Why Is AKD Of JVP Free Without Imprisonment? [This Is To Clear So Many Clouds Of Confusion]

By Rehan Fernando –

Rehan Derrick Fernando

Background for the discussion

It was in the year 2017 that I accidentally took part in an essential meeting representing my dean of the faculty in a restaurant at Kiribathgoda. It was organized by an academic team of the University of Kelaniya, and the meeting was to form NPP in a more technical procedure. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of JVP came for the meeting because he was considered the main figure. During the meeting, I mean that was the peak moment of our discussion, I raised a question for which Anura slightly threw an idea, but it was not so satisfactory. Amidst some of the objections, I truly supported NPP though I was not in Sri Lanka after 2018 [went to the US for studies]. I was quite helpful for my team to arrange certain meetings for NPP in Jaffna. That’s how we began a movement.

But what has happened to NPP and Anura particularly?

Many suffered except Anura

If we take the last decade of this country, many good men and women came forward to take this country to better legal control and show the right direction to the public. Unfortunately, what happened to those persons? Where are they? Some were expelled, killed, massacred, kidnapped, and many others were imprisoned, labeled as terrorists, etc. What are those mechanisms? Why do such illegal formalities exist in Sri Lanka at present?

Now, Anura Kumara, as a minister representing JVP has been in the parliament for many years and of course as the leader of JVP. He has been criticizing and critically giving evidence for many wrong-turns of the Rajapaksaa regime, Gotabaya’s regime, and Ranil’s cruel decisions that violated the constitution. We have enough records for Anura’s counterarguments and NPP public meetings.

Following the above-mentioned issue, why don’t our ordinary people understand by now Anura must be in prison but not yet happened? Why is that so? Are citizens of this country dull of hearing or fully blind? If we still extend these questions: I would ask mothers and father of this nation; where are your children who dreamed of a better society? Are they living with you today? No, but how about Anura Kumara Dissanayake? He is still alive. Your critical thinking must begin right now from here.

Spoiling a good soup

Anura is regenerating a strong voice through NPP conferences and public meetings. He is radically critical of many sub-cultures that were primarily promoted by the Rajapaksa regime and later at the hands of Ranil. However, in my view, Anura is spoiling a better soup.

Analyzing history, we encounter many leaders who have shouted at public meetings, some were of course like wild bores. Those leaders have gained nothing except their nonsense words and deeds. Most of the Sri Lankans live a poor life in most of the villages. Poverty still exists. The bus conductors are screaming to hunt passengers every day. drugs and their dealers are so common in every town now. Moral behavior is gone to the drains of cities. The police violate the law of the country more than people. The Supreme Court judges do not know how to make the right decisions, instead, they work for political mechanisms. The parliament has become a dog cage. Anura does not have a clear vision to stop these crises, and he cannot do so if I reveal the truth in my argument because Anura is another production of the prevailing system. So, neither the Rajapaksaa family nor Ranil and his beloved wife would imprison Anura. Anura is a playboy for all those regimes.

Therefore, what Anura spoils is nothing but our soup that is to be taken for our dinner. We struggle a lot nowadays both economically and politically. We haven’t done anything wrong to go through such a nasty situation that kills our children. I am referring not to elections but to corruption. Likewise, many innocents live in the same conditions. So, Anura is spoiling our soup, I would strongly tell him now STOP!

“Life is a tragedy in Close-up and a Comedy in Long Shot”

A great personality Charley Chaplain made the above statement. Chaplain, in my understanding, reveals the naked truth of life when we see it and reflect on it more closely. It is full of dirty steps even. However, years after or when we see them from a distant location, we can enjoy the sense of humor of those events. Yet, we Sri Lankans have suffered enough, doesn’t matter whether it is a close-up or long shot. We live in a graveyard. That’ is my concluding remark for this article. I never deny what the Chaplain said, but I am showing the other side of the Chaplain’s truth.

