ou to make Sri Lanka their newest base. They planned to bring down US army and kept them in the country indefinitely.
Then a foreign academic (I don’t remember his name) said that there was a move to make Sri Lanka a base for NATO which is hard to believe.. It is not NATO, as I said it is the US, US alone.
About media, I am not bothered about their reporting.
About the last line of your comment, they are NOT fundamentalists. They are terrorists. They have used a newest kind of chemical combinations and techniques in their bombs. They are lavishly funded.

          Champa ,

Bull crap is your ludicrous conspiracy theories champa , what else ?
ok let’s analyse your first hypothesis ,

India is behind this horrible atrocity , If India were behind this attack , why would the indian authorities repeatedly warn SL about their own impending attack ? Next , one of the bombers had tried to blow off himself at the Taj Samudra , would they plan to destroy their own hotels ? further , there were few Indian nationals in those hotels and perished , would they do such a terrible thing for their own citizens ? Does your hypothesis make any sense ?

Next , The American been behind the attack , this anecdote has been doing rounds for more than 30 odd years ! so it’s nothing new here . During your demigod’s era , MR had signed a pact with the American forces to access SL soil any time without any hindrance , of course this good governance regime has also extended that treaty with the Americans now. Don’t forget that Americans do have their Diego Garcia army base at their disposal.. So your 2 nd conspiracy theory also doesn’t hold any water.

            Srilal ,

To some degree , on one point , I agree with Champa . I watched
one Gampaha District U N P popular foul- mouthed politician
talking on Y T about their going Pillawoos and buying from No
Limit , playing cricket together and questioned ” can we expect
such a carnage from them ? ” giving a sort of impression that
he was puzzled as to ” what are we still waiting for ” ? And within
just a couple of days Muslims were attacked in Negombo ! It is
hard to say his talk didn’t smell foul ! But he may not be the force
behind the co ordination of other attacks that quickly spread to
Kurunegala district ! And it is total rubbish to suggest that Muslim
leaders would ever want to see their fellow Muslims harmed for
their personal benefits , and in the month of Ramadan ! That is
absolute rubbish ! They may not be perfect Muslim leaders just as
the leaders of other communities as well but they won’t do
anything to harm the community ! What I believe of the April
carnage by a handful of misled Muslims is , it should be seen from
many angles , not an easy job to do . Easy to say that US involved ,
India involved , China involved or My3 knew , Ranil knew and all
other prevailing circumstances helped this happen ! One clean
truth I can see is , WE CAN NOT LIVE ALONE ! The world is forcing
us to be part of it both in good and bad times and people .

      Champa,
      .
As usual, I take seriously what you say. I think that we are agreed on one thing – the reports that we see (and the fears expressed by people whom I have met in homes, shops, and streets) testify to the seriousness of the events that are now taking place.
      .
Violence as widespread and intense as is reported cannot just happen – there has to be planning and coordinating. On the other hand, I don’t find the three-week time lag between ISIS terror attacks and counter-attacks sparked by the events of April 21st to be surprising. It takes time for reports and implications to sink in.
      .
That the President and the Prime Minister have proved themselves incapable of handling the current situation is beyond question. I wouldn’t myself conclude that they had planned it all, but what they seem to be doing now appears unsatisfactory. In the short term, the declaration of curfew and entrusting the maintenance of law and order to armed employees of the State is necessary. But they seem not to have any desire to make way for others in the Medium Term. One step that would re-assure me would be putting General Sarath Fonseka in charge.
      .
There must also be a recognition that in the long term all humans on this island have to forge a modus vivendi to live together. This island is fast becoming a hell-hole.
      .
Sadly, I see happy celebrations of Vesak as having been rendered almost impossible. Whom to blame, I don’t know.

You heard the voices. You saw the faces. Were they politicians? No they were the local hooligan class. Why would Ranil a buddhist and regular at the Gangaramaya want to stop Vesak pandols? True he is ineffective but to say they are orchestrating it is surely a bit far fetched. The other side (Appocchi’s goons) however is well capable of these things as they have proved over and over again..

Why you hold the torch again to Rajaakshes ? We never heard any kind of crimes of this nature during the last 4 years. Had Balligeputha Rajakashe been the head of states, no doubt, we would have heard white van abductions and various kind of kllings. Remember the days how they continued with their extra judicial killings in the post war period ?
I have no doubt that you want to bring back Rajaakshes and ruin this nation. Our wish is him and that condom supporter to them, wimal buruwanse to be hung by their balls for all heinous crimes they have deliberately made over the years. If Rajakashes would have been part of the victims of any kind of explosions would have been the best news for us, that see a better future.

Well, It is now possible to see those bloody bastards who hate to Sinhala Buddhists are trying to blame on Sinhalese at the moment regarding on this stupid attack. It is very clear that General public who never went against Muslim community even after brutal attack on Eastern Sunday. So it is illogical to say that this recent attack raised by general public (or Sinhalese). Even though curfew has been imposed in relevant areas, Some group of culprits has launched this stupid attack on innocent Muslim people, how it is possible? It is very clear that this has being handled by the Government, Culprits manipulated by state politicians should be behind this scenes. So i request from rational people, Don’t be biased on those hate speakers who always try to blame on Sinhalese, Their are just trying to make this country ruined, and keep this bloody government further in power without holding necessary elections in near future due to this prevailing chaos situation in the country.

How is it that the leader of Mahason Balakaya was out and about on his latest rampage?

As far as I remember, he was freed on bail Oct/Nov 2018. But what happened after that? Is he still on bail — free to pursue his campaign against Muslims?

Maybe I am misremembering but wasnt a 3-man commission set up to probe those early 2018 riots. Who were the commissioners & what did they find?

    Any ‘Lesson Learned’?
From 1948 till 1983, violence was inflicted on Tamil speaking people while the ‘government’ of the time looked on, even providing the goons.
The civil war lasted from 1983 till 2009. It took several countries led by India to ‘win’.
    .
The present unrest must be tackled internally and urgently.
Else we, layLankans, may have to suffer an international proxy war.
