Ban The BBS – An Online Petition Launched

An online petition campaign urging “ban the BBS” is launched today. The petitioners say; The Bodu Bala Sena has long been suppressing freedom and multiculturalism in Sri Lanka. Their actions, speeches and brutal approaches to other races and creeds in the island are not only undemocratic, but contain elements of Nazism. Under the guise of protecting Buddhism they are refusing others the right to practice and to live within the bounds of non-Buddhist life. Muslim shops are attacked, Halal packaging has been discontinued, Christian churches are attacked, and the Eucharist desecrated. Now the BBS wants to ban women from wearing the Niqab and the Burqa. This is not Buddhist, it is not decent, it is not human. Please sign this petition in solidarity with those who support basic dignity and the freedom to live within one’s chosen religious and cultural beliefs.

We are asking God Farther to ban Mafia. As long as Rajapakshas are there in the power, all these Balukayawal will also be there. Be ready to send Rajapakshas to meet Ghadafi, then there will not be any Balukayawal in Sri Lanka.

I do not agree with most of the things BBS has to say nor I promote any of it.. But that been said i would like to educate this ‘marwan” person.. Forget this morden constitutions, According to the ‘hela siritha’ which is the old folk law of our great kings of Sri Lanka,it state that, the kingdom belong to the monarch, the temple and Buddhists of this nation’.. So no you do not have a right to say any thing, since the day your family got converted to another religion, sorry!!
When we visit Middle East we hav to abibe by their rule, so why can’t you do the same?? In Muslim countries you can get convicted for idle worship.. We let u pray in your mosques, give you guys leav-way in schools and work places on Friday to attend prayers, let you have Muslim school, sports clubs and societies.. But that’s where we should draw the line.. Covering up a woman? Why so all of our men can be pervats like the fucking Arabic scums who blame women for getting a itch down under.. Covering up a woman’s beauty should be the real sin but your eyes don’t open that wide I guess..

Although I respect your views, have not heard of ‘hela siritha’ before, and it is some ‘old folk law’ according to your own words. What we do know is Muslims have been living in this country for more than a thousand years, and are an integral part of country’s ethnicity character, and you cannot take that fact away, by trying to rewrite history. The closeness, friendship and trust between both communities has bonded this relationship which has managed to survive for such a long period of time, and we don’t need the BBS/SR/RB/JHU campaigners to spoil this relationship and destroy the co-existence. You can (The Buddhists of this country) can keep this country as a Buddhist nation, and Muslims don’t have any qualms about that. But we Muslims constitute nearly 10% of the entire population, and our minority rights need to be preserved. This is all we are asking. Freedom in what we eat, dress, religious practices, social gatherings etc. If the majority Buddhist community cannot provide that basic security and accommodation to all the minority communities, to live alongside in peace and goodwill, then they are not worthy of their Buddhist values of the 4 Noble precepts, but have inherited a bunch of hooligans.

Your reference to Middle East policies does not justify that we should reciprocate in the same way. There are so many mono-culutural and multi-cultural countries in the world today and indeed they are all very prosperous. It is only when internal squabbling and communal fighting breaks out that the countries get pushed back in time and progress is stymied.

As for covering up our Muslim women is our problem, why do you worry about it? If they are security risk and anyone acts suspicious, get policewomen to check them, show their face and check their identity. If they wear face cover, all you have to do is leave them alone and totally ignore them. This is what I said earlier, let us 10% minority conduct our affairs the way our religion has instructed us,and not try to interfere in how we live our lives. We can take care of ourselves. We don;t need country, you can keep it. We don’t need ruling power, you can keep it. We don’t need separate state, you can have it all. Don’t feel threatened. We don’t have weapons, no suicide squads and don’t push us to that level.

Well, true prince you will have to go back to the dark ages if you want to practice what you preach.

True the temple belongs to the priests. No one disagrees. We will also not ask you what the laity does with their priests. That’s up to you.

