Does Buddhism prevent affection being shown to people, even if women? No.

The monk is showing Maitriya, affection, and I do nor think Buddha forbid that.

Is it all right if the monk kissed a little goat instead of a pretty women?

It is all in the thoughts. What does the Tipitaka say?

Hey Dudes, this monk is biting her ear or at any rate nibbling on it..
        Some maitreya Buddhist this..
When he has an orgasm on her sari it will be too much maitriya I suppose..

Buddhists of Lanka please send you wives, sisters and daughters to experience ENLIGHTENMENT and affection from the Saffron sinners!

        Way to go man!

          Dude,

          You Say:

“Buddhists of Lanka please send you wives, sisters and daughters to experience ENLIGHTENMENT and affection from the Saffron sinners!”

Buddhism teaches the 4-Noble Truths and the 8-Fold Path to Nirvana=Nibbana=Extinction.

So, if this Saffron Clad monk helps the Buddhists to get there, what is wrong with it. The end point is clear. Nirvana=Nibbana.

Think of it this way. You want to go from the Buddhist Cultural center at Dehiwala yo The Kandy Temple of the Tooth. Thre are multiple ways od getting there. By train, by bus, by car, by a three wheeler or with a bunch of politicians, monks and hookers in a luxury bus. Still you can get to Kandy.

That is how some politicians and monks to to Kandy.

CT PLEASE ALLOW THE FOLLOWING THIS TO APPEAR:

“The following was taken from http://abcnews.go.com/sections/2020/2020/2020Friday_010105_priestswaids_feature.html

Why did I post this? The Bible assumes that all of the “spiritual” leaders or Church Priests and Ministers (as we call them today) are sinless and perfect. Let us look at the following Verse from the Bible:

“The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgment. (From the NIV Bible, 1 Corinthians 2:15)”

When a Priest decides to commit adultery or fornication, then he would be disproving the Bible, because as I said, the Bible ASSUMES that all Priests and Ministers are perfect and sinless who are not even “subject to any man’s judgment.” The article below proves that this is obviously a man-made false assumption and corruption in the Bible, and not GOD Almighty’s Divine Revelation. “

        “Priests With AIDS
        Crisis Within Catholic Church

Jan. 5 — Like other Roman Catholic priests, Father Roger has taken vows of poverty, obedience and celibacy to stay pure and focused on God.

His parishioners trust Roger, who has known since grade school that he wanted to devote his life to the church.
But he’s afraid if they knew the truth about him he would lose that sacred trust.
“My ministry will not be able to continue if people knew that I was HIV-positive,” says Roger, who is gay and has broken his vows of celibacy.
Father Roger is not the only HIV-positive priest. He estimates that over the course of his ministry, he has known 15 to 20 priests who have contracted HIV through homosexual relations. Many have died.
“I’ve worked with priests who have died with AIDS,” says Richard Sipe, a psychotherapist and former priest, who has spent the last 40 years researching and writing about the sexual habits of Catholic clergy. “I estimated that 750 priests had already died of AIDS,” says Sipe, who has analyzed hundreds of cases of AIDS in the priesthood, and believes that “another 750 priests carry the HIV virus.”
        The Church’s Response
No one knows precisely how many priests have the AIDS virus or have died from the disease. But a recent effort to find out was conducted by the Kansas City Star.
Reporter Judy Thomas, who has collected priests’ death certificates over the past few years, says, “We will be able to document that at least 300 priests have died of AIDS — and that is likely to be conservative.”
But Sister Maryanne Walsh, the spokeswoman for the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, the official voice of the church in the United States, says this represents only a small percentage of priests.
“It concerns me terribly that anybody has AIDS,” says Walsh. “And even more so it concerns me that 300 of our church leaders, of our priests, would have AIDS.” But, she adds, “even if you doubled that number, you’d have less than 1 percent. So while you have 300 tragic stories there, you don’t have a trend in the priesthood.”
Even though AIDS can be contracted in a number of ways, experts including Sipes believe many priests contracted the disease through homosexual relations.
In his new best-selling book, The Changing Face of the Priesthood, Father Donald Cozzens, a respected Catholic seminary president, says there is such a high percentage of gay priests in the church that he is concerned “the priesthood is or is becoming a gay profession.”
Sipe, too, estimates that between 25 percent and 45 percent of American priests are homosexual in orientation.
Sister Walsh says not only would it be difficult to find evidence to support these estimates of gay men in the priesthood, but it is also irrelevant. “There’s no real purpose in saying whether someone is homosexual or heterosexual,” she says. “The issue is whether they can make a commitment.”
Indeed, the Catholic Church teaches that there is nothing sinful about having a gay orientation or homosexual desires — whether you’re a priest or not. It’s acting on those desires that the church considers unnatural and wrong. So when a gay priest has sex, he is not only violating his vows of celibacy, but the church’s very strong moral teachings on homosexuality as well.

