Yahapalanaya Government Sponsors Rajapaksa’s Personal Trip To Uganda

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s trip to Uganda has plunged into controversy, after reports claimed that the Yahapalanaya Government had sponsored his Business Class airfare of Rs. 425,000 to Uganda.

MahindaRajapaksa, is in Uganda to participate in the fifth swearing in ceremony of the country’s controversial President, Yoweri Museveni, and was taking part in the ceremony on a personal capacity, and not representing the state.

The Ravaya newspaper revealed that Mahinda Rajapaksa’s private secretary Udith Lokubandara had in a letter requested Foreign Secretary Chitranganee Wagiswara to bear the expenses of Rajapaksa’s travel, and accommodation cost. However, it is learnt that the Foreign Ministry had only borne the cost for Rajapaksa’s business class airfare. He and his delegation are reportedly staying at the luxurious Speke Resort Munyonyo, in Kampala.

Among others who joined Rajapaksa on the trip were; Gamini Lokuge, Udith Lokubandara, Lohan Ratwatte, Dhanasiri Amaratunge and several others.

The Foreign Ministry is yet to issue a statement explaining on what grounds the Government sponsored Rajapaksa’s personal trip to Uganda.

RE:Yahapalanaya Government Sponsors Rajapaksa’s Personal Trip To Uganda

Can you PLEASE askthe Ugandan Government to treat Mahinda Rajapaksa like a Raja, Mahinda Raja, Mahinda King, and keep him there?

Sri Lanka is a Republic, Socialist Democratic Republic, and do not need Kings.

Ayahapalanaya is what there is in Miracle of Modayas with Sirisena- Ranil and Jarapassa dancing together at the Parliament of corrupt morons in the Diaywenna Oya!!

The Ranil_Sira regime STINKS and is as corrupt of Jarapassa regime and this is why not a single corrupt politician of the current of previous regime has been tried and held accountable.

Long live the corrupt politician in Miracle of Modayas!

why is that ? Are we a sick nation ?

Actually thi sman should long have been kept in the jail – not even giving the basics.

I am so fed up of the current moves of the current adminstration. Had our Rev. Sobitha Thero been with us today, he would have gone to collapse being unable to see the kind of moves.

The goverment should justify as to why they are compelled to pay his wastful trip to Uganda ?
Being in the critical turn point of the lanken economic, with every cent being saved could help for all, to go for this and allow most abusive president to enjoy his life letting what he thinks is still right is no means acceptable. I would never pay a cent on behalf of these men- knowing that countries of the kind Uganda, knowing not mainting the basic human rights, it is believed that the man in power is the successor of IDIAMIN – why should we as a rising nation – join hands with any nations, that are being seen by other oflks as dictators. But for so called leaders like Rajaakshe got also with lybian Gadafi.. remember.. he put his hand around Gadafis shoulder to be seen as a close man to him… that is to send the message across.. that the guy is ant west… these narrow minded issues almost isolated the nation during the last few years.

Are we a nation that can finance former president to travel and enjoy his life ? If that was for seaching investments or anything that could help the future of the coutry, we the tax payingpeople can make our minds. But I really dont know undrestand.. knwoing that man affines only with Belarus, Swaziland and now with Uganda, why should the current govt waste the sums this way ?

And the man should be very clear – looking at the nation s grief not to abuse their funds anymore.

Please check whether the ticket is for return journey or for one way only.

Please check how long his passport is valid for?

Does his tour include Idi Amin’s heritage?

      ….

      ….

Does his itinerary include meeting witch doctors who specialise in sacrifice of children in Uganda?

On top next issues will be, when the toilet pits of MR will be overfloating to finance them too in Medamulana and across the country. Then 4% Vat rise will not be sufficient. OMG… this man should instead be kept in a safer jail… could save billions to the state.

Kurunagela MP seems happy as Larry, travelling in Business Class for a real business that brings a lot of benefits for ordinary folks that foot the bill.

