A common thread in Sajith and all his supporters are impatience to get to power.

After all the ranting and raving against the corruption in this Government. He goes crawling towards the seat of power to be Chief Minister. What a LOSER.

i think ‘impatience’ is the wrong word to use. on the one hand, Dayasiri is dead-on about Ranil and the set of clowns who keep him (and Mahinda) in power. on the other hand, Harin is quite correct in saying that the better thing to do would’ve been to leave politics altogether.

Dayasisi has now lost the plot and sold out and joined the Rajapakse Military Dictatorship in his greed for power, but it is hard to believe that there is no one in the UNP but Ranil to lead the party!
Ranil is devious and cruel and has destroyed younger people in order to cling to power. There is for instance Rosy Senanayaka a very capable and charismatic woman and Sujeeva Senasinghe who with the right mentors and support from the leader would have shone and been a straight winner for the UNP.
The fact is that Ranil the shameless DICTATOR of the UNP has lost too many elections to count and should have groomed someone like Dayasiri to succeed him.
Sajith and Karu are of course useless, but there are other bright young men with ethics who could have succeeded if the leaders had done what he should have and MENTORED those with ETHICS and COURAGE.
One final word on the pious wife of Ranil< Maitree Wickramasighe who claims to be a feminist and should know that the Public is Private, and should get off the gravy train and take a stand and ask her hubby who is a DICTATOR and ruining not just the UNP but the country to hand over to some one like Rosy or anyone and resign.

I used the word impatient cuz the election of 2010 showed the nations gratefulness to MR for ending the war. No candidate, even a resureected D. S. Sennanayake or Banda could not have defeated MR. The UNP had no choice but to ride out this 5 years in oppostion.

As CBK put it, MR has muddied the thinking of the people. His type of politics says that it is Ok to be Majoritarian bordering on ethno facism. While the truth is we are mutli ethnic and diverse society.

All who crossed over so far have showed that they are not willing to wait 5 years in oppostiton. They have recoup expenses inccured during the last election by hook or by crook.

However I agree with your point that he should have just resigned from politics that go the MR way.

All UNP voters and other supporters at least now should realise the truth about Ranil’s dictatorship within the UNP and until RW is the leader then UNP will never come to power. all UNPers either give up political carrier or join the government to develop the country instead of singing Baila

Attacking Dayasiri is fine. However, UNP must look at itself first.

There is no doubt UNP has serious internal problems. Has no internal democracy. No transparency.

UNP’s leadership is lethargic. Unbale to respond to fast moving changes in a modern society.

These grave problems will not disappear by attacking Dayasiri.

All politicians who belong to these two major parties are corrupt to the core. They are only there only for themselves.

What is tragic is, stupid Sri Lankans keep re-electing disgraceful monkies from these two political groups again and again.

I blame the Sri Lankan electorate for this. Not the rotten politicians.

Ben don’t forget that under PR system it is mostly crooks and businessmen that get nominated as it they who can afford to contest. So the voter have to choose which crook to pick. The lesser evil. That being said “all politicians are corrupt” is a bit much. Members like Harsha, Eran, Karu, Ruwan, Bhuddika don’t come across as crooks. I have faith in the new generation of UNPers. People at the last election were jaded due to war victory still being fresh in their minds. However if they vote UPFA this time then all voters ought to be told kneel before UPFA politicians just like that teacher.

              Bedrock,

No doubt the UNP has incredible potential. And many great people that represent a cross section of Sri Lankan society.

However, UNP has not been realizing that potetial. Does not look like it will in the near future either.

UNP is not strategic, pro-active or dynamic as an organisation.

New, promising political talent gets suffocated at the bottle-neck of UNP’s leadership. Self-defeating for the UNP, the opposition & Sri Lanka.

I comment/critisize as a friend of the UNP. It has a historic task. To salvage Sri Lanka from the family-run, despotic regime that rules Sri Lanka right now.

          Editor CT,

It would be appropriate from the above link, if the video where Gota abuses a Police DIG at the UN protest is made available for readers view as a news item to show the level of Impunity of the Offense Secretary.

But this man Dayasiri should be a dog really ? check it out on the video, how had he been in terms of the his great differences with ruling party, how can he now get on with the thieves if he is a pissek ? This man would have no future I guess. Who would vote for him ?

        Ben
It’s right to say that UNP is riddled with internal
issues. But the point that “unable to respond to fast
moving changes” is not really clear.Do you want to
give it a bit of more light please. In my view,UNP is
the force behind current wave of all fast moving
changes except the annihilation of LTTE. And no doubt
UNP leadership is responsible for party election
losses and not doing anything to improve performance.
        Thanks.

