By Hilmy Ahamed –
Former Minister, Speaker and Premadasa/Rajapaksa loyalist and National List nominee Parliamentarian A H M Azwer along with a few other Muslim Mahinda diehards claim that Yahapalanaya under President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has betrayed the minorities, especially the Muslim community. I have no reason to disagree and fully subscribe to their opinion, but I also totally disagree with their proposal that the former President, Mahinda Rajapaksa is the option for the Muslims. Mahinda Rajapaksa, from 2009 to 2015 was seen as not a minority friendly President and was not willing to address minority grievances. His total disregard of minorities had nothing to do with the war victory, which was supported by the majority of Sri Lankans including the Muslims. Today, in the continued racist agenda, the Muslim community has become the “Girayata ahuwetchcha puwak gediya”.
Azwer claims that there are 38 complaints by Muslims against damages to their mosques, harassment and threats that have been recorded during the last two years of Yahapalanaya, (agreed), but fails to mention the 538 incidents between 2013 and January 2015 under the Mahinda Rajapaksa Presidency which have been documented by the Secretariat For Muslims, a well recognized civil society initiative of the Muslims, set up to provide technical assistance in research and advocacy for policy and legislative reform. Azwer highlights the shabby treatment meted out to the 21 Parliamentarians by President Sirisena when they signed a Muslim Council petition demanding action against Ven. Galagoda Atte Gnanasara Thero for insulting Almighty Allah, but does not remember the treatment given by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the 18 MPs who flew to Badulla to demand action against the Buddhist extremism and the Aluthgama violence. He probably doesn’t even remember that he and Abdul Cader of Kandy were the only two Muslim Parliamentarians who did not sign the petition demanding action against the Aluthgama violence. Regretfully, the Muslim political leadership has very short memories. When elections come, it is the winning wagon they board.
Mahinda is known even to have used strong-arm tactics to close down mosques, the Mahiyangana and Grandpass ones being good examples. Where were these SLFP Muslim warriors during the period 2005 to 2015? Where were they when Aluthgama burned? Even though Fashion Bug is a commercial entity, the Buddhist extremists backed by monks burnt down their main stores and warehouse. When pressure was brought on to arrest the Buddhist monks and arsonists, Mahinda Rajapaksa is rumored to have called the Fashion bug owners and said “You’all have many other branches across the country, do you think they will be secure if you go to the Police and get the monks arrested?”
From the time Mahinda Rajapaksa was elected in November 2005, the majority in the minority communities did NOT see him as the President of the entire nation. The population of the Northern Province was disenfranchised in 2005 with the support of the LTTE fanatic Velupillai Prabaharan with a 600 million cash bribe. Majority of them would have voted Ranil Wickremesinghe and elected him the President. Mahinda Rajapaksa’s racist approach to alienate the minorities and appease the Sinhala Buddhists was evident early on during his Presidency. His Sinhala chauvinism and military approach to end the war brought him great support amongst the Sinhala Buddhist community. He also generated considerable support from the Muslims towards his efforts at ending the terror of Velupillai Prabaharan, due to the LTTE harassment and eviction of the Northern Muslims. This led to the unprecedented mandate he received at the 2010 Presidential Elections. This victory probably made him believe that he did not need the minorities to get elected to the Presidency which he wanted to contest for a third term by changing the Constitution. It was a fatal miscalculation that sent him home to Medamulana in Weeraketiya in January 2015. Now he is attempting to appease the minority voters and stage a comeback to take over as the Prime Minister. Towards this strategy, there seems to be many actors at play, and there is a strong suspicion that President Maithripala Sirisena may have been coaxed into believing in a fairytale ‘wedding’ where the former SLFPers could form a Government, ousting Ranil Wickramasinghe for the second time by a SLFP conspiracy. President Sirisena may become a willing stakeholder to save his skin from the humiliation of a defeat at future elections if he contested under the SLFP and Mahinda Rajapaksa takes the saddle of a new coalition.
It is true that President Sirisena has elevated the racist hate mongering leader of the Bodu Bala Sena, Ven. Galagoda Atte Gnanasara Thero on par with the most respected Mahanayakes of Asgiriya and Malwatte Chapters, a folly he was tricked into supposedly by Justice and Buddha Sasana Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe who probably did it to win over his Sinhala Buddhist Maharagama/Homagama voters.
