The Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) infamous for propagating anti-Muslim sentiments has claimed they have received the blessings of Mahanayake theras to field a candidate at the upcoming Presidential election.

Speaking at a media briefing yesterday, the BBS General Secretary Galagoda Atte Gnanasara had stated that it is likely they would field a candidate who can promote their agenda if they are not able to find a suitable candidate among the existing candidates.
“We will try to direct the leaders already there, on the correct path and if we fail to do so, we will come up with a new candidate who will be a national leader and support him. We have also received the blessings of the Mahanayakas for this initiative,” he had stated.
Moreover, Gnanasara had said that the BBS will be making preparations to promote the candidate of their choice by the end of September.

I think Gaanu 5 Bebadu Nanasara is more suitable as Presidential candidate as he can take the Country forward like he took a Vehicle forward after drinking whisky. The Bodu Bala Sena (BBS – translated as the Buddhist Power Force) is a radical Sinhalese Buddhist nationalist organisation based in Colombo, Sri Lanka that was formed during 2012. The BBS seeks the enforcement of Buddhist predominance in Sri Lanka. It has organised various campaigns against the country’s minority Muslim and Christian communities which, according to the organisation, poses a threat to Sri Lanka’s Sinhalese-Buddhist identity. Mahanayakes can give their blessings to all and sundry, does it really mean anything at all? Everyone of them is fallible, they are also human who make mistakes, become forgetful with old age and ultimately depart from this world. They are not divine nor angels nor immortals, although People treat them as some type of demi-gods and that is part of all the problems. They may have reached those positions through living according to Lord Buddha’s teachings, and due recognition has been given to them in that respect. But beyond that, they are just human, who need to attend to human needs to keep healthy and be alive and kicking, just like you and me. It is the Sinhala/Buddhist hegemony that we find difficult to understand. How did it come to this?
Any trouble with monks against Ministers the monks gather and complain to Mahanayake Theros and ask for their blessings, then next the offended Minister and his troupe visit the Mahanayake Theros and raise issue against those same monks who complained earlier and they are also blessed and given some advise and sent. In the end both parties have complained to the same Mahanayake Theros but the issue is still unresolved, both claiming to the people of their blessings from the ‘Great Leader’ Theros. A drama building up to a climax. What next I wonder.