          WhyWhy,

UNP has done a lot in the past. But, has also committed major blunders.

Important to accept that as we move on. Honesty will set us free. Rather than dwelling on our past achievements at all times only.

After all, tax payers pay for luxury vehicles of politicians among other massive perks to get certain jobs done. In a private enterprise only high achievers would rewarded the way we reward 225 people in our Parliament.

May I also draw your attention to my response given to Bedrock.

          Cheers!

This kind of politics you can not see anywhere.

May be UNP political leadership knew what a man Dayasiri is and that was the reason he was not offered any higher positions though his power greedy actions were clear. He has abused voters for his personal gains.

Power greed of two parties. This is one key ingredient
in UPFA election winning strategies, forcing the voters
to believe that even top UNP shots don’t believe UNP
can win.Dayasiri who wanted a bigger share in the UNP,
is going to be sitting with the UPFA as a satisfied
member of whatever given to him and nothing more.

I really doubt the role of Parliament in Sri Lank as to whether it is a platform for election campaign.

But one thing I observed is that Sri Lanka is moving toward one party political system or even one family political system.

“Working for MR” is not only a vision of Dayasiry, but also most of the Ministers.

In the line from Johnston Fernando or Johniya. They all cross over deals and do what Rajapakse wants, namely blame Ranil. MR will not rest until he destroys the UNP and ridding it of Ranil is the most effective way to have that done.

This is why I have given up voting at elections. I don’t want to vote for the UPFA but if I vote for the UNP or JVP these low-life unprincipled rogues who can be bought over for a few rupees and will betray my trust and will cross-over having received my vote to come into power. Which in effect is my vote for the UPFA. No point wasting my time voting.

Rajapaksa either has something big and black on Dayasiri or a huge sum of money has changed hands.

There is absolutely no other reason and probably Mrs. Dayasiri is involved.

      Don Quixote:
When you say “Mrs. Dayasiri” whom do you mean? The one he is alleged to have left behind in the UNP or the one he is married to?
The world is full of strange happenings and the UNP is no exception. Dayasiri should NEVER have been accepted into the UNP because he has credentials as a monumental opportunist and his tenure with G.L.Peiris, when he was in the UNFPA before, has some interesting highlights in the area of “commissions” and that sort of thing!

It’s a sad day for all of us. I think most of the UNP MPs are not happy with Ranil. He is acting more of a Dictator than a Politician. He should have retired Long time ago. The only UNP leader who lost 12 consecutive elections and still been a party leader is a mystry.

It is not only Dayasiri but a lot of senior MPs left UNP after Ranil became it’s leader.

Ranil has to think if he is qualified enough to take the party foreward as a leader. Does he have leadership qualities. Is he there to serve people. I don’t see so.

The way he talks, his speech, his points, his presentation and voice and attraction everything does not show him as a politician hbgut a businessman. A colombo 7 businessman cannot be a politician. Both are different.

It’s time for UNP both senior and junior members to discuss where Ranil is taking the party and to rescue it. It’s a sad day for all of us UNPers. Good luck to UNP.

Compare these jokers in the South with what the Tamils managed to achieve in the run-up to the elections. They persuaded an intellectual heavyweight, Wigneswaran, to come in and be their CM candidate! A great show of leadership despite all the suffering the Tamils have undergone in the last 30 years, beaten from both sides — their fascist murderous dictator on one side and our cruel government/army on the other. Even the foundations for victory over the fascist Tigers was laid by a Tamil man, Kadirkamar — with a very high level of education. Recently, some of the best speeches in this parliament have come from Sumanthiran of TNA. Which Sinhala politician now can claim to match the integrity, educational level and commitment to Sri Lanka that these three can demonstrate?
We need big changes in the South. We should stop accepting murderers, drug pushers, bribe takers and these utterly selfish party jumpers lot as our leaders.

If Ranil is a dictator, why should Dayasiri seek the refuge of a much worse dictator? If he could not be comfortable in the UNP, how can he be comfortable with the Rajapaksas whom he had been lambasting for years. This fellow is yet another political scoundrel! I hope people will teach him a good lesson.

exactly! a lot of people here has pounced on this as an opportunity to blast RW (as he so rightly deserves), but very few seem to be remarking on the fact that we’re now supposed to trust the NWP to a man who demonized the Rajapakses and exposed them at every turn and who has now become one of MR’s cronies.