The extreme racism of the Rajapaksa administration and the impunity offered to the terror groups will not fade away from the minds of the Muslims for a long time. A few, who have not been able to join the Yahapalanaya bandwagon, may band together to whitewash Rajapaksa crimes, but the Muslim community is in no mood to forgive them.
The Muslims of Sri Lanka have been sandwiched between the Sinhala majority and the Tamil community. During the 30-year-old ethnic conflict, the majority of the Muslims supported the Government and paid a heavy price. Many were murdered including 147, who were gunned down while praying Isha or the late evening prayers at the Kathankudy Jumma mosque. The entire population of the Northern Province was forcibly evicted. Some were given only 2 hours notice and the rest 24 hours. They left with a mere 500 Rupees and no personal belongings except a few documents. They languished in refugee camps in Puttalam and other parts of the country for over 22 years. Azwer is correct when he says that he supported the IDPs when they arrived in Puttalam. It was not just him but there were thousands who supported these unfortunate innocent victims of LTTE terror. They paid this price because they refused to support the Eelam quest of the Liberation Tigers of Thamil Eelam (LTTE). Some Buddhist extremists and misguided Environmentalists are now terrorizing them. They claim that the former lands of the Muslims, which they abandoned due to their eviction, belong to the Wilpattu National park, where its boundaries are now being extended to include the lands of the IDPs for which they have deeds and Government permits dating back a hundred years. What a travesty of justice.
The GOTA Factor
I am going to have my entire Muslim community firing all guns at me when I say, “GOTA PROBABLY WAS NOT A RACIST”. He has been accused of being the creator of the monstrous Bodu Bala Sena (BBS). The labeling came because he provided impunity to the racist extremists and also inaugurated the short-lived Bodu Bala Sena office in Galle. I strongly believe that he willingly wore that hat to defend his brother Mahinda Rajapaksa, who probably was the one fully behind the BBS and the extremism and racism experienced by the minorities after the end of the war in 2009. I had the privilege of asking the former Defense Secretary, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, as to why he went for the opening of the Galle office of Bodu Bala Sena. His answer was simple and spontaneous. He said that Venerable Kirana Vimalajothi was their family priest from Weeraketiya. One day, he had come with Milinda Moragoda and had asked him to open a Buddhist Centre in Galle. He hadn’t known that it was a BBS Centre. As a Buddhist, he did not see any harm in opening a Buddhist Centre. If I remember right, he further said, “Please listen to my speech at the opening, I made it clear that all communities will have to live together, while practicing their different religions”. Having worked with him on the “Greese Yaka” and Halal crisis, I have no reason to disbelieve Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
There are rumors that Gotabaya Rajapaksa will enter the fray at the next elections. There are also rumors that he will spend some time in China, studying International Diplomacy. Is the Chinese grooming him for the top seat by taking him away to train him to rule? Their massive investments in this country would need to be protected, and what better way than to have one of the Rajapaksas? I have mixed feelings of Gotabaya Rajapaksa taking the helm. I have great respect for his efficiency in delivering promises on development issues, but cannot say the same with regard to his iron-fisted approach. (He created clean cities in Colombo and the suburbs, which has today ‘gone back to the dogs or as my former Principal would have said Dogs have come to the city’.)
In the coming months, Sri Lanka is predicted to face the worst ever drought since 1948, but I see a much bigger threat to the stability of the Nation with imminent political divorces and new partners living together. President Sirisena is causing a major rift by taking unilateral decisions, an example being the reduction of the lottery tickets to 20 rupees after Ravi Karunanayake increased it to 30. If he were following the good governance principles, he would have asked Ravi to review and reduce without insulting the Minister of Finance through a unilateral declaration. This is not the first time the President has been lacking in tact and statecraft. The UNP on the other hand has made enough blunders from the bond scam to the Volkswagen scandal. It is time that the political leaders sat together and decide either to continue the marriage or go for an immediate divorce before the next Local Government Elections. That would give the country an opportunity to send a strong signal as to who should continue till 2020.

