Yahapālanaya Lapses – Is Mahinda The Option For Muslims?

By Hilmy Ahamed

Hilmy Ahamed

Former Minister, Speaker and Premadasa/Rajapaksa loyalist and National List nominee Parliamentarian A H M Azwer along with a few other Muslim Mahinda diehards claim that Yahapalanaya under President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has betrayed the minorities, especially the Muslim community. I have no reason to disagree and fully subscribe to their opinion, but I also totally disagree with their proposal that the former President, Mahinda Rajapaksa is the option for the Muslims. Mahinda Rajapaksa, from 2009 to 2015 was seen as not a minority friendly President and was not willing to address minority grievances. His total disregard of minorities had nothing to do with the war victory, which was supported by the majority of Sri Lankans including the Muslims. Today, in the continued racist agenda, the Muslim community has become the “Girayata ahuwetchcha puwak gediya”.

Azwer claims that there are 38 complaints by Muslims against damages to their mosques, harassment and threats that have been recorded during the last two years of Yahapalanaya, (agreed), but fails to mention the 538 incidents between 2013 and January 2015 under the Mahinda Rajapaksa Presidency which have been documented by the Secretariat For Muslims, a well recognized civil society initiative of the Muslims, set up to provide technical assistance in research and advocacy for policy and legislative reform. Azwer highlights the shabby treatment meted out to the 21 Parliamentarians by President Sirisena when they signed a Muslim Council petition demanding action against Ven. Galagoda Atte Gnanasara Thero for insulting Almighty Allah, but does not remember the treatment given by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the 18 MPs who flew to Badulla to demand action against the Buddhist extremism and the Aluthgama violence. He probably doesn’t even remember that he and Abdul Cader of Kandy were the only two Muslim Parliamentarians who did not sign the petition demanding action against the Aluthgama violence. Regretfully, the Muslim political leadership has very short memories. When elections come, it is the winning wagon they board.

Mahinda is known even to have used strong-arm tactics to close down mosques, the Mahiyangana and Grandpass ones being good examples. Where were these SLFP Muslim warriors during the period 2005 to 2015? Where were they when Aluthgama burned? Even though Fashion Bug is a commercial entity, the Buddhist extremists backed by monks burnt down their main stores and warehouse. When pressure was brought on to arrest the Buddhist monks and arsonists, Mahinda Rajapaksa is rumored to have called the Fashion bug owners and said “You’all have many other branches across the country, do you think they will be secure if you go to the Police and get the monks arrested?”

From the time Mahinda Rajapaksa was elected in November 2005, the majority in the minority communities did NOT see him as the President of the entire nation. The population of the Northern Province was disenfranchised in 2005 with the support of the LTTE fanatic Velupillai Prabaharan with a 600 million cash bribe. Majority of them would have voted Ranil Wickremesinghe and elected him the President. Mahinda Rajapaksa’s racist approach to alienate the minorities and appease the Sinhala Buddhists was evident early on during his Presidency. His Sinhala chauvinism and military approach to end the war brought him great support amongst the Sinhala Buddhist community. He also generated considerable support from the Muslims towards his efforts at ending the terror of Velupillai Prabaharan, due to the LTTE harassment and eviction of the Northern Muslims. This led to the unprecedented mandate he received at the 2010 Presidential Elections. This victory probably made him believe that he did not need the minorities to get elected to the Presidency which he wanted to contest for a third term by changing the Constitution. It was a fatal miscalculation that sent him home to Medamulana in Weeraketiya in January 2015. Now he is attempting to appease the minority voters and stage a comeback to take over as the Prime Minister. Towards this strategy, there seems to be many actors at play, and there is a strong suspicion that President Maithripala Sirisena may have been coaxed into believing in a fairytale ‘wedding’ where the former SLFPers could form a Government, ousting Ranil Wickramasinghe for the second time by a SLFP conspiracy. President Sirisena may become a willing stakeholder to save his skin from the humiliation of a defeat at future elections if he contested under the SLFP and Mahinda Rajapaksa takes the saddle of a new coalition.

