“We are not supported by the government as accused by many people including the media,” the chief executive officer of the Bodu Bala Sena, Dilanthe Vithanage, told Colombo Telegraph.
Vithange said that when asked for the relationship between the BBS and the Sri Lankan government, adding that “For example, we wanted to meet President Rajapaksa to discuss the issues we are raising, and we had sent 18 letters to him seeking an appointment before we got an appointment on January 27. This itself explains our relationship with the government.”
Speaking further he said, “Only the secretary to the ministry of defence responded to our letter and came to open one of our projects. That is also because our leader Ven. Kerama Vimalajothi has a relationship with him”
When asked whether the secretary to the ministry of defence is a blood relative of the Ven. Vimalajothi, Vithanage said; “I really don’t know but I know they have a long relationship.”

BBS should be doing something good. That is why this many accusations.
On the other hand, BBS should notice that if BBS or Sinhala buddhists are good to every body particularly to other religions and other cultures, Sinhala buddhists should be really bad for they themselves. If Sinhala buddhists are extremely good to they themselves (e.g Muslims or even the Church) then that should be very bad for others.
Some one has to take care of the Sinhala-buddhists Culture. I am happy that BBS is fulfilling at least part of that.

My dear friend. If you are Buddhist. You have to follow preachers of lord Buddha. and correct the society according to the teachings of Dhamma.
Here I am giving you chapter two of Dhamma.
Lord Buddha has pointed out to us that sense desires are the root-causes of quarrels, contentions, disputes and wars.
“Another root cause of quarrels and disputes is this distinction between oneself and others, considering them to be equal, or superior or inferior to oneself.
One way to appease all quarrels is the knowledge that “here in this quarrel, we perish”.
There is this truly awkward position, pointed out by Lord Buddha in the case of a person who has come to abuse those who do not abuse, who has come to revile those who do not revile, who has come to scold those who do not scold. All these abuses will naturally return to the owner who has proffered them, just as food offered but not accepted will come back to the owner.
Lord Buddha’s attitude toward quarrels and disputes is very clear. He has no quarrel with the world. His preaching of the Dhamma has the only purpose to show the way to put an end to suffering. He never claims that his Dhamma is the only truth, everything else is false. He just makes it clear to every one to come, to see and to judge by oneself”.
The best way to avoid quarrels and disputes, Lord Buddha advises, is not to uphold any fancy perceptions or false views likely to arouse disputes. Even in case that these fancy perceptions or wrong views do arise, the best way to deal with them is not to take delight in them, not to welcome them, not to take hold of them. Such an attitude will put an end to quarrels, disputes, wars and all demeritorious dhammaa (actions).
Any war, if breaking out, will bring in its trails, untold suffering. Victory engenders hatred and defeat brings up suffering. So the best way is not to resort to wars to solve disputes, but to explore all peaceful means to settle differences and conflicts.
So the Sages who are homeless will not make new ties everywhere they go. They cut off any quarrel likely to happen to anybody.

I remember reading somewhere that the rent of the BBS HQ in the Buddhist Cultural Centre is paid by a government (publicly funded) body. I cant remember exactly which one, though. Maybe the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, or Religious Affairs or Heritage. We have so many ministries now that, unlike years ago, I am totally bewildered by who’s responsible for what.
Maybe the report was incorrect about who comes up with the rent, but perhaps Mr Vithanage would like to clarify and quash the claim if it is incorrect.
As their HQ is, it is rumoured,in the Buddhist Cultural Centre, which has a huge bookshop with thousands of publications on Buddhism, could the BBS please press the shop to carry copies of Ven. Walpola Rahula’s ‘History of Buddhism in Ceylon”? The Centre has many copies of his ‘What the Buddha Taught” (reprinted, I believe by an arm of the BCC in Nedimala), but not a single copy of his history. Even Gunasena’s who reprinted the History says it is now out of print. I have tried for a long time to replace my own copy (‘lost’ to an unknown borrower), unsuccessfully. Does anyone know if the book is disapproved of by some sections of the Sangha? Can anyone suggest how i could obtain a copy, please.

This alone proves that western funding bodies are behind them even if these buggers would deny that…. authorities should act intelligently … can then reveal everything soon. Letting them to do what think is right – is a greater danger for the entire folks of the countty, I am a buddhist, anti BBS, anti Rulers and anti Rajapaskes… I am quiet confident … these buggers are being funded by Norway or any other western forces.

Dear Friends,
Buddhists (Sinhala Buddhists if anyone cares further) questioning the Bodu Bala Sena via the Dhamma. One of our biggest questions is “how can the Bodu Bala Sena, claiming to be a Buddhist organization, so blatantly violate Lord Buddha’s teachings on right speech?” Yesterday we posed this question again and got the same answer.
So much of the Dhamma is about right speech, 4 of the 10 evil acts (Dasa Akusal) is about speech, one whole factor of the Noble Eight Fold path leading to Nibbana is dedicated to Right Speech. Yet, all this is cast aside by the leaders of the Bodu Bala Sena in the name of “preserving the Dhamma”. If Buddhists in Sri Lanka allow this to continue, they will be left with a Buddhism bereft of any essence, a flower without its perfume. We will be left with temples, ancient ruins, yellow robe wearers, just symbols of Buddhism. We urge the Mahanayakas to speak up.
Sri Lankans have the greatest respect for them and only they can truly put an end to this. For today the rising face of Buddhism in Sri Lanka is Gnanasara and the Bodu Bala Sena, and the Mahanayakas continued inaction and silence isn’t helpful. If they delay further, we fear it will be too late. This is no time for half measures.
Now a word on courage and honour…there is no courage, there is no honour in the strong trampling the weak, in the majority attacking a minority. Such victories are hollow. Yesterday we saw young Sinhala Buddhists taking a stance, peacefully gathering, staying calm in the face of abuse and false accusations from the Bodu Bala Sena members, amidst the heavy hand of the police, this is courage, this is honor. This gives us hope, that in our tiny Island Nation there are people who will stand up to the might and have the courage to say “this is not right”.
“For the Blessed One, O Lord, spoke these words to me: ‘I shall not come to my final passing away, Evil Mara, until my laymen and laywomen, have come to be true disciples — wise, well disciplined, apt and learned, preservers of the Dhamma, living according to the Dhamma, abiding by the appropriate conduct, and having learned the Master’s word, are able to expound it, preach it, proclaim it, establish it, reveal it, explain it in detail, and make it clear; until, when adverse opinions arise, they shall be able to refute them thoroughly and well, and to preach this convincing and liberating Dhamma.’ (Mahaparinibbana Sutta)
