General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), Galagoda Atte Gnanasara in an interview has confessed that he has been quite a heart-breaker – both pre and post monkhood.
In an interview with the Sinhala mainstream newspaper Maubima, Gnanasara while reminiscing his memories has stated that he has been wooed by the opposite sex since the ripe old age of 12.
“I have had many girlfriends,” he has told the interviewer, “I was a very talented singer. So I was very much involved in activities organised by the school literary society. My talents used won me the attraction of so many girls who would shower me with toffees, chocolates and tea. . .”
Gnanasara has gone on to state that even presently, despite being a monk he has been pursued by young women and has faced extremely uncomfortable situations as a result.
Recalling one such incident he has stated,”I remember in 2004, when I was involved with the Ama Wessa program during the formation of the Hela Urumaya, one day I realised I was being followed by a very young girl whom I had never met before. She kept following me and staring at me. After sometime I informed the elders about her and it was then I was told that she was following me as a result of the mental anxiety she was undergoing due to her feelings for me. . .She had fallen in love with me and it seems she had said that she cannot live without seeing me although we had not ever even spoken to each other.”
However, he has asserted that he has been able to mange several such situations due to following the words of Buddha as they have been instructed to think of females who pursue them as their own sisters, mothers, daughters etc.
In the same interview, he had confessed to having a weakness for perfumes and fragrances as well.
Meanwhile, he has stated that he has never consumed alcohol or smoked as a layperson responding to a query during the interview. However, Colombo Telegraph revealed how he had pleaded guilty to nine charges including hit-and-run, drunk driving, speeding, driving without a valid licence and failing to report the accident filed against him by the Grandpass Police in 2000.

Where on earth you got your ‘arguments’ from? True, Buddha and Siddhartha is same person physically but two personalities. How could a muslim understand it when they cannot understand the simple writings in the Koran. Muslims kill each other because they understand the Koran (interpret) differently. Talking about Buddha, he is historical. Archaeologists said to have done more than enough excavation to trace evidence of his ancestry. So it a lie to say Buddha was a commoner at his last life. But he has been a commoner at many a previous births.
He was educated and grew up like a prince. Like all others, he married his cousin princess Yasodara and bequeathed a son at the right age. So, for Buddhists, Buddha is a human and not a God like Jesus or a self proclaimed Prophet like Muhammad. Only, there occurred few unusual incidents at his birth. Then again, how and why such miracles took place are profoundly explained in the Buddhist scriptures.
Buddhists believe Buddha was at Tussitha heaven in his previous life. At all previous lives throughout his very long samsara, Buddha was known as Bodhisathwa. The desire of all Bodhisathwa had been to become a Buddha. Aim of the Buddha is to liberate all beings from suffering. To become Buddha, Bodhisathwa has to train himself, develop compassion, rid evilness and prevail the thoughtfulness throughout his long samsara. He had to train not to carry the baggage of vengeance. It is kindness and compassion all the way. But as we all know, the God of Christianity and Islam is full of hate and vengeance. See the difference between the God and the Buddha. And that’s why we Buddhists say Buddha stands above ‘The God’.
Anyway, we have never heard or read in Tripitaka (Buddhists scriptures) about incidents that lead to homosexual tendencies of Buddha that you have mentioned. There is however a natural change of sex has been mentioned in one of the jathaka katha. But we haven’t heard Buddhism castigating homosexuals. So, I wish to know more details of your assertions.