I don’t know how far Anura would understand this statement. Therefore, I would recommend Anura to watch a series of episodes of Chaplain’s comedies. Surely that exercise will reveal the truth, especially not to jump into our kitchen and spoil our soup. Anura is living more freely while others are killed, disappeared, imprisoned, etc. Anura must read this truth in between the lines. He is stupidly shouting to show his personality. But he has already shown his foolishness. What we need is not a mega crowd for elections, but better groups to develop our communities.

Rehan Fernand: I took some snippets from your article viz. “It was in 2017….in a restaurant at Kiribathgoda……..Anura Kumara leader of the JVP came for the meeting because he was considered the main figure………That’s how we began the movement……I truly supported NPP”.

Thank you for taking me to a very distant past, really to my kindergarten days where my teacher -Mrs. Dayawathi Manawadu made us laugh and laugh having told us the story: The Fox and the Sour Grapes. When I read through your article, I really gathered how that fantastical story of “Fox and the Sour Grapes” proves the REALITY in life.

You said: ” I truly supported NPP”. Are you still? If NOT, that takes my mind to a poem in the book “Guththila” (prescribed for the subject Sinhala Literature in my “O” Level) “Ane Moosila Nodutu Mokpura” ( What a Moosila who could not realize the Hevean)

Thank you again for REAWAKENING my long-lost memories.

I was wondering about that too. After all the terrible things that has happened to our country, there should have been a violent uprising by now with Anura at the helm!

Previous governments were experimenting with all kinds of capitalistic things, but it never came to what the Rajapaksas did : Gambling all of the money of the struggling Masses on international Offshore Accounts (money masses had slaved for, for generations)! It all vanished of course into things like the Ukraine War. And they are now actually trying to secure the little left via Lankan Billionaires and IMF loans, by selling to India via Ranil!

Does Anura K. have an agenda in place for the ultimate removal of these crooks and traitors? Or is he merely part of a Socialist Culture to sit howling and pounding fists for the heck of it.

      Dear RTF,
      .
      I fear
that we may have to wait a whole year before AKD decides to seriously challenge the Usurper.
      .
Ranil has proved himself to be a wily customer. What he’s been doing is not all that difficult, I guess, if a guy has neither conscience nor principles. I’m sure that AKD himself must be having misgivings about the effectiveness of what he’s doing. Ultimately, I trust him to do what is right and sensible. You know this thing about too many cooks ………….
      .
We have to be patient. As a quick way to indicate what I think about your comment, I gave it a Red Thumbs down, but I know you to be sincere.
      .
But what a worm this Rehan fellow is! I think that I will make one more comment, and never read anything else written by him.

So, this comment is from the author, Rehan Derrick Fernando.
          .
I said that you are a worm only in a metaphorical sense. I’m disgusted with your article. It is after 3.00 am, I will say more tomorrow.
          .
After that I’ve resolved never to read you again. That resolution may be broken.

You are doing a lot of damage to this country. Ramona is not doing so.

This is why we have to be very careful with politicians. I’m not a politician.
          .
Anura Kumara Dissanayake is a politician; a good one, and also a good man!
          .

                Raj and OC,

In his teenage years, SM has not learned to be patient. If one stands against AKD, he will go mad. Can someone please help teach him the basics of this life?

His repulsive nature is unwelcome also by his own family. That is why he lives in a cell in Bandarawella… that is my assumption. Without knowing my details, he calls me a German Citizen, brownies-hater etc. Not even my teenage nephew behaves like that… to tell you the truth.
Besides, I don’t care if someone supports AKD or not, I should have my own opinion about the current situation in our country. I’m not dumb enough to let AKD or such control the cry babies. Some good monks have balls to say it today ” that whole lot of people in this country regardless their race, religion and others are real stupid thinkers”:

Mostly, the content is off topic addressed by the author. Hindians have landed on the difficult part of moon and fired today a rocket to Sun even though they lacked Toilets,…. however you are still advising AKD to do this that and the other.