It is true that President Sirisena has elevated the racist hate mongering leader of the Bodu Bala Sena, Ven. Galagoda Atte Gnanasara Thero on par with the most respected Mahanayakes of Asgiriya and Malwatte Chapters, a folly he was tricked into supposedly by Justice and Buddha Sasana Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe who probably did it to win over his Sinhala Buddhist Maharagama/Homagama voters.

The extreme racism of the Rajapaksa administration and the impunity offered to the terror groups will not fade away from the minds of the Muslims for a long time. A few, who have not been able to join the Yahapalanaya bandwagon, may band together to whitewash Rajapaksa crimes, but the Muslim community is in no mood to forgive them.

The Muslims of Sri Lanka have been sandwiched between the Sinhala majority and the Tamil community. During the 30-year-old ethnic conflict, the majority of the Muslims supported the Government and paid a heavy price. Many were murdered including 147, who were gunned down while praying Isha or the late evening prayers at the Kathankudy Jumma mosque. The entire population of the Northern Province was forcibly evicted. Some were given only 2 hours notice and the rest 24 hours. They left with a mere 500 Rupees and no personal belongings except a few documents. They languished in refugee camps in Puttalam and other parts of the country for over 22 years. Azwer is correct when he says that he supported the IDPs when they arrived in Puttalam. It was not just him but there were thousands who supported these unfortunate innocent victims of LTTE terror. They paid this price because they refused to support the Eelam quest of the Liberation Tigers of Thamil Eelam (LTTE). Some Buddhist extremists and misguided Environmentalists are now terrorizing them. They claim that the former lands of the Muslims, which they abandoned due to their eviction, belong to the Wilpattu National park, where its boundaries are now being extended to include the lands of the IDPs for which they have deeds and Government permits dating back a hundred years. What a travesty of justice.

The GOTA Factor

I am going to have my entire Muslim community firing all guns at me when I say, “GOTA PROBABLY WAS NOT A RACIST”. He has been accused of being the creator of the monstrous Bodu Bala Sena (BBS). The labeling came because he provided impunity to the racist extremists and also inaugurated the short-lived Bodu Bala Sena office in Galle. I strongly believe that he willingly wore that hat to defend his brother Mahinda Rajapaksa, who probably was the one fully behind the BBS and the extremism and racism experienced by the minorities after the end of the war in 2009. I had the privilege of asking the former Defense Secretary, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, as to why he went for the opening of the Galle office of Bodu Bala Sena. His answer was simple and spontaneous. He said that Venerable Kirana Vimalajothi was their family priest from Weeraketiya. One day, he had come with Milinda Moragoda and had asked him to open a Buddhist Centre in Galle. He hadn’t known that it was a BBS Centre. As a Buddhist, he did not see any harm in opening a Buddhist Centre. If I remember right, he further said, “Please listen to my speech at the opening, I made it clear that all communities will have to live together, while practicing their different religions”. Having worked with him on the “Greese Yaka” and Halal crisis, I have no reason to disbelieve Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

There are rumors that Gotabaya Rajapaksa will enter the fray at the next elections. There are also rumors that he will spend some time in China, studying International Diplomacy. Is the Chinese grooming him for the top seat by taking him away to train him to rule? Their massive investments in this country would need to be protected, and what better way than to have one of the Rajapaksas? I have mixed feelings of Gotabaya Rajapaksa taking the helm. I have great respect for his efficiency in delivering promises on development issues, but cannot say the same with regard to his iron-fisted approach. (He created clean cities in Colombo and the suburbs, which has today ‘gone back to the dogs or as my former Principal would have said Dogs have come to the city’.)

