Vijayakala Maheswaran Denies Exhibiting Tamil Ealam Map In Campaign Vehicle

The United National Party (UNP) group leader for Jaffna district Vijayakala Maheswaran today denied reports that one of her campaign vehicles was exhibiting a poster of the Tamil Ealam map.

“I am told that there is a complaint against me to the Election Commissioner’s Department stating that I was using vehicle No 65-9815 for my election campaign work, with a poster exhibiting Tamil Eelam map.
I deny that the above vehicle is not mine and not hired or rented out by me for election campaign work” she said in a media statement.

Vijayakala MaheswaranMaheswaran said that she had never supported Ealam and will not do so in the future as well.

She accused unnamed political elements of trying to tarnish her image and create communal disharmony.

Maheswaran also strongly denied another accusation leveled by the High Priest of Naga Vihara in Jaffna that she had told media that under the UNP rule all police stations in the North would be closed.

“I have never made such a statement and no person in proper sense will make such statement” she added.

Wijeyakala Maheswaran’s full statement

I am told that there is a complaint against me to the Election Commissioner’s Department stating that I was using vehicle No 65-9815 for my election campaign work, with a poster exhibiting Tamil Eelam map.

I deny that the above vehicle is not mine and not hired or rented out by me for election campaign work. Further more, I never supported the cell for Eelam. I strongly believe that the solution to the racial problem, if any in our country should be found within a united Sri Lanka. Hence, I have no connection with any Tamil Eelam Map referred to. I strongly and catogericaly deny that the vehicle No 65-9815 is not used for my election work and I never exhibited any poster or cut-outs of Tamil Eelam map.

In the Jaffna Peninsula, mass support is booming day by day to me. The floating votes are also turning to our side. Evil elements are unable to bear this and these malicious elements are indulging in false propaganda. A map of Sri Lanka with highlighted Tamil homeland and a photograph of a candidate of our standing against the background was fabricated and spreading damaging propaganda in the South of Sri Lanka. Their intention is to create communal disharmony in the minds of Sinhala masses.

In the internet social media also similar Sri Lanka maps are appearing connecting me personally. All these actions are the work of mischievous elements, who are unable to stomach the increasing support, I am receiving from the ordinary masses. We never supported the call for Eelam and we will not do so. In future to our position is that the solution to our racial problem should be found within a united Sri Lanka. We completely disclaim these cooked up picture of Sri Lanka and the propaganda thus created. We whole heartedly condemn these baseless propaganda. Our policy is to live as equal citizens along with Sinhala people with united Sri Lanka.

Further I have been quoted by High Priest of Naga Vihara as having said that under the UNP rule all police stations in the North would be closed. According to the newspaper this is alleged to have been made at a meeting in Colombo by the Priest of Naga Vihara. I have never made such a statement and no person in proper sense will make such statement. This is another action by mentally deranged persons. I highly condemn this action, who try to damage my good image.

Sure sure, and I guess your appearance on Satana where you claimed that young girls were falling over themselves to become child soldiers and suicide bombers during the golden era of the LTTE, then squirmed and writhed and thoroughly embarrassed youself when called out on it by the host, was also “another action by mentally deranged persons” :D

      SSS,

please come out of your coccon please.

Now we seem to have a world where justice is being given chances.
After 17th, that could become crime friendly if BUGGER would be reelected. But you need to play open cards DAVID BLACKER. As one who animated any criminals to work towards the killings of innocient civlians in the nothern soils at the war end – you must not be exempted from being charged.

As minister, what has she done to the people who elected her? Has she got any achievements other than being the wife of a former MP who was killed by the terrorists?

    • 10

You mean state terrorists. The new govt should conduct a proper investigation on all those killed and blamed LTTE for it. Starting with Kadirgama. No way am I saying that LTTE dint do criminal acts but others too did it and used LTTE for cover.

Our country needs more Vijayakalas contesting from UNP or mainstream parties in North, so that they can work for people of North as Govt. Ministers rather than being seated in opposition benches & doing nothing ,like TNA.
Good that she refutes Naga Vihara Monks false propaganda & would enlighten Sinhala masses.
        Well done, God bless Vijayakala.

The point is despite being in power this woman has done nothing and will do nothing in the future either.
She is like a Paba. Paba at least acted and got elected on that. This woman just seems to sell her husbands name and has nothing to show in terms of achievements for the people who elected her.
          PATHETIC

Robert – Pls note that she represents Jaffna district and only people living there could comment on what she did for the people. she is once again, sure to win a seat under UNP banner against mighty TNA and this clearly shows how much of work she has done for the women folks in Jaffna district.During the recent rape and murder case of a young girl
in Punguduteevu,(NP), who was the MP who was there on the spot.? it was Mrs. Maheswaran and not TNA.and she got Minister concerned, madam Rosy Senanayake and the president ,to tightened the case against many, who were trying to cover up. She is not much educated but an active junior minister, whom the people adore.

I am sure she will be elected. Being elected is nothing in this country !

We have even elected the likes of Mervyn and Paba and all sorts of drug dealers, criminals and those with no O/L, A/L and every kind of undesirable characteristic you can imagine.

