Wimal Weerawansa Remanded

Colombo Fort magistrate has ordered Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa to be remanded till January 24th on charges that he misused 40 state vehicles. Weerawansa was arrested this morning by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID).

Speaking to journalists outside the FCID building this morning, prior to entering the FCID, Weerawansa claimed that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had ordered the FCID to arrest him today.
“Based on the information we have received, the FCID is preparing to put me behind bars today. Just before going abroad, Wickremesinghe has ordered for the arrest of me and several others,” he said. Weerawansa also added that these political motivated arrests were not going to stop him or the others in their fight against this government.

Weerawansa had allegedly misused state vehicles when he was the Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities. Last year, his brother, Sarath was also arrested and remanded on charges of misusing state vehicles.wimal

Has a prime minister have the powers to get someone arrested.
It is good news that someone is made accountable but the way it is done may be wrong.
RW must excel in the rules of the Carlton Club. Do this in a fairer manner. If the cops and other authorities are not doing their job then he must sack them.

I think this man never had the chance to learn what is right and what is wrong. Along to have been a school drop out proves not to own a knowledge even compared to average person who had the chance to complete of 12 or 13 years of schooling name of the free education.
From the day one, he promoted their thugs and men who he thought would be useufl to come to lanken spotlight.
The kind of men to allow lanken politics is a greater failure, the harm the mouth pieces have done promoting all high criminal like politicians are enomrmous.
Anyways, at least today, the man should be given a training how his wording could harm this nation.
I thought lanken new govt would take the man immediately they came to power. Now with 2 years passed even if he is proved to have done in the eyes of general public, he is not yet punished, That was nothing else, Passport issue. How can a person of his level is allowed to have two passports. If that was the case in Germany or any other part of the world where law and order is rigaorously beeing functioned, things would have been very differen to NFF bugger.

Simon, in Sri Lanka all these politicians can get away with anything…

Have you not heard about this “Game of Shape” (cover up) that our beloved country is famous for internationally!?

This government is so bad at protecting the criminals that it is so obvious to everyone….

Why are the more serious crimes not being taken up!?

What happened to the 18 Billion $ that the Rajapaksas stole!?

What is happening about Wasim Thajudeen murder!?

What happened to Avant Garde maritime services being used by Rajapaksas to sell weapons with their serial number scratched to terrorists!?

All SHAPE don’t worry we will cover it all up Mahinda Mama!!?

This is the first ever consensual govt we ever had, so how can you compare them with previous govts ?

It is like compare earth with the mooon or not ?
I think, today, both parties have to take care of them while contriubuting govt moves forward. So any filthy could disturb the other.
They cant go against anything so vehimently, since one leg is on other side… both may feel sitting between two chairs.

Leelawathie, not comparing this government to the previous one.

Yes they are much better no arguments about that but they have failed to keep the promise that brought them into power…

They are intentionally dragging all the criminal cases against the Rajapaksas criminal network, some have even been slowly dropped maybe hoping the people will forget about them…

And there seems to be an unwillingness to take action on the serious offenses and giving publicity to lesser crimes like this to show they are taking action…

What is the punishment for holding multiple passports or forged ones!?

Monks are not arrested for making Death threats or threatening to incite violence surly there is jail time for those offenses!?

This uneducated Gr.9 school drop out is the vociferous speaker to MR.

MR gave top posts to these kind of thugs to steal the country’s wealth.

How can a Gr.98 dropout became a Minister in the Engineering field by passing so many University qualified Engineers without employment and leaving the country to find employment abroad.

Wimal W. had the most important qualification for the Rajapakses – thuggery. This is the only qualification you’d need for all of the crimes that regime committed on our citizens for 9 years.

All rogues are allowed to keep their loot from former President downwards to grass roots. Otherwise, how would the current rogues in the government could justify what they are looting now. All this carnival is just to manipulate the people. This bugger will be out of jail, given passport back may be later this week.

Yes it does not matter if the Rajapaksas are criminal and killed a few Sinhalese too…

We have some warped logic in the heads of most Sri Lankans…

As the one who presided over a war against Demelas (a poddi dutta gamani), and won it single handedly he has every right to loot, kill, white van, …. expect you to leave your door open, …..

On the other hand we don’t want to discuss his role in massacre of innocent youth between 1987 and 1990.

Since it is connected with new purchases of the vehicles.

And many of the cars that have been used by previous men are scattered in the country so that new vehicles need to be imported. There are no records intact so that anyone can trace where those vehicles have been.

Not single thing they have left seem can be traceable.
So that is no second to high profile money desposits in Dubai Bank that Yoshita Rajaakshe is believed to have withrawan over 500 million of dollars on his way to Australia. He has to answer the questions once he is back inthe country.

Regime was changed into a Govt.

      President has relinquished some powers.

Parliament is relatively made powerful – but this has just been compared to the previous parliament where no ministers had powers but Rajapakshe family

Today we see, PM led caibinet ministers are ruling the country – while President indirectly support the moves

However, some ministers of the govt are not happy their strengths have not been made useful for the making decisions

Most of all -ground structures with preivous authoriteis remain as before.

