M.A. Sumanthiran is back before Parliament! I have not seen anything posted from him in a while. I was wondering if he was being censored. Thank you for bringing this GREAT man to us and please give us more from M.A. Sumanthiran. If the best and brightest were President of Sri Lanka, it would be M.A. Sumanthiran!

Sri Lanka would be a much nicer place to live in with politicians of Mr. Sumanthiran’s nature.

He is an excellent representative in Parliament for his electorate and for Sri Lanka in general.

Those who disturb his right to free speech inside our country’s national chamber a traitors.

      Cheers!

The Sri Lankan President may be an illegal immigrant from Kerala. In any case Sinhalese proudly claims that they are born to a banished Bengali criminal.

Good that Sumanthiran speaks freely, 04 years ago his predecessors had to get speech script approve by LTTE terror’s Head office…..He says Sridaran’s speech was allowed free passage but Sambandans’s, by the way ,aren’t both TNA MP’s ??…. & says TNA does it’s best to go together with all Lankans,…. if so why the hell they still hang on to separatist demands/demarcation of boundaries exclusively for Ceylon Tamils ?….If MAS is true to his words why can’t he get TNA to condemn all the atrocities committed by LTTE terrorists for 26 years ???…& denounce any heroes’ day celebrations in Lanka & overses ( by Diaspora terrorists) ??..rather than promoting it ??.. where do TNA stand ??..Now they are sober , mute & tail is between legs because VP & murderous gang is no more, if not they would have been as if Maharajs / Lords of North & East.

every single one of these points you bring up show that you’re just another person who lacks the capability to do any independent thinking whatsoever, preferring to parrot the lies and half-truths that the govt. keeps feeding you sheep.

      1. the TNA hasn’t asked for demarcation or anything of the kind. All they ask is for the govt. to enact the contents of their own LLRC report and try and implement greater, decentralized power-sharing for ALL, not just the north & east. This “oh my god, TNA is asking for eelam!” talk is the kind of fear-mongering bullshit that people like Azwer and the JHU keep spouting to keep their pure Buddhist vote-bases voting for them.

      2. the TNA HAS, on several occasions, stated that the LTTE was wrong.

      3. denouncing heroes’ day isn’t this clear-cut black-and-white thing for the TNA as it is for you. While the day DOES include hardline LTTE-supporters (some of whom are part of your beloved govt. now) celebrating the antics of the LTTE, thousands of ordinary Tamils remember their dead, LTTE fighter or civilian, during the war. Making a blanket statement demonising the day isn’t going to do anything except piss off the ordinary Tamil people. the extremists don’t give a shit about the TNA anyway, and think they’re weak. You would know this if you spent more than 10 minutes a day READING the contents of this site instead of screaming in broken English in the comments sections.

      4. “if not they would have been as if Maharajs / Lords of North & East.” VP never gave a damn about the tamil politicians in colombo- to him they were a means to an end to be used and then discarded. the man was a terrorist and an egomaniac. The chances of him handing over power after a successful war to a bunch of lawyers is as unlikely as you ever learning how to know about a topic before airing your pitiful opinions on them.

uneducated scum like you, reading the daily news and believing every goddamn thing you’re told shouldn’t be allowed to reproduce.

      John:
You cannot hold M.A. Sumanthiran responsible for events 26 years ago. If people like him had been around back then, the Tamils would not have supported terrorism because they would have had a powerful voice. You are looking at a unifier here. For example, the Muslims in Sri Lanka give Sumanthiran a lot of support. They are not stupid. They support him because they know what a powerful voice he is for human rights and equality for all persons. It is for this reason that Sumanthiran probably could easily win in an election in Muslim areas of the country. There will come a day where all Sri Lankans get behind this man. There is a lot of room in Sumanthiran’s tent for people who believe in freedom, democracy and equality. I am one of them. Like the many Muslims who support Sumanthiran, I also support him because I recognize that we are watching greatness here. A lot of people can see it. This is the man who should be president.

“Why do people of North and East have to suffer these injustices even after 4 years has passed since the war” ? desperation in Mr. Sumanthiran’s voice is very clear! many incidents were mentioned which is setting the tone for things to come topped up with a murder. For how long do we have to take this ? where are we heading ? will we ever see light at the end of the tunnel ? How did this Azwer got a doggy face to bark like mad dog ?
Where is on the earth is the opposition ? what the hell are they doing ?

The violent incidents against the elected TNA members and the murder in the island off Jaffna are simply a precursor to more oppression to come from the Rajapaksa regime. The restrictions/sidelining on the Chief Minister is another is another indication that the regime is trying to impose military rule in the North. Is a violent response from the population a possibility? I think there is a distinct possibility of it happening in the near future.

I could not disagree with you more! M.A. Sumanthiran is one of the most brilliant persons in Sri Lanka. You have someone who is reasonable and moderate and you attack him because just as he notes, you would rather deal with the extremists. Sumanthiran represents all Sri Lankans far better than the present government. You have Muslim members of Parliament shout him down, but it is undisputed that he has reached out to the Muslims and is one of their most powerful advocates as well. He also is a good voice for the majority of the Sri Lankan population who believe in democracy and freedom as well as equality for all. The majority population surely must be concerned about the downward slope in democracy in Sri Lanka. M.A. Sumanthiran is the best hope to preserve it and to restore Sri Lanka’s greatness. You are looking at not only one of the greatest people in Sri Lanka today, but one of the top human rights advocates and top lawyers in the world. There are some people who recognized this very early on and that is why he gets a lot of support from diverse quarters in Sri Lanka. M.A. Sumanthiran is the representative for all people who like freedom, democracy and equality. I can see it and so can others. Someday you will also. Sometimes, it takes a while for people to realize. You will get there…. I am not embarrassed to say that I love this man! He is a great leader!

Is Sumanthiran the only person who could speak English in the entire Lankan parliament?

  • 0

Hats off for his eloquence, but…..

how is this speech moderate? He starts by accusing the House especially Azwer for disrupting a speech the day before, then gives a list of incidents of violence that has taken place in the past few weeks and accuses the Govt/Sinhalese for orchestrating them, then gives a list of activities of the army taking place in the North and the East (same activities go on at the rest of the country too but he conveniently doesn’t mention them) and finds fault with it even tough he himself mentions that the Army is selling its produce at lower prices than the farmers (So obviously its the people who benefit), then goes on to justifies the LTTE Heroes week celebrations, and then finally praises Cameron for interfering with our affairs.

If you have read Shakespeare you will recognize this for what it is…Marc Anthony’s speech at Caesars funereal!!

One should understand that reconciliation can only happen if and when both parties can acknowledge each others plight. The Government and the Sinhala Majority alone being held accountable for the atrocities committed by the war as wanted by the Tamil Diaspora will never lead to peace in Sri Lanka. At the very least the parties like the TNA and the diaspora should acknowledge and condemn the role played by the LTTE and recognize it for what really was; a ruthless terrorist organization. Until they do that there can never be trust or closure.

Innocent Sinhalese were also massacred, who speaks for them? That Mr Sumanathiran is the six million dollar question.

Great speech by by Mr. Sumanthiran. We need politicians with principles, who loves the people of our country than their votes.

Well done Sumanthiran; your speech reflects the sentiments of the silent majority.

The intriguing question by Sumantiran about why this house allowed a provocative speech without any interruption while voices of moderation are always heckled down? has not been answered by anybody in the house. Tamils with common sense also should ask this question themselves.