In the coming months, Sri Lanka is predicted to face the worst ever drought since 1948, but I see a much bigger threat to the stability of the Nation with imminent political divorces and new partners living together. President Sirisena is causing a major rift by taking unilateral decisions, an example being the reduction of the lottery tickets to 20 rupees after Ravi Karunanayake increased it to 30. If he were following the good governance principles, he would have asked Ravi to review and reduce without insulting the Minister of Finance through a unilateral declaration. This is not the first time the President has been lacking in tact and statecraft. The UNP on the other hand has made enough blunders from the bond scam to the Volkswagen scandal. It is time that the political leaders sat together and decide either to continue the marriage or go for an immediate divorce before the next Local Government Elections. That would give the country an opportunity to send a strong signal as to who should continue till 2020.

He is not outof mind, these men are so blind to bring the Wadakaya back to the ground.

If these men had been teenager, you would not be surprised, but I really dont know what goes through the punnaku eaters of Srinath kind.. when the men would ever grasp it.

Now GR, MR, NR, BR, are all caught in the act for the funds abuses – that are not just few millions but billions. BANKS in Dubai according to ministers have confirmed the sums and the names of the depositers.
        Can you imagine ?

Sin Choo Appu, where are the billions. Not one cent has been proven. Why the hell can’t they find it if they are stashed away. Just do not go on repeating the same as was done during the elections. Yes, I too believe they stole, but a man is not guilty until proven. I would be happy if all of them are brought to galle face and hanged, but before that they need to prove that they are a f….king bunch of thieves.

Two dumb asses in your eyes have achieved all high levels sofar.

      1) UNHRC head praises lanken achievements towards HR improvement

      2) GSP plus is underway to be effective from April or May 2017

      3) Only FCID and CID issues though continue, but on snail pace – that has lot to do with local traditional way of court handlings. Even Rajaakshe biased men are still in courts and other law and order institutions

      4) Dubai Banks and the bank deposits of stolen state funds are on focus and work is underway… they the state have now assurances these deposits of Rajaakshe family amountiing to few of US billions – are available

      5) Development projects have been continued
      6) New giant projects in Hambantota and other areas have been planned

      7) Constitutional changes or new constitution process is in progress with JVP and other backing

      8) Former and current frauds being focused with COPE reports being given a place unlike the case in Maharaja who just threw those reports came from INDEPENENT committiee ended in dustbins

      9) Nothern reconcilitation projects are in progress
      10) Parliament is becoming stronger in term sof taking decisions that had been in the days of Meeharaka Rajaakseh et al who only made deciisions at thier tea table. Only a family controlled the island nation s deicions, With penissless senior leftists like Wasudewa and other like minded men had been silent – also not forgetting, Drama queen like WimalaWATHIE Buruwanse – let enjoying and pleasing his families providing the with vehicles for their LUXUS. Now the bugger is ended up in a jail… will have to face it again and again next days.

      11) Not forgetting that independent commissions such police commisssion and election commission and the like have been given freedom to work by thei rown.

I can add more, but YOU the evil men that give a priority to EXTREMISM to head up – would never grasp it even if you sepatagenerians would die tomorrow. Good luck Srinath.

YOu may be enjoying your LGBT right ? You guys should be punished for all the harm being done to Ranil. This week, I really felt like proud- seeing him holding neck and neck discussions with european and international leaders.
I have the feeling you could well be one to have delivering such LGBT services to most abusive Rajaakshes. I am born and bred to stand against Rajaakshe. No means I will never allow them return to power. Rajapakseh media men spread all the derogotary terms to Ranil, but his succeeded it. I have no doubt, he will succeed even more in the near future.
My parents were born leftists. They also worked for CP in 70ties. SA wICKRamsinghe was one of their favourite figures. I had never had the chance to vote to lanken elections. I like Lalith Athulath mudali and his principles. Today i dont have any other choices to support Ranil and his young blood in the party. All others in SLFP except Mr Sirisena are not my choices. Even if young men could do some good work.

