Weerawansa Arrested

Even though Prime Minister Rani Wickremesinghe had come to the rescue of Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa, he was arrested by the CID a short while ago at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) after detecting that he was travelling on an invalid passport, police said.

High drama prevailed at the Bandaranaike International Airport today when CID officers stopped National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa MP from going abroad.

Weerawansa reportedly had behaved in an unruly manner first argiving with the immigration officers and later with the CID officers who had questioned him.

Meanwhile Weerawansa explaining matters said “I came to the BIA around 3.30 am today to leave on a tour to Italy, France and UK. When I produced my passport at the immigration desk an officer said it was not valid”

“I recently lost my passport and in place of that obtained a new one. Later I found my lost passport and had mistakenly sent it to stamp the visa. However in this period I also lost the passport I had newly obtained”

“The Immigration officers told me that if I can get a new passport I could travel with the Visa stamped in my old passport. So I went to Immigration and Emigration office in Colombo and obtained a new passport and came back to BIA with the old and the new one in possession”

“However by this time CID officers were present and they stopped and questioned me despite the fact I had acted in accordance with the Immigration officers advise”

Weerawansa went on to say that he was going to Europe on an invitation extended by several organizations to conduct lectures on the prevailing situation in Sri Lanka following the government’s agreement to implement proposal contained in the recent UNHRC resolution.

Weerawansa described the incident as a clear attempt to stop him from going abroad and relaying the truth to Sri Lankan’s domiciled in Europe about the current happenings in the country.

The National Freedom Front leader said that he had got reliable information that the government was trying to arrest him.

However, an Immigration officer said that Weerawansa had behaved in a wild manner using foul language while accusing the officers of being involved in a conspiracy to arrest him.

Leader of the House, Minister Lakshman Kirielle informed parliament earlier that MP Wimal Weerawansa who was detained at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by the CID has been allowed to leave the country after Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe facilitated the legal clearance of Weerawansa’s passport.

I agree. No one should be above the law, whoever it is. I am sure Weerawansa would have asked “Do you know who I am. Knowing people know I am who”. Ranil should butt out of these situations if his credibility is to be maintained.

What a unique, wonderful Alice in Wonderland paradise country SL is, the only place in the world where the PM of the country, interferes and instructs it’s officials in it’s Immigration & Emmigration dept., to observe the law in the breach rather than adhere to the proper law.
It will not be a surprise at this rate, if the said process becomes a feature with regard to judgements made by judges in the country’s SC too.

It is also the country where the morally corrupt PM openly supports and gives his fullest backing to the CB Governor and his son-in-law who maliciously pilfered state funds in the recent bond scam.

Not at all! If this current regime can be true to the people, and true to country unity, then I am all for them. That Ranil has stepped in to let WW go for the European talks, goes to show that they are supportable.

Hope not that the bugger would faint in the Europe – being unable to digest Emperialism: hOPE NOT he will be frozen by unfamiliar tmeperatures down in Europe. THis man has been suffering from INFERIOR complex.

Can it be an excuse ? That passport went missing once and twice and thrice ?

They make laws in favour of them ?

This time baby boy is not the lap dog of MR – leaving the country by own on a normal plane ? all these are too much to the bugger. I guess.

our PM is not allowing enforcement officers to do their duties. Why our Premier also all if I am stopped by the immigration officers of having irregularities in my travel documents? Yeah we know , Law only applies to only common losers like us.

I am sick and tired of showing two faces of the law !!

Interesting. This son of the soil and patriot who looks down on the rich and claims to walk with the masses is travelling first class. I have no objection in him flying first class it is just that his mouth talks 3rd class stuff but travels first class.

Why does not he travel in third class or economy, and share the cost difference with someone’s child that needs surgery or a pair of shoes for the school or money for text books? Has he forgotten that he was a JVPer once and a representative of the under trodden masses as he always claim. Now he thinks that he does not identify with them but still wants the masses to pay for his excesses, to carry him on the first class magic carpet; such a hypocrite and traitor, shame on you to use VIP lounge, avoiding queues at the airport that we the masses have to experience. What a pathetic example you are booruwansa.

Yes, Seela the day lanken laws would be able to hang Wimal Buruwanse by his balls, the day, we will start with reconciliation of all the folks towards peace and harmony of the country.

I waspleased hearing that lanken parliament will bring new laws to ban hate speeches in terms thornful issues related to the folks. That will be a great move.
I know that GERMANS or ITALIANS dont allow the word – Asshole to be used evasively… pointing middle finger at anyone in public is a punishable act. Even accusing someone to have done anything in public wihtout evidences is highly punishable in germany. They called it you could be subjected to court case (anzeige), if anyone regardless of the status would behave so. But none of these have values in the country – turned to a bananna republic by MR. why ?

Drama Queen of SL.. What’s next he has finished his hate speeches in SL , and he wants to give hate speech in Europe as well. What a lucky fellow hoping to be the next President. Dream on .
In the mean time the PM has intervened to rescue him.

Treehorse: You are way behind knowing the “Legal System” put in place, after August 17, 2015. Our newly appointed “Prime Minister” is also the “COMBINED”, “De Facto” and “De Jure” “Chief Justice” of the country. He decides whom to “arrest”; “release”; “pardon” ; and “how to charge”, “on what to investigate”;etc….etc.. Haven’t we achieved that status of “Miracle Of Asia” that which could not be achieved by the the ex President Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse? Please cheer us on our great ACHIEVEMENTS. Thank you.

This is very bad news for our motherland. Our great hero is leaving us at a time when we need him the most, with the imperialist wolves baying at our door and some of our leaders trying to unlock the door for them.

