The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama has strongly condemned the information presented by Kirama Wimalajothi thero about the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama at BBS conference, held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.
Issuing a statement today the ACJU said; “The venerable thero has misled those present, stating that the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama is a recently established and extremist organisation.”

The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama statement opposing the ideas expressed at the Bodu Bala Sena Conference on 2014 .09.28
The Bodu Bala Sena is unrivaled in the history of Sri Lanka in its campaign of insulting other religions and posing a threat to the harmony and peaceful co-existence between the ethnicities. It is extremely hurtful that they would choose to degrade, insult and humiliate Islam, a resplendent religion that teaches the great values of equality, brotherhood, and humanity; with a history of 1500 years and followed with unwavering faith by over 1620 million people worldwide.

Many media outlets reported excerpts of the speech made by the leader of the Bodu Bala Sena, Ven Kirama Wimalajothi Thero on 28 – 09 – 2014 in Colombo at its ‘Mahaa Sanga Samuluwa’ conference. We strongly condemn the false information presented by the venerable thero about the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama at this conference, held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium and attended by members of the clergy and the lay population. The venerable thero has misled those present, stating that the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama is a recently established and extremist organization.
The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama is the apex body that is tasked with providing religious guidance for the Muslims of Sri Lanka. This is an organization with no political affiliations. Established in the year 1924, it has since been engaged in its duties diligently and continuously, and the Muslim community of Sri Lanka carries out its religious and social work under its guidance.
The contributions of the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama to the motherland during the times of conflict in the past, and in the post conflict era are well recorded facts known by all. Labeling this responsible organization that constantly promotes religious coexistence, patience and unity, as an extremist organization by a religious leader, is a grave mistake.
This country has a security apparatus, and an intelligence apparatus. At a time when all these high-level organizations are issuing statements that there is no terror activity among the Muslims of Sri Lanka; we see it as truly amusing that the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama is being identified as an extremist organization by some elements.
We express our dissatisfaction in the strongest terms, at the expression of racist ideas at this conference held for the purpose of inciting tensions.
We would like to ask Ven. Vimalajothi Thero if he could present any evidence proving the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama’s involvement in inciting or supporting violence, at any time. We would also like to ask who could deny the fact that, even when the Muslim community was viciously attacked and their shops and properties were set on fire, it was the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama that urged them to practice patience and responsible behavior. Furthermore, we would like to emphasize that the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama has been an organization dedicated to peace, harmony and co-existence at all times.
We would like to question what right the venerable thero has, to label the Muslim community’s apex religious organization as an extremist organization. It seems that the venerable thero hoped to incite the Muslim populace by expressing such outrageous ideas, and therein start a new drama. On many previous occasions too, the venerable thero and members of his organization have attempted to prod the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama. At every such instance we have requested them to refrain from such activities. The venerable thero’s actions are contemptible, and should be rejected with disgust. The venerable thero should change his mind-set and his ways. The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama would also like to request that the venerable thero withdraw the wrongful statements made by him.
The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama also deeply condemns the attempts made at this conference to label organizations such as the Muslim Council and the Shoorah Council, which are engaged in community development and social work, as extremist organizations. We strongly denounce the actions of Ven. Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thera, who, with the immature intention of creating a great divide between the Muslim and non-Muslim community of the country ignorantly chose to interpret verses from the Qur’an and traditions of the prophet; in much the same way the four blind men described an Elephant. We are also in the process of producing the correct interpretation of the same as soon as possible. Many of the other ideas expressed at this conference too are extremely upsetting. The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama is studying these in more detail.
On behalf of the entire Muslim community of Sri Lanka, the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama humbly requests that the actions of those who insult religions should be immediately brought to an end, and that His Excellency the President and the venerable Maha Sangha should pay immediate attention to this issue.
It has become a global phenomenon for extremists to point the finger of extremism at others, to hide their own nature. We see most of the ideas expressed at this conference as being unconstitutional. Totalitarian Fascism is not an ideology that accepts the existence of any religion. The constitution has ensured the protection of all ethnic groups and religions, and presenting totalitarian fascist ideas to deny those rights, raises serious legal questions. We believe it is now time that all Sri Lankans including the venerable Maha Sangha and the moderate Sinhalese who form the vast majority of the population, came together hand in hand to reject such fascist ideologies and create an environment of peace and harmony in our motherland.