    Leaders of SL;

Rat – SHOULD BE SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR THE MURDER OF THE ORIGINAL MAHASON BALAKAAYA

Mots – SHOULD BE IN JAIL FOR THE THEFT OF PUBLIC COFFERS AND PERPETUATION OF KLEPTOCRACY

ChandriMots – SHOULD BE IN JAIL FOR CORRUPTION AND CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE WHILE IN POWER PRIOR TO Mots

Got – great for uber conservative Sinhalese who will sing carols in February if this fellow says its Christmas. Bad for Buddhists who believe in the middle path. Great for so-called Buddhists who should really be Wahabis.

Majority of Lankan parliamentarians – should be jailed – we are past the point of investigations – for gross incompetence, theft and criminal activities

Current supporters of LTTE (i.e. people who think Praba would have been a great president) – SHOULD BE BURNED ALIVE.

Soldiers of the Tri-Forces – WAR HEROES!!!!! THE ONLY SOLDIERS WHO DESERVE NO RECOGNITION – AND JAIL TIME – ARE THE ONES WHO COMMITTED RAPE OF CIVILIANS.

If the Muslims want special rights, they can go to Saudi Arabia. We cannot even take a small statue to worship and they have thousands of mosques here. Its time the President stopped it.

Hilmy was looked at as Voice of the Muslims.
It beats me and everyone else to see him lay the path to a Gota presidency. Has Hilmy been rewarded from the loot of the Jarapakse’s to try and promote Gota!!- the devil reincarnate!!! Has Hilmy lost his independence of thought and beginning to see dollars before his community or country or has he been infected by the deadly and stinking Azwer virus. Most of Hilmy’s previous articles in the Colombo telegraph on BBS had Gota ‘s pictures on the article posing with BBS monks.. Hilmy you need a gap year from your work ,, take a rest man !!! Come back when your mind no longer fogged and head cleared!!!

I am no Gota fan. He personally send his special unit with an search and arrest warrant on me. They ransacked my office for three days and found nothing to incriminate me. He has done whatever damage he could to me, but there is no justification for me to target him politically. I have said it clearly that I will not accept his iron fisted approach and assure you, I am no fan of his. I do believe that he is not a racist and that needs to be told. I may be wrong, but I must have my freedom to have my own judgement.

I know hilmy well enough to not trade the Muslim community with anyone. He is the only bold Muslim who stood up to Mahinda-Gota tyranny when they were in power. He risked everything to bring Yahapalanaya, but has not sucked up to them ever. He has become the Muslim voice against any threat to the Muslims. Hakeem, Risard and all other Muslim turncoats need to learn from this bold Muslim from Akurana

A very well summed article without any prejudice. Yes I too have lot of respect for Gota, and who knows ,may be he was den nised by his own family . so was Joseph by his brothers. If This government does not deliver and also decipline The unjust Justice Minister another misfit appointee along with the Ministry of Tourism and Education, while The Ministry of Justice& buddist affairs should have been given to Karuband The ministry of Tourism should have remained with Navin or given to Mahinde Samerasinhe & Education definetly to Mohan Lal Grero . if The present government son not deliver and If Gota can guarantee the Muslims and Tamils basic rights ,Then Got a will be President in 2020 , other God no early beings Will be cable of stopping it. And even to someone whom we have developed suspicion over issues not proved ye,derserves the benefit of doubt. We must admit he is a fantastic Administrator & even the entire majority and the forces trembles at just the mention if his name and every one including the whole world kneels in his presenc. Facts are to be faced, they are not stubborn.

From the UNP to the SLFP, then from the SLFP to the UNP; so it went on for several decades. Now the combinations. Has the people, be it Sinhalese, Tamils or Muslims; seen any indications of living in peace and harmony and with a reasonable deal for their daily lives. No one can say ‘yes’. So it will go on, unless the people realise that they have been taken along the garden path over the years by the UNP and SLFP in turn. ‘Wait…wait…wait..and wait; we will deliver the good’ has been their repeated slogan; but never delivered the good. Can they be expected to do at any time. Not at all as it is their political culture of only promises. Writers such as Hilmy should propagate a new thinking among people than keep on talking of the ‘spoilt circle’ again and again. Particularly the Muslims need proper guidance in politics. They should be mobilised to think in terms of ‘progressive’ politics away from the regressive of the past

Many thought that Hilmi was getting in to Muslim politics. Now it is clear that he will be with Gota. Muslims will not support him. That is for sure because whatever Hilmi says, gota is the father of BBS. Not sure whether he is the father of Gnanasara

integration with the rest of the populace & reaching out to your community along with ones religious rituals are far more sacred.