Just goes to show how easily distracted most of us are…

Problem is that seniors in UNP are not active enough. This is common with those of SLFP too. Them being seniors, stay mum without discussing even key issues. This man – Dayasiri proved himself that nobody can trust on him. If it is the UNP leadership blocked him being active in politics, how can highly corrupted to everyone eyes, including to his, the ruling party strengthen his attitudes in politics. Paradoxal views. Anyway, all these show that even graduated politicians do their job not for the sake of the nation, but for own their pocket. My question if this was a deal based on a collosal sum of tax payers funds – why can NOT the opposition together with laws prevailing in the country prove it – that IS against the consitution. Why do all stay further as if they have no powers- arab style spring must work right at this time point to convince nation. Lead should be made by oppo and professionals including lawyers.

It is all because of the war. It took the lives of number of potential leaders to give the life to the nation. RW has become UNP leader because the rest had been murdered. He is educated, decent and a respectful person, but not good enough to pass the message to the majority. The Majority of the people would not want to see happening things according to the constituion. They are happy if they get their three meals without problems. THey just support anyone that get close to them. As anybody closely studies it, MR is not serious with the people. Nor is he genuine with the issues of the poor in the country – latter is but misinterpreted putting the other way around through state media by which the masses keep informed them regularly.

If MR administration is doing more to the poor, he could have made some price reducitons in daily needs. As a result of his silly politics, the poor has to struggle for their 3 meals today being unable to face sky rocketed cost of living today. During my last tour to lanka, I heard some saying that CBK handled it better specially when it goes with the prices of gasoline, and essential daily needs. But she handled them while the country was fighting the war at its highest. Under the current admin, srilanken airlines earns nothing but huge sums of losses only while the tea industry is also not in good shape. And several other companies according COPE report will bring all losses. Crime rates are the highest – why does MR regime fail to control over all these ?

UNP has no leadership, UNP is not an opposition, Ranil is working with Government. Under Ranils leadership, UNPer sitting in the opposition bench is waste of time. Better, join the government. There are loyal politicians in the UNP. I respect them. Obviously, Ranil is working as an agent of Mahinda. Our future is DARK. Let Ranil out first before any election. Ranil is the main course and curse for today’s corrupted government. Daya cheater, got big a fish from MR. 65 UNP MP are with government. No Balls!! Cheating poor voters. Ranil to resign and give the party to build the trust of people.

Dayasiri has proved to all that he is not an exceptionally brilliant man as projected in the media but one with feet of clay. One thing in his favour though; he was not going to “strengthen the President’s hand”. As to what he was going to strengthen we can only guess. I liked Harin Fernando’s speech, fluent and hardhitting.

According to reliable sources Dayasiri had two options for cross over apart from Rs.250M cash deal. Option 1 to accept a “Parippu Ministry” like Our Laxman Seneviratna’s “Seeni Ministry”. Second option is to contest for CM Wayaba PC. Dayasiri has chosen 2nd option as he know he will have to eat lot of Parippu from the public in the near future. Also the same source indicated that “Ala Ministry” is already allocated for Sajith Premadsa because wherever he goes he makes everything “Ala” and for others “Luunu Ministry”, “Umbalakada Ministry” and “Saman Ministry” are available.

It is time all UNP MPs’ should stop participating in all Parliamentary proceedings and walk away. Why is Ranil not requesting his MPs’ to do so. We do not have Parliamentary democracy in Sri Lanka, today entire ruling regime consists of stolen UNP MPs’. Is SLFP so bankrupt?

    Park,

    I truly agree with you.

What I don’t understand is what is the real benefit for us the Citizens from having an opposition in the parliament debating issues with the Govt. ministers who even do not bothered to listen or to correct their Ministries.

First the opposition MP’s could be bought like Chicken, meat or fish that are available in the market.

Also there is no difference what so ever between a Male Prostitute and a politician. Both could be bought for money. They both are available for service and could be hired provided you pay them asking price. The more attractive the higher the asking price.

The difference is when one serves himself and his family from the earning, the other represent it’s Citizen who voted for him.

Infact the cross over MP’s could be called as Respectable Prostitutes as they own luxury houses and drive luxury cars.

From now on whatever issues the Opposition Brings up in the Parliament such as bills, any Govt. wrong doings, any Govt.Corruption, thuggery, malpatrice, stealing, rape, murder etc, will be taken lightly by the Government and will make it look as a Joke.

Already I saw this was discussed among Government Parliament members in the Parliament itself. They use Dayasiri cross over as an excuse to rob and steal the peoples money where now opposition is helpless and they Joked about it. Wait and see in coming months.

They said they will not listen to any issues that opposition brings into the Parliament. That means there will be more thugs, corruption, commission, rape, murder, drugs, casinos, brothels run by Govt. MP’s openly.

