As Sirisena Becomes Savior Of Army Intelligence Officers, Sandya Ekneligoda Demands For Justice

In the backdrop of President Maithripala Sirisena defending Army Intelligence Officers who have been arrested on charges of abducting people, Sandya Ekneligoda, Wife of Prageeth Ekneligoda, has demanded for justice, accusing the government of being partial and only granting justice to Anoma Fonseka and Hirunika Premachandra while ignoring her.

Sandya Ekneligoda

Sandya Ekneligoda

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, she said that during the Presidential campaign pictures of Fonseka, Premachandra and hers were used as part of the presidential campaign to highlight their plight and promising justice. “But, justice has only been given to two of these ladies, where is my justice,” she asked.

Speaking at an event on Wednesday at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Sirisena accused authorities of holding military intelligence officers in remand custody for over 10 months without charging them. He made this statement in reference to the case of Prageeth Eknaligoda. “Holding these military intelligence officers who have been implicated in the abduction and the disappearance of Eknaligoda amounts to a violation of their human rights,” Sirisena said in defence of the suspects.

Prageeth Ekneligoda went missing in January 2010 under mysterious circumstances. The CID has ruled out his links to the LTTE.

“Holding these military intelligence officers who have been implicated in the abduction and the disappearance of Eknaligoda amounts to a violation of their human rights,” Sirisena said in defence of the suspects.

By deduction then, the disappeared and their loved ones have NO human rights, and no rights to justice.

This is the reality of justice in our present Miracle of Asia.

Absolutely! These were my thoughts as well.

It may be that it would be political suicide to UNNECESSARILY insult the armed forces, but we cannot extend understanding to the point where it amounts to impunity.

Add to that the ethnic aspect, and Maithirpala has to recognise that he is at a cross-roads. He doesn’t have to forget paternal love, but he has to allow Daham to now account for his actions. If that is done, Sirisena may even emerge stronger out of this ordeal.

Only the politically connected in Sri Lanka get justice! Sandya is a poor woman without political connections so NO justice for her.

Sri Lanka is heading to a massive CLASS and ETHNIC WAR as poverty and inequality rise while Sira-Ranil-Jarapalanaya rots with corruption and loads VAT taxes onto poor people to pay for the corruption of Jarapassa- Sira – Mahendran and their corrupt families and cronies..

Meanwhile Jarapassa is stirring up ethnic conflict with Hate Speech against Muslims and Tamils to DIVIDE, DISTRACT the masses and once again capture power.

      Hirunika was served with justice.

But Ms Ekanaligoda and untold other victims stay without a hope yet.

When the justice will be served to these families ?

I really dont know why the president vehemently stood against for those alleged men to have been called by FCID ?

Did not he utter that we are subject to the law and order equally ?

If any men that serve and are serving ot the forces are wrong doers, why not they are called for investigations ? Why should we hold them gods, while allowing them to promote crimes ?

As a man who already had almost 6-7 decades in this life, you should have some sorta of knowledge about how we go forward, just few issues could go wrong, them too being no perfectionists, but can that be at all comparable with the huge crime mountains led by Musalaya Rajapakshe ?

Please have your HEAD checked through EEG could help you further man.. Uk WHERE YOU STAY will help you guys turning healthy men at least for the rest of few years before you: Good luck

Please be open and answer the challenge here, why not the day light robery of CBC is also investigated by FCID ?

You suck in choosing a screen name and the subjects being discussed.

‘holding military intelligence officers in remand custody for over 10 months without charging them’

A Very Fair point. CONSIDERING THE VERY TNA and Northern CM BBS Wiggy said the same words when Known LTTE CADERS ARE AND WERE HELD FOR LONG PERIODS WITHOUT CHARGE.

Law and Rights must apply TO ALL equally

Either Charge them or Release them. As the TNA clique would say

Yes. There should be justice, even to the accused. If they are holding, just bring the charges. Anyway who was behind? The Intelligence officer? Gotabaya? Mahinda oe some other.

The victims need justice. The accused need a fair trial, and those behind must be exposed.

Govt may have handnled it wrong.

Otherwise, Traitors to the country should have been shot and they might have done something like that.

Even at present, dumb politicians are handling it wrong.