Dear Hilmy Ahmed,
There are fair minded Sinhalese who could help, but the law should be implemented equally to Muslims and others. Look at the recommendation by the committee to report on war crimes inquiry. Are these Sinhala members of that committee not fair minded. The correct action is to form a committee to inquire into allegations of destroying places of worship of every religion and not only mosques. There are complains of destruction of Hindu Temples in eastern province and mosques being built over them. There are complains of Buddhist ancient archaeological sites being bulldozed by Muslims. Let that committee of independent impartial persons inquire into these allegations and produce a report which who ever the perpetrators are, must abide by and restore the original status. Are the Muslims prepared to go against their teaching and hand back the destroyed places of worship.

A good suggestion Dr Gnana. The Muslims have documented close to 600 incidents during the last three years as per the article. Could you elaborate the numbers that the Tamils and Sinhalese who are affected
The issue for the Muslims is that it is state sponsored or encouraged attacks. Is there an organized Muslim assault on the Tamils or Sinhalese>
/
Dr. Gnana Sankaralingam / January 21, 2017
Destruction of Hindu temples in eastern province by Muslims have been well documented by UTHR and others. Recently there had been attack on Hindu temples in eastern province either by military men or Muslims working along them. Also a church in Mannar was attacked by Muslim thugs who were supporters of Rishard Badiuddin. Let the commission of eminent people from all communities receive complains and investigate. For your information, despite atrocities committed by LTTE, they never destroyed any places of worship or archaeological sites. All mosques in northern province left behind by Muslims during their forced exodus is remaining intact, though needing repairs as they were left neglected for a long time.

Is, it only the Muslims? Of course Muslims and Tamils More so than the Sinhala.
What we have is the self-interest of the Politicians as opposed to the National Self interest.
Reember, Sirisena has earned new titles of Turncoat, Traitor, Gona, Mala-Perthaya and Sevalaya. He was the second to earn the Title of Sevalayas after SWRD Bandaranaika, who contributed so much for the county’s current problems.
Now turning to Mahinda Rakapaksa,
MaRa MaRa ChaTu maRa
MaRa MaRa AmaNa maRa
MaRa MaRa HoRa Mara
Mara MaRa DhushaNa MaRa,
is not the solution.
Part of the solution is to expose, expose and expose, Both locally and Internationally.
By the way, would you please help amend the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act, MMDA. It is treating Sri Lankan Muslim girls and women as chattel, and abusing them, courtesy of the Ulema and Mullahs.

Muslims do not get anywhere because of their opportunistic nature and their default position of blackmail.
If the majority of Muslims want to support MR that is their choice: Yahapalanaya govt should not give into blackmail. If they had not learnt their lesson during the last govt there is still time. They can support MR, Gota or Ganasara I don’t think any one give a rats “A”

Hilmi is rejecting the notion Muslims were used as curry leaves by the Old Royals during the war of 2005-2009. He is denoting how Muslims were pampered by Old Brother Prince for spying. Hilmi is arguing Old Brother Prince is better for Muslims.
Though he says Muslims had profitable period during war time, he is accusing LTTE for Ranil’s loss in 2005. Ranil came to power almost last year. Muslims want Old Brother Prince, already. If Ranil had come in 2005, Muslims would have rejected Ranil in 2006, per Hilmi’s. Lack of Fight makes Hilmi to feel Muslims’ importance is reduced.
He is confusing because his convulsion to write a malicious article against Tamils. Hilmi has been watching Mahindapala, Izeth, Michel Robert, Thero De Silva ……… has been writing ultra-racist essays to rise up the people’s knowledge of their existence and were commented in high numbers for their anti-Tamil writings in CT. So now Hilmi is endeavoring to surpass them. Who is left alone by greed monster? New ultra-racist Hilmi, who had been only a selfish-Muslims writer, is now dying for name & popularity (Notoriety).
Misanthrope Hilmi is yet to have to write about MMDA. Some women organizations want not only MMDA, even any earlier legal rubbles that gave rise to MMDA wants to be out. They want 16A to go. (Well understood in that context, but 16A ensures, instead of future Sinhala-Buddhists laws, laws enacted to World level in Colonial time). Hakeem didn’t talk for women. Two days ago, in Puttalam, Hakeem said for the MMDA supporters, “Don’t be fools, let them Change MMDA a little bit, or you will lose it and beyond”. Hakeem neither releasing the proof of murder in Aluthgama nor tried to saved DIG Indran who was punished by Brother Prince for Protecting Muslims.

