An Open Letter To …( A Mover And Shaker In The “New Dispensation”)

By Emil van der Poorten

Dear ….:

Rather than simply sending this to you as a personal e-mail, I have chosen to have it published so that a wider readership than just you and I are privy to my thoughts which I am certain will resonate with all those seeking the dawn of a time of justice and honour in our homeland.

I hope also that it will be read by those who might share your beliefs and approach to politics in this country and might also be in a position to influence its governance in no matter how small a measure.

The Presidential Election is over and Mahinda Rajapaksa has been defeated and Maithripala Sirisena elected with a clear mandate to clean up the Augean Stable that passes for “governance” in Sri Lanka.

That election, a true historical watershed in Sri Lankan history, must not be permitted to dissolve into some wishy-washy imitation of ersatz democracy.

You are close to the “movers and shakers,” at least in the United National Party, particularly because of your relationship to Ranil Wickremasinge, one of the primary king-makers in the recent effort to restore democracy in this country and now the new Prime Minister with the promise of significant executive power.

This will constitute a public appeal to you.

Please do not dilute what is an essential primary step in the effort to return this land to civilization and civility once again.

MR cutoutThe investigation and prosecution of those responsible for the blatant criminality that has victimized the people of this country for too many years and from which they have had no escape must commence immediately. For reasons best known to you, you have been insulated from, at least, the worst of this injustice and violence. I hope that, in a spirit of misguided gratitude you do not, IN ANY WAY, contribute to ANY EFFORT to dilute the quest for justice in Sri Lanka in the days to come but, rather, that you will place yourself in the vanguard of those who march in solidarity with the people of this country in their quest for the restoration of democracy and democratic values.

This is serious business as so many of us can vouch for, particularly those of us who did not then and do not now seek to advance our own fortunes by a display of loyalty to politicians, corrupt or otherwise.

I do not seek to pre-judge your conduct. However, I have always believed that prevention is better than cure and am making this appeal to you and, through you, to those others in the United National Party in particular and the erstwhile opposition parties in general who have consistently accepted favours of one sort or another from Mahinda Rajapaksa: please DO NOT stand in the way of justice prevailing either in a misguided pursuit of some sort of Ahimsa, in gratitude for favours granted or in order to buy “insurance” if or when Mahinda Rajapaksa or those of similar persuasion return to power.

I am not in a minority of one in promising you that, should you fail to fulfill your duty by this country and all that is decent, fair and just, that you will be measured with the same yardstick as those who’ve raped and pillaged our homeland for far too long.

The Komisan Kakka’s are leaving the country one by one. Yesterday Basil Rajapaksa and his wife departed for the US through the Katunayaka Airport VIP lounge. How come VIP lounge? What does Maithripala propose – wait and wait till all the crooks and thieves depart? With our money?

Sri Lanka’s new president welcomes dissidents home

      http://news.yahoo.com/sri-lankas-president-gets-down-mending-ties-053805749.html

So, colombo telegrapg, lankaenews, etc. etc. will not be blocked.

      Good

Can we write the , Print, Publish and distribute the Common Sense Phamplet Sri Lanka, without being plucked by GoTa’s White Van?

      Can we put up posters?

What about cutouts? Will the state pay for it? Free lunch? Free Bus transport?

      Common Sense (pamphlet)

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Sense_%28pamphlet%29

Common Sense[1] is a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine in 1775–76 that inspired people in the Thirteen Colonies to declare and fight for independence from Great Britain in the summer of 1776. The pamphlet explained the advantages of and the need for immediate independence in clear, simple language. It was published anonymously on January 10, 1776, at the beginning of the American Revolution and became an immediate sensation. It was sold and distributed widely and read aloud at taverns and meeting places. Washington had it read to all his troops, which at the time had surrounded the British army in Boston. In proportion to the population of the colonies at that time (2.5 million), it had the largest sale and circulation of any book published in American history.[2]

Common Sense presented the American colonists with an argument for freedom from British rule at a time when the question of whether or not to seek independence was the central issue of the day. Paine wrote and reasoned in a style that common people understood. Forgoing the philosophical and Latin references used by Enlightenment era writers, he structured Common Sense as if it were a sermon, and relied on Biblical references to make his case to the people.[3] He connected independence with common dissenting Protestant beliefs as a means to present a distinctly American political identity.[4] Historian Gordon S. Wood described Common Sense as “the most incendiary and popular pamphlet of the entire revolutionary era”.[5]

“The Presidential Election is over and Mahinda Rajapaksa has been defeated and Maithripala Sirisena elected with a clear mandate…”

      Dear CT reader,

Please don’t any notice of stupid diatribes of my old darling ‘cos he never had a good enough education to anlyse the election result and see the truth. He fails to see that the post-Rajapakse map of Sri Lanka is strikingly similar to the LTTE map prepared by Robert O. Blake.

His arithmetic is too poor to work out that less than 500000 votes in a voter population of 15 million is hardly a ‘”clear mandate”.

[Edited out] will keep on vomiting his bile on the CT website until it all disintegrates for Ranil and his American masters by 20 Jan.

I agree. He does not see that the minorities have voted for the president and that as a result now Thamileelam is no more in an electoral sense.

