Aiyoo Sri Lanka, What To Do?

By Suranimala

Let me at the outset say that this missive is not for the discerning. The few who are would understand why I make this note as simple as possible. I tried much as I could during my stay with you to make most of you understand where you are heading as a nation but failed to stir the inner conscience of the majority. I was not allowed to complete my task. I was transported to a better place though the team that plotted my departure thinks otherwise.

Be that as it may, I should share some ideas with you. This is not for the “I am alright Jacks” who play all sides to carry on regardless. They finance, coerce and pander to the utter corrupt politicians and carry on regardless as long as they are “alright”. Nevertheless, it’s the larger rural majority who decide at election time to hand over the country to a set of rogues to plunder exactly as they have done since independence. They do so as they continue to be retained as ignorant, misguided, racist, uneducated, slothful, and dependent on state largesse. But consider, how much longer can Sri Lanka go on as a sovereign nation in this manner? The writing is on the wall. One country is promising a ” free lunch”. They do so as it is cheaper (like with free vaccines et al) to cultivate a set of politicians for a greater bounty than having to compete on equal ground with other countries. For how long?

Take the Colombo Port City for one, as an example. Much is spoken of the Bill that is being voted on right now in Parliament. It would pass muster. The composition of the Commission that would administer the Port City has been hotly debated as much as some clauses which are deemed to be at variance with the Constitution. Many argue that the country is being sold to another. Sri Lanka’s sovereignty is in peril and so on. There would not be Parliamentary oversight nor fiscal oversight by the Auditor General is discussed. Does it matter at this stage? Read on.

I am no longer with you since I was transported by powers that be, to a higher place much against my will. My heart bleeds for you people. Get wise you Sri Lankans. Simply being educated to get a job is not enough. Let me give you an early warning though I am privy to how the Port City programme is going to affect you people in the future. It is probably too late now. I digress from the important discussion. Consider,

Why did you wait for the Port City to be built before considering the model for fiscal, administrative, and other controlling structures? Or were they secretly agreed upon? Who allowed the project to commence prior to ticking all the boxes?

Why has not a single politician from amongst the 225 or the intelligentsia asked that question?

Why must I yet, from up here have to point you in the right direction?

Now that the Port City is being built both sides of the Parliament will agree that it must be made a success but argue on the working model as there is no way to pull back, quite like the Hambantota Port, Airport et al.

Did you not learn from the Hambantota Port, Airport, Suriyawewa Cricket Ground, Convention Centre to name a few. First, you allow building, spend money and then squabble over the system of management. Are you that stupid?

You do not do that for other projects? Be it to improve much needed infrastructure, capital expenditure, or imports. The local tender documents and the requirements therein are exhaustive. Every imaginable scenario is envisaged and pored over a microscope. Of course, the lobbying will be there by the ” I’m alright Jacks” despite the seemingly watertight requirements. But that is another matter.

Nay, I think all of you in Parliament are corrupt. You shout till you are hoarse in the Chambers, calling each other a rogue but that is simply to position yourself to wrest power at the next election. Then it’s your turn and the earlier lot call you rogues. Simple cases such as Wimal Weerawansa’s falsified birth certificates and Passports are not solved and the culprit convicted. It takes only the call up of his applications and proof of his signature on them. The Attorney General of the time should hide in shame. Consider Wimal Weerawansa’s rise since then. Who voted for him in droves? This is but one investigation. You know of hundreds of nay thousands of others. It simply keeps repeating as it has since independence. I am amused at the word ” Baiyo” being used liberally. OK, I will accept it as long as there is not a more degrading word in the lexicon. The religious clergy are no exception. They are recipients of everything imaginable free from the government and the people in addition to laying claim to exalted positions. Since they dabble in politics have you evaluated their contribution?

How much longer are you to go on like this? As long as the politicians and ” I am alright Jacks” keep throwing a few morsels your way? Is that your wish for a better future for your children, grandchildren, and the generations to follow? Why not insist on English as the medium of instruction across the nation? Take my word for it, this nonsense will stop within one generation. Till such time it would be “aba saranai” to you.

Meanwhile, enjoy free education, health, fertiliser, pensions, guaranteed prices, and a plethora of other freebies on borrowed money from tax paid overseas funding till one pawnbroker comes knocking on your door.