Why are you jealous about Hindian’s achievements?

What?!!! I’m reveling in their achievements! I am the only one….yes,…..the only one on CT who congratulated them. Ahhh…we are a large part Indian genes after all. It’s the Hindu caste system thing that won’t resonate with our ancient enduring egalitarianism Buddhist culture.

Destroying ancient mystical RamSethu to buy and sell cheap trinkets between India and Sri Lanka will only immerse us with the suffering Indian masses. It won’t immerse us with the eugeniced brain of the Indian rocket scientists. By the time ADK decides to move and act after Ranil stalls elections for yet another year, The Bridge would have built with Indian troops coming over it to whip us into working for the Indian Mars-walk.

I will not be so harsh on AKD as he is at least pointing out to the Sinhala masses about the crimes committed by SLFP/UNP/SLPP led governments. All the uprisings by Singhalese or Tamils HAVE NOT brought a SYSTEM & CULTURAL CHANGES to the Isle.
Have those who were killed and maimed sacrificed in VAIN?

Are you asking AKD to commit suicide? ……. He has learned from past JVP mistakes and learned to survive.

He is playing a smart game to win the next election. …….. If Ranil is brave enough to hold the election on the due date.

I don’t believe in the JVP or any Lankan ……. but as Lankans go, in the present situation, AKD is the best out of all the rotten scoundrels ……..

I hope he wins ……. it’ll be a break from the past.

“…. but as Lankans go, in the present situation, AKD is the best out of all the rotten scoundrels ……..”

Maybe AKD is personally a good man, who has been sitting on the fence for a long time however as elections approach its time for him to chose sides.

Yesterday this is what he said about police powers:
“Our party does not agree on the sharing of police power as the police department in Sri Lanka is completely politicized. But our party is ready to talk about land ownership.”
      – JVP leader and Member of Parliament Anurakumara Dissanayake said this.

“Eight Trillion in Debt: 2 Trillion in Projects Done”
      https://mawbima.lk/2023/08/29/eight-trillion-in-debt-2-trillion-in-projects-done/

As an MP he had all kind of powers and access to information within and outside Sri Lanka. It is difficult to obtain information about functionaries and politicians the question if whether he used all powers available to him to investigate corruption, for example Right to Information (RTI) Act. Did he follow money trail?

During 2018 October coup AKD was reluctant to vote Mahinda Rajapaksa out of holding prime ministerial office.

He hasn’t asked/told his former DJV colleagues/comrades to surrender all the arms that they had at the time of …. whatever.

During the time of JVP terrorism many of its members were killed by Army death squad. Some ran away to India. Some of the comrades joined the armed forces. AKD always opposed armed forces being investigated by commission that includes foreign officials, knowing very well his former comrades who joined the armed forces would be in trouble he always objected to the idea of commissions made up of foreigners. He could not go against his party men.

            NV,
We know very well that Sinhala Buddhism is the cancer of Sri Lanka. Actually, if the ycould control over it , things would have been much nicer for the country. What steps would JVP take to change the current sitatuion in terms of the sinhala buddhism and its interference in mlechcha politics ?

So far, JVP has deliberately ignored how it will engage with Sinhala Buddhists and Buddhist monks if it becomes the next force. Do they treat everyone equally when it comes to religious rights?I think Poya days should no longer be observed as public holidays. They all need to start working hard because they need to focus on productivity to get out of the pit they fell into.

“Why Is AKD Of JVP Free Without Imprisonment?”
Your question is valid. Even the former Univerisity student leader was in imprisionment but not AKD. It means sofar AKD is not a significant threat to Rajapaksas and Ranils. Even he can’t increase the number from 3 in the parliament. The fact is that AKD do not have a policy about Buddhist Sinhala Fundamentalism or he can’t talk or act against Maha Sangha. Maha Sangha is closely associated with bankgruptcy, violence and corruption.