Govt. MPs are prepared to humiliate and laugh at any issue,Bills, wrong doings etc, whatever and when ever brought up by the opposition in Parliament as a Joke, Humour and a laughing matter. This was mentioned by one Govt. minister openly in Parliament.

This is what Rajapakses were planning and have instructed their goons to act at Parliament. To humiliate the opposition and to make them fools and mere Jokers.

Please see that in past any issue that opposition has brought up in the Parliament has been either served or looked into or carried out by the Government or it’s MPs………NO.

Moreover I saw in the news that after Duminda Returned to Parliament, again there is a rise in Drug Business and increase in drug trade in Kolonnawa, Wellampitiya area.

I think the opposition is wasting their time in Parliament, talking to a bunch of Govt. Morons who will never listen or act to whatever they say.

It’s better if opposition skip Parliament for good and spend that time to help poor people who are in need of their help in their electorates.

It’s hi-time that opposition decide to Skip Parliament for Good if they truly think of their Citizen and listen to their hearts.

Sri Lanka Parliament is a Joke, run by Jokers.

They should be in Hambanthota ZOO.

Mahela, the problem are the voters. Although the present regime is upto thuggery we keep on electing them. We do not have the “consumer resistence” in the sense of voting. Its time every educated Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim voter should start educating our fellow voters who come in contact with us on a daily basis and explain to them where this regime is leading us.. down the drain.

UNP should work with Sobhitha and other theros to bring as many as to the street and go on protest against the rulers.
Some seem to be feeling other way around that we have already achieved permenant peace defeating LTTERs. People are not well informed about the reality of the country. They rulers just keep hiding all the facts and figures but further abusing the innocent people.

        • 0
          0

          Both Sun ande Park,

I agree with both of you.

Yes until we educate people on what the rulers are doing to our country on daily basis with a daily budgeted cost, Rajapakses with their enormous ill gotton money will throw 100 times more to deceive people.

For instant one Govt. PC member said that he spent closer to 70 Million Rupees during the last PC election to get nominated. Who has these kind of money other than making through Kappan and other ill gotten means, while Rajapakses contributing a major share of it.

When an opposition candidate spend 100 rupees on an evert Rajapakses throw 100 times more that what he spend. This is the purpose that why all the Black money is collected and spent.

What I think that UNP and other opposition Parties should do is to operate their own independent Radio Broadcast channel to reach masses.Eitherthrough FM or any other media channel to reach whole of Sri Lanka Citizens possibly to reach our expatriate community. They could obtain funds through their supporters both in Sri Lanka and abroad, advertisements and volunteers.

Second they should promote and inform public through Flyers, hand bills, Internet, SMS, etc, using low cost but effective means to reach public, specially the villege folks.

Third they should work closely with all the Trade unions.

Fourth they should constantly volunteer to help poor and needy peoply and use those to promote their respective parties.

Fifth they should work both with Our expatriate community, and also with International community.

Sixth they should reach to all clergy, NGO’s, Private and public enterprises, business community, student and Teachers movements, Professional and intellectual community, womens movements etc, and organise constant seminars, publishing books, manuals, leaflets, flyers etc, to promote their respective parties.

Hire a professional Private Intelligence gathering service, security service, Marketing, research, survayer, party Promotion and Media organizations to reach public and promote Parties.

It’s time for change using 21st century technology and knowledge.

Can anybody please confirm if Dayasiri Jayasekera really received 25 Million Rupees from President Rajapakse as crossover money.

Remember it was Judas who betrayed Jesus for 40 pieces of Silver 2000 years ago.

I salute Harin Fernando for his brilliant speech. I hope the voters of Kurunagala all hear what he had to say in full. To all the usual Ranil Wickremasinghe bashers I ask of you two questions.

    1. Who do you think out to lead the UNP?

    2. What do you expect the UNP to do differently under this so called new leader.

    Lets take the 1st question.
The obvious contenders are Karu and Sajith. Karu got his chance and lost the leadership ballot. Sajith did not contest but has a reputation for thuggish behaviour. Karu jumped into the UPFA and learnt his lesson the hard way and when he could not take it nay more and was about to be kicked out jumped back into the UNP. He was taken back and given a respectable position in the party by the dictator Ranil. Ranil also allowed a leadership ballot where Karu challenged him for the leadership. Sajith has been promoted within the party and holds the highest office he can hold. However, his penchant for gutter language is a turn off. Do we need another thug to get even with the current army of thugs and their disgusting tactics. If we go down that path as a nation do we not get what we deserve with no hope of ever redeeming the sorry state of affairs in the country. Lets also look at the father and what he did as president. He drove out the IPKF and armed the LTTE a fact that is now well established as the most stupid act of self destruction which lead to his literal self demise being blown up into bits by the same LTTE. All the good done as prime minister and minister were undone by this stupid act of the father who also has the blood of 600 cops who were led to their slaughter because of his policies. You can take a cue from the father’s record and draw your own conclusions about the son even though he is not responsible for any of it.

