In the backdrop of President Maithripala Sirisena defending Army Intelligence Officers who have been arrested on charges of abducting people, Sandya Ekneligoda, Wife of Prageeth Ekneligoda, has demanded for justice, accusing the government of being partial and only granting justice to Anoma Fonseka and Hirunika Premachandra while ignoring her.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, she said that during the Presidential campaign pictures of Fonseka, Premachandra and hers were used as part of the presidential campaign to highlight their plight and promising justice. “But, justice has only been given to two of these ladies, where is my justice,” she asked.
Speaking at an event on Wednesday at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Sirisena accused authorities of holding military intelligence officers in remand custody for over 10 months without charging them. He made this statement in reference to the case of Prageeth Eknaligoda. “Holding these military intelligence officers who have been implicated in the abduction and the disappearance of Eknaligoda amounts to a violation of their human rights,” Sirisena said in defence of the suspects.
Prageeth Ekneligoda went missing in January 2010 under mysterious circumstances. The CID has ruled out his links to the LTTE.

It may be that it would be political suicide to UNNECESSARILY insult the armed forces, but we cannot extend understanding to the point where it amounts to impunity.
Add to that the ethnic aspect, and Maithirpala has to recognise that he is at a cross-roads. He doesn’t have to forget paternal love, but he has to allow Daham to now account for his actions. If that is done, Sirisena may even emerge stronger out of this ordeal.

People who are against giving bails to the Army intelligence officials did not raise any objection when the Government released LTTE militants, who were under the custody of the Police. The same lot argued that those LTTE militants should be either bailed out or released if the Attorney Department do not file cases against them. The same situation is here for the Army officers who are now languishing in jails over 10 months without any solid evidence against them. But Why there is such a double standard? I think these people think that human rights are applicable only to Tamils and other minority groups. If we need reconciliation, treat Sinhalese also equally. Nobody can achieve reconciliation by harassing Sinhalese to appease Tamils and the so called international community. Such a process is not reconciliation but annihilation and subjugation of Sinhalese forcefully to take the revenge of destroying the LTTE terrorists.

The president or any other official cannot pick and choose among the accused who to detain and who to bail out. From what the president says it implies that the military personnel can kidnap people as they like and do anything including torture and extra judicial execution.
What about the alleged killers of Lasantha Wickrematunge and others belonged to the majority ethnic community? They were murdered just because they wrote about the excesses committed by Rajapakse brothers.
It is understandable that in Sri Lanka members of ethnic minorities have no human rights and hence can be abducted, murdered and disposed of their bodies. The military is allowed to run businesses including hotels and grab lands and houses owned by ethnic community and do whatever. But extending the military’s wing to murder Sinhalese and still enjoy freedom is crossing the line of Sinhala-Buddhist justice and venturing into Rajapakse’s territory of jungle law. This sort of behaviour may earn the friendship of JO.

Time has for My3 to go and get lost. We have now seen how truth he was when he pledged justice to all and to put all criminals to trial. All he wanted to come power by a dirty trick of back stabbing his boss after having enjoyed all the privileges and the loot of Rajapakse and when he cannot suck any more benefit from him and on the last day left him and declared he had become ‘disillusioned’ on Rajapakse’s governance and he was a cruel man!
Time had told what he was really for and it is now proved he wanted to save the criminals whom he promised to put to trial. All these are simply a game to cheat the people and the country and only to save the crooks as they all are part of the same team!