There is guidance available in Buddhism,Islam,Christianity etc (not necessarily in order) about how people should behave. It is inevitable that there will be differences in races unless we accept cloning . if we accept cloning we have to implement restricted movement( for example-the UKip policy in UK, Trump policies in US). So even with cloning, once people live in a particular geographical location people change. 200 tears ago Darwin’s studied finches.

Muslims have grievences every where in the world where they are the minority. In africa, where muslims and christians are 50: 50, christians are salughtered the way sri lankan muslims kill cattle. On the other hand, minorities in muslim majority countries do not have grievences. Even young women are kidnapped and married by force because incest and pedophilia is permitted in islam. Even though Sri lankan journalists do not publish those reports even in sri lanka underafge girls are married because mohomad did that.
Maithripala sirisena and Ranil wickramsinghe are two leaders who arrested and locked about 60 buddhist monks. CBK gave away the Big dagoba Deeghavapi to muslims to settle. They opened beef stalls on there.
Muslims don’t talk how they went against the Kandy Temple perahera in 1915 and got shot. Muslims are that selfish people. Recently, they confronted in Kataragama, Mahiyangan, Dambulla, Aluthgama. Muslims are born to lie and muslims are asked to lie in their religion because of that, they never talk the truth.
Anyway, this article is good publicity for Mahinda Rajapakse. Because, Mahinda amidst all he did and allowed to happen, he did not make Buddhists suffer this way.

“Yahapālanaya Lapses – Is Mahinda The Option For Muslims?” YES if the Muslims want themselves to be ethnically cleansed and exterminated from this county.
Mahinda is not an option for anybody. Even with the Yahapalanaya lapses, this government is the best among the SCUM. The Sinhala hardliners and sycophants like A.H.M Azwar will not succeed in bringing Mahinda so long minority unity prevails in this county and the Yahapalanaya regime keeps China as a key ally because it is China who can make a regime change and influence an election like Putin influenced the US presidential election in favour of Trump. If the dumb Eastern Muslims are prevented from practically jumping even for a dried “koonissa” if dangled like a carrot on a stick and say no to opportunistic Muslim politicians, then your brothers would not be having these discussions on CT. The Muslims must ditch those useless Muslim politicians by voting for highly qualified leaders with integrity like Mr. Imthiaz Bakeer Markar type of leaders, or for Sinhalese or other minority politicians who will better safe guard the Muslims. What I find troubling is to see new genre of highly qualified Muslim youth coming forward to take the charge from the existing and corrupt ROT.

JVP and TNA sit in the opposition aisles of the government in the parliament. They both opposed Old Royals- theoretically Supported Yahapalanaya. Muslims voted to winner. They were not with Muslim writers and leaders who were hanging with Old Royal.
TNA known to be the most straightforward party and JVP more attached to leftist principles, in the whole Parliament. In earlier articles Hilmi opportunistically claimed Muslims would buy JVP with Saudi money in the next election. He is probably realizing that he was in error to think JVP can be bought out of its principles so easily. Further, the reality is, JVP cannot be ruling party in the next election so no chance of convincing to vote for it the Muslim Community. Now he has flipped flopped. By need, he is presenting a convoluting argument to show the shameful Azhar as an honorable politician and Old King is the only criminal and not the Old Brother Prince. The readers are not expecting Hilmi to stabilize here as he is known a man stabilized on the move. It is not going to be long before he turns over again.
Right after disenfranchise the country’s only foreign exchange earners the MMDA was passed to amass the Muslim leadership’s support. The Sinhala Government not only simply hugged the Muslim leadership to govern with them the country, but also encouraged them to move over to Arabic culture and Halal meat so they could provide the foreign exchange and not Tamil. The Muslim leadership taught to its followers plotting together as patriotism. Muslim leadership and writers forgot 1983 to Tamil, developed an art of blowing LTTE pipe to make Sinhala Buddhist Government to dance. After 65 years, Sinhala-Muslim Honeymoon becoming sour lemon. Now Hilmi is panicking that they are at a dead end road.