Why cant they the rulers take actions where stake is there yet – though 2 years out of 5 years (40%) ?

Why the law and order has been lagged somewhere against HIGH PROFILE fraudsters remain UNANSWERED ?

THE GOVERNMENT COULDN’T CONVICT A SINGLE POLITICIAN ARRESTED TODATE. There are three probable reasons.

Either the government is lying about corruption during last ten years or they are so inefficient that they cannot proove such cases OR PROBABLY POLITICIANS OF BOTH REGIMES WORK HAND IN HAND & ARE TAKING VOTERS FOR A BIG RIDE.

Any provision or rule in the “Code Of Conduct” for Politicians to SUSPEND, (without pay and all other allowances and perks) a sitting “Peoples’ Representative”, if and when arrested and charged for “Misuse” and “Robbery” of Public Property in any Court of Law, until the case is concluded? If not, this case and many others demand such a provision or rule to be brought with retrospective effect. It is time for the PEOPLE to introduce that rule.

Absolute Modayas… entire world is watching this modaya drama of arresting for vehicle misuse the criminals who plundered the country. Utterly Law and order-less country. They think foreign investments going to come?

Even in that there is no agreement within the unity government. Ranil wants the guys arrested by F word CID, Sinhala Jury acquit and the patient get discharged from army hospital for ever. But the New King wants to crown them as war heroes and have a honorary discharge from services with pension and perks.

At the last Presidential Election held in January 2015, candidate Sirisena and the UNP supporting Sirisena pledged to the people re-establish the Constitutional Council (CC) that was abolished by Mahinda Rajapakse to appoint his men purely according to his whims and fancies destroying the judicial integrity and independence.

It became a must particularly after the government agreed with the UNHRC when it co-sponsored the UNHRC resolution, calling to take rights steps to restore the judicial independence and accountability.
In the 19th Amendment bill gazetted on 13th March 2015 it was proposed to re-establish a ten member Constitutional Council to be constituted with 7 honest leaned people and 3 MPs.

The said amendment was brought in with a genuine intent to restore and respect the sovereign rights of the people it was debated in parliament on 28th April 2015.

Yet, the UNP required 2/3 majority to made it law and needed the support of the joint opposition MPs.
But the opposition had other ideas and ruined the will of the people to restore the judicial independence. They refused to support it unless the composition of the CC is completely changed (7 MPs and 3 independent people).

It was only made after the government was forced to give into the joint opposition demands, completely nullifying the will of the people for an independent judiciary to exercise people judicial power without any fear or favour.

Who were the chief architects in the campaign against the establishment of independent judiciary?
One of the main opponents was Wimal Weerawansa who made the opposition stand loud and clear with the following statement made in the parliament.

“ …We want the Constitutional Council to be constituted with MPs. Parliament shall not delegate its authority. Always there is insecurity with Constitutional Council. Just 5 so-called learned people there would take decisions…”

With this statement the joint opposition, that nervous about a independent justice system, has made its stand clear.

But the people are not prepared to tolerate the lawlessness in the government business anymore. They are not concerned about the political party system at all and the dishonest MPs representing various political parties. What people demand is justice. They want every single person abuse public office for corruption to be dealt with according to law.

Not just to arrest remand and release but to bring them all to book because the battered people has suffered enough.

Put him till 24 Jan 2018, that where he belongs to.

Why do they arrest him for misuse of vehicle, perhaps that could be the minor crime he committed. What about the passport forgery, is he clean on that. This again to make him a hero, the real thieves masquerading in prison as political detainees.

At last some good news. Even this morning I was just wondering why this rascal has not yet been remanded for the alleged murder of that young boy who is said to have been utilized as a fuck-machine by this panikkiya`s insatiable female creature. This foul-mouthed empty headed uneducated uncivilized impotent `patriotic Sinhala Bawuddhaya` rogue deserves public garroting for the crimes he has committed.

It may be true that Wimal weerawansa abused power and also made money, although may be not to the extend of some others and the Rajapakse family. Under MR all standards dropped including in public and even judiciary ( remember Mohan Peiris )

But in any anti-corruption drive or any criminal prosecution the accuser /investigator must be above board. He must be independent and act according to a objective standard.

Now can we honestly say that this government, especially Ranil, Ravi malik, etc have the moral right to make accusations against others on integrity issues ?

I think any one with a honest and a decent mind will say that this government has no moral right to commence such proceedings.

When the next elections are held, the people will show what they really think of RW and his men

  • 7

These are just bloody jokes to deceive the people that the government is doing what people elected them to do. In a week or two he will be back walking the streets and complain that he is a victim of political revenge. I have my doubts about any influential person in this country will ever get REAL PUNISHMENT for corruption. The reason being, most of the people who wants to become MP’s are looking for the ways to loot the wealth of the country and become rich, before even thinking of helping, the people who elect them. This country is corrupt from top to bottom and corruption has become a norm in the society these days.