      Nitzen,
I dont think it is fine to describe it that way, Since therea are even unbiased msulimss in this country. They have never been no violent as had been our sinhaalays led by some extremists groups. However, in the recent past, I have noticed there are young muslims .. among them such extremists group buiding is emerging. That is common to any country and nations where minority rights are being suppressed. See alone our men unnecessarily made them cornered with that Halal issue. Entire DEVELOPED world is no means agaainst halala brandings as Muslims in general hold it as should be for their reglious recognitions. However, if we the buddhist hold some values as our standards, why not non-buddhists allow their demands .. being not addressed. BBS and the govt led groups were not fair in that halal issues.
Like the case in Germany and USA, the kind of issues could have been settled if Govt together with police punished BBS accordingly.
No matter religioius cloaks have been worn, Germans, Americans, ENglish and all would never wait to do the due against if even such citizens in those costumes woudl have been found suspicious in criminals acts.
In srilanka, they the politicians and Polices are scared of Sanga costume even today. We did nt overlook it in the Mangalaramaya issues lately. If I were the police, I would arrest that Sumanathera in Mangalararmaya, not caring any mediatons of the politicians. That is what i LEARNT from the west.

MUSLIMS ALAWAYS SUPPORTED THE PARTY OF POWER. THEIR MAIN GOAL WAS TO GET MINISTRY POSITIONS ANF HELP THEIR OWN PEOPLE. RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION IS NOW A NEW ISSUE !!!. WHEN THE 1983 POGROM DESTROYED THOUSANDS OF MINORITY CITIZENS, THERE WAS NO MUSLIM VOICE TO CONDEMN THE ACT.

NOBODY OVERLOOKED THOSE MUSLIM MINISTERS DID NOT REPRESENT THEIR PEOPLE AS THE PEOPLE EXPECTED THEM: RANJAN SHED MORE TEARS AT THE TIME THAT INNCIENT GIRL RHYZANNA WAS FOR NOT GOOD REASONS BEHEADED IN SAUDI. BUT IN THE SAME TIME; THOSE POWERFUL MEN THEN WERE CLOSE TO MAHARAJA JUST ENJOYED THEIR DAY NOT PROACTIVELY WORKING AGAINST THAT ILLEGAL BEHEADING.
Even today, Thadjudeen case, Only ONE MINISTER of them questioned while all other stayed as if those issues no matter to them. That is lanken muslim political mentality.
If that Azwer wanted to spice the extrementa of Rajaakshes, he would have done no matter injustice woudl have been number one in the agenda of Rajaakshe. I always as a sinhalaya found those lanken muslims leaders not sufficiently fought for their communities. Even today Asath Salley is alone to fight against their community while other senior men stay licking the balls of high men of the govt. That is it. Just disgusting politicians. Tamil politicians should be exemplary to those men: I am alaso asking why dont we have any burgher MP in the parliament. We have over 50 k burghers living in the country. These are the pot holes in lanken democrazy.

Prasana .there are no Buddhist Citizens in Saudi so no obligations to change their regulations for a handful who needs their jobs for a short period.Meanwhile Indonesia, Malaysia , Bangladesh are among the majority Muslim populated Countries where the Buddhist Citizens enjoy full freedom of Traditional Buddhism. Saudibdoes not even permit Traditional S ffSuffism aka Lovers of the Saints to even build a Tomb and seek for intersession which is the core belief of The Traditional Suffi Muslim. On the other hand, The Saudi Version of Islam is based on Scholar Abdul Wahab , which is a strict puristic Monotheism. Its their country ,you are not a Citizen and there are no Buddhist Citizens. If you are not agreement with their law ,then you should not even be Willing to go and work there. Every nation has its regulations enter in , Italy ,Considers Rome sacred as its Vatican and Saudi Considers the entire Saudi Arabia as its Vatican .

