Don’t let the Supreme Court Justice Sarath de Abrew to sit or carry out public functions as a judge, the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has today urged the Chief Justice.

According to the reports, a woman who was allegedly assaulted by Supreme Court Justice Sarath de Abrew, filed a complaint with Mount Lavinia Police on June 26. She told police that she had been assaulted with a pistol. She is receiving medical treatment at Colombo South Teaching Hospital at Kalubowila.

The anger issue is actually secondary. It is the fact that the guy has such abysmlly poor judgement is basic human values (how to treat women, how to treat other humans even if that is only a lowly maid)that I think are more crucial in kicking this coward and inhuman judge out of the courts, if not the country!

i am sure that the Lawyers Collective and the BASL must have valid reasons for making representations to the Chief Justice about the conduct of the said judge.
But as the matter is under investigation by the police, following the complaint by the woman domestic, any action contemplated following the report by the police to the Attorney General and or the CJ, is their responsibility.
Until that stage is reached it is best, that no undue pressure is exerted by any third party on the matter.
The Law does not discriminate, a judge and a commoner are equal, before the law.

After posting my comment,I saw a news item in the NDTV about the Himachal High Court in India ordering the suspension of a judge pending investigation on a complaint alleging sexual harassment by a female judge.
In Himachal it is professional a colleague, in SL it is a female domestic,
The nature of the complaints and the status of the complainants Himachal and in SL may differ, but the common factor is that they are females in a man’s world.

If Sripavan, the Chief Justice, is weak and incapable and cannot take decisions and continues to appoint this man to hear cases with other judges, it would be perceived as a insult to the people and their judicial power. At least other judges should refuse to sit with this man, a curse to the Judiciary.
And lawyers should refuse to present their cases if this man occupies the Bench in the case their matter is fixed to be heard.

Going through the letter sent by the Bar Association lies Sri Lanka’s root Problems.
ACCOUNTABILITY……. why can’t they just mention the name of the judge as it is and file a motion against at the moron at Supreme Court and ask for a suspension of duties until the police investigations are over. Attitude of the bar association letter it self has no accountability to their request to the chief justice .
Things like these are the root cause for Sri Lanka’s current predicament…. NO ONE IS ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS.

If any one wants to see this Abrew fellow, just go in front of the Wijaya House cafe in Ratmalana (Maliban Junction) along the Galle at 5.30pm. His official Merc (with the signboard Judge of the Supreme Court plate fixed to the windscreen) is parked in front of this cafe everyday evening with 3 armed Cops surrounded you can see Abrew smoking inside the vehicle with windows down. Believe me I have not seen such a disgraceful behavior from anybody in the judicial system. Often the driver or the cop has to run around from one shop to the other to bring things that Abrew wants.If Abrew does not like the what the cop brings , he will summon the shop owner to his car and demand change.
How can the CJ or the rest of the supreme court judges tolerate such bad behavior from their colleague.
Disgrace to the entire judicial system in our country.

The chief priest of a temple adjoining this judge’s residence told me some time back that this judge Abrew has come to the temple with a gun in his hand and threatened the young monks in the temple claiming that monks have obstructed his by road entrance to the garage by erecting a fence closer to the by road.The chief priest has made a police complaint in the Mt. Lavinia police but not even a statement was recorded from the young monks who were threatened by this Judge.I think this judge deserve immediate psychiatric treatment.

The Bar Association being a legal professional body should no better. It is not for them to unleash the mob rule. I can recall the days when Supreme Courts Judges were treated as semi-Gods! Justices like Weeramantri were sincerely addressed as “Hamuduruwane!” thanks to the former Sarath the rot started and present Sarath is perfecting it! Jayawewa MR!