to Jim, I too agree:
“…this article is good publicity for Mahinda Rajapakse. Because, Mahinda amidst all he did and allowed to happen, he did not make Buddhists suffer this way.”
Among the Buddhists, there is a strong belief: if the rulers (in this case the Prez, and the PM with their Diyavenna cabinet) are not pious, not honest, not faithful to the religion and the country, there will be droughts, poverty, uneasiness, restlessness, ignorance, greediness, jealousy, indifference, sloth, and torpor and a long list of unwholesome and unhealthy mental states among the country folks. The two cabinet spokesmen have proved this time and again with their irregular and illogical answers to the press. The recent cabinet paper submitted to the cabinet on same sex is probably the tip of the iceberg; it has backfired and its echo is not heard in the city much but in rural towns and villages of SL. Some villagers ask what next under Yahapalanaya?
Both Prez and PM are in a real mess today and so is the country; probably a general election will sort out many of the current issues.

The muslims of yester years lived as Sri Lankans and have not faced serious problems. They were trusted and their business dealings were honorable. Today;s muslims have brought in a new culture. They dress differently, eat differently, extremely dishonest and more importantly they are engaged in every nefarious trade. They are the biggest drug dealers and couriers. They are the biggest smugglers. They were the ones who cheated the government to the tune of 16 billion through the VAT scam. None of these people were brought to justice. The few who were remanded had right royal treatment from their own prisons commissioner at that time – Marsook who provided them luxury cells as well as leave to get out and in as they wanted. What a lie
After 1983 Tamils boycotted the elections. Muslims voted with Sinhalese and decided who to rule. They voted to Richard. P. As he double-crossed LTTE, it was accused of eliminating him.
1994 North did not vote and all others voted to SLFP; UNP lost. Irrelevant of Muslims’ evacuation, Muslims supported Chandrika’s Lotus movement. It is no cause of concern for Hilmi. There were not known spying accusations on Muslims by Tamils.

In 1999 most of the North did not vote election; Other Tamils voted to Ranil.. Entire Island wide Muslims community voted against Ranil. Ranil did not win. Irrelevant of Muslims evacuation, Muslim supported Chandrika’s Lotus movement. It is no cause of concern for Hilmi. No known spying accusations.
In 2005 Northern Tamils boycotted the election. Ranil did not come. But Muslims, as described by Hilmi, worked with Old King and spied against Tamils. In 2010 Tamils supported Fonseka and Muslims Old King. Ranil was not supported by Tamils, Sinhalese, Muslims and IC. Rishard and Hakeem were ferociously worked against Tamils. Muslims supported lost SLFP to form government in East. Most of the Tamil Muslims conversion to Arabian Muslims took after 2005.

If the goal of the Muslim Community is to achieve national harmony and reconciliation with the majority community to ensure the future well-being of it’s members, to ensure that it’s children can continue to live in dignity in our Motherland without fear of mental trauma or physical abuse for being followers of Islam, then a paradigm shift in their present thinking is absolutely necessary.
Consequent upon the introduction of the 1978 Constitution, the Muslims found themselves being marginalized politically. They then made the biggest mistake politically of attempting to ‘circle the wagons’ to protect themselves from the imagined threat propagated by ambitious Muslim politicians. This process was used by various external and internal forces to institute religious, social and cultural changes to the community to suit their own agendas.
The net result was the growing polarization of the Muslim and Buddhist communities. The ‘Us vs Them’ syndrome widened and deepened, as Muslims knowingly or unknowingly continued to build and strengthen the walls around their community.
If the Muslim Community is truly interested in protecting the future well-being of it’s members, then it must realize that this can be best achieved not by promoting a policy of political isolation, but by advocating and promoting integration and assimilation. The safety of our future generations lies not in the strength of the dividing walls that we build, but in the extent to which we smoothly and seamlessly merge with majority community to protect the interests of all citizens, while safeguarding our own religious beliefs and practices.
[Please see next post]