        Preparing for Celibacy
Bishop Thomas Gumbleton, an outspoken liberal Catholic leader in Detroit, believes most priests are maintaining their vows of celibacy. But he says many of those men are gay. Gumbleton also believes that until recently, Catholic Seminarians failed to teach priests how to integrate their sexuality and didn’t adequately prepare them for a lifetime of celibacy.
But the church has made dramatic changes in the last decade in the way it addresses sexual issues in seminary. Instead of denying or repressing sexual desire, seminaries now use progressive psychology to help men deal openly with the once taboo topics of sexual attraction as well as homosexuality.
Seminarians, for example, learn how to channel their sexual energy, and that it is alright to embrace their homosexual orientation. They are taught that intimate, nonsexual friendships may help keep them from breaking their vow of celibacy.
And even AIDS is now being seriously addressed by the church.
“Jesus didn’t ask how people got leprosy,” says Father Dennis Rausch, a Miami priest who ministers to AIDS victims and also has full-blown AIDS himself. “We don’t ask how they became infected. We are here to walk with them — not to judge them in their journey.”
Rausch still has his job and can talk openly about his disease in his diocese because he refuses to discuss how he contracted HIV. By his silence, he hopes to sever the connection between homosexuality and AIDS.
“The Church has worked so hard to take away blame and guilt and shame and victimizing of anybody with this disease,” he says.
But not all priests with AIDS feel as comfortable speaking so openly. Often, their homosexuality and the violation of their vows of celibacy condemn them, keep them from telling the truth about their disease, and prevent them from finding the support they need.
“I’m comfortable with what I’m doing,” says Roger, though he also says the double life he lives sometimes troubles him. “If people wanted perfect priests and ministers and rabbis, perfect clergy, we’d all have to take off our collars and leave the sanctuary.” Roger adds, “I’m a good priest. My HIV is a result of a poor choice I made in my life … And that doesn’t mean that I have nothing left to give to the Church … God will judge me — with all the strengths and the weaknesses that He has given me.” “

This is not the exclusive monopoly of the Priests. Monks have the monopoly too.

She sent her grandson to school with the idea of providing him with proper education to make him a good person. The Buddhist monk in charge of the temple asked her to send the child to the temple and she sent him there because they were poor. There was no possibility for them to pay the money for tuition fees. That was the reason why they sent the boy to the temple school. When the child began to refuse going to the temple school so adamantly, grandmother had to look for the reason. It was then only that she discovered that the child who was sent to learn good behavior, ethics and Buddha’s Dharma from the monk had in fact been abused by the monk.

“Your Barbaric religion is not suitable today………………”

It is not the religion, but those who have taken over the religion, like the monks and priests.

Same with Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is not Barbaric. It is the people who are in Control in Sri Lanka, the current actors Mara Rajapaksa, Mara Gotabaya, the Mara Monks and their henchmen.

              Amarasiri ,

It is proved that Buddhism is not practical religion today. Everywhere these monks are violent for the sexual abuse and murder cases. So, they should change the rules of Buddhism. Monks should be allowed to marry and have civil life and the monk hegemony should be killed.
I don’t understand why people like JIM SOFTY never use his brain?? But talk about democracy and non-sense.
If they don’t believe in GOD why they need this fucking monk hegemony????????