    Suranimala,
    All good, well said.
The CoC and CDS, both say in unison as a chorus, “Everything is good and alright”. We are confused, as to whom to believe? If these 2 say so and the Religious high and mighty also join in the chorus, that group must be right, is it not?
That’s unfortunately, what my intelligence as a Sri Lankan, education and knowledge imparted to me makes me understand of the situation.
6.9 Million Voters, including the elite, Eliya, Viyath Maga, GMOA, et all, cannot be termed as fools, could you?
There are One too many of them to be wrong, not even in Resplendent Sri Lanka.
May be that situation may change after the “Gonibilla Team’, robs us of all the possible wealth, leaves us, stranded in this island at the mercy of the foreign masters responsible, proceed on to the very distant (on the other side of the earth – so far that their time line would be a.m. when SL is the equivalent numerical p.m. of the same hour), “Land of Opportunity” – that’s how everybody describes that land – when they so decide, to enjoy their spoils of ‘War or aptly termed, Raid to Replenish 2019’.
We definitely would keep you posted when that occurs.
Perhaps, you may come to know before our missive as you are seeing the happening in this land from Hi-above.

Simple. Split the island into 3 mono ethnic independent nations of Sinhala Only Elam, Tamil Elam and Muslim Elam, equitably and relocate people.

Until then it is Aiyoo Sri Lanka!

But that’s how our Lankan politicians have operated since independence – start huge projects that will make them money, but with little consideration for how the masses would fulfill the obligations. In the end, the only thing that sustained the motherland was the employment in the Middle East.

The only person who understood the needs of the people was Sirimavo. But the other politicians were impatient at her progress and overturned her very quickly for more lucrative deals for themselves.

Often I wondered about your sudden disappearance after elections. To what you had written add current pandemic/ economic management and not just those 7 million but the country is now on a free fall. As I often mention there is light/hope at the end but the tunnel seems never ending in Lanka.

Exactly the truth. And they overestimate srilanken nation. We are known to Arab world as ” house maid supplying poor begging nation/country ” , to Italians it is the same. But to Australia it s bit different since a significant portion of degree holders migrated to that continent. 😍Never forget compared to 1 mio srilanken unskilled workers in entire Arab world, educated srilankens in abroad relatively a tiny portion. 😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉 This srilanken s should be well aware of. Current president of sl was a minor worker in the US. NOW U GUYS WOULD NT BE SURPRISED THE LEVELS WE HAVE ACHIEVED AS OF TODAY UNDER GOTABAYA ☹☹☹☹☹☹☹

I think whoever is using Lasantha Wickramatunga’s penn name Surnamila and copying his style of WRITINF is being very offensive to the Late Lasantha and his family by using his name in vain.Using Lasantha’s voice from beyond the grave is so low. Whoever is behind this should be ashamed.

A belated but heartfelt thank you to the five-judge-bench headed by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya for their determination on the constitutionality of the Port City Bill.
Once again, Sri Lanka’s Chief Justice and the Supreme Court have proved to the world their ability to demonstrate careful, independent, impartial judicial craftsmanship even under the heavy influence of powerful local and foreign elements.
The delay in posting my comment occurred as I wanted to check some information related to the Bill.
According to the Speaker, the determination of the Supreme Court has forced the government to include over 100 amendments to the original Bill.
    Seriously, over 100 amendments!!!!!!!
That means, if the original Bill had been enacted, Port City could have become a seperate state and “Sri Lanka” could have become “Chee Lanka”.
The entire country should be immensely grateful to Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya for saving Sri Lanka at the last moment!!!
The same way, we must hail all petitioners who had the courage and strength to stand against the “Chee Lanka Port City Bill” and file 20 petitions in just 48 hours. I am sure this is a world record.
Stupid Rajapaksa government should know that the value of our sea sand and quarry stones used by China free of charge is much higher than their $1.5 billion investment.

      Champa,

Your 5-judge bench better keep tabs on China actually accepting the 2700 crypto and bitcoin Lankan workers. and not relegating them to manual jobs in Port City. For China will be very careful with its 2.5-billion dollar investment and would not want any privy from Lankans into their carefully laid out plans.

I’m amused at so much support Sri Lanka gets from the Tamil Elam and Muslim Elam lobbies over the port city issue!!!

That means the port city project must be good for SL.

