Gotabaya Rajapaksa: Ban The Burqa And Niqab In Sri Lanka – An Online Petition Launched

Bodu Bala Sena has launched an online campaign against Burqa and Niqab. “Ban of face covering cloths”, the BBS CEO Dilanthe Withanage posted in his Facebook. He also posted the official web link of the Government of Netherlands decision to ban clothing that covers the face, which says; “The government has reaffirmed the decision to introduce a general ban on wearing clothing that covers the face in public. It believes that people need to be able to look each other in the eye and interact with recognisable faces. Open communication is vital in public places. Wearing clothing that covers the face is not appropriate in an open society like the Netherlands, where participation in social intercourse is crucial.”

Meanwhile an online petition also launched urging Secretary to the Ministry of Defence to ban the Burqa and Niqab in Sri Lanka. The petitioners says;

The Secretary of Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksha: Ban the Burqa and Niqab in Sri Lanka

We believe that the government should Ban the Burka.

It’s a threat to national security

This is still officially a buddhist country and it should not go out of its way to appease foreign ideologies. This isn’t even just a religious symbol, considering some islamic countries have bans

It is a symbol of oppression of women in foreign countries

We call on the government to Ban the Burka immediately.

    Educating those frogs in the deepest wells of Sri Lanka
    ========================================================
    To All The Silly Lankan Forgs in the deep wells who mock Muslim ladies as gony Bilas and believe only Muslim women cover their faces and also claim they are subjugated either by their male relatives or husbands , where else it is opposite they choose to wear it as their right of choice to dress what they want and there are many amazing Muslim Ladies with the veil who are well employed and also going about attending to their daily chore uninterrupted most of the times more efficient than men.

    While ,in some parts of North India the HINDU women are openly subjugated to wear the veil all the time and are confided behind walls and are practically slaves serving not only their husbands but the entire family members of the Husband .
    Nobody talks of this , after all they are not Muslims , in some parts of India Hindu terrorist are engaging in terrorism no one talks of it ,why they are not Muslims, in Ireland , south America and many more , this is the problem , in many cases sickness of the body if can not be fully cured at least it can be contained , same with the brain , but the filthy sickness of the heart known as prejudice has no cure until they are consumed by the fire they themselves fuel .

    Clement of Alexandria commends the contemporary use of face coverings. [5][6] There are also two Biblical references to the employment of covering face veils in Genesis 38.14 and Genesis 24.65, by Tamar and by Rebekah, Jacob and Abraham’s daughters-in-law respectively. These primary sources show that some women in Egypt, Arabia, Canaan and Persia veiled their faces long before Islam.

    Yes Face vaeil should not be allowed in Sri Lanka. If they want to wear this let them migrate to a Muslim Country where it is mandatory.

    Women don’t wear in Dubai, Bahrain or Oman where I have visited. Only a handful wear then why all of a sudden these mongrels should resort to this kind of idiotic subjugation?

    The burqa is not only worn as a sign of respect by the muslim women to god and it is done on a practical manner to protect them from the evil thoughts and disrespect minds of men and women alike. It is a symbol of modesty and self dignity and maturity.

    These women are more brave, usually intelligent and take their own decisions as a result of their obedience to almighty to obey and submit their will to his desires which will attain success rather than abide them to the desires of the men and marketing forces or to the materialistic worldly desires that has many women devoured into and kept them foolishly thinking they have got all the freedom here when they have actually become slaves and submit to the will of their desires and see their lives miserable. I am not talking about all women who don’t wear burquas but there are women who give themselves up to anything for money and purchasing power.

    Not to say people who don’t are not pious but if this is worn with the sense of purpose then it is the highest of the purity for women. Waering the burqua is not only a protection for themselves but to men and society in general. If these infact are safe then the nation will be successful indeed.

    My apologize if my words came across harsh but I meant to tell for people with a good sense of maturity who are exposed to things going around the world and not just sri lanka.

    @dhivy, why Muslim women cover entire body as a respect to their god? I don’t get it. After all God created them with such a beauty, and god does not want to see it? Or his soo weak a women’s beauty creates bad feelings towards that women in his mind? Its not the problem with god you idiot, but idiots who interpret the god such a way is the problem. Having look at the face of the person you talk to is the basic social requirement. Don’t bar it from the society and specially from women.