It looks like we Muslims need to stand up against these fascist monks and take up the challenge thrown at us, be it either through debates or through open letters, exposing their insanity and reckless mind-set before it becomes too late. They seem to be on a one-way street to commemorate the racial riots of a century ago, which to them seems their way of saying ‘we didn’t fail them in memory’. They have carried out their first test attacks already in down south SL, and are now hell-bent to carry out the next major pogrom to reduce the population by killing off innocent Muslim men, women and children Myanmar style, grabbing their lands and destabilizing them economically, whilst also laying their hands on the Muslims hard earned wealth. They need to be stopped in their tracts NOW, before we (ACJU) starts saying ‘We should have been better prepared for such a debacle’. Get the international community involved to watch-over new developments, rally support to oppose any Constitutional changes to remove or dilute minority rights. These elements are simply provoking the Muslims, and expecting a back lash of some kind, so that they can justify the attack on their homes, businesses, and kill them, like they did in Aluthgama.
The Muslims should not give them that excuse. There is a great deal of envy, just like there was during the attacks on innocent Tamils in 1983, when their homes were burnt and businesses destroyed. Didn’t this Wimalajothi lying thero give well published press interviews to many outlets that he is stepping down as the head of BBS, because he doesn’t approve the way BBS is going? Now all seems it is all good for him as he claps when gandassara say throw away jathaka potha(while he writes books on Jathaka stories.) He cheers when gandassara says stop thinking about “uncertainty” the most basic teaching of the Buddha and then claims their leader is the lord Budda. I don’t know what these so called Dr, Intelligent Wimalajothi takes we normal buddists are. These are rougues who uses robes as a cover to advance their private business/political motives. Looks like he got the call from MARA and GORA to continue, as Gandassara is too much of a firebrand and Wimalajothi is perfect cover for the MARA to put seal of approval on BBS. It is laughable the things they say, they invite Muslims to join hands with the organization while they are trying to garner the support of Hindus showing Muslims as the common bogeyman and inciting violence against them. Then goes on to say that, We are a nation of Sinhala Buddhist only. IMO, all the minority gps who supports these kind of scoundrels should get a beating for not seeing the reality they portray to the national unity. He says he has half million Buddist votes, and the king maker. I think they need to be taught that the majority of Buddist people have grown beyond the collective intelligence of village upasaka ammas.

This may sound insensitive to many of my Muslim colleagues.It is a fact that muslims have lived generations in this country and this is their country as well.Most of them are peace loving and co-existed with other races without any problem. However,over the years what I sincerely felt is they are compelled to propagate their religion by orders of Holy Quran. I have seen these verses read by VEN Gnanasara and I am quite sure that is true.This attitude definitely threaten the existence of other religions and cultures.Look what happened in Afghnisthan .They exploded Bamian Buddha statues following these verses.Now they are threatening to destro ”Borobudur temple”in Indonesia.If they don’t actively propagate their numbers and actively undermine other religions and culture there would not be this kind of animosity against them.They are knowingly or unknowingly threatening the existence of others whether we like or not we have to accept that as a fact.The extreme ”ahinsa” practised in pure buddism will counteract that threat is questionable.Muslims should do soemthing actively to show they are not threatening others existence and then situation will calm down.What BBS says is rights but how they try to handle the situation is bit skeptical.I am sure we don’t want our grand children to lead a subdued in an Islamized world practising Sharia law.Do we…I bet ”NO”.

Is Buddhism a religion or a way of life? In my opinion it is a way of life through Ahimsa. If you analyze this whole BBS show and targeting Muslims in Sri Lanka in a different angle, All I can see is this is an effort to revive Buddhism in Sri Lanka. Honestly if majority community question themselves am I a true Buddhist ? the answer will not be in majority.
So what best way to grab attention than to jump in the band wagon of Muslim basing ? This is a well orchestrated activity. BBS do not process such capabilities. In my opinion this is still in infancy there is lot more to come.
Imagine BBS having this sanga sauluwa without anti Muslim rhetoric and no Veranto ? much of the Sri Lankan Buddhist community wouldn’t have cared much and it would not have grabbed much attention either.
Can the SLG afford to have another ’83 ? I don’t think so as it will effect them staying in power. Ultimate goal of current SLG/MR Regime is consolidating power and stay in power for conceivable future. (as they have no other option other than to be inside prison) The loans given by China and land given to China does not come free, SLG will have to give assurance to the Chinese that china’s long term interest will be honored.
What BBS is doing is capitalizing on the weakness of rural Singahala population where the bulk of the voters come from. Only means of information for them is Rupawahini, Dinamina and whats said in the Pansala.
Kirama Wimalajothi thero clearly said he is distancing himself from BBS, now he is in the forefront of the org again, probably it was his conscious which made him to say the right thing then he must have got a call from a concerned party for him to make the ‘U’ turn.

Ultimate goal is not Buddhism, Sri Lankans or Country it’s only well being and continuation of their schemes.

Well said. In fact if the so called Buddists are true to their beliefs and practice Pansil then they will not have any animosity towards Muslims. In fact, they would be the best of friends and consider Muslims to be Buddists by practice too. Pansil is practiced by the majority of Muslims today in Sri Lanka. If ACJU and BBS have differences they can confront whichever way they want, leaving the average innocent citizens of both communities to live in peace. In my opinion both these organizations have not done any good to the communities they claim they’re representing (nor will they do in the future except creating further problems), ACJU is partly responsible for some problems that disturbed Muslims, e.g. their Halal business; now to the community what they are doing is lip-service as quoted below from the article.
when the Muslim community was viciously attacked and their shops and properties were set on fire, it was the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama that urged them to practice patience and responsible behavior.
This is like saying when someone’s house is on fire you preach Bana.