Whatever this government does backfires for some ‘unknown and unfortunate’ reasons?
How did a large crowd know that he would be arrested and remanded today? He said at the courthouse entrance, that he would be arrested today: he said in no uncertain terms that PM Ranil had given that specific order to FCID.
PM Ranil may or may not have done so! but the PM definitely wants to sabotage His (Wimal’s) party convention due to be held on January 22. It’s no secret to people that MP Wimal has been a vociferous and deadly critique of PM and his Yahapalanaya. Therefore, from a strategic point of view this is bad timing for this arrest!
Leaking highly sensitive information to the very person who would be arrested makes the current FCID work a joke! How many politicians misuse vehicles even today? How many had done it in the past since independence in 1948? Look at the size of perks, salaries, bonanzas PM has approved for parliamentarians just to keep them quiet. Look how high level politicians and their family members, friends (mis)use helicopters, expensive cars and other government funds for their personal trips here and abroad?
Some readers who make comments seem to be trigger happy about the arrest, but they don’t know that the majority people who don’t read English media expected this government to catch real thieves with evidence but instead the general perception is that those real ones are now with the Yahapalanaya and those who criticize are only being arrested. Therefore, MP Wimal is now a hero who knew all government secrets.
The government (specially PM Ranil) should know that that’s not the way to handle this issue in a professional manner.
And on top of that, FM Ravi Karunanayake has been chosen as the ‘best finance minister’ of South Asia by the Banker magazine. A famous journalist commented today ‘if it is the case, we can imagine how ‘good’ the finance ministers of the countries of this region are’! What an interesting way to say that he is the worst finance minister ever!
I made this comment because Mahinda Rajapaksa, giving a voice-cut to media about MP Wimal’s arrest, said: “Wimal can not be silenced even if PM Ranil puts him in 7 prisons”. You know the impact that these few words could create in the average listener’s mind? If/when an election is held under these circumstances, they will have the vote and those who are trigger happy today will have the echo of Ranil’s and Maithree’s farts!

The CB Bond scam of Ranil W…culprit at large. Ranil.W was not that charge by FCID and Attanory General that because of President of MS has order to not seek any court of law procedures against UNP leader!
Under that MS “rule of law” will not apply their political allies of UNP, SLFP of CBK, TNA and JVP’s. All these political Parties are ABOVE THE LAW OF LAND!

All UNP’s that corruptions and grafts has been covered by President Orders. President interfere each and every case against MP of Wimal Weerawasna.
They(MS CBK Ranil.W..) like to see MP of Wimal W… in jail as long as MS in power.
No country law can be apply Wimal W…..,By forced MS directive
Wimal.W.. is put into Jail by order of President .

That is how Justice of Courts is working in an Island?
This is real meaning of “Rainbow revolution” being 2015 January 9th.

The President want that UNP Ranil W…to be safeguard on all corrupters deals that has been involved last 24 months.

But Ranil W.. and CBK must be free of all problems as long as,

Just waste of public money, resources, and media time (people’s valuable time) that they could have used to make an extra buck to pay Ravi K’s infamous VAT!
There should be a limit to these FCID jokes! Central bank was robbed and the total damage to the average Sri Lankan is more than what Wimal and JO cabal had done to Mother Lanka. FCID is silent like a deaf elephant on the Central Bank mega robbery. This arrest is comparatively like a team of cops and detectives running after a thief who stole a loaf of bread!
People have no time to laugh on these jokes but they have a lot of time to hate the so-called Yahapalana leaders!
Ranil and Maithree not only lied to the 62 million people but they are now treating them like idiots and/or kindergarten kids. That’s the sad part of this saga!
In short, this government is now a lame duck; it will be a sitting duck in the next local council elections. If it survives from people’s wrath with severe injuries, it will be buried alive at a general election and a presidential election. Enough is more than enough now!

Who gave Noel Selvanayagam, 250 Acres of our Mahavamasa Crown Land for nothing, to build Batalanda Ranil’s bogus VW Assembly Plant to give assembly jobs to Dalits?.

Wonder whether Batalanda Ranil will instruct the UNP IGP to send the F******CID to investigate?.

And who is going to pay damages to VW for discrediting their brand by associating them with Ghana Folks Wagon Cut and Polish Car detailers?.

Will batalanada’s Economics whizz Kid Harsha boy get summons too, for slandering VW by allegations that they rigged the Fuel Efficiency figures and that is why the UNP Government banned them from Srilanka?

Nagananda : By 28/4/2015, Yahapalanaya had completed the first loot of the Government coffers.
So, they were not interested in establishing workable CCs.

By february 2015, the entire Yahapalanaya was falling like Humpty Dumpty was coming down crashing in one Act by Mr. clean.
Now Mr.Dirty, he only wants to have a whale of a time roaming the World and feeding punnakku to the people with such arrest.
be it Opposition Leader or PM, either way he is happy. Moreover we have learnt that he is no saviour nor strategists but a simple Moron.

So, what can we expect from the yahapalanaya????????????

Dear Mr. Kodituwakku, is it possible to take count how many Yahapalanaya cronies had engaged in Overseas jaunts todate?
That will indicate where yahapalanaya is heading……….

CT: I suggest you to obtain a copy of the “B” report filed in Courts on the day Wimal was arrested and produce here, so that your readers would understand why he has been put into that “Dog Cage”. It runs to 24 pages; but worth giving the readers a chance to read it. Thank you.