    • 7

Ajith, Put sangha back into boxes which they belong to. Let government be carried out in parliamentary procedure where all citizens are equal before the law.

    • 6
      3

Ajith: Either you are far behind what happens in Sri Lanka or willingly ignore the new developments. For your information, AKD of NPP addressed a meeting of Buddhist Priests (more than five hundred including Chiefs of various sects) and said: ” A Government of NPP will not be involved in fostering any religion, but would be open to discussion and welcome any advice”.That speech was given wide publicity in both print and Social Media. No religious authorities of any religion have expressed any concerns, displeasure, or objection to that statement. Not even the Buddhist Priests assembled in that said anything against that public statement. Didn’t you hear that or opted to ignore it? That speech lasted for more than one hour and in that, he spelled out answers to all your questions in your comment. Unfortunately, that speech was in Sinhala.
I will come back to that question of “Fundamentalism” in a separate comment.

      • 4
        2

        Douglus,
Yourself said that the speech is in Sinhala. Was there any translation? Was it in English or Tamil media? Yes It may be a good speech, but You did not give any actions or protests against Buddhists who are creating anti Hindu or anti Muslim propaganda and land grabing. A good example is what is happening in “Kurunthoor malai” of Mullaitivu. I am sure you are fully aware of it. You know Mahinda Rajapaksa promised publicly in front of Secretary General of United Nations that he will go beyond 13+. Ranil and Srisena also promised to remove the executive Presidency. You have to proof in the field!

        • 3
          3

Ajith: Yes that speech was in Sinhala and addressed to the congregation of Buddhist Priests. Yes, he said very clearly: “An NPP Government will not mix politics with any religion, but only would listen to any advice given by the clergy of any religion”.Please trust me, no one in the congregation protested and so far no one (religious leaders or any civil society) has expressed any comment or criticism. Do you know why? The PEOPLE are fed up with this “Religious” rouges interference in Governmental affairs. They have learned the bitterest lessons and they won’t tolerate it anymore. Period.
Re. your reference to “Kurunthoormalai”. Who brought up this issue? None other than the President who said: ” Why there must be land even larger than that belongs to Mahavihara? He even questioned the Government Officials.and asked what reasons there to have such an extent of land belonging to Kurunthoormalai. Do you know why he raised this issue? He had the “FOXY” idea to crack up an issue between the Sinhala Buddhists and Tamils. He had FAILED in this “FOXY” attempt.
Take my word. No one *Rajapakses, UNP/SJB/SLFP will succeed in cracking up the “Religious Cult” into politics anymore I am happy NPP has realized this and has decided to make it public that NPP will NOT mix up Governing with religion.

In my understanding, Buddha has set out certain rules for the monks. They are not expected to posses any thing of material value & expected to live a simple life, providing spiritual guidance to those in need. Maybe AKD is not a Buddhist or unaware of the role of monks but he doesn’t seem to have the guts to say this to those “Religious” rouges you refer to. Not the NPP but the JVP. Yes, it is called the National Bhikku Front. The NPP of course is a front to display a user-friendly face of the JVP.

          Ajith,
          .
AKD speaks in public only in Sinhala. I have discussed some of the problems that arise from this in this article. which will stop accepting comments about 2.00 pm today:
          .
          https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/the-economy-politics-a-reality-check/
          .
When I met him, in Badarawela, on 21/02/2023, I was fortunate to have an undisturbed five minute chat with him. I said that he should stick to Sinhalese since otherwise he ran the risk of local people making fun of him.
          .
That particular meeting was entirely in Sinhala. That was OK, since that meeting was for the business community. All Tamil businessmen in this country (well, outside the Northern Province) know Sinhala, so that was all right for that particular meeting.
          .
However, at the end of the meeting I told him during Question Time that we are not reaching out sufficiently to Tamil speakers. He acknowledged the problem, but what solution can there be? If you get convinced that the NPP is the best option for us, you could volunteer to do some speaking. The need for English is less.
          .