Birds of same father flocks together. And, gathering might provide an opportunity to learn a few more tricks on how to steal public money whist keeping ordinary folks still happier. Shame that GLP is missing from the entourage.

I am not sure whether Yahapalanaya was given a mandate by the people to tread in the same line of MARA Palanaya.

Seems like old wine in a new bottle and lot of deal machaye deal, happening behind the curtain and ABASARANAI for us, the people.

Ansar, you and many others here in the forum have missed the trees for the woods. Couldn’t you see that Mr Unclean Ranil and Kapati Sira are in cohoots with bandit Mahendran Rajapaksa? Who gave the Government any authority to finance the trip to visit another bandit in far-away Uganda at People’s expense? Mr Unclean Ranil and Kapati Sira should be brought to Galle Face and flogged in public.

I don’t like MR honestly and it’s even shameful to attend an occasion where all the dictators are meeting including the Zimbabwe’s president whose country is under sanctions. Regardless of that, MR was a former president of Sri Lanka so it is a normal procedure to show respect to his former position of this country. That’s why he was sent on business class.
By the way, there is a certain allowance for each MP so when his secretary booked an expensive air ticket and hotel, the government only paid for the airfare since the total amount was more than the expenses allowances.

P.S: All current MPs are allowed to use government expense to travel abroad.

This is not done. This cannot be accepted. There are many millions of poor people who cannot afford a single meal whereas this man accused of robbing billions are given free ticket to attend the ceremony of another dictator on a private visit. If this government wanted to be friendly its ministers must pay from their own pocket and not from public purse.

It looks as if they are all the same but in public put up a show to claim one is better than the other just to win elections.

Guys stop with the comments againts him! He was “officially” invited by the Uganda government. It is not a big deal… when the ex- vice president was invited to the royal wedding, his trip was state funded! Its what a civilised country does. And have you all forgoten that he was our president at one time? Have you forgoten about the roads, schools, hospitals he developed and how he kept the economy stable. He never once increased the tax burden for the common people. Just for a few rumours, true or not you all voted him out and brought this joke of a goverment. Now everyone complains about yahapalaya… if it were me i would rather have an alleged theif as a president rather than a guy without a backbone

    • 12
      9

You will be living all your life with alleged thieves and back boneless sods. Have you in any way benefitted from the roads, schools and the economy while you were being robbed in daylight by the alleged thieves and back boneless sods. If so! Amen to you.

He never increased the tax burden for the common people because he knew the common people were and are grass eaters like you and by doing so he and his clan were robbing you lock stock and barrel. He gave you rupees five and behind your unsuspecting back robbed you of a million. And it went on and on and on. One day, without your knowledge the thieves and back boneless will come after you and finally strip you upto your underwear and if they leave you with your underwear then thank God that you will not be left naked. Even in your underwear you will not be safe.
What kind of civilised countries are you talking about. ??????????
The bloody Dictatorships in Afica or elsewhere in the world. ???????
You are presently living in a fairly civilised country but not for long untill the thieves and back boneless turn it back to uncivilised , so untill then enjoy whats left of it.

Its a pity, a crying shame that fools like you exist in a beautifull land, a land of plenty, a land of many good people who dont have warped eyes like you but then all five fingers are not same.

When the day comes where you may be left standing minus your underwear after being stripped by the thieves and backboneless it will be too late for you to turn around and say ” If i had served my God in the same way i had served my thieves and back boneless compatriots, he would not have left me naked and open to my enemies. ”

I wonder if you have the intelligence to understand the above and if not then its just your bad luck.

Ps: If you have extra funds with you then donate it to the thieves and backboneless so that they can enjoy themselves at your expense.
After all thats what you call CIVILISATION ! isn’t it.

Shamed, i have infact benifited from the roads. I can now get to the airport in less than half an hour and i can get to galle in under 2 hours. In addition to this, i did benifit from the economy before the yahapalaya destroyed it. I am in a business of import and export trade. So goods were cheaper for me to buy and bsuiness oppurtunities were greater when the currency wasn’t this week under the guidance of the previous regime. I also benifited from the hospitals, putting my father in a government hospital saved his life from a terminal illness.

