Basil Attempts To Poach MPs As Anti-Corruption Front Claims Rajapaksas Trying To Make A Comeback

As President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe attempted to informally bribe MPs to continuously retain their support within the Yahapalanaya Government by doling out various bonanzas in the guise of ‘allowances’, former Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa has kicked off a new mission to poach MPs from the ruling coalition.

Basil Colombo TelegraphHighly placed sources said that Rajapaksa has been holding talks with several MPs who are ‘on the fence’. “But, so far the discussions have only commenced, but it is not likely that there will be a finalization anytime soon, but the talks have begun,” sources said.

The discussions come just days since Basil Rajapaksa obtained membership of the Sri Lanka People’s Front (SLPF), led by former External Affairs minister G.L. Peiris, a loyalist of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

“The present leadership is granting various financial benefits to the MPs saying that they are underpaid to ensure that they remain within the government ranks. However, if a strong opposition is built, there can be a possibility that some MPs who still have loyalty to Mahinda Rajapaksa might consider switching sides,” a source said.

The new SLPF has also been having discussions with provincial level politicians, and several provincial politicians have already joined the new party and are likely to contest the local government elections scheduled for next year.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Anti-Corruption Front Ven. Ulapane Sumangala said this week that the Rajapaksa family was frantically attempting to make a comeback to power, as the current government continues to lose credibility as well as its popularity.

He said that as the incumbent government has failed to fulfill its promises pledged to the masses; and both Mahinda and Basil Rajapaksa were trying to make a comeback by forming the SLPF.

“The people have fallen from the frying pan to the fire,” Ven. Sumangala said, while adding that corrupt elements such as the Rajapaksa’s were trying to use the situation and reclaim power.

If people have robbed colossal sums then they could bribe their way out. Good governance government if true to their cause should promptly arrest the culprits and take back the looted money before they destabilize the country with the looted money.

      Sir,

Shouldn’t this shameless criminal be rotting away in jail by now?

Assets stolen and crimes committed against Sri Lanka are collosal.

Instead, we let this thief run around the nation in freedom to buy politicians with stolen funds.

Come next election, it will not only be politically calculating, corrupt & spineless Yahapalanya monkeys of SLFP & UNP who will pay the price. But, the peoople of this country.

      Cheers!

If the candidates lose badly they lose deposits.

Is there a way to make voters lose their deposit provided their candidate is too bad? Then before you start the next bloodless revolution that Lankawe has been doing from 1956, you may think twice. NM, Colvin, Pieter Keuneman, Vasu, Dinesh, DEW, …. I don’t know those names, but you know them! Too many or Lot of promising cooks are in the kitchen of Mother Lankawe! But, people are getting empty stomach by days..

This fool Anura was supposed to boycott the January 2015 election. He changed his mind because Ranil was sidelined and New King was promoted to CC. He thought he was firing Stalin and bringing Lenin of Lankawe to power.

No no, AKD is very theoretical.

They have not yet achieved the levels to run srilanka. Srilanka is filled with more tending to corruption and abuses.

Example 01 – Even today, Basil , His brother maharajano are praised by folks, but not the JVPers that torn their backsides to go against the corruptoin and abuses.

This country needs the kind of leaders that could better work with corrupted friendly situation.

JVPrs are so blunt… “Mahinda is a killer – killing minded, but the manner he gets on with the corruption friend majorities… are like… showing them carrots… the manner JVPrs should learn wthin next 2 decades.. then only they can be leaders to this nation.

Else, this nation should be exported and bring an another nation to be match with JVPrs.. then AKD can surely be the leader for the nation and even can work for the upliftment of the common man s situatons.

“Come next election, it will not only be politically calculating, corrupt & spineless Yahapalanya monkeys of SLFP & UNP who will pay the price. But, the peoople of this country.”

        I wouldn’t think so.

People live in hope. And come next elections they will vote for the crooks since there aren’t any alternative crooks who are convincing enough like the well-established crooks from both parties.

They believe in the saying, the known devil is better than the unknown, as Mahinda pointed out just before the elections.

People are concerned only with immediate day to day problems and suffer from selective/short amnesia.

They take what is given to them, not what is best for the people and country.

In the meantime, the crooks have access to all sorts of resources,

LTTE rearing its head, TNA wants separate state, Federalism leading to separation, Muslims links to ISIS, Western plots and conspiracy theories, Kasrunanithy and Jayalalitha are fit and ready to send an invasion army, a joint operation by Cholas and Pandyas, RW is selling the country to the USA, the minorities and UNHRC, INGOs, ….. only Mahinda can stop this, Gota is a go getter hence he is for President, paranoia, fear, …

        Ultimately racism wins.

