Just a day after the JHU announced of their decision to not support President Rajapaksa at the upcoming Presidential polls, attempts had been made to attack the temple in which Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) monk, venerable Athuraliye Rathana thera was residing in just a short while ago by supporters of a UPFA local government politician.
According to sources, the Kotte Mayor had riled up his supporters and had announced that he is going to reclaim the temple land located in Gothami road in Borella and distribute it among the villagers in retaliation to the decision made by JHU and Rathana thera to withdraw their support to the President Rajapaksa at the upcoming Presidential polls.
About 100 men armed with poles and stones had been gathering at various points along the Gothami road in order to launch an attack on the temple. However, some villagers had informed the temple authorities regarding the preparations and the Police had been deployed promptly in order to provide protection to the temple and Rathana thera.
“Groups of men had been gathering along the road, ready to attack the temple but the Police and media arrived at the temple on time. The situation has been brought under control now Police protection has been given to the temple,” Rathana thera said.