Very disappointed, Mr. President! You are stations right here in this country and you talk like you just landed here after a long domicile out space! This obviously demonstrates your ineffective and poor leaderahip which is no match to that of MR. Now am no supporter of MR, at least not since he dug his own grave but you are playing very cheap and lackluster politics here. Get your act together because we who voted for you are beginning to loose it; on you, the lot and the current state of affairs. If you fail someone else will come from the dark like you did!

President Maithripala Sirisena defending Army Intelligence Officers is wrong as specially when they have been involved in crimes against the nation and its people!! They should be accountable more than any regular citizen because they are part of the mechanism that keeps the law being applied equally for all. No way can you protect or justify criminal acts by the military or state intelligence units…

We do not want our nation to fall into the hands of criminals once again…

Hope the international community will play a key role in cleaning up this rotten system and help cultivate a well educated capable leadership to take our nation out of all the problems brought about as a result of criminal infiltration of our nation.

Yes, that was an unnecessary statement from the President of this country. What was he trying to imply? What about all the hard work done by the Bribery Commission and FCID?

Mr. President, you should act like a statesman and not get involved in the crime prevention work of the officers appointed for those tasks. If the Army Intelligence officers suspected of the Ekneligoda crime is kept behind bars for over ten months, then that is due to an order of the courts. You should not comment on that, since you are heading a Government truly based on “Good Governance”

This utterance of the President is a huge mistake and it will be used by his opponents to the hilt.

pLEASE give him some more time, he is also human being.

Cant you get the enormous pressure on him from both sides. I believe, consensual politics for a nation of our kind that filled with predominantly culprits is rather very difficult to practise.

I wonder how he at all ran these two years.

Most of among the teachers, Doctors, Engineers, whoever they are they dont have any good thoughts towards consnesual politics. Alone thse ultra nationalist men like UDAYA GONTHADIYA and BADULA GUNAWARDHANANE AND all have no brains but to lick the balls fo Rajaakshe who looted the state to no-go levels. Can you imagine ?
This is the ground reality of this country.
Alone within SLFP how many of them still support Rajakashe for some stupid reasons.
How many of follow the humble man Mr Sirisena who is just second to Mr Wijetunga in terms of not greedy in power actually. Had Mr SIRISENA been away from his sacrifices, this country would ahve been under Trade embargo… by now… or not ? Please see it back … therefore, whatever he adds some moment, I have a greater respect to Mr SIRISENA than to any other politicians of the day.

        Kalu Nangi:

What about all the hard work done by the Bribery Commission and FCID?

Bribary commission and FCID are always political. FCID fulfills Ranil’s agenda.

Namal Rajapakse Accuses, some officers in FCID itself are former bandits.

some officers can every be not okay, but that does not mean FCID is faulted.

Seems Sunil has swollen “international” pill deep into his stomach. First of all, how about a change of your very much local name ‘Sunil” into an international name like “Sunhill” or Sunny” or “Sunol”? :p

If anyone goes through some cables that have been revealed, couple of years back, by Jullian Asange would understand the so called “International” community’s actions. As reveled recently, Tony Blair’s ugly role in Iraq war is a another case in point.

The current Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Iran, Syria are few examples for decent diplomacy of “international” community.

What Presi has said was unnecessary lock ups of military personal is unfair. And, if any wrong done, prove it.

Just because you haters are against hell bent to SL military or Rajapakshes, you cant expect to be decision makers of judicial matters.

Man, get a life. Be local before going to be a cardboard “international” which actually meaning nothing.

What a let down by the person, whom we all looked up, to deliver justice.

Shame on you MY3, I do not intend to equate you with MARA, but the latest statements make me to think exactly that.

What has happened to you after coming back from Bangkok. Have you got the taste of this worldly pleasure and blinded you from the solemn pledge you gave us, the voters.

My only warning to you is, protecting the murderers and plunderers, whoever it may be, GORA,MARA or DAHAM for that matter is not a option for you. You are supposed to act independent and definitely this is not the way you ago about, if you feel there is political agenda in the prosecutions.

By making public proclamations, you are threatening the Officers and giving tacit protection to murderers. These should be discussed in a private forum with all stake holders and arrived at a decision. You don’t act like a bull in a China Shop or a Gamarala from Polonnaruwa. Remind yourself everyday in front of the mirror that You are the President of Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka and act like one.