And me enlighten you ,Dubai be biz hub of a member state of The GCC, have allowed Free worship of Statues ofvall religions which ever has statue worship, although there are no Citizen s of other faiths besides Muslims, it is a businesses hub and Saudi is considered the most Sacred place for Monthiest worship. And as for Kuwait you will find a very large Chatholic Church facing the sea which us the first thing you will notice when you get close to land and the Church also has a large Crusifix with Christ’s Satutue afixed on it. This is only because there are about 1+ % Catholic Kuwaiti Citizens in Kuwait, so by Islamic law as be the final declaration ,to you be your religion or ways and to me be mine. even in Saudi if there are any Citizens who are Buddhist or any other faith then theyvwould by Islamic law need to create a separate federation for them to practice their none monotheism. As long as there are no citizens they ate not obliged to ,and like I mentioned earlier the Muslim Majority nations have full filled their duties to their citizen s if other faiths.

@Hilmy – I too would endorse that Gota is not a Racist, there is A difference between being one who loves and cares for hhis race and a racist . Gota as far as l know isca strong and practing Buddhist ,even when it comes to food. But the rest oof the accusations on the man remains bto be proved by the Country’s Court of law and until such the man is innocent. ( I personally know the feeling of Being branded and accused for action I am not guilty of , in thus Country most of the worst crime are communitted sometimes by those who speculate. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty & also those who point fingers must also be Clean.

How absurd an assumption and how unethical it is to suggest that if a Citizen asks for His birthright to suggest a form of ethnic cleansing with a tongue in the cheek,by suggesting to go to Saudi. Does this mean the Hindus Should be sent to India ,The Christians to Rome ? Then You may have to think of moving to Nepal ,So we can all be rightful concise folks and handover the nation to Native Veddah .(NATIIVE VEDDA are you around ? are you willing to takeover the land of Your Ancestors. We are all planing to be Rohingyas -:))))

I am agree that some of the traditions Muslims keep harping on may be considered to reforms. But denial of basic right to ones dietry sums to humanity ,and even to deny a basic his headscarf with a basic modest dress ( not the covering of the whole face ) and long abayas .but a modern fit in the vogue with a headscarf morecas an identity and today also have become vogue ,by dinissing it as Arabic is a complete violation of human rights and total discrimination. How come in a Nation of Buddhist ethics pur ladies dress in most revealing western dress have become Acceptable to a conservative cultured people and a modest dress covering most of ones body has become unacceptable? If one set of women have the right to reveal parts of her body ,what us so wrong in women who Choose to cover ? Neither the western ,nor the north Indian Sahawr kamis ,nor the Arab head Scarf are Sri Lankan traditional dress. But in a civilised society people should have the liberty to eat what they won’t .and dress appropriately not to overstep the culture. And if it is okay for people to eat meat half done from gored or killed with with various non Abrahamic slaughter ,which clogs the entire blood in the animal and while the others by more today with concern of hygiene and health even prevailing over religious requirements want to eat blood drain animals ,so much to ask that they need to be chased out of their rightful birth country ? These and their right to pray ! Are the basics. No Buddhist bir Christian, or Hindu is denied their basic rights in Muslim Majority countries where they are Citizens. Pls stop promoting illogical idelogies just to promote hate, it is time for reconciliation and join hands to build the nation and abtime for healing. Be a good Buddhist and practice the most important Buddhist ethic – Live & Let live.

