Propaganda Secretary of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, Vijitha Herath was arrested on Monday night, and released on police bail today for crashing into a post in Rajagiriya.

He was arrested by the Welikada Police after his car crashed into an electricity post. Apart from an order to appear before Court over the incident, Herath will also be fined for damaging public property.
In March this year, Megapolis and Western Province Development Minister Champika Ranawaka was allegedly involved in an accident, which left one person critically injured. The accident also occurred in Rajagiriya, but despite Ranawaka being identified as the person driving the vehicle at the time of the accident another person was arrested and released on bail.
The Welikada police had soft-peddled the incident, despite eyewitness accounts and statements given to the effect that Ranawaka was behind the wheel. The Minister denied involvement in the accident.

Two different accidents – so two different processes should be.. CT where is the problem ? I think you are also not fair always.. even if you behaves to be different. THis nature can cost CT a lot in coming days. CT proves to be against Mr Sirisena than MR. Why ? I feel, if Ranawaka was the alleged person for that accident, courts would have worked on that accordingly, EACH and everyone to interfere in it can mislead everything in this country. Every simple simon can criticise today… Internet can transport it to air no matter truth or untruth.. I BELIEVE, … much is improved than had been in the past..

This is normal. Lot of others crash into lamp posts and trees, and they claim. that the lamp post or the tree was moving and hit them.

Was Vijitha Herath breathalysed soon after the incident?
Does his driving licence require him to wear glasses while driving?
These two essential requirements to drive on the public highway, are totally disregarded by police and hence there are many accidents happening.
Even magistrates appear to ignore these – may happen in this instance as the driver is a politico – in almost all cases.
No sane sober man will drive into a post.

I fully support you on this “JUSTICE”.
Has the police or the JMO do a breathalyser TEST and include the findings in the police or JMO’s report please. The “Rule-of-Law” should be the same to everyone whether it is a JVP parliamentarian, Government (UNP/SLFP/UPFA), any opposition party MP or the Joint Opposition MP. The JVP should PRACTICE what it preaches and set an example. The JVP or MP Vijitha Herath, an up and coming politician should not be ashamed to admit guilt, if done. Even the USA president admitted a sex crime he committed and regretted to the nation. Our politicians/parliamentarians should learn to admit their FAULT, when it had happened and tender their regret/apology to the public because they are PUBLIC REPRESENTATIVES elected by the majority votes of the “people” who represent the power of Democracy.These politicians should understand why we are writing these COMMENTS, because we are watching them.

If accident happened , it should be treated as a normal accident. If he was drunk , then he has to face the charges. There is no big gdeal about this. He is also a normal human bieng like Harin Fernando. ( Actually he is allowed to drink , but not Drink and drive) Fortunately no one hurt.No issue here!