            Sinhala_Man/Douglas,
I am not a politician or belong to any political party or moment. I strongly believe that the island of Sri Lanka belongs to Tamils, Sinhalese and Muslims, not for one community. I am not against JVP/NPP or any other political party but in my opinion NPP or Anurakumara may be different from traditional SLFP/SLPP or UNP/SJB but NPP/Anurakumara have not done enough to convince all communities. For example when something goes wrong against Tamils or Muslims by oppressive Buddhists, they are far away from those people. why?

              Ajith,
“they are far away from those people. why?”
The JVP knows who its vote base is. It will never endanger that by openly opposing racists.

“…when something goes wrong against Tamils or Muslims by oppressive Buddhists, they are far away from those people. “
We will always remember the negative things.
Can we make some effort to give credit to those who were braver than even the Tamil and Muslim leaders on critical issues?

Of course my Elders remember S W R D Banda hiding in one of the Navy Ships during critical time in 1958. In recent years Rajapaksa Royals were looking for places to hide, …. During the time of IPKF occupation Sri Lankan armed forces were hiding behind their women folks and VP’s fat bump.

I remember reading this tale from your ancestor once earlier.
The man who did anything like that was his predecessor during Hartal-1953.

Some of your elders do have rather distorted memories.

Self-proclaimed NPP warrior of the day, sinhala man@

Btw, why couldn’t you, as their GURU, ask AKD why they don’t use “interpreters” for his public lectures? Perhaps you were suffering from same health problems in that very moment ?

There are plenty of NPPs who can simultan-interpret work for him, right? If European leaders (German and French leaders) are constantly accompanied by “interpreters”, why hasn’t anyone who doesn’t speak another language thought of the option yet ? Prabakaran did?I think Tamil brothers would explain, that Prabakaran had good interpreters back and forth, while he is exchanging with north europeans.

LM, interpreters are used, but it’s slow, clumsy, and gets frustrating.

I don’t suppose that you’re in a position to give us a link to the YouTube of AKD addressing the monks. This is the problem with having so many videos, and when I search, I do so in English.

Ajith: What is wrong with “Fundamentalism”? I would welcome the followers of all religions to adhere to the FUNDAMENTALS of their own religions and become “FUNDAMENTALISTS”. Since you referred to “Buddhist Sinhala Fundamentalism”, I would give a glimpse of its “Fundamentals”.

    1. IMPERMANENCE – Noting is permanent and all (including this planet Earth) are subject to change.
    2. The FOUR PILLARS: (1) METTA (Loving Kindness) (2) KARUNA (Compassion) (3) MUDITA (Altruistic)(4) UPEKKHA (Equanimity)
    3. UDPADA (Birth) THITHI (Exist) BANGA (Death)
    4. PANNA (Wisdom) SILA (Discipline) BAVANA (Consciousness)

What is wrong with following at least (Minimum) of the above FUNDAMENTALS and SINHALESE becoming SINHALA FUNDAMENTALISTS?

    That is my opinion.

      What is wrong with “Fundamentalism”?
What you have given is a list of priciples of original Buddhism of Lord Buddha (Gautama) but what is practiced in Sri Lanka is not the same. Do you think the followers of Buddhism in Sri Lanka believe and practice what is taught by Lord Buddha? What is the relationship between Sinhalese and Buddhism and Sri Lanka? The different Sinhalese Maha sangha groups in Sri Lanka say that they are the real buddhists. Mahinda Rajapaksa says his family is a real Buddhists? Even Sarath weerasekara and Mervin de Silva says they are the real buddhists. Are you saying that the practical buddhism in this land by the above are Fundamentalism?
I am not against to Buddhism or any other religion. Do you think that only Sinhalese of this land can protect Buddhism or follow buddhism?

Ajith: There is a big difference between “Fundamentals” and “Principles”. The “Fundamentals” are the FOUNDATION on which the entire structure (Religion etc.) is built. The “Principles” do come within that STRUCTURE. Please think of that.