            1. Jim Softy must have been “Treated” F***** by a Venerable Buddhist Monk at Pansala, and he wants that to be perpetuated.

            2. Monk Hegemony is needed to perpetuate this “Tradition”

            3. Cannot change Buddhism, as the Enlightened Buddha is no more.

It would have been great, if the Monks had to work for a living, raise families, and be responsible members of society.

So, you are stick with the the teachings as given in the Tipitaka, the Three Baskets.

Dear Jimmy Soft: your quote from the Bible is out of context. Bible is not meant to be taken verse only in isolation. ready the full chapter then it will give the verse you refer to in context.
what it says is that the spiritual man does not judge (situations) with his own wisdom. because he is spirit filled he is able to bale Godly wisdom.

this is not talking about judgment as in to pass verdict. it talking about judgment i terms of making wise decisions.
anyone interested read 2 Corinthians chapter 2 in full. it is only 15 verses.

Please hurry up, send your wife, mother, father, daughters, sons and you personally so that you all get the kind of “maithriya, affection” that you describe here! By the starving hungry and waylaying looks of the monk I think he will have enough orgasms to dispense you all of the family!!!! Happy “maitriya, affection”! Bloody fool!

Mr. Amarasiri – the most respected commentator in CT.

There are thousand ways to show affection or Maitriya to all including women. But this way of showing to a non related women is not acceptable. Though I believe this monk’s intention is not of bad nature, This way of showing affection to a unrelated woman
should not be accepted because this can be abused by people with sick mind.

Just imagine if this is allowed in temples and schools.

I disagree with you with due respect.

          Dear Silva and Dear Yako,

Thank you for your viewpoints on Mitriya. I looked at the Tipitka, as to what the Master said to Ananda about women. That was 2,500 years ago. These poor monks, are starved, and still they are humans, and need some relief and entertainment that will not harm others. From the smile on the women’s face she seemed happy, especially being kissed by a Monk.

While this is NOT what is expected of this Monk, this Monk is far more civilized and decent to show affection to another human being, a women, even though may be unrelated, than the following Monks who are brutal to their fellow humans.

I would prefer this monk who shows Maitriya, even to Women, to all those monks from BBS, Budu Balu Sena, Mara Balu Sena, Sihala Ravaya and other who spill hatred all day long in order to maintain their Hegemony. Read your Dhamma, the teachings.

        Good MonK!

He is showing Mairita, Affection, unlike other who simply want to rape women, or anything that moves with a frock or saree.

        http://www.ndtv.com/article/world/one-in-ten-men-in-parts-of-asia-have-raped-says-study-416624?ndtv_rhs

London: About 1 in 10 men in some parts of Asia admitted raping a woman who was not their partner, according to the first large studies of rape and sexual violence. When their wife or girlfriend was included, that figure rose to about a quarter.

International researchers said their startling findings should change perceptions about how common violence against women is and prompt major campaigns to prevent it. Still, the results were based on a survey of only six Asian countries and the authors said it was uncertain what rates were like elsewhere in the region and beyond. They said engrained sexist attitudes contributed, but that other factors like poverty or being emotionally and physically abused as children were major risk factors for men’s violent behavior.

A previous report from the World Health Organization found one third of women worldwide say they have been victims of domestic or sexual violence.

“It’s clear violence against women is far more widespread in the general population than we thought,” said Rachel Jewkes of South Africa’s Medical Research Council, who led the two studies. The research was paid for by several United Nations agencies and Australia, Britain, Norway and Sweden. The papers were published online Tuesday in the journal, Lancet Global Health.

Buddhist Monks should not be hugging or kissing or patting women. They should keep their eyes away from women’s faces and bodies. Most of these monks that we see today are businessmen, especially those who are running big institues are mudalaalis. Personally I have no time for them, and I detest the way they are constantly badgering people to give, give, give into their pockets, and advising those give not to track or reconcile where their donations were going. I have gone off present day Buddhist monk look alikes, and monks in general of all religious faiths, prefering myself to the Buddha’s teaching.