For this we must also thank the BBS. The BBS were paid by Norway to ensure that the Muslims and Christians voted for Maithree.

Mr Poorten will be a bit upset, when he reads the CT this morning while having his Soya Latte without sugar in Scarborough ….

“20 SLFP MPs join Sira”. says CT

And more to come, despite the Sira already having enough old mates with him.

This is good to give Sira some clout in Parliament, which he desperately needs to keep the UNP rouges … Sorry I mean UNP MPs in check…

Our inhabitants , I mean 5,8 Million and their extended families who haven’t reached the legal age to exercise their universal franchise yet, are worried about how their Sinhala Buddhist heritage will be modified by the UK, Canada,EU and the LTTE Diaspora, with the help of the Jathika Hela Uramaya Boss and his Spiritual Leader, Ven Rathna.

      Sumaney:
Don’t like sissy lattes. Only drink coffee grown, roasted and brewed on “the old plantation.” Haven’t you heard of “Kopi kaaley?”
Seems like your stipend continues. Nice of your handlers but then they have lots of Chinese commissions to dip into still, I expect. Once you emerge from under your rock in Australia and have the b…s to return to Sri Lanka and get in touch, dropping your disguise, maybe we can administer some long-overdue corporal punishment from the earlier-mentioned “kopi-kaaley.” However, I doubt even that will civilise the likes of you, leave alone leave you with the ability to write something comprehensible in English.

Nice riposte, Emil. Poor Sumane and his motley crew of apologists will soon disintegrate into oblivion once those abuses of the regime are exposed for all to see. He will be left with his racist views of “Vellalas, Anglicans, etc, etc” to stew in the cesspit he calls a brain.

Best is to ignore his bovine excrement!

        Mr Poorten,

The two Sissies whom you know in Colombo, can do a lot of damage ,with or without the moving & shaking , Johnny Walker Aunt.

Our great majority of the Sinhala Buddhist inhabitant population kept them away for 10 years.

Now that Sira has put them in charge, I fear the welfare and well being of this great majority..

Colombo Elite in contrast, are over the moon and even insult the ex President calling him Bulath Hapaya.

Even a few of my so called mates have joined them, despite my assumption that they were ” smart”.

And they even had ,h free Kiribath and Halal Beef curry in Dansalas run by SLMC Muslims .to celebrate the “Victory”.

And my ” smart ” Elite mates think that the UNP Ranil won.

Anyway Sira now has a majority with the 20 odd latest SLFP defectors, although they are not the sharpest tools in the shed.

Wonder whether our Elite know Sira too looks like a Bulath Hapaya?.

Or do they still think Ranil is the President?.

At least you and I got one thing in common.

I love my freshly ground & brewed Short Blacks with Brown sugar.

I have never seen any dudes on Marine Drive, who look like you,

Otherwise I would have introduced myself and offered you a Short Black too in my Apartment.

Well said Emil. There is no shortge of sycophants, the likes of Sumanasekera, who were happy with the crumbs thrown to them from all those Chinese Commissions. His loyalty is like that of the dog Benji, who sat on his master’s grave for 14 years. Sumanasekera too cannot accept that his master is dead and gone.

Punish those responsible, and free the innocent. The people want that. Let Democracy and Law and Order Prevail. Include the conspirators as well.

Do you think we can find 100 or so, capable, professional and honest Sri Lankans who can unravel the mess and criminality left by the Rajapakses in the Ministries and govt departments?

In the last 10 years, everyone, I MEAN EVERYONE became a pandang karaya because it was the method of survival. Others went a step or two beyond and participated in, if not facilitated the stealing and bribery. It is not easy because everyone wants something for nothing.

Even my retired mother thinks she is entitled to a pay raise!!!

Lest anyone overlooks this: This is a Sirisena administration and not a Ranil administration. So don’t accuse Ranil of doing anything because he has to run it by My3.

Ranil’s method of gentleman politics would never work with this barbaric MR. In fact he will bounce back and destroy the momentum soon. Already RW, MS and Mangala are way too late to contain MR.
Don’t appoint any MR thugs to responsible positions.
    Make moves swiftly and precisely.
Secure all state documents and evidences fast.
Send a loud and clear message who is in-charge.
    Have confidence in peoples power.
Move previous movers and shakers fast and prosecute wrong doers.
You got the People, The West and IC, India and Bhikkus to back you, so why worry? Do what you promise in campaign time.

      Sam Samare:
He is one of the reasons that I have always desisted from heaping praise on old Trinitians when they do something useful because, it seems that, for every old Trinitian doing something decent there is at least another who is a disgrace to The Best School of All; or ANY school for that matter!

None of the trinity products provide any proof that it is the best school.

It provided thrid grade education to ill-bred children of land thieves and other radala British ass lickers.

        That is all.

I feel that the writer’s advise should be heeded by any righteous leadership team, as whatever the political agenda, justice must be seen to be served and injustices of the past remedied.

    Hi Emil,

Sending a huge congratulations from Australia to Sri Lanka for ousting the old regime, and I hope that the new government listens to your message. Sri Lanka is a beautiful, wonderful country, part of my daughter’s heritage, and close to my heart. I wish all Sri Lankans a free and prosperous future.