The civilised societies im talking about are the United Kingdom, USA, Russia, China Etc. Can you name one development project that is going on that hasn’t been started by the previous regime? Just 15 month after Yahapalaya took power we are back to where we were 8 years ago. Our economy has never been this bad in the past decade!

Another reason why our country is in the state it is now is because of people like you… you are clearly uneducated and don’t understand the seriousness of our current economic situation. Trust me i know, as i am an economist. People like you are the reason i loose faith in our motherland. You clearly need to get your facts straight and go get a degree in economics ASAP to actually grasp the situation our counrty is experiencing.

I hope that this will get into your thick and hollow skull and if not may god bless you and the ‘bright’ future ahead of you.

Oh and by the way, if you would like to dance naked in your underwear with mythree and his gang, by all means go ahead and enjoy. While your at it go donate some money to his son to crash award ceromonys for the big match. If you do not know your facts, please not not reply to my comments as you do not have the intelectual capacity to think at this level. You are no different from the brainless people running our country now.

GOD BLESS ANYONE WHO LISTENS TO A WORD THAT YOU SAY.

No leader will invite another country’s previous leader for a national ceremony. This invitation for MR only because of his friendship otherwise the President of Uganda would invite the current leader. MR is not representing the country therefore, his expenses for this trip must be paid by his own pocket. I hope your brain can understand that simple truth.

Patriot: You said: “Well MR is the next common candidate of UNP”. Please be aware MR is already the “Co-President” nurtured by the UNP. That is why Minister of Foreign Affairs has approved the payment for MR’s travel. There are many more things happening behind the back of the President elected by the people and some times with his knowledge too. So what is the difference between Uganda & Sri Lanka?

  • 6
    3

Should we not await the Foreign Ministry’s response before speculating further?
There is not too much out of order in the state bearing the travel cost of an elected representative invited to a special occasion. Perhaps the Ugandan state is bearing the cost of hospitality.
This could be seen by the world as an act of magnanimity (in contrast to the pettiness that we have seen in this country for long).

It will be interesting to read FM Mangala Samaraweera’s statement, if he dares to make one,as to on what grounds MR was paid the air fare on his personal trip to Uganda from the govt. coffers. FM who was the 1st to claim that MR looted the treasury to the tune of few billions of dollars and stacked it away in foreign countries and he was to prove it within a month of formation of this Govt., but his action to pay for the airfare, disproves his claim or FM was made a scape goat,
keeping PM Ranil out of the scene, as the govt. is all out to please MR and win him over so that SLFP contests the next election as one party in an attempt to defeat UNP, who gets the support of all the minority parties and the largest crowd attended the May day Rally, proved their vast popularity in the country.

How ever FM Mangala has some explanation to do as people are further
burdened with taxes and asked to tighten their belts while public
    money is spent on extravagance.

MR has received an invitation from the government of Uganda. That means this is not a personal trip. If Adaham can go to UN using public funds, if Arajitha can go to Singapore and get a by-pass surgery done in a very expensive hospital using public funds, if Sachin Vas can get STF security from public funds why can’t the former President and currently a MP cannot use public funds to go on an official trip. Remember that there were representatives from USA, UK and EU at that ceremony. True that they walked out when the Ugandan President criticized the kangaroo court in The Hague for targeting only people from poor countries.

In Sinhala there is a saying ‘Nurussana Minihage Hewanellath Edai’ kiyala. That is the case with these guys who engage in MR bashing. Use your bloody brains and learn to look at thing objectively.

If Former President Rajapaksa did not end terrorism in the country all you moaners, groaners and complainers will be wailing and crying for your bombed in to pieces family members and friends. Folks ! lets wait for the report from the foreign minister on the subject as countries always invite the heads of States and in some cases, the opposition leader and never an MP is invited, as an official guest, representing the country he belongs to.

There is a possibility that as a matter of goodwill, the President may
have substituted MR to represent him at the Ugandan celebrations but
the trip becomes a private trip and rightly former President MR would
have asked for the air fare to be met by the Govt. which could be
    considered a reasonable request.