Hah..hah..haaaa! Yes, the hip region of the monk seems unable to reach the woman by a long distance because his “underlying” parts that have already approached her are making any further advances by the monk prohibitive hence the monk gnaws her face like a squirrel does at a mango!

This is sacrilegious stuff by this bloody mundane monk. He is no different from an ordinary human. The Buddhist disciples are taught from Viniya Pitakaya on how a monk must conduct himself. Though look difficult and odd for laymen like us the logic behind is that when a monk has truly followed the Buddha’s doctrine he does not feel and act in the laity conventions and quite naturally too without any effort or strife because the monk has then understood the real nature of desire, lust, love, compassion and social ethics. What we have today is a fake Buddhism followed by ignorant masses, lead by corrupt monks!

In Maha Parinibbana Sutta, Diga Nikaya, Buddha replies to Ananada Thero:

Then the Venerable Ananda said to the Blessed One: “How, Lord, should we conduct ourselves towards women?”

    “Do not see them, Ananda.”

“But, Lord, if we do see them?”

    “Do not speak, Ananda.”

“But, Lord, if they should speak to us?”

“Then, Ananda, you should establish mindfulness.”

Engagement to a young girl at that time was legal. The bride was his best friend’s daughter, who later became a leading personality to authenticate his sayings. No one accused him of a wrong doing during that time. Not even his enemies.

By the way certain leading philosophers were accused of rape, murder by the then community for which even the leader did not deny. Could be more specific if required…

@sabrina. Here the question is not whether the holy Prophet Married who at what age. But whether your hypocratic monks can kiss a lady or not. If your religion or the so called culture permit it, show us the proof. and then a question arises. If there is a lady and a man seated in the seat reserved for priests, who should offer him the seat if a monk boards the bus?

the problem is, you dont use this little gem of logic when you’re all busy pointing out the faults of others, do you? you can all easily point fingers at muslims and tamils, but you can’t look at yourself. the moment someone else points out a problem with your people, you say “think about yourselves!”

i live in perpetual confusion as to how people with your kind of brain-dead morality don’t shoot yourselves and rid us all of a headache.

      “But Atheist can comment anything.”

Atheists do have an advantage in that they do not have Priests, Monks and Mullahs to pamper, and be subjected to their hegemony.

They are also free to kiss women and girls.

However, they do have a disadvantage in that they will not have a shot at Nirvana, Nibbana, Sansara, Rebirth, Apaya, Heaven, Hell, Limbo and Purgatory. the mental states of the faithful.

So make your choice. What do you want in this life? Next Life?

      Pascals Choice. Pascal’s Wager

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pascal's_Wager

ascal’s Wager is an argument in apologetic philosophy which was devised by the seventeenth-century French philosopher, mathematician, and physicist, Blaise Pascal. It posits that humans all bet with their lives either that God exists or does not exist. Given the possibility that God actually does exist and assuming the infinite gain or loss associated with belief in God or with unbelief, a rational person should live as though God exists and seek to believe in God. If God does not actually exist, such a person will have only a finite loss (some pleasures, luxury, etc.).[1]

They were created just like any other human Beings… Flesh and blood…

during the Ancient times, when two monks were walking along a very narrow path, one monk had to lift a woman and carry. When both reached their destination, the other monk had asked about why would the brother monk had to lift a woman.

The answer was the monk who lifted the woman had left her there. The other monk had carried it all the way in his mind.

So, buddhism does not work the way christianity work.

FIRST REMEMBER HOW HOW THOUSANDS OF CHURCH PRIESTS HAVE CHILDREN ALL OVER THE WORLD FOR ALMOST A CENTURY.

IT IS MOST PROBABLY A CHRISTIAN WHO IS HURT BY THIS.