GATAM – I already see the cover page of COLOMBO PORT CITY
PASSPORT on the net – faked? It is dark blue and headed in
English, Chinese & Sinhala. The Commission will be named
shortly with a convenient lock-down is my guess

Certainly not. If that was the case they would have voted for the bill.

China surely knows the ethnic compostion of the NO vote!

I don’t know about SL but this is very good for Sinhala Buddhists. They had prospered when they were subjects of the Portuguese and the British. Reason being the majority of them are stupid and cannot think for themselves , to make things worse they are also lazy, for them to be productive they need a master driving them; the best they could find is China or India no other country will waste their time.,

        Burt,
Dumbo, Sinhalayo did not prosper during Portuguese, Dutch or British rule. Sinhalayo who are the Native people in Sinhale were oppressed by colonial rulers. Sinhalayo who have a proud history running into thousands of years did not want to work as slaves to colonial rulers. So, they brought millions of Demalu from Hindusthan who were willing to work 12 hours just for two ‘Roties’.
Those stupid Sinhalayo gave a humiliating defeat to Demala terrorists who thought they are smart and cannot be defeated militarily. Now, guys suffering from ‘Defeat-Syndrome’ want to ridicule the winner.
        —-
“They had prospered when they were subjects of the Portuguese and the British. Reason being the majority of them are stupid and cannot think for themselves , to make things worse they are also lazy,…”

“Dumbo, Sinhalayo did not prosper during Portuguese, Dutch or British rule.”

As a matter of fact you are partially right because although schools were established Sinhala Buddhists were too stupid to get a education You can take a donkey to the water but you can’t make it drink if it doesn’t want to.

      • 2
        2

        Burt,
Native Sinhalayo did not prosper during colonial rule but Malabar Vellala Tamils who licked the sss of Brits prospered and became the most privileged community in Sinhale/Ceylon at the time Sinhalayo gained Independence from British.

        • 1
          0

EE, not true. That is a false racist claim.

It was the Tamil fishing caste Anglicans that prospered because they were educated by American missionaries. Vellalas were kept poor and enslaved by the British. Only very few exceptions.

      • 1
        0

You got a point there. Guess what Sinhalese had the largest number of knights outside Britain. But the Portuguese, Dutch and the British enslaved Tamils pretty bad. So this will not end well for them.

Also the Indians too (1987-90). Sinhalese loved them (except the JVP) as the IPKF took on Tamils in style.

So China will not be any different. Enter the dragon!

The real impact of this Port city Bill is that the country, democracy and people are locked up within Rajapaksa family kingdom. WE all knew that the Hambantota projects by China was a failure to the country and even though there was a change in the Government they couldn’t run the government or settle the debt trap from China. Rajapaksas took back the power and they are running the government according to the orders from China. The fact is now even the Buddhist Priests or Buddhist Sinhala can’t stop or talk against China or Rajapaksas. It is a live or die situation for all.

Ajith, so the Port City is bad for minorities? That’s what I hear from you.

In that case it must be good for Sri Lanka.

I too thought it was very bad for SL until I looked at how almost all Tamil and most Muslim MPs voted on the bill. They all voted against it which means it must be good for SL.

A rule of thumb that always holds true. If SL’s minorities genuinely do not like something, it is certainly good for SL.

Port City is an example of rapid accelerated development. China is known to build infrastructure extremely quickly due to lack of red tape. For example, China built a 1500-room hospital in 5 days in January 2021. Compare with India, where people are using their cars as hospital beds. After decades of Tiger terrorism which prevented development, Sri Lanka should follow the Chinese model.

Aiyo Moda Eagle alias HLD is still around, someone said Covid has taken its toll. By the way the moron has become relatively quiet and he realises probably his nanny supplying begging country is sinking faster than expected and the new colonial master is already there and Blind Eagle’s grand children will be nannies, cleaners, gardeners, drivers at Chinaman household. This moron dont realise that cheenan can be very cruel to their workers. While his singala leaders will enjoy life under cheenan with plenty of perks and will change their names too like how they became Silva, Fernando, Perera and Almeidas. Betrayal by sinhalas are historical so it is in their genes. Yellow robed crooks will wear yellow silk robes and expensive cars while chinese chicks will be servicing their excessive carnal desires. Good by lion and good bye Sri Lanka and good bye sinhala buddhism.