2 Lets take the second question.
I asked the second question since I know that attitude of most of the Ranil bashers is that he does not protest loud enough. He is not seen marching at the front of enough protest marches. What Ranil has done is the shadows no one will appreciate. It takes funds to organize protest marches money does not drop from the sky the UNP has to raise it. Protest also rely on public support. Above all merely protesting does not bring about regime change. What Ranil does inernationally does more damage to this rogue administration than any loud/foul mouthed protest will ever do. These are things where maturity and experience count.

Lets also look at personal wealth. The UNP was founded by my for-fathers. I know for a fact that they all had one thing in common. They were all wealthy land owning aristocrats who genuinely wanted to devote their fortunes and indeed did just that for the betterment of their fellow countrymen. The Senanayakes spent their own wealth and that of the Plumbego mine owning Artygala family. Sir John Kothelawela donated all his wealth to start the defence academy. The Nugawelas pawned their own land to fight election campaigns and went broke in the process having to auction off their ancestral home. The list goes on. Did any one of you wonder what Ranil’s wealth is. He is the very last UNP leader to come from its past pedigree. He could easily chuck it all and live comfortably and that is the final nail in the coffin of all you mud slingers. You are the most ill informed bunch of morons.

Harin seems to have good qualities. I also respect him.

Most of all his argument ” we the young politicians fed up of politics today etc… “.

Any sane people would never respect Dayasiri. He may dream a lot, but wait and see what would happen next.

He has betrayed the party and everything just being that selfish.

How can he youturn and say “he would do whatever he can to win Rajapkse in next presidential election”. Dayasiri should be the most immatured politician but became popular just because of his singing talent.

      Haramanis,

First I will guarantee to anybody today that Dayasiri’s dream of becomming the next CM will never happen. It is more of a dream than a reality. I could give enough and more points, but do not have time to write them all here.

Also Dayasiri played a dangerous game of leaving the Parliament to contest PC election, which is another blunder. He may never see tha Parliament again in his life.

Yes when we got Independence it was the educated, respected and well connected Leaders who had all the respect of Citizens that took over governance of our country. But Rajapakses changed it all. Now I see more respectable, honest and disciplene inmates in Welikada Prison than in Parliament. I call them respectable Pros…tutes who will sell their Body and soul for money.

I think Ranil has to bring his agenda to the people as I see still many UNP MPs are not happy with his type of administration and PR. He has to work on a winning strategy.

Finally Ranil has to come out from his shell and should work more with trade unions, university and professional organizations, other minority political parties, youth programs, village committees, town meetings and both foreign and local NGO’s. he should designate more powers and should give more authority to Young energetic future UNP leaders.

Also he should use all the Print, visual, internet and use other mass and mainstream media to reach masses.

Ranil should be more open, transparent and Goal oriented and should be a winning strategist. He should be more in Mass Media. Not the Mr.ever happy looser.

Finally I say Dayasiri got himself trapped by MR who ruined his own political carrier. Why he did not Join Gen.Sarath Fonseka or even JVP is a mystry.

Let’s see how his future unfold.

What a fantastic speech. I thought Dayasiri speech was superb. But Harin’s reply was even better. Amazing future for this guy. I only hope the UNP protects him.

What caused you to name as superb ? He has not given sufficient reasoning what he left the party – why he had been going on saying that he would never cross over…. neverthelss he did so… I also believe it should be a deal based on a collosal sum of tax payers funds caused DAYASIRI to say good bye to UNP.

It is quite obvious that there is no future for the UNP with Ranil at its helm. `The signal-posts’ in the Working Committee will keep him as the leader for another decade. The UNP is clealy no longer the political alternative to the present dictatorial regime. The UNP dissidents along with the political forces dedicated to restoring democracy and good governance in the country should form a strong opposition party to topple this tyranny. After all, there is nothing sacrosanct about the name, `UNP’! `

What a maturity in his speech and could expect much more from this young guy. However will he get the right place in the party to he’s in.Rightly he said anyone who’s not satisfied should have resigned and not crossed over. The problem with Ranil is that he may be a gentleman and not a good leader and the best thing he should have done a long time before was to leave the leadership in new hands without the leading the party to destruction as it has happened now.

So who you think could give the leadership to the party then ?

I am also in agreement with that anyone who is not satisfied should have resgined and not crossed over.