I AM SURE, EVEN THOUGH I DON’T SEE ANY OTHER COMMENTS BEFORE ME, CT WILL PUSH THIS COMMENT TO THE BOTTOM TOO.

hahhahahahaahahaaaahhaahaha jimbo jimbo what a pathetic reply man !

first of all do you accept this behaviour or not say yes or no

you dont have to worry about Christian priests because all the fellows who got caught were charged and disrobed in most cases unlike the so called monks who even when caught are let off scot free in most cases (with the exception of Somanraman and Buddharakita theros)

you guys shout from rooftops about culture and all that so is it what you call your culture jim?

        Peace Lover:

Accept that Lord buddha forgave even a man who killed 999 humans and rehabilitated him as a non – violent noble.

Buddhism understands that humans are humans and is willing to forgive humans as long as they ARE WILLING TO to grow up.

IN BUDDHISM ONE’S FATE IS DEPENDANT ON THAT PARTICULAR ONE AND NOT ON THE ALMIGHTY OR THE PEDOPHILE AND ADULTEROUS PRIESTS.

It is Christianity which says every thing is ALMIGHTY’s WISH anD ask to come and confess in front of pedophile priests.

It is the christianity which is becoming extinct because it is all fraud.

          Celibacy and monasticism
Those who choose to practice Buddhism as ordained monks and nuns, also choose to live in celibacy.[3]
Sex is seen as a serious monastic transgression. Within Theravada Buddhism there are four principal transgressions which entail expulsion from the monastic Sangha: sex, theft, murder, and falsely boasting of superhuman perfections.[4] Sexual misconduct for monks and nuns includes masturbation.[5] In the case of monasticism, abstaining completely from sex is seen as a necessity in order to reach enlightenment. Buddha’s criticism of a monk who broke his celibate vows—without having disrobed first—is as follows:
“‘Worthless man, [sexual intercourse] is unseemly, out of line, unsuitable, and unworthy of a contemplative; improper and not to be done… Haven’t I taught the Dhamma in many ways for the sake of dispassion and not for passion; for unfettering and not for fettering; for freedom from clinging and not for clinging? Yet here, while I have taught the Dhamma for dispassion, you set your heart on passion; while I have taught the Dhamma for unfettering, you set your heart on being fettered; while I have taught the Dhamma for freedom from clinging, you set your heart on clinging.
“‘Worthless man, haven’t I taught the Dhamma in many ways for the fading of passion, the sobering of intoxication, the subduing of thirst, the destruction of attachment, the severing of the round, the ending of craving, dispassion, cessation, unbinding? Haven’t I in many ways advocated abandoning sensual pleasures, comprehending sensual perceptions, subduing sensual thirst, destroying sensual thoughts, calming sensual fevers? Worthless man, it would be better that your penis be stuck into the mouth of a poisonous snake than into a woman’s vagina. It would be better that your penis be stuck into the mouth of a black viper than into a woman’s vagina. It would be better that your penis be stuck into a pit of burning embers, blazing and glowing, than into a woman’s vagina. Why is that? For that reason you would undergo death or death-like suffering, but you would not on that account, at the break-up of the body, after death, fall into deprivation, the bad destination, the abyss, hell…
“‘Worthless man, this neither inspires faith in the faithless nor increases the faithful. Rather, it inspires lack of faith in the faithless and wavering in some of the faithful

Just a one kiss, and he is just a monk

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had 13 + women

        Islamic Marriage is so tribal

Marriage by purchase or giving b ride price. A man is required to give an agreed amount of cash/kind to the parents of the bride as price which usually varies according to the physical beauty and utility of the bride.

Marriage by capture is where a man forcibly marries a woman

LalyKing, please rest your original research on marriage in Islam. Some people try to sound like scholars when all they know is to find some links from wikipedia.

Islamic marriage system is the most practical and complete system, Islam recognizes that all humans have needs sexual or asexual some in lesser degree and some in a higher degree. This is a known fact scientifically that some men naturally have more Testosterone than others . So some may have a higher degree of sexual needs than the other; look at the situation in India it’s common story married men raping their daughters and their sisters (hence the common term used in India “Behen Chod” or sister F***er).

