The presence of Buddhist monk Galagoda Atte Gnanasara, the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) at an event in Japan has given more credence to the suspicion that the Government was using the BBS as a catspaw in the violence against Muslims, possibly to divert attention from multiple crises it is currently facing.

Earlier, the President’s Secretary Austin Fernando assured Colombo Telegraph that Gnanasara was not part of the President’s official delegation. However, Colombo Telegraph reported, as confirmed by Fernando, that a close associate of the BBS monk, Ulapane Sumangala Thero, was part of the delegation.
Now it is reported that Gnanasara was indeed in Japan and had attended a function where Sirisena had to speak.
The President’s Media Division, however, insists that Gnanasara had arrived in Japan on a private visit before the commencement of the President’s tour but concedes that the monk had been present at a meeting organized by the Sri Lankan Embassy to enable the President to meet the Sri Lankan community in Japan.
However, the same communique by the President’s Media Division acknowledges that invitations were sent out by Ambassador Prof Dhammika Ganganath Dissanayake as far back as February 24, 2018.
Strangely, the Chief Executive Officer of BBS Dilanthe Withanage has told Daily Mirror that the Gnanasara’s visit ‘was not pre-planned’ nor aimed at the official visit of President Maithripala Sirisena.
The sequence of events has raised questions regarding the complicity of the Government in the recent violence against Muslims.
Gnanasara was present at the funeral of the Sinhalese man attacked by Muslim youth and has been caught on film discussing possible attacks on Muslims. Colombo Telegraph has also reported how STF personnel did not take any action when a Muslim man was being abused after being attacked, the attacker clearly claiming responsibility for the violence.

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is set to launch a political movement against racism and communalism, its leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said.
The party has taken this decision following the recent troubling events which unfolded in Kandy leading to loss of life, injuries and extensive property damage.
According to Dissanayake, the national movement will commence with a series of rallies aimed at eradicating racism and communalism. “We have prepared several rallies to launch the anti-racism program which begins on Wednesday, March 21 in Colombo,” he said.
Rallies will also be held in Digana on March 28, and in Matara and Ampara on April 3 and 8 respectively.
“The recent local government polls campaigns were fuelled by communalism,” he said adding that the Rajapaksa camp made gains by creating racial and religious divisions in the country.
Dissanayake said what is needed now is the creation of a national unity movement as opposed to communal politics.
“We will stand up against any political movement that is fuelling racism in the country and create a political movement for national unity,” he said, adding, however, for the time being political communalism has won.
“But I believe we will be able to champion national unity politics in the future through our efforts,” he said.

So, after all, as I said in a comment of a previous article, the priest whose rear looked very much like Rev. GG (Galagoda-aththe Gnanasara) was indeed GG. There is something funny in the whole incident reported. GG goes on a private visit to Japan. The Ambassador, a blue eyed boy of RW had given invitations “well in advance”. Putting two and two together, the Ambassador, Prof. DGD knew that GG would be there to be invited. It is customary for Sri Lankans outside the country to gather in any forum if the head of state were to come. But GG is not a resident of Japan. He was in Sri Lanka by the time the invitations were issued. I may be wrong but based on the information available I tend to believe that GG is invited whole heartedly and well in advance. When it comes to ethnic amity, GG’s record is pretty unacceptable. One may plead that he is now reformed but for that to be acceptable it would take a very long time. Therefore, one may misunderstand that a person of the caliber of GG is acceptable to both sides of the GGG (Government of Good Governance or the “Yahapalana” Government.) Further, since GG was linked to Sinhala Muslim disturbances it may be well misunderstood that the current Government too allowed the disturbances to grow on purpose, just as much as the previous Government did. Apparently the Rajapakse’s are regretting defeating the LTTE..
If the LTTE is still kicking around, the Rajapakses will probably do a financial deal and explode few bombs in the vicinity of the Sinhalese villagers/Buddhist Temples and blame the government in power for weakness in not fighting the LTTE.
Now all they can do is to bomb the poor Muslims but the political impact is not the same.
I wont be surprised if the Rajapakse’s now use the LTTE money and do a financial deal with one of the Islamic terrorist group such as Al Qaeda or ISIS and invite them to Sri Lanka and terrorize the Sinhala villagers adjoining Muslim towns.
Then get in to power , drive out ISIS or Al Qaeda AKA politely ask them to leave and deposit the money.
