Sabaragamuwa University undergraduate Shanthikumar Sudharshan who fell victim to a targeted attacks against students of Tamil ethnicity within the university earlier this week, has been arrested by the Terrorist Investigation Department (TID) this morning.
The Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) states the student – a resident of Kilinochchi, who was hospitalized following the attack had been held in Police detention following his treatments and thereafter had been arrested by the TID for further interrogations today. It is interesting to note, the arrest is made just days after the University Vice-Chancellor who commented on the incident claiming he believes the attacks is a product of the group of Tamil students themselves in order to enter universities closer to their homes – a claim that was supported by Higher Education Minister S. B. Dissanayake as well who stated at a media breifing last week that the student inflicted the cuts on himself.
Sudharshan had been attacked on Sunday (3) by a group of five masked men at the hostel premises while the Defence Ministry managed university security service – Rakna Lanka officials had been on duty. The student was found hours after the attack by his colleagues, gagged and lying unconscious with cut wounds all over his body. The same day, notices had been put up all over the hostel order every student of Tamil ethnicity to vacate the hostel premises and the university within the next ten days. The notice read that anyone who failed to obey the order would be shot to death and the female students to disobey would be raped.

The posters were not written by university students. If Southern Sinhala students wrote something in Tamil, it can be only in learned Tamils. The words and the spelling used there were not that Chenthamil category. So it was not written by somebody who learned Tamil. When Sinhala Students wanted to have fight with Tamils students they have not been writing in Tamils in the previous communal trouble times. There is no need, in the south, to write anything to anybody in Tamil. It has not been the custom. The quality and Kodunththamil language used in the posters are exactly matching the language used in the North during protests held against Uthayan, Chief Minister CV, David Cameron and the rest. This is something the Royal Defense ministry wrote. MoD Gangs has been writing this language in the North to impress Tamils Diaspora that the Northerners are protesting on many things. The Natural Modayas, now additionally confused, brought the same posters to south too. These Tamils students, after many nights hard work entered to the University, has become additional Jeyakumaris. Their parents who sent them to south to graduate and come back going to receive invalids, with responsibility of taking the care of newly handicapped children until they live on the earth.

In 2000, me and my 45 friends were arrested from University of Moratuwa by Moratuwa police. We were preparing for our final year exams. At midnight a group of Sinhala students arrived to our study hall with sticks and rocks shouting in Sinahala, “demelu innavatha?”. They dragged me and other Tamils who were studying that night to the front of the University building. There were a truck and a jeep waiting for us. They bundled us in these vehicles and tokk us to Moratuwa police. They kept us for three days. All came to the police station that night kicked and bashed us. Shouting at us in Sinhala and called us “umbala okkoma kotti”. “Umbala kowruth berenda ba appeng”. They brought down Nilamdeen and Jeayaratnam for questioning us. They treated us like dogs. After three days they released the final year students. Rest of them were released months after. That day I realized that Srilanka is not for me. It is the country for Sinhala Buddhist racial monsters.