Islam gives a very practical solution to this, if you are not satisfied with one then marry up to four! Instead don’t rape your child or sister. But Quran is the only scripture that orders marry ONLY one women if you cannot do justice to them.

Regarding paying money to women to marry, yes we pay money to the women to get married unlike the milksops (ponnayo) who take money, house , car etc to get married, the Quran orders men to provide for the women from the man’s earnings not the other way. The money that is supposed to be paid should ideally amount to a sum that can be invested to sustain herself in case she becomes a widow this is what Islam teaches. There is no TRUTH in the amount paid depends on the looks of the girl that’s your own made up bullshit.

Prophet did marry 13 times and had 11 wives at a given time. His first wife was 15 years older to him and he did not marry again until death of his first wife. All of his marriages are great lessons for we muslims (please read on the subject you will understand), he was not a hypocrite like these monks who preach celibacy to us and fuck around in the back alley.

I agree with one point of your comment

“he was not a hypocrite like these monks who preach celibacy to us and fuck around in the back alley.”

Because he has told that he want to do that. And you know what some monks do.

According to Islamic marriage if Man divorce from his wife wife’s father has to pay back the amount which he got for his daughter. This is too ponna than what you said. at the time when the divorce happen that women’s father might be too old to earn.

He has let all Muslims to capture non Muslim women and marry them. Reason is quran only allow Muslims to fight against non Muslims. Quran does not allow to fight with other Muslims. So all these POWs will be non Muslims.

Thats another BULLSHIT of yours, if a man initiates the divorce he has no right in Islam to ask for anything that he has gifted the women, in fact Islam prohibits taking back anything that was given to anyone.

              Volume 003 :: Book 047 (Gifts) :: Hadith 790
              Narated By Ibn ‘Abbas :
The Prophet said, “He who takes back his present is like him who swallows his vomit.”
              Volume 003 :: Book 047 (Gifts) :: Hadith 791
              Narated By Ibn ‘Abbas :
The Prophet said, “The bad example is not for us. He who takes back his present is like a dog that swallows back its vomit.”

Here is the relevant Quran verse, when commenting back please use a reliable source not your Jewish crap.

Divorce may be (pronounced) twice, then keep (them) in good fellowship or let (them) go with kindness; ‘and it is not lawful for you to take any part of what you have given them’, unless both fear that they cannot keep within the limits of Allah; then if you fear that they cannot keep within the limits of Allah, there is no blame on them for what she gives up to become free thereby. These are the limits of Allah, so do not exceed them and whoever exceeds the limits of Allah these it is that are the unjust.

What if a woman initiates the divorce ?

Khula’ means the separation of the wife in return for a payment; the husband takes the payment and lets his wife go, whether this payment is the mahr which he gave to her, or more or less than that.

              In Saudi Arabia

Women awarded Khula in Saudi Arabia are required to financially compensate their husbands or give away marriage settlements. Sometimes, this may include custody rights to their children. Other than the dowry, it is also common for the wife, especially in the case of newlyweds, to return marriage expenses. Older females in Saudi Arabia generally don’t support Khula. They believe that the increased number of Khula requests is the result of Western influences of Saudi culture. Mainly, the new belief that women should also pursue financial aspirations. In Saudi Arabia, women can end up losing when awarded Khula. This is because often they cannot support themselves or their children.

Sometimes it’s more than the dowry.

What is that kula????? You talk about Bullshit. Basically you are reading an anti Islamic websites…….because of that reason you fail to understand the real fact n Islam. Saudi Arabia has their own constitution and it is dictatorship. Islamic political system is Khilaphat, democratic is adopted version of khilaphat today.

LalyKing, yet again another original research of yours (google what is “Original Research”), just because you found it on some websites doesn’t make anything true. I can produce 100 more websites, books and research material that opposes the same.

I have given you the final and ultimate law upheld by Muslims the verse from the Quran, there is nothing more to it.