Let the murderers pay the price for their crimes, be it MARA/GORA, Service Commanders or whoever it may be. That was the promise you gave us when pleading for our votes, do not turn out to be another hypocrite. MARA is more than enough for our thrice blessed Serendipity.

I will be calling you Sirisena from now on; your gallery speech has stained the integrity and credibility of the FCID and the CID and this kind of cheap Sri Lankan amathithuma gimmick leaves them with a rotten morale!! You obvious do not realize that but that is not an excuse! With the kind of budget you have upon yourself for the office of Presidency you ought to have credible, capable and brilliant advisers of through breeding! It is evident the people’s around you have not or are not knocking sense in you and your speeches are evidently unprofessional and now even unsuited to the gamey baiyya!!

We voted for you and this positive change. Clearly much has been established so far but far more needs to be established to sustain all this or to even call any of it worth the change! The only thing credible that has happened so far is the day light robbery of giving luxury vehicle to your bloody group of “ministers”!

Looks like you will have imminent defeat in the local government elections… but don’t blame us; it is your doing! Your irresponsibility in the recent speech is alarming!! And what is it with your godey son ?? Put the bugger to work in a timber mill or something in Polonnaruwa with a ban on Colombo travel! He brought is shame in the Royal-Thomian match!

BTW Rajapakse boys weigh much heavier on the class side; true Namal plays a substandard role but hey, like father like son ney!

“Holding these military intelligence officers who have been implicated in the abduction and the disappearance of Eknaligoda amounts to a violation of their human rights,” Sirisena said in defence of the suspects.”

What a travesty, if the Police and attorney general department are unable to find direct or circumstantial evidences to prove these men have committed a crime, the rule of law should be applicable to them too. What is wrong with it. Either attorney general department or Police has not done a good job. Ten months too long

Someone has a juicy file on the Sirisena Brat ?

Must have said, we will post it on youtube if you don’t get the Govt off our backs.

A quid pro quo is on tap.

Btw, Sirisena unconsciously agree with Vigneswaran; if there is no evidence let them go home. Some Tamil prisoners are in jail for over 10 years with no case brought before the courts. Give it to Rajapaksa, he had come up with a way to send them home.

  • 1

People who are against giving bails to the Army intelligence officials did not raise any objection when the Government released LTTE militants, who were under the custody of the Police. The same lot argued that those LTTE militants should be either bailed out or released if the Attorney Department do not file cases against them. The same situation is here for the Army officers who are now languishing in jails over 10 months without any solid evidence against them. But Why there is such a double standard? I think these people think that human rights are applicable only to Tamils and other minority groups. If we need reconciliation, treat Sinhalese also equally. Nobody can achieve reconciliation by harassing Sinhalese to appease Tamils and the so called international community. Such a process is not reconciliation but annihilation and subjugation of Sinhalese forcefully to take the revenge of destroying the LTTE terrorists.

The president or any other official cannot pick and choose among the accused who to detain and who to bail out. From what the president says it implies that the military personnel can kidnap people as they like and do anything including torture and extra judicial execution.

What about the alleged killers of Lasantha Wickrematunge and others belonged to the majority ethnic community? They were murdered just because they wrote about the excesses committed by Rajapakse brothers.

It is understandable that in Sri Lanka members of ethnic minorities have no human rights and hence can be abducted, murdered and disposed of their bodies. The military is allowed to run businesses including hotels and grab lands and houses owned by ethnic community and do whatever. But extending the military’s wing to murder Sinhalese and still enjoy freedom is crossing the line of Sinhala-Buddhist justice and venturing into Rajapakse’s territory of jungle law. This sort of behaviour may earn the friendship of JO.

Time has for My3 to go and get lost. We have now seen how truth he was when he pledged justice to all and to put all criminals to trial. All he wanted to come power by a dirty trick of back stabbing his boss after having enjoyed all the privileges and the loot of Rajapakse and when he cannot suck any more benefit from him and on the last day left him and declared he had become ‘disillusioned’ on Rajapakse’s governance and he was a cruel man!

Time had told what he was really for and it is now proved he wanted to save the criminals whom he promised to put to trial. All these are simply a game to cheat the people and the country and only to save the crooks as they all are part of the same team!

Now we have to wait till the next Presidential elections at least to hope to get justice. We people should hereafter vote for the presidential candidate who contests with a valid resignation letter who if not delivered he would resign in two years.