Generally a racist or a bigot is defined by his own attitude towards a people or a individual only because of what the people bare or an individual, and most of them are people who are losers who prefer to cling to the blame game , they would rather blame others, plot to distroy other s,spread lies, fabrications, destroy a whole family,a community, deny their basic birth rights etc, because they fear competition and as losers they rather fulfil their Jealousy with these cheep tactics and justify such unethical practice to justify even murder. Now we need clear cut proof that Gota ,was behind Muslim business man’s kidnapping&Extortion,if he ordered the ugly handling of the final actions of a few Soldiers unruly actions ( Please remember ,the US Army & their alies committed the unspeakable crimes to humanity, they raped a 14 year girl ,killed her parents, killed her baby brother and poured kerosene on her after raping her and burnt her alive and to date no real punishment have be imposed on the criminals even after proving the crime, this why you must avoid wars far as possible the evil ones wait for warscto fulfil their urges, and it is not possible always for the man in charge to have full control on such beastly people.)who knows someone who really had a severe grudge against Prabakaran and his loyalist s may hay have been behind the white Van and the rest of the crimes ,or may be some may have abused the law at the expences of Goya’s name. Only time will tell. Like the sad stories of the Kataragame queen& Sagerika Gomez’s tales.

I am in complete agreement for some of the outdated traditions that Muslims keep harping on to be considered for reforms.

But the denial of basic right to one’s dietary sums to inhumanity including anyone’s choice of attire, like the basic headscarf of The Muslims women that comes with some regular modern but modest dresses (I am not referring the covering of the whole face and long abayas & Canvas shoes or wearing the scarfs to resemble the Pharos) but a modern fit keeping in with the vogue with a headscarf as an identity and today like any other dresses this also have become vogue and it also helps protect the hair and skin from environmental hazards, dismissing it as Arabic is racism and a complete violation of human rights and total discrimination.

How come in a Nation of Buddhist ethics most of our ladies(Including some posh Muslims) dress in most revealing western dresses are acceptable by such a strong conservative cultured people and a modest dress covering most of one’s body has become unacceptable? If one set of women have the right to reveal parts of her body what makes it unacceptable for another set to want to cover ? after all, it is their bodies, do they have no right to even decide to cover their own bodies instead of revealing? Neither the western, the north Indian Shawa khamis nor the Arab headScarf are Sri Lankan traditional dresses. But in a civilised society people must have the liberty to decide how to dress and what to eat – like the Muslim meat, if it is okay for people to eat meat half done from gored or killed with various non-Abrahamic slaughter which clogs the entire blood in the animal and while some even eat fried blood, the Muslim must have the right to eat what he considers is fit for his palate, today more and more people understands the concern of hygiene and health issues connected to consuming meat of undrained blood from meat and are considering it as more than a mere religious ritual or requirement. are these basic rights including the right to pray to the divinity they believe in, is it to much to ask?, (which is often accused by some to be worshipping the devil in no religion the devil and God are synonymous and besides no other faith in the face of the earth condemns the devil as much as Islam does)

Does a citizen deserve banishment from the land where their forefathers were born, lived and died in and they are too rightfully born Citizens for merely asking for these basic birthrights? No Buddhist, Christian or Hindu is denied their basic rights in any Muslim Majority country where they are Citizens.

Please stop promoting illogical fake ideologies just to promote hate, it is time for reconciliation and to join hands to build the nation and a time for healing.

Be a good Buddhist and practice the most important Buddhist ethic –

    Live & Let live.

From day one This nation had its Independences, every Political party or Politician only wanted to topple or sabotage the government in power the only selfish agenda of every Politician, but in the olden days. The politicians were willing to wait for their turn.

Since the announcement of world bank money coming in everyone seems to be in a mighty hurry to topple the government, now that the national government has done all the dirty work of going begging door to door and doing whatever it can to get some recognition from the international community, every have suddenly woken from their slumber and now can not sleep knowing there is money in the once-bankrupt treasury .

No sincere willingness to work towards rebuilding.

Now The time has down to really test the integrity of His Excellency The President of Sri Lanka and also to put to test his wisdom.

If He understands what The JVP and The Former President’s outcries really means, they both have the same motives and the next move is to come together.