Just because a FEW (of course an influenced gang) play truants, please don’t throw that covering on all of the majority who have been silenced by an “Influential Gang” They (that Gang) are NO MORE. Have you heard any of them recently? Trust me. The PEOPLE have learned the lesson.

Fundamentalism has a certain political connotations that transcend adherence to fundamentals.
An important aspect of it is intolerance.

        1

SJ: Thanks. Your interpretation of Fundamentalism is by looking at the behavioral patterns of “Extremists” who make use of fundamentals for their own criminal activities. As I explained “Fundamentals” are the FOUNDATION of any Religion or any other philosophy/science etc..

The term ‘fundamentalism’ generally refers to people who take fundamentals to their logical extreme, and not to people who are rational and reasonable that you have in mind

SJ: Thank you for reconfirming what I said. I said: “Fundamentalism” is used by criminals”. You said the same differently” Fundamentals” use it to their logical extreme”.

Dear SJ, you’re right, and Douglas, we’ll have to re-examine the term.

Finally, a critic of AKD & a ‘founder member’ of the NPP too. I don’t know if AKD has committed a crime to be banged up in jail but this may be a sign of disillusionment among members of a coalition of many parties with different, probably, even conflicting visions & objectives.
Apart from promising holding those responsible for the corruption & mismanagement accountable, the NPP, despite boasting of its academic membership, have not come out with a comprehensive political manifesto, clearly outlining their strategy, particularly, about the economic recovery & raising of funds for development. Looking forward to a response to Rehan Fdo.

“I don’t know if AKD has committed a crime to be banged up in jail”
      That is a sound point.
It should not be mixed up with the failure of a party or its leader to live up to the expectations of the public.
I think that Rehan Fdo has gone a little over the top here.

Do we have a choice between Indian or Chinese national anthems?

As far as I am concerned, national anthems only glorify the perception. Former UK Labour leader Corbyn refuse to sing the British national anthem because of its allegiance to the monarchy & the outdated glory of ‘Britannia ruling the waves’. I would prefer a world without boundaries but as long as there are rich countries & poor countries, politicians will play the nationalistic card to entice dumb voters.

If it is the case why are the poor dumb asses in this island, since 1948 while begging for food, medicine, fuel, …………. playing the nationalistic card?

Even in this day in time Ganapathipilla, Wimale, … Weerasekera, …. could pull crowd by lying, and spitting racism, … Wimale wants India to stop meddling in the North East to stop China being annoyed.

That is my point. Trump does it in the States & we have our own. Boils down to dumb voters who can be easily influenced, misguided, misinformed or plain stupid to see beyond the nationalistic rhetoric. If there are no rich & poor countries, there will no mass immigration, refugees or war but that utopian state is only a fantasy.

The national anthem of Sri Lanka is about the most secular that one may imagine. No race, religion, ethnicity, person or deity is mentioned.
          *
The Indian national anthem below is not at all chauvinistic:
Thou art the ruler of the minds of all people,
          Thou Dispenser of India’s destiny.
Thy name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sind, Gujrat and Maratha,
          Of Dravid, Orissa and Bengal.
It echoes in the hills of the Vindhyas and Himalayas,
Mingles in the music of Jamna and Ganges and is chanted by
the waves of the Indian sea.
They pray for Thy blessings and sing thy praise.
The saving of all people waits in thy hand,
          Thou Dispenser of India’s destiny,
          Victory, Victory, Victory to Thee.
(Tagore had no military victory in mind at the time I guess.)

We sing the national anthem at all the events but do we really abide by it?

Many in UK think the British National anthem is outdated but it is not sung at every ceremony or at the end of every day as in SL. At my UK citizenship ceremony, I refused to pledge allegiance to the queen but to Britain as a country & the pledge was modified accordingly.