We are concerned when YOU tell ME what I should do and not do. Never mind religion.

About praying and schools, and all the other things, you arguments border on the utterly ridiculous. It would be good if you read up on your history and politics.

We minorities DON’T want religious apartheid practiced in out country. Who set up the law to have Tamil Medium Muslim Schools, Tamil Medium Hindu Schools, Sinhala Medium Buddhist Schools while abolishing English education? All this was done in a rush a patriotic fervour!

Citizens have rights. Migrant workers can’t expect those rights. That’s how migrant labour is treated and is a visa condition. Try asking for directions in Sinhala because you think that every country must think like you do, say in New York!

You will have your rights protected! Talk sense instead of talking like Kellille

But the matter of the point here is, BBS is still a ultimate disrespect to lord Buddha and his teachings so even tho I feel that this country should be dictated according to our heritage and our religion I still say BBS should be dismantle(wont hold ma breath tho).. This is why I always think that democracy do not suit a country like ours.. Need to bring back the long forgotten blood lines.. #giveusourbirthrightback-rajapaksha-u-southerncunt##

BBS Should not be banned in Sri Lanka. They should be active. That is the end of the buddhism in Sri Lanka. They are agents who work for money……They have been hired to do the job…. Let them alive and active……
wait and see what will happen in future…………The Sri Lanka economy is going to hell….the government is failure. All uneducated and racist bullshits are in top positions in the state departments….everything is failure.
20% children are malnutrition in Sri Lanka.
    Good Rata perata……..jaya wewa.

I sought refuge in Colombo Telegraph to escape religious fanatics and their verbosity.

It appears that that the comment section is dominated by fanatics and their verbosity.

Could you organise a petition to ban all religions practiced in this island and from the face of this world.

      Native Veddah,

The mythical bird ‘ Annam’ in Tamil literature had the ability to separate the miilk from the water mixed with it, while drinking. In all spheres of life today we have to select what has merit and disregard the rest. What is good for one may also be unpalatable for the others. This is a democratic option that has opened up with increased literacy and dwindling education.

The BBS is the ultimate insult to Buddhism, joined by two shameless organizations Ravana Balaya and Sihala Ravaya. Even the petition above is acess denied to some. Must be the work of Dilanthe Withanage who is a computer expert with the help of the autocratic, fundamentalist, brutal Secretary in the key Ministry. They are the most UNBUDDHISTIC organizations to permeate this earth

It should be banned forever and its members made persona non grata in all countries.

Well done .This is the first move at Home not enough , we need to ban them internationally ,ban them from entering any other country to spread hatred including Myanmar Monks.Period it will happen soon.

A strong letter of condemnation must be sent to The Sri Lanka US Embassy for allowing them into USA , and one fully condemning Germany for resurrecting Hitlers Nazism by funding their Head quarters in Galle and one to the Hypocrite Norwegians who funded the LTTE in the past for funding them now.

keep up the Noble task.. do not let a small venomous ignorant group to destroy our beautiful mother land.

God bless the people who have bravely come forward to initiate this..better late than never. Thank you.

Looks like Dilatha’s effort of launching an online petition to against Burqa and Niqabhi has backfired badly. The petition to ban BBS is spreading like wildfire. Ban against Burqa and Niqab as of now has 760 signatures whereas Ban BBS counter is running endlessly is at 2,522 as of now.

I read the petition link “ban BBS” is not accessible in SL by banned by TRA, I am not sure how true it is as I have not verified the information.

This clearly show that BBS has backing of regime. Nothing much might come out of this petition but I am sure it will send a clear signal to all those around the BBS they are a minority and the people are wiser.

Does this sinhala buddhist people know that your so called religion (not a relegion, just philosophy) came from INDIA?? Gautama budhdha was an indian. he never set up an example for his followers from the start, he left his wife and the family alone to find the truth. so there’s no doubt about his his followers. sri lanka was never a biddhist country and it will never be. this is a SOCIALIST DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY where anyone can follow any relgion they want and anyone can wear anything they want. so this online buddhists can shut the [Edited out] and go to the temple to learn more abot their philosophy. enough said.