All I can say right now is:

    Please Don’t Go..Tum de Tum Tum..Please Don’t Go..Plinkety..Plom.. Plom

    Please Don’t Go..Tum de Tum Tum..Please Don’t Go..Plinkety..Plom..Plom

    Please …. Oh…… Please…. Don’t GOH!

I Dont blame this Plonker Weerawansa. There were some 300,000 preferential votes cast for him,and that too,in the most Literate District-Colombo.It is just this that gives him the confidence to be high-handed.
What does all this indicate? Where is Srilanka heading with these Lawless legislators?
The PMs attempt to save Weerawansa is another scandal!

Wimal Weeravansa is on a trip to western countries at the invitation of various groups representing the Sinhales Diaspora and campaign against the UN report.

Will there be transparency on what he speaks and on the hidden agenda to undermine the reconcilliation initiated by the international community ?

If he makes hate speeches, Can he be prosecuted as per the constitution of the respective countries and the international laws ?

Is he going to have secret meetings with dual citizenship holders who were holding higher positions in the MR regime ?

Is he going to appeal to the Sinhalese Diaspora to be patriotic to SL and return to SL for good ?

This is how the ‘high and mighty’ have been traveling around and opening bank accounts abroad to horde their ill gotten wealth. Knowing that the CID is hot on the heels of the “plunderers of wealth”, Weerawansa’s trip may have been to transfer his black money to other secret accounts.

      • 4

If Wimal Buruwanse belongs to High And Mighty- even the dogs of Ranil should be given that status.

Wimal Buurwanse is a problem to lanken folks for the last few years. He should be removed from association with normal folks – if we at all make efforts to sustainable solution to lanken minority problems.

This man has no knoweldge about anyhting but to turn the mind sets of the guilliable people- is a curse to this nation. Better to put the bugger im prison for all the rest of his life – allowing peace loving folks to fractions to allow work on that.

Listen folks, the pseudo patriot is going to imperial UK and France to lecture whom and that mind you in the 1st Class. I doubt whether there would be anyone in UK or France to finance him to travel 1st Class. I do know folks that Prime Minister Mrs. Bandaranaike traveled Economy Class in the 1970s on official duties. Here is Berawaya traveling 1st class with his looted monies when in the Government helped by that biggest crook MARA.In the late 1950s his father had to travel barefooted even as a dancing teacher.

Are there really illiterates who invite this character to anything, let alone paying for his first class ticket?

And, what is the point of Ranil playing ‘good cop’. If the laws were violated, the penalty must be endured. Will Ranil call if I was at the airport with an expired passport. Hell no!

Ranil – you owe an explanation to those who voted for you on this. Why did you not allow the Immigration officer and CID to make a decision on this?

Wimal was not going on an official mission for you or for the Government. As he clearly admitted he was going on an invitation by private organizations abroad.

Why did you see the need for a higher-level administrative intervention by no-less-than the Prime Minister himself? Is this the way you will do your administrative duties going forward – interfering with the duties of other senior administrative officers willy-nilly at your will, and not allow them to carry on with the details of their duties, that they are better trained for and more acquainted with than you are?

Please justify your action if you have any respect for the trust we have placed on you.

“HE” the “Giant Of A Patriot” was brought before Negambo courts and “Bailed Out”. I saw him walking out in smile in the company of the most “Eminent Lawyer” in the BAR of all times, Mr. Namal Rajapakse. So let us wait and see what the outcome would be. Hopefully, now that we have an Independent Police Commission in place, plus the Judiciary will act in the most judicious way and send out a strong signal to all concerned – THE LAW OF THE COUNTRY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED OR MADE AN “ASS”

First class ticket for a man who hadn’t even got Olevels? Class Y is economy. This shows Class I. What is that?
And he’s only an opposition MP, WHY the goddamned hell does he have a diplomatic passport?

    • 0
      0

      Tassimo,

“WHY the goddamned hell does he have a diplomatic passport?”

I believe that all MPs, their spouses and young children (under 21?) have the right to have a diplomatic passport.

Even the wife of WW should be able to receive a new diplomatic passport if she manages to provide correct documentation and has not been black listed.

How many passports and NICs have WW and his wife been issued during the last years?

  • 1
    0

This guy seems to be loosing passports at a rate that is considered an important personal document. He also had problems with his NIC. It appears that he is loosing his mental capacity as well. No wonder he was loosing public money in the ministries he was responsible for in the last government.

    • 0
      0

He is loosing his passport as no other would face it. Can you imagine, his arguments on the issue – if he cant be exemplary with that most valuable documents for the identity, how can this bugger ever be able to be exemplempary as a politician ?

This proves his civilized nature. By hook or crook he is making every effort to win things ? THat he could in MR world, but being unable to be successful with that today – he is so malicious.

“The Immigration officers told me that if I can get a new passport I could travel with the Visa stamped in my old passport. So I went to Immigration and Emigration office in Colombo and obtained a new passport and came back to BIA with the old and the new one in possession”

Looks like we have a really fast service to issue diplomatic passports for MPs. Was not WW charged with fraud 2 days ago?

There is a fine for loosing passports. Hope that WW has paid it.

Ranil should have avoided helping WW.

Thanks for the CID and Dept of Immigration and Emigration for having stopped WW. At the same time WW might have emigrated permanently and we would be better off without him.

No one is above the law. If anyone should not have the relevant documents in order and if they misbehave and try to use their Positions that the people voted them into, they need to be dealt with just like you and I would be dealt with. This is not negotiable. What rubbish is this????. Who does Ranil think he Is?. This is not your little club house, Ranil!!!. You may think your the boss but come next election you won’t be shone any mercy. So wise the @&$# up!!!!
