Acting IGP Orders Immediate Investigation Over Weapons Theft

Acting Inspector General of Police S. M. Wickremesinghe today ordered the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to immediately commence an investigation into the theft of weapons from the Laggala police station in Matale.

An unidentified person, dressed in a sarong and shirt is reported to have stolen a T-56 rifle along with several revolvers around 1 am today from the vault of the police station. A separate investigation has been launched to verify if the policemen who were on duty at the station were drunk at the time the incident occurred.

The crime rate has seen an increase across the country over the past few months, with several shooting incidents reported including in Colombo.

Best thing lanken regional authorities to do is go for computerisation every bezirks. Then through data bank, all the data can be caputured and be alert on any dangers that could come again on the people that have been beated by a 30 year long war.

I am afraid my take on this issue could be empirical.
The actg:IGP has ordered an investigation! Suppose the other sections of the Police had already commenced an investigation before the IGP,has ordered same!
Is it a must that without the IGPs instructions the Policemen need to relax?
An obvious must of Duty should not be made out to be a Virtue!

Why were those on duty at the time, NOT interdicted?
Not even transferred – the usual “punishment” for policemen, for any crime of commission, omission & negligence.

Mr.G.L. Peiris gave a statement to the media on capture of arms at Chavakactcheri, Jaffna, recently & where the arms were to be sent ,
before police started their investigations and its better to contact
him as he may have a clue.

Jokes apart, Govt.must seriously investigate as to why arms are being
collected now after a lull period of seven years and why army officials
on active duty, met one of the opposition leaders recently, as per media reports .Is there something in the offing for people to get concerned. If the media made wrong and inflammatory publications ,the govt. should ensure that such statements are withdrawn using the front page and publishers punished under the existing laws,if any, as people should not panic for nothing as they have matters to worry about.

This is the work of the LTTE rump, backed by Tamil diaspora and Western powers. The 2nd attempt at LTTE resurgence after the Chavakachcheri recovery of explosives. His (ex) Excellency Mahinda Rajapakse would know better through his military and Police Intelligence. For, they habitually apprise the ex-Excellency first before informing the PM or President. Mr. Rajapakse should telephone Prime Minister Ranil and alert him, before meeting the media. It is a national crisis involving Tamil terrorists. All patriotic journalists must rally round and write sensational stories urging the govt. not to relax its guard against LTTE terrorists. All Tamil homes in Matale district should be hounded and the terrorists hunted down.

What a bunch of “Keystone Cops” of the silent movie era we have. The Police officers cannot function without orders from this newly acting I.G.P.?
At the end of the story it is the stupid Cops themselves who were the Robbers of the Weapons.Hurrah new acting I.G.P. you should now get a Presidential medalof honour for vicarious bravery, sitting on your Airconditioned throne. What a bunch of no hopers we now have running our once decent democratic country.

This is just a story from the best “Who done it series. Here we have a Police station with at least 4 officers on duty who are so bloody incompetent they cannot stop a man clad in a sarong to stop him from stealing some very heavy weapons such as a T56 Rifle and several revolvers. Where the hell did he tuck this loot without being observed by all this contingent of cops.Dont think it was under his sarong? The bulging armory {Other than his Genitals} would surely impede his getaway. Here is a good case for a local Sherlock Holmes to solve
So long as the detective is not a relation of a Politician, then we can expect a good clean whitewash.

You are really brilliant Ruwan with a fine sense of humor. Keystone Cops sleeping at the Wheel while robbers dressed in a sarong loot the Police armory. And the buggers cant even follow this heavy weapons laden robber because they were all in the game or pissing drunk.Just imagine what kind of Police work these buggers do when they haul poor motorists for crossing a white line while, they threaten them with dire consequences unless there is a thousand Rupee note under the traffic ticket. We thought this new regime gave us some relief from these Police and Political monsters, they have not changed an iota. Nepotism, Bribery and corruption are still the name of the game. Yapalanaya all talk and a lot of Bullshit. When will the poor ever get any justice/