……..BUDHISM IS NOT A WAY OF LIFE BUT AWAY OF LIFE ……..

Sidartha went to jungle leaving his wife and children…..is this a way of life ?……. He was not fit to run a family ,He coudnt look after his wife , kids……..He coudnt satisfy his wife ……..so HE WENT TO JUNGLE saying he needs to find truth…….

if Budsits follow him, then ALL BUDHIST IN LANKA GO TO JUNGLE and find the truth……Then our MOTHER LANKA WILL BE SAFE AND CLEAN AND CALM…

This is ridiculous. I totally against it. If you are against it challenge it democratically. Don’t try to find undemocratic ways to suppress it. Is there anyone who signed this petition while fighting against MR regime over the issue of suppression of democratic rights? Ajith Parakum Jayasinghe has written a good piece on this petttion in his blog: http://www.w3lanka.com/2013/07/should-bodu-bala-sena-banned.html

true. Do we ban everything that we don’t agree with? What is required is implementation of the law irrespective of race or religion and a parallel campaign to remove misconceptions and fears harboured by all communities.

The Big Boru Shouters shout not for the sake of Buddhism but to carry out a political agenda to hoodwink the Buddhists and get their votes for corrupt politicians. Ignore them and they will vanish on their own. Islam and Muslims have gone worse situations in their One Thousand Four Hundred years’ history and have grown from strength to strength overcoming all obstacles and will go on.

Ban BBS petition has gone passed 4,000 votes, whats is interesting to see is people from all races are voting. This clearly shows Boru Sena has no popular support but rather a political organization with regime backing. On the other hand ban hajib is labored to 800 mark. The comment their clearly shows the people who are voting has nothing but hatred in their mind. It also seems they are uneducated.

Why we think we want to ban BBS this is a best way of promoting Buddhism then people will forget the real life of Load Buddha and follow BBS Ven Ganasara is the real leader of Buddhism…

So my dear Buddhist brothers and sisters think positive and promote the real Buddhism what load Buddha conveyed… SO DON’T BE A RACIST BE A KIND TO OTHER COMMUNITY LIKE LOAD BUDDHA…

    Dear some Buddhist fellows,
You’ll are creating hatred among your fellow Buddhists who have no knowledge about our country’s economy. You’ll have to bear in mind that the most contributing countries to Sri Lanka for its development are Arab Countries. So imagine where our country will end up if these Arab Countries stop financial help to our motherland??? What can BBS/JHU/RAVAYA do to develop Sri Lanka by creating trouble to Muslims, Christians and Hindus??? We didn’t have peace for the past 30 years and that is more than enough.

Before you ban anyone why not ban Swarnawahini. They are are lifeline and provide oxygen to the local extremist elements, seriously.

Wow – The hatred slapped against each other on this site
as well as in Sri Lanka, leaves me astounded.
Hardline – hatfilled groups such as the BBS, JHU and Sinhala Ravaya have cropped up with alarming ease. These groups should be banned.
This lack of respect is not healthy and breeds animoisity and will lead the country astray.

Muslims please be patient. We are being provoked at every turn. The key is not lose faith. Be patient and steadfast, show the world who is the aggressor and who is the oppressed. I heard the US has decided to cut aid to SL by 20% . This is great news.

Im happy Im out of this beautiful country that has turned into a cesspool. I have remarkeable freedom to practice my faith in Canada..in the West. And who would want to live under Rajapakse rule anyways.

Without any hesitation, this type of provoking movements should be banned.

No need to ban any groups or no needs to reply any nonsense comments.
this is a holy month for Muslims. we all get together and ask Dua and pray Allah. very soon all these groups convert to Islam.
