All – on contrary, I think the guy (MR) handled it pretty well – obviously he would lie about a few things. Everyone in this country knows about the infamous ‘white van abductions’ including blackmail and demand of huge ransom to free the hijacked victims, or the victim is killed and the body dumped dumped. But he connected this to an isolated incident of a runaway kid.
He says there were no incidents of religious intolerance or extremism in the country, whereas the minorities know the truth of that statement. As usual talking shop about 100 odd Mosques destroyed in an un-named country and no one points a finger at government, but when similar such type incidents happen in SL, the government is blamed. Bluff again. The truth is the government gave tacit support to attackers, no arrests were made and the police (government controlled) were made inept while attacks took place around the country. The only good thing was no one was killed.
It is definitely a good thing that the UNHCR is closely monitoring what is going on in SL, since we as minorities have lost confidence in this government to uphold the law with justice and fair-play in its treatment of all its citizens. What happened to the Tamils in July ’83 is now looming menacingly on the SL Muslims. Of course, we have faith and trust in Allah to protect us, our lives, families, businesses and properties. A world body like the UN helps to keep this government in check, as a repeat will only fuel world condemnation and spell doom for this regime including this leader and his family bandits.