Bisthan Batcha / January 20, 2017
[Continued from previous post]
On the 8th of January 2015, the Muslim Community voted en masse for a change of leadership because their basic need for physical safety was being violated. After two years, realization has dawned among many Muslims that their action was merely a knee-jerk response which provided temporary mental relief and did not really produce the long-term end-result they expected. More importantly, this may have created the perception that the Muslims are a selfish, anti-nationalistic community in the minds of the 70% Buddhists who voted for MR.
The Muslim community must accept the fact that our Motherland will always have a Sinhalese Buddhist as it’s leader. No such leader will do anything that will be perceived as being anti-Buddhistic. No such leader will take action against a member of the Sangha, an integral component of the highly venerated Triple Gem, unless such a member is found guilty of a heinous crime against society. Therefore, there is not much point in being anti-Mahinda or anti-Sirisena or being anti-Ranil or anti-Gota for this reason, since the hands of any Buddhist leader will always be tied.
It is far, far better for the Muslims to tear down the walls they have built around their community, to address the perceived apprehensions and fears expressed by the Majority community about the Muslims and to ensure that they have representatives in the Legislature who will speak loudly on their behalf.
The challenge that faces the Muslim Community is to be and to be perceived as being Sri Lankans who are Muslims (i.e. Muslim Sri Lankans) rather than Muslims who are Sri Lankans (i.e. Sri Lankan Muslims). Our National Identity (which unites us with the majority Buddhists) must be given precedence over our Global Identity (which differentiates us from the Buddhists).

Let us make religion a private affair as far as values and doctrines are concerned although public worship is required in some of the religions. People are prone to argue about religion but don’t care to observe the religious precepts whcih is the more important aspect

This article is a clear indication that how foolish our leaders were I mean Leaders since independence. both parties UNP as well as SLFP leaders miserably failed to adapt national policies that is suitable for the country.but did everything to satisfy minorities in order to hold on to power no matter what happen to country.I think those leaders sincerely believed that minority communities are patriotic lots and treat this country as their mother land. but it is not the case.some treated India as their mother land and some treated Pakistan or Saudi Arabia as their mother land.still that is the case.Asking more and more.some times asking thing that are impossible to grant.
I feel genuine military dictatorship is the need of the hour to put country on one country one law for all. otherwise leaders of minority parties like hakim, baddudeen, thondaman hold on to power forever and destroy the country together with Sinhalese politicians of UNP or SLFP socially, economically, culturally. ultimately they may create situation like in Labonan.

Dr. Gnana
“There are complains of destruction of Hindu Temples in eastern province and mosques being built over them. There are complains of Buddhist ancient archaeological sites being bulldozed by Muslims.”
Seems rather far fetched. In the East, Hindus and Muslims live side by side and, in almost equal numbers. So, how can the Muslims destroy Hindu temples and build mosques over them?.
Where were the “bulldozed” Buddhist ancient archaeological sites located?
Can you provide specific information on such complaints instead of making blank statements?

This is what I like most- Regretfully, the Muslim political leadership has very short memories. When elections come, it is the winning wagon they board.
And, this guy is a National list nominee. Maybe the one who mastered the summersaults with such a finesse outsmarting all others in his community. When the constitutional bill about to be taken up, he pulled the plug, saying a savior of minority. Buy that!.