You have echoed the sentiments of thousands of others who have remained silent, though in disgust.

It is disgusting that the two top men of this government stay mum, and turn a blind eye to all the disgraceful acts committed by the top men of the last regime.

Selective justice imposed, is a clear indication that we are nowhere near being a mature democracy.

This bloody Hambantota gamaya banda is trying to poach MPs? What do we have these days as MPs……………hoodlums, money launderers, criminals, murderers, rapists…………….the list goes on. So let him poach, he ain’t gaining much and Ranil ain’t losing much. This is happening because we have a bloody lazy ineffective bugger as the President of the country. This one time servant boy should be rotting in jail but he is free to roam the streets. The whole country has been a circus from the 50s.

Looks like some MP’s and people with short memories want White Vans, kidnappings, and ethnic violence, once again. It seems the Rajapaksa’s are not satisfied with what they have stolen from this country, and want their powers back. They will try to sabotage the present regime (who is not doing such a great job themselves) and make their play to get back into power. We are nation of fools and people who never learn lessons.

President Maithripala Sirisena instead of hiding in Dodangaslanda in fear of going eight feet underground should have had the courage and Leadership Quality to face the election results and accept the winning or defeat in Colombo. If he was available to take over, the then Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe would not have and should not have been allowed to be “transported” to Temple Trees by the “Hidden Spirit” – Thiru Nadesan, of outgoing President Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse. Did the President elect, the Civil Society Leaders, including the then living Rev. Madolouwave Sobith who toiled hard to get MR defeated realize or understand the “After Effects” of that crafty move. All attention was drawn to a “Coupe” that was to be staged and even Rani W saw himself all unexpected army of personnel, including the Chief Justice and AG were present. That DRAMA of “EXIT” by MR was planned well and the PM to be “CHOSEN” by the President elect for 100 day programme was trapped into an OBLIGATORY position and from there on -wards, all the hopes of making a quick CHANGE to meet the aspirations of 6.2 millions started eroding into frustrations and shattering all hope they had for that goal. Now, after nearly two years, we have seen and experiencing on a daily basis how those forces of vultures have raised their ugly heads and operating openly in all public affairs with the blessings and some times ignored by the Authorities down the line starting from the President. The President and PM have either not recognized or ignored a well carved out plan of “INFILTRATION” instituted by the High Command of the previous regime. Towards this effort, most UNEXPECTEDLY the Judiciary too appears to be utilized and from what is going on, any one can see how matters of Good Governance have gone STRAY and HIJACKED by these VULTURES. In another stage of this PLANNED PLOT, these “SECRETIVE” discussions have already commenced and the targeted pawns are the “DISGRUNTLED” backbench Parliamentarians who are to be lured and win their support to destabilize the Government. While this PLANNED PLOT is staged by the ex President and his camp, the Government too has come up with varying INITIATIVES, such as “Duty Free Car Permits”; “Salary Increases”; “Additional Allowances”; “Allow Sale of Car Permits and secure Enormous Profits” etc. to keep the “FLOCK” together. In this pursuit the Government has got into a PANIC MODE and completely LOST SIGHT and WILLINGLY IGNORED the PUBLIC VIEW, resulting in daily EROSION of Good Governance (YAHAPALANAYA). This POLITICAL GAMBLING- (“Staying in Power” and “Taking Over Power”) has been given and taken PRECEDENCE over PUBLIC & COUNTY,s WELFARE. Where are we HEADING?

      Douglas,

All of it points to how fragile this ‘democracy’ of ours is.

It might take 100 years after independence, but the country will collapse. It has to. This system is so unsustainable, it cannot go on.

When it happens, we can thank Ranil and Maithripala for all of it. They didnt do or couldnt do what had to be done. That’s it.

Why? That’s the million dollar question, the answer to which is found in the letters of the readers on this page.

From two (major) party politics moving toward three party politics will be good to Sri Lanka though this move is started by and managed in almost like in the world of animals in zoo. .

In the zoo we are having wolf and bear race since independent. Wolf always trick and pass time till the Bear get tired and sooner it felt tired and flatten wolf take the walk freely to winning lines of race.

However getting another monkey in to the race will add different flavor to the race and wolfs cant have free ride always.

Anyway lets welcome this move as it has new flavors..

Excuse for posting this, as it has no connection to this article. I thought that CT might post the news of the sentencing of the accused of the Nihal Perera murder.

As we all know this Murder case was reluctantly entertained by MR like the Hambanthota murder, due to pressure from outside. If not both cases would have ended like all other murders committed that time. What I would like to point out is that the conviction here is, part of the story and not the whole story. This ‘Atha Kota’ was a goon of the then Chief Minister Mahipala Herath. Prior to Nihal Perera so many had been murdered who were the informants of illicit felling of timber in the area. In short the informants were notified to the Criminals by the Police themselves. This timber racket had been operative for quite some time and all Police heads posted to Kegalle, have been in the pay of the racketeers.