            • 1
              1

You told us just a few days ago that Jeremy Corbyn refuses to sing it.
              .
That was consistency of principle. However, whilst acknowledging his total opposition to the monarchy, he had personally had a good relationship with Elizabeth II.
              .
Great to hear how you managed to get the pledge modified at your citizenship ceremony.

Is there much to abide by in any song that merely celebrates a nation?
At most it declares loyalty to the nation.
But the line “God save the K/Q” is still there. They cannot get much past their colonial attitudes.
              So much for democracy.

My point here is not what AKD has committed, but why is he free compared to others? Why Eknaligoda had suffered?

The answer is that we are in systematic error in which we justify AKD and condemn the others or imprison them. Those so called progressive group make the same mistake.

The day JVP decided to enter the legislature which they still brand it as the den of
thieves , was the day they decided ‘ to do as Romans do when you are in Rome ‘ .
You got another saying that could justify my point , ‘ If you go to a Bat’s wedding ,
you got to be swinging on a tee branch ‘ . JVP and whatever other PPs are not
capable of winning people trained by the corrupt system . What JVP is doing today
is what once JRJ , Gamini , Premadasa , Prince Gunasekara , N M and Colvin did .
The difference is JVP had an underground history . The path to democracy in our
country , for a long time to come , won’t change hands . Frustrated people have
been allowed to rally behind anyone who can comfort them by non violent means
and the JVP is happily doing the job at the moment .

How could you lump together “JRJ , Gamini , Premadasa , Prins Gunasekara , NM and Colvin”?

Tje JVP’s tragedy is that it still lacks the courage to self-criticize its dark past– not its violence so much but its anti-people actions and sectarian approach inherited from RW (not the President).

PART ONE of the FIFTY PARTS that are planned.
    .
This metaphorical worm is literally a masochist. I’ve looked at his previous articles, and they confirm it. He’s obsessed with another sick area of life – religions. I used to feel sorry because he looks so miserable with his thick glasses and so forth, a sort of Eeyore.
    .
Feeling sorry for the guy, I’ve usually made kind comments about many of his articles. For instance, here:
    .
    https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/could-anura-be-the-ghost-of-mahinda/.
    .
    No more!
    .
Our lives are short; I don’t want to die – to go into nothingness. These religious nuts can’t face up to that! I feed on animals; no, not more than others, but we arbitrarily accord other humans a place of honour. We are not cannibals. I may be a ‘sinner” for feasting on animals; I have not killed anything bigger than a rat. The rat must know its place, if it crosses my path, I kill it.
    .
Panini Edirisinhe (NIC 483111444V) – on course to expand these parts into the longest comments ever to appear on Colombo Telegraph.

      PART TWO

I have called this masochist fellow metaphorically a worm. Let me not confuse other readers by now calling him a rat, or a snake! A snake kills and eats only because that’s how he has evolved. His tribe have to hide in the grass, because they can’t otherwise catch the rats. They are nobler by far than this metaphorical worm.
      .
Whoever wrote Genesis (the favourite candidate is Moses), but did he ever live, literally? Moses is credited with having written too many books and on stone tablets, which he was in the habit of destroying when he was furious. I am more furious than the mythical Moses ever was! What! He wants the noblest of men thrown into gaol. Anyway, that author wanted to single out the snake for bringing misery into the world; John Milton followed suit.
      .
Many thoughts run through my mind, but if I try to put my stream of thoughts on to Colombo Telegraph it will expand into a book as long as Tolstoy ever wrote.

    leelagemalli ,

The most interesting point in my comment is , first two lines that speaks a
volume . Comparing them to some of our leaders Left and Right was about
their oratory skill . They are very good speakers . They stick to the point in
their speeches . I do not find many wrongs with their criticism of current
and past leaders as far as governance is concerned . My issue is , they are
promising to do the reforms by going through the same channels the past
and present corrupt leaders (in their terms) used , the same parliamentary
democracy which is eating cake for the leaders we had and already having .