What ever happened, people have been asked to tighten their belts due
poor financial state we are in due heavy debts, owed to many countries
and this is not the time for extravaganza as a polite RSVP would have
been enough to satisfy the Ugandan Govt. Only god knows as to what is
behind the good will gesture, if that was the case.

      Lanka Watch ,

“Birds of feather flock together ” Ugandan dictator Musaveni had formerly requested his counter part former SL dictator Mafia king for his 5 th swear-in ceremony in Kampala , SL foreign ministry should lodge a strong protest against this undiplomatic move , how come a sovereign country invites a former president of another sovereign country by passing the incumbent president ? what is the special bond between these two similar characters ? there may be so much in common i.e stealing national wealth , ruling the country forever , jailing opposition leader , banning media etc.

    1. Only MR’s ticket was funded by the Government as he is presently a Minister. He was the past President and nothing and nobody can alter that title. There are certain privileges that are afforded to a Past President and whether anyone likes it or not, he will make the most of it. My3 sent MR because he didn’t want to go there and read off of a piece of paper like he did in the UK.

During MR’s time, CBK travelled extensively on Government funded trips at the poor tax payer’s cost. Alas, the day light robberies that CBK carried out during her regime was never investigated till date.

    2. VAT has been increased to 15% they say because of the “past errors” during MR’s time. If there were so many “past errors” and “wrong doings” committed, please for God’s sake LOCK them all up without dishing out this sorry story for the past 15 months?!!! We are TRULY tired of reading about it, listening to it and watching them dragged to FCID and what not and then sent back home – but till date, NO DECENT ACTION have been taken by the so-called Maithree Government to make these thieves pay back all the billions stashed away in Panama.

Oh, almost forgot, could not find any RAJAPAKSE name in the Panama papers either. Wonder where all that loot is kept?

      John ,

Why don’t do us a favour ? just get your facts right before uttering nonsenses like above .

      1) “Only MR’s ticket was funded by the Government as he is presently a Minister.”

As NV stated , please tell us Mahinda’s portfolio .

      2) “My3 sent MR because he didn’t want to go there and read off of a piece of paper like he did in the UK. “

MY3 didn’t send MR anywhere , it was Ugandan dictator who had invited MR to attend his swear-in ceremony.

3)”Oh, almost forgot, could not find any RAJAPAKSE name in the Panama papers either. Wonder where all that loot is kept? “

Please don’t just jump the gun yet , only a tiny fraction of data has been released to media as of today ;nonetheless , Rajapakses are not just petty thieves , they are super smart when it comes to stealing.they have got enough proxies to do their dirty work i.e Dubai Lokuvithana , Senadipathi geezer

MR should have politely declined the invitation to attend swearing in
ceremony of the controversial President of Uganda Mr. Yoweri Museveni at a time the govt. is loaded with heavy debts, most of it came from
his time as President. The people would have appreciated his gesture
if he did that. People blame FM Mangala for authorising payment for the air fare but presume, this decision was something beyond him and he was made a scape goat, as this is a matter that came under his ministry.

The time has come for people to open their mouths only to eat or drink but no questioning permitted on what ever actions the Govt.take. Today,
there is a clear division between the people and the Govt.and the media
is gagged. The parliamentarians, which ever party they belong to, flock
together when it comes to Govt. spending on extravaganza while people in large numbers are going down the poverty line. Never in the history of Sri Lankan politics, the people got so angry at the way the govt.is handling the administration of the country and they sincerely hope for a third political party to rule the country in the future. The Govt. discuss as a matter of priority, and urgency, about bullet proof cars, palatial houses & offices, security personnel in large numbers, duty free car permits and so on for PM, President, and the ministers openly as if we are living in Syria or Iraq, while the tax payer, who meets all these expenses, has become a beggar and unable to make both ends meet. Fld. Marshal Sarath Fonseka will have more to say on lavish
spending by the govt.,irrespective of the heavy debts we are burdened with.