To elected one does not need to be “adored” or do anything, one needs “publicity” and that is the reason Mervyn or Vijayakala Maheswaran gets elected. Known faces and known names get the preferential votes, not on their ability or their past achievements.

Sadly Vijayakala Maheswaran used her husbands name (and murder) and is still cashing in on that.

As for the rape case, I think the case got so much attention she was forced to act but we know that case was one among many that frequently happens in the north and east for which I have never known her take any action.

UNP candidate Vijayakala Maheswaran is very active in her campaign with posters and loud meetings. She denies the Eelam map story but I believe that she has not denied refusing to hoist the SL flag last Friday. Any publicity is good.

“There was a distraction on Friday morning. Vijayakala Maheswaran, UNP candidate and a former Deputy Minister, refused to hoist the Sri Lanka national flag saying she had “never done so.” This was when she turned up at the Hindu College playground where the Jaffna Premier League cricket tournament is now under way. Kathiravel Sebwal, who once contested on the SLFP ticket for the Northern Provincial Council, is the organiser of the tournament. He told the Sunday Times, ” I gave the first opportunity for Vijayakala Maheswaran to hoist the Sri Lanka national flag. She refused saying she had not done so before.”

      Heretic

Hindu college is not a Hindu temple where on the inaugural day of festival season the poosari hoist the temple flag.

The college should have its own flag to decorate the occasion. What a silly idea to wave/hoist a ugly beast’s face on a cheap clothe and scare the children.

Maybe the “flag stunt” was only done to promote the candidate? Do you like conspiracy theories?

It appears that the chief priest of the naga vihara is batting for Rajapaksa the corrupt dictator. Making false statements like this is not acceptable for some one who is a priest. He is a mischief maker and may end up being chased away from his vihara if he carries on like this.

    Mrs.Maheswaran

It is your choice to contest on the UNP ticket. Will you undertake that if elected , you will solve the Tamil problem according to the wishes of the Tamil people soon without any lame excuses. Of course if Ranil forms the government.

    This is bad news…

    I mean for the TNA..

Ms Maheswaran the Green Lady from the UNP says the support for for the Elephant is gathering momentum.

Where would that leave the TNA after the Dalits there are being swallowed by the Ponna Party and the Ex LTTE Crusders with the help of the Tiger Diaspora and the Elaam PM Mr Rudrakumran.

Now the Vellalas who are residents in Jaffan have a tough choice

Is it UNP or TNA ?.

Is the TNA trying to be the goodie here?

      KAS,

“Ms Maheswaran the Green Lady from the UNP says the support for for the Elephant is gathering momentum.”

She is spending a lot of money in her campaign and trying to gain support also from the people you call “dalits”.

I hope that she is elected because without her there might be no female Tamil MP in the parliament. That possibility shows the level of Tamil politics. Our women were good enough to fight but still mostly kept out from politics.

Curious wording above. This means in plain English, that the vehicle IS hers and she DID exhibit the map. Get a better writer, Mrs M.

I also was surprised when I read her statement. It was widely published by the English speaking media.

The level of English is low in Jaffna. Maybe Mrs M cannot find any better help despite all the money she has?

The latest is that this woman wants to build a monument to Prabakaran.

The following link and video is in Tamil but a Tamil friend has confirmed that this is what she is saying.
    http://athavansrilanka.com/?p=260395

My Tamil friends on CT can correct me if I am wrong.

She seems to be saying one thing in the north for votes and another thing to the south.

      Robert.R,

“She seems to be saying one thing in the north for votes and another thing to the south.”

They all do. Our candidates also seem to add something about unitary state to avoid charges.

“I strongly believe that the solution to the racial problem, if any in our country should be found within a united Sri Lanka.”

If any? Is the situation hopeless? Or just confusing English?

So since others do the same that makes it alright? Doesn’t it come to the same thing then that whether we have the “clean” UNP or Mahinda they will be the same?

This woman is not a clean politician and if she is not clean with hardly any power (for most of her time she has been an opposition MP) then what will she do when she does have it?

        ABUSE ABUSE ABUSE !!!

Stop defending such a woman please.

          Robert.R,

“So since others do the same that makes it alright?”

          Of course not.

For some reason the background and election activities of other Jaffna candidates have not been noticed except Professor Sittambalam. He has been accused of threatening students.

What to do if all the candidates are bad apples? Choose the known devil?

I was told during the 2010 hustings she took a few thugs from South to beat up TNA supporters and she did got them hammered. Is it true EPRLF mandayan (intelligent) kulu leader was heavily beaten up in one of those islands in the North?

“I was told during the 2010 hustings she took a few thugs from South to beat up TNA supporters and she did got them hammered.”

I have heard accusations of Mrs M dealing with people who are not generally considered “clean” by others.

I do not think that she is any different from the other candidates or politicians in Jaffna or the rest of the country.

She was also caught on TV in the crowd of people in Punguduthivu when Swiss Sivakumar was tied following the rape and murder of a school girl named Vidthya up before he mysteriously appeared in a Wellawatte lodge where he was taken into custody. There were various stories current about that incident which also involved a Dean attached to the Law Faculy at Colombo University. Now it is all silent and there is no further account about what is happening in that case appears in the media as election news has eclipsed it into the back burner.