I do agree with you there are times women do have to pay back the Maher (or dowry), this is something specific to certain middle eastern countries where the Maher usually reaches on average 50,000 USD, men go through hell to save this money to marry, just imagine if the women marries him and divorces him at her will just to keep the money?? I am sure you will not be a happy man if you spend 50,000 USD for a failed marriage.. where the women gets to keep the money just because She wants to divorce YOU

Again this is more of a cultural issue and has nothing to do with the religion and remember there is no country in the world that implements 100% sharia law (all of the countries that claim to be sharia law implemented are just bullshitting the Muslims). And such decisions are made according Ijma (consensus of a jury) and Qiyas (deductive analogy, context) laws in Islamic jurisprudence. These are complex subjects that would be too complicated for your little brain so better leave the argument to the experts.

I think if you look at Islam with a open mind it has a very pragmatic approach to every problem man has, I wish you do as much reading on Buddhism or to better yourself instead of finding faults in others religions.

It is common sense these monks do need to get laid at least once in a while this is why Islam doesn’t preach priesthood. Instead we have scholars (Ulema) . Another practical approach.

A Sinhala Buddhist Monk was sentenced to prison recently in London for having sex with under aged girls. The parets of the girls trusted the Monk and left the girls alone in his care.

The girl sued the monk only after her parents died. The monk held do much comtrol over the fmaily.

As is happening in Sri Lanka now , the Sinhla Buddhist Monks hold so much fear in the Sinhala Masses, politicians, the police, the army and even Gota and the Presidnet is scared of them so much so that the monks can get away with murder, rape, arson , and any crime

    Vatican is full of Scandales.

    See the newest one;

“The Italian prelate who was Pope Benedict’s righthand man in the Vatican during his scandal-dogged papacy has defended his much-criticised record, insisting he “gave everything” to the job despite the activities of “vipers” in the Roman curia.

Speaking a day after Pope Francis named a Vatican diplomat as his new secretary of state, Tarcisio Bertone appeared defiant as he was asked about his time in office.

“I see the record of the past seven years as positive. Of course, there were a lot of problems, especially in the last two years,” he said, according to the Ansa news agency, hitting out at “a combination of crows and vipers”.

“But this should not cloud what I consider to be a positive record,” he added. The Italian word corvo (crow) is used pejoratively to describe informants or people who leak secrets.

The final years of Benedict’s papacy were overshadowed by scandal, most prominently the so-called “Vatileaks” affair that depicted the Vatican’s swollen bureaucracy as a hotbed of conspiracy and cronyism.

Bertone, who was appointed by Benedict in 2006 to occupy a role often described as the Vatican’s prime minister, was blamed for much of the papacy’s disfunction and poor decision-making. The German pontiff came under pressure from some senior clerics to fire Bertone, but refused.

“I always gave everything but certainly I had my shortcomings,” said Bertone, 78, on Sunday. “But this does not mean that I did not try to serve the church.”

He said it was not true that the secretary of state “decides and controls everything” within the Vatican.

Announced on Saturday, the move to replace Bertone – which had been widely expected – has been greeted as a vital step forward in Francis’s agenda for reforming the Vatican.

However, observers said the appointment of Pietro Parolin, a career diplomat who will return from his posting as nuncio in Venezuela to start the job on 15 October, signalled less a desire for wholesale reform than the wish to revive the old-style Vatican system that flourished under John Paul II.

Bertone had no diplomatic background when he was appointed, while Parolin served as Vatican undersecretary for relations with states – effectively deputy foreign minister – from 2002 to 2009.

He has worked in Nigeria and Mexico, and is known as a pragmatist rather than an ideologue who stayed out of the tense exchanges between the late Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez and the Catholic church.

“A veteran Vatican diplomat, Parolin … has been on the front lines of shaping the Vatican’s response to virtually every geopolitical challenge of the past two decades,” wrote John L Allen, of National Catholic Reporter, on his blog.

“By naming a consummate insider, Francis appears to want to ‘reboot’ the Vatican’s operating system back to a point when it was perceived to operate efficiently, rather than scrapping it entirely.”