The problem with the Muslim community is that they highlight their grievances but never participate to solve them with other communities. If their politicians get involved, they are selfish and will demand for their perks and privileges to be increased. Eventually the Sinhalese are the losers

Mr Hilmi
Allow me to reproduce one of my earlier comments which I believe is quite applicable in the present context:
// It is easy to get ALL the votes of a minority by poisoning their minds with false/exaggerated propaganda and offering unimplementable secret promises. Minority political leaders are foolish to fall prey to this malicious scheme, knowing well of the nature off cut-throat, hateful Sinhala politics. For the simple reason that one section of the equally divided Sinhala electorate is bigger than the whole minority and as a result the entire minority en bloc have to face the disapproval of a large section of Sinhala population. This obviously is most harmful to race relations and not at all conducive to their own interests.(Muslims may not like to hear the words they were referred to by Rajapaksha supporters after the elections.) FROM NOW ON ENTIRE MUSLIM COMMUNITY WILL HAVE TO BEAR THE BRUNT OF THIS HIGHLY ASYMMETRICAL DIFFERENCE.
Tamil political leaders as usual played their 60 year old game of aligning with one party duped by impractical promises. For my life I can’t understand the wisdom behind this strategy to solve a ‘national problem’.
In the interests of peaceful race relations I wish if Sirisena had won with MAJORITY (not ALL) of Tamil votes, MAJORITY (not ALL) of Muslim votes and MAJORITY (not ALL) of Sinhala Buddhist votes. Unfortunately he won with ALL Tamil votes, ALL Muslim votes and leas than 50% Sinhala Buddhist votes.//
May I emphasize once again that in their own long term interests a minority community en bloc should not take sides of lowly Sinhala politics. In the only BBS meeting I attended to (I was just passing by) major speakers were Champika Ranawaka and Thilanga Sumathipala who are in your good books after the elections. In the pre Muslim Congress days I remember some Muslims supported UNP and others SLFP.

It is not yet a ‘Frying Pan or the Fire’ situation. There are substantive differences between what we had and we have now. The latter is yet preferable over the former. Those we have now have no doubt the need to pull up their falling pants and we have a duty to point this out vigorously.

The Muslim have a genuine grievance and they all voted Maithripala Sirisena believing that Gnanasra BBS racism would be eliminated. Sirisena is becoming worse than Mahinda. He is inviting BBS and giving them the high chair and recognizing the alcoholic beast in robes. Its time that we stood up for the rights of all the citizens and bring permanent peace.

Unfortunately, the opposite is not true as well: Sinhalese and Tamils got better with all those politicians you have mentioned in your writings. And same goes with Buddhism and Hinduism.
Sadly, Growth of BBS has negative impact on beautiful teaching of Buddha and Buddhism. They harm Buddhism more than Muslims, Tamils and Christians together. Politicians, green or blue, used this as a tool for their own benefits.
‘Sinhela Ravaya’, another political off shoot, said to have used luxury vehicles, sponsored by politicians. Whose money is that? Innocent, hardworking tax payers’ money regardless of ethnicity. Losers are and have been Sri Lankans.
Politicians with ‘divide and rule’ policy, easily get on with what they do. Quick lesson learned from their western masters. West, with the help of powerful arms, captures lands middle east and kill innocent through their proxies and say their baby ‘ISIS’ as cause of the issue and threat for whole.
Politics and our day to day life need to evolve on ‘just’ and its difficult process, but together, with Sri Lankan rich culture and help of free education, it’s not still impossible task.

Bisthan Batcha
Are you a relative of Dr Milhan Batcha?
All what you are saying is good, but you need two to tango, only one community cannot make it work, we have accepted the Sinhalese will be the majority and for hundreds of years we don’t have a problem or never tried to change the status quo in any way, it’s the Sinhalese who is trying to stifle our progress in every possible way for reasons unknown, Muslims constitute 10% of the population but less than 1% is provided with state employment, same with the university in-take, there is virtually no employment provided for the Muslim women, the public service is 99% filled with Sinhalese.
On top of that they have been opposing in setting up a muslim boys school for the last 100 years, not bars or prostitution centers but a school.
From kiribathgoda to Thihariya not single muslims business establishment is allowed for the last 50 odd years.
The government doesn’t provide us with the employment, doesn’t allow us to engage in business, doesn’t allow us to build schools
The Muslims never complained or made a fuss but have been managing all these while, and now the Sinhalese have taken it for granted that they can getaway with anything and now fiddling with our fundamental rights in freedom of worship, clothing etc. we cannot allow that.
So please call a spade a spade instead of saying something to curry flavor the majority because that will not resolve the underlying issues.