The President needs to hold on to the executive powers and appoint a deputy Prime Minister from his party whom he can trust and strengthen the government.

At 2020, let anyone run for election, but now if you let anyone sabotage your national government’s achievements at this stage when you are about to reap the fruits, it will be most regretful.

The Ball in Your Court Your Excellency.

DO NOT LET THE WB MONEY BE TAKEN AWAY FROM THE PEOPLE!

SOME PEOPLE CAN NOT SLEEP UNTIL THEY GET THIER HANDS ON IT.

With some of our fellow Citizens it is like the story of Lazarus and the rich man and Abraham’s reply from Luke 16:19-31

Quote:(Abrahm) neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.’”

There are a segemnt among our Ctizens who enjoy Self-Mutilation. They will not change .

Thy prefer the Country to never prosper and they do not mind starving their family and themselves as long as those who are capable never have the opportunity .

Gotabaya has been identified well and truly as a monster murderer who pilfered the country’s wealth with impunity along with their notorious brothers, their siblings. henchmen. No sensible person can ever forgive nor forget their well orchestrated pilferage of our country’s wealth and high handed crimes committed against the people of the country. In China, stealing, committing corruptions by government officials is facing the death squad. We ought to not to think of any goodness in these criminals and neither they are praiseworthy. All what they did in the name of development and maintenance, Gotabaya did not do these services for free, for the sake of love for mother Lanka? He gets his fat commissions, even car parking commission went to his pocket, mind you, even though he be a vegetarian never eat flesh and may be a practicing buddhist, can we make him an angel? Are we really practicing buddhist in the first place? rather we are pagans/idol worship sinhalease. Count their action and brand them accordingly. Never praise the criminals for God Sake.

pradeep YOU ARE ENTITIELD to your opinion , but all what is been told about the man has never been proved , even our CID is not able to prove a thing, look how long they are hanging on to the Tajudeen,an innocent humanbeing killd for no wrong ,and The Malays are generally peaceful folks in this country ,who could have easily opted for better life in malaysia , but through true love decided to stay and serve Sri lanka, even the two best of Army intelligents that were killed were Malays and LTTE was an easy a convient sourceto blame back then.

If The FCID & other law enforcement can not prove anyhting then ,we may no longer have the right to accuse these individuals.

Economy and development was under BR . Defence was GR .
Tharunyata Hetak was NR . Speaker was CR and on the
Top was MR making siblings’ life easier ! And a chief
minister , Srilankan airline chief , ambassador to
USA , Thiru Nadesan and a few more closely knit
relatives like MP Lal Gunasekara were all there to
prop up the family tree growing and growing with no one
to stop until 2015 . Only one question really worth to
be asked at this point of time ! Is it a country of all
Srilankans or one family WELFARE ? Nothing else need to
be proved , asking people’s trust to serve the people
and using it to ‘self service’ is good enough to put
the whole lot where they belong . Let them not decide
what the country want and let the people do it . Vasu,a
man of 78 , Mahinda in his seventies and by 2020 75 ,
Dinesh 67 and in 2020 seventy yr old,the minimum another
five years shelf life ! THE VOTERS MUST SEND A CLEAN
SIGNAL TO THESE GUYS THAT OUR COUNTRY IS NOT SHORT OF
YOUNG TALENTED BLOODS TO RUN THE SHOW(OF COURSE IT COULD
END UP NEXT GENERATION THIEVES,WHO KNOWS ?).Finally , a
word about GOTA and some of his so called good jobs like
clean Colombo . ARTIFICIAL DEVELOPMENTS can be done by
just any one who lived in a country like USA for a good
long FIFTEEN YEARS. Cut and paste doesn’t need special
skills ! And with the brothers having the spoons in
their hands and a third term dream with the 18th
amendment passed , OH YES , THE ROAD CROSSINGS COULD BE
EVEN IN GOLD AND THERE WILL ALWAYS BE PEOPLE OVER THE
    MOON !