Mahipala Herat in the late sixties was working in a Co-operative as a clerk, owning a push bike and nothing more. He took to politics as a UNPer and was successful in the ’77 election. Thereafter he crossed over to MR’s camp. Today he is a multi billionaire, owning houses with swimming pools. He owns quarries supplying crushed mettle and no one else is allowed to operate and compete. After making his money his golayas continued the timber business and poor Nihal Perera had to pay the price.

“I am at loss to comprehend ..”
That is because every one is uncomfortable asking the question: WHY?
My3 has been with the SLFP right throughout and was a key figure under MR there is nothing to say that he was not a party to the corruption that went on. If he had the integrity he now talks about he should have resigned decades ago. My feeling is MR was right when he said that he had files. Openly challenging MR would bring those files out.

Either Maithiri and Ranil are part of it or afraid of people. They don’t have the confidence in the people because they fear that Sinhalese masses are in a confused state. The corruption and racism are competing each other in opposite direction.

Rohan, Let me explain as I perceive, why no action is entertained on Rajapaksas, by Ranil and Maithri.

See the case of Avant Guard. Nissanka Senadhipathi was the business front for the Rajapaksas. Avant Guard was caught with a large haul of weapons by the container loads. Now Avant Guard as revealed was providing guns to ships as security. But there is no mention of our forces being detailed with the weapons to provide security for ships. Then is it that the ships were hiring weapons for payment. Unlikely as the Ship owners need not buy weapons from us as they can purchase guns direct, if it is for their own protection. As revealed by no less a person than the Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathy the business of sales had been carried in Nigeria running in to millions of Dollars. For whom? Obviously they were sold to Boko Haram, Somali Pirates, ISIS and any other Terrorist Organisations. When the truth was exposed America nor the UN was disturbed about the discovery. They down played the whole saga and even the ship has now been released. It is pretty obvious that Avant Guard was the go-between for the supply of arms to Terrorists the world over. It is for that reason our Poiliticians are gagged not to take action by these powers. They are arm twisting both Ranil and Maithri not to take action against the Rajapaksas for the misdeeds. They believe allowing things to drift people will forget with time. My only hope and the only way out is for someone to eliminate all the Rajapaksas, sooner the better.

Vedda, hating Mahawasma is second only to hating Rajapakshes – with or without reasons. And bashing Mahavamsa is not a new phenomenon. There was a time, if anyone wants to be seen like “modern”, bashing Mahavamsa is the first thing to do. And, that practice has got wings with the dawn of “bahu bootha” yahapalanaya.

Your some one who never be able to (or do not want to) understand the concept behind the M’vamsa. And under what context it has been written.

We all put so much of hope in Yahaplanaya and they have been an utter let down. I am told corruption is higher than MR’s time as the current ministers very well know that this Gov wont be elected next time and are trying to make more money than the 27 year reign of the PA in 5 years.

I was fed-up!!!!!! with the MR regime and I am now fed-up!!!!!! with the UNP/MS coalition gov too. It has been utterly disappointing for Sri Lanka. Under the guise of media freedom which I must admit we have much more than before this gov is taking us to the cleaners.

I think we should bring in Anura Kumara in the next time. I cant wait for this current term of MS to finish. I wish Anura softens his hardline and anti west approach with strong market oriented policies. We need a man of principles and ethics (which Anura seems to have) to lead this country and the people will get behind him in droves. I am certain about this

Calm Down People! You are after the wrong man. Let us start with the assumption, “Basil Rajapakse did not swindle anything from the people” and prove logically that it is true.

    Proof:

    1) Basil Rajapakse is a good Buddhist (He is the person who started one of the Buddhist TV channels to spread the Dhamma.)

    2) Therefore, he will not break any of the 5 percepts.

    3) The following is the 2nd percept. Adinnadana veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami. (I undertake the precept to refrain from taking that which is not given).

    4) No one gave him the money we are talking about.

    5) Therefore our initial assumption “Basil Rajapakse did not swindle anything from the people” is true.

The person Basil is not only a #1 fraudster but also a #1 manipulator. He has mastered the art of even deceiving the jailors faking health issues while he was in prison. I have no idea why people go behind him, even after knowing how manipulating person he is? The only reason that I can think, for him to get all these people to come behind is by using the mass wealth he made under his brothers rule. Another puzzling question is, how this guy is still free roaming the streets in SL after all that he did during the past regime? The current regime will have to pay a huge price very soon if this person is not put in permanently where he belongs.