Parolin, a 58-year-old Italian archbishop, said in a statement he would give Francis “complete availability to work with him and under his guidance for the greater glory of God, the good of the holy church and the progress and peace of humanity, that humanity might find reasons to live and to hope”. “

Quite right PeaceLover. The monk is a disgrace and nobody should defend his action.
If a monk touches a woman in a sexual way, he commits a very serious offence requiring formal meetings of the Sangha and probation (Sanghaadisesa). The upright monk will avoid all physical contact.
Of course nothing like that will actually take place because of corruption. It is people like this who are destroying Buddhism.

I do not see what the issue is……he is just a man and not attained enlightenment. What is the big deal???? Christian pastors, Hindu priests and also Muslim are married and have sex. This is not sex..I am Catholic and have to say that we should be balanced in our views. Pardon me for my ignorance but is this monk a member of BBS?? If he is it then takes on a whole new perspective.

Aiyo. If Tamil poorsais can have children then why cannot a Buddhist Monks do the same. Holy men in Islam have many wives and Roman Catholics like young boys so do the Anglicans. What is wrong? Now even gay people are getting married. And Mangala Samaraweera… what about him? Gay man likes the service entrance of all the people he brought to lake house.

wel well.. Christian Priest and Muslim clergy are allowed to be wedded, so they can have wives… does Buddhism allow Robed monks to be married or even have wives..? IT is human to have a feeling towards the opposite sex and these monks are deprived this by a religious edict.. so it’s natural for em to like lil boys and women who come seeking solace….

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_sex_abuse_cases

he Catholic sex abuse cases are a series of allegations, investigations, trials and convictions of child sexual abuse crimes committed by Catholic priests, nuns and members of Roman Catholic orders against children as young as three years old with the majority between the ages of 11 and 14.[1][2][3] These cases include anal and oral penetration and have resulted in criminal prosecutions of the abusers and civil lawsuits against the church’s dioceses and parishes. Many of the cases span several decades and are brought forward years after the abuse occurred. Cases have also been brought against members of the Catholic hierarchy who did not report sex abuse allegations to the legal authorities. It has been shown they deliberately moved sexually abusive priests to other parishes where the abuse sometimes continued.[4] This has led to a number of fraud cases where the Church has been accused of misleading victims by deliberately relocating priests accused of abuse instead of removing them from their positions.[

CT should have published this kind of articles in order to be FAIR. 9this is said to be a program telecasted in ABC news, 20/20 Television program)

    “Priests With AIDS
    Crisis Within Catholic Church

Jan. 5 — Like other Roman Catholic priests, Father Roger has taken vows of poverty, obedience and celibacy to stay pure and focused on God.His parishioners trust Roger, who has known since grade school that he wanted to devote his life to the church.

These Buddhist monks are just saffron robes hypocrites. They kisses the women on their cheeks here, but what they are doing behind the scene more than clear. In a country where, ruthless crime friendly leaders stay mum even women or elderly people are looted – anything is possible.

RajapakseS are born to destroy the nation. THat is a proved fact.

CT should not publish these pictures as that priest is not a racist or a member of BBS or a child molester to the best of my knowledge.Though kissing of a woman by a Buddhist priest is wrong as per the preaching of the Lord Buddha why does CT make it an issue? Let any priest kiss any number of women. Why should we poke into others’ personal affairs?
Many men and women have extra marital affairs. Should CT publish their pictures and preach that those acts are bad?

I am not a Buddhist and I live in Europe hence this is nothing for me as it is a way of greeting in all the Western European countries. But in Sri Lanka or in India, it is different and the Buddhist Priests don’t even shake hands but greet even the males with folded hands (like the politicians). I showed this to a Buddhist friend and his remark was “hirikithai”. If the woman gave a kiss it is understandable to some extent but here the Buddhist Priest is giving a kiss to the woman’s cheek with his arm around her shoulder! It is true that these priests are also human beings and a number of them have wives and girl friends but to do this openly is not good as they are supposed even not to sit by the side of a woman. This is a tradition and we have to respect our traditions. I have seen the Catholic priests kiss the parishioners in Europe and it is accepted but not in India or in Sri Lanka.