Next two three months are real test time for the National Unity Government. That soup was concocted to resist American State Secretary John Kerry. The usual preparation took place in Yahapalanaya was only for Hillary to come to power. Chandrika may have to be given the pink slip to collect employment. Now there is a dilution in the planning circle of the Yahapalanaya. “Is it time to dissolve the National Unity?” They are not able to answer the question. So the Yahapalanaya has to increase the bata for the parliament pirates in this ad hoc manner.

There were news reports of multiple attempts of coups. One of that would have been sensible if Hillary had come. It would have been to worth to risk as political directions would have been predictable for Lankawe. Now nobody is sure of what to do. The constitutional reforms has been retracted a lot, assuming Trump will not have a political option in Lankawe, but may want a strategical support for them in the Indian Ocean. So Trump administration would not worry about whether it is UNP or SLFP. That was the stand of the Bush government. Secretary Condoleezza Rice did everything Old Royals asked for her. They did not look for UNP, unlike Secretary Kerry did. With Trump’s that stand, trying a coup is worth? What the senior Bush did when Iraq invaded into Kuwait after him telling that he is not interested in what Saddam was doing? Why provoke Trump for nothing?

That is why Dinesh opened it up in the Parliament. Dinesh, when he saw the final conclusion of the latest attempt, he took it to mention it in the parliament as he was sure one is not coming for another couple of months and he is out any legal tangling on that. That is what one can guess by the way things went. In any case Dinesh is not GL. When GL commented on Suicide Jacket he was put on the grill by Yahapalanaya. That time Yahapalanaya was under pressure by IC to diffuse any communal tensions build ups. GP said the jacket was to bring to Wellawatte and LTTE to be revived. It was during the second attempt. So GL was investigated, though Yahapalanaya did know 100% what a comedian GL is. Again, one can guess it was only for show to IC, not for any legal help for crime investigation. Now the entire circumstances are different. Joint Comedians are stronger. America is silent. Dinesh cannot be touched on any grounds.

Though Dinesh was not touched, Dinesh comments were not taken lightly. Though everybody did know the third eclipse on the Yahapalanaya had passed, every Dick, tom and Harry of the Yahapalanaya commented on Dinesh comment. The reason is the fear building in the National Unity. Coup horror movie is out of the theaters for a little while, but the nightmare of drooping tree, “The National Unity “ Yahapalanaya may collapse and fall. The Old Royal working on the broken leg now, instead of more risky path. They feel this sure path. Further they know America is forming in Lankawe a special unit of force called “Marine”. They introduce the “navy seal” too to Lankawe. This will help the Yahapalanaya leaders until Indian or American 7th fleet rush to any rescue mission. So they are cutting the tree at the root and nearby Ranil is standing and watering the tree, hoping it would re-sprout again.

One of Ranil’s good hopes is Wimal. Ranil did well on saving Champika. If he can fix Wimal’s problems he will have another hand. SLMC and that gang group is notoriously swing pendulum. Ranil knows that is the weakest point of his chain. So he no longer wants to mess with Gnanam, unlike earlier putting in arrest. Wijeyadasa had spoken to him. One may say Gnanam is quite now after that. But I have no idea what happened there. I don’t know if Wijeyadasa might have told Gnanam to keep quiet Until Trump start to pick up on Muslim. Ranil may come back to Gnanam if the Halal export goes wrong only. He needs that foreign Exchange.

It appears, now, the turn of the movie is on the hand of Trump, the American President elect. Until that all have put with this boring, ever repeating, 2500 years old, petty bribe and commission accusations. If you guys need a break to relax the leg or to pee, take a 15 minutes off at this dull time. We will the scenes tuned back soon with interesting climax.

When Mahinda Rajapakse comes back from China, he would have been tamed by China. China is not interested in individuals but only in their own benefit. Sri Lanka is a very important link in China’s plan to have influence over the Indian Ocean. To this end MP Mahinda will be tamed by China to work with the Yahapalana Government. We have already seen a signal from China when the Ambassador asked India to participate in projects with them in Sri Lanka.

In Sri Lankan politics you got only two choices:
    Bad or Worse
Either way the population or at least the majority are screwed.

Basil’s “come back” appears to indicate that he has got away with all the Ten Percent(s) and ‘extras’ he accumulated.

The FCID is a failure and so are the “judiciary”.

The nation is being ‘partitioned’ between “Sirisena Bootlickers & Co.”
    and “Rajapakse Thugs Incorported”.

    The future is bleak.

“The FCID is a failure and so are the “judiciary”.

Do the political masters truly want FCID and Judiciary perform their duties as the constitution, various laws and department rules demand?

      “The future is bleak.”

I am cautiously optimistic, please don’t ban my optimism.
