The Minster of Media Keheliya Rambukwella today admitted that the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to United Kingdom, Chris Nonis has resigned.
The tragic comedy figured at a news briefing in Colombo today (Tuesday) evening by Media Minister, Keheliya Rambukwella. He admitted that the High Commissioner Chris Nonis has resigned. Under intense questioning, he used his mobile phone to speak to Minister of External Affairs, Professor G.L. Peiris. After a long conversation, Keheliya said he was withdrawing his earlier remarks because External Affairs Minister is saying he has not resigned.
But the shocking news came later. After the news conference ended, he told media representatives that Nonis resigned but it was not accepted. He said he should not be quoted.

Dear FORMER Sri Lankan High Commissioner to United Kingdom, Chris Nonis
RE: Nonis Resigned But Don’t Quote Me: Media Minister Keheliya.
Yes. Resign, Resign and Resign and keep whatever honour you have left.
If MaRa does not accept your resignation, just quit, do not go to work and take a hike in the Scottish Mountainous with the sheet. It is good for you to be with sheep rather than these rascals.

Dr No should resign, and go as planned to Birmingham, meet up with our Ranil, who will soothingly rub balm on his wounds and say ‘don’t worry old chap, you will get your revenge when we get in next year’. And it all ends happily ever after. Nice!
ps: watch out for the next episode in 2015.

So, what will Dr Nonis do? Put his self respect before ‘service to the motherland’, his principles before the pragmatic? Let’s see. We do, after all, have a tremendous capacity for rationalisation.
I recall Dr Colvin R De Silva once saying how in SL, ministers don’t resign their positions, they simply resign themselves to the position. Dr Nonis may well also choose to follow this hallowed national tradition.
/
Susantha / September 30, 2014
Nonis is NOT doing any service to motherland. JUST ONLY A TALKSHOP. NO ACTION. He does good service to Mcwoods by selling/ promoting their tea and build up business liks at the poor Sri Lankan tax payers money.

If there any decency in him, which I hope he has, he should give an emphatic NO to the President, because from time to time he will be meeting moron Vass who is monitoring the so called foreign service. Mr Nonis you don’t have to put up with this kind of treatment.

Rajapakshe can get on with them better than with RW or the like decent politicians. Birds of a feathher flock together charactor is what I clearly see it. Gamaya raja unahama una de we experienced by Premadasa, then again people to give a mandata even worst kind of another premsada – whichi nobody else PINNA buruwa MR – is a curese. That is their nature. They have that in their blood.
Rajaapkshe is the most virulent charactor as CBK and other few made it clear to the nation shortly before this man was about to be won. DJ and other that cough for their egoistic agendas cant know much about this man, people must not rely on them either.
We know perfectly well that nothing like LAW and oder is there today adequately applying whatever it is., it is the reason people or better said senior public servants incl VASU the anus mouth – to stay totally commma fallen patients. Sajin Vas should be the one to be thrown out lock stock and barrel. His behavior is arrogant and he is a menace. He has MR’s backing and it is well known that MR should let him go but is afraid of the dirty linen that will be washed. Our foreign relations are in shreds because of this jackass. Give him plenty to drink and send him on one of the highways in a fast car. But make sure there are no other motorists on the road. His arrogance will make him push the pedal faster and the rest will be history.
Sri Lanka’s situation is so grave in the international media and do we really have a desire to serve the country or serve self serving agendas. Sajin should get lost and the country will be a better place. MR should have the courage to remove all thugs and corruption. The whole bunch are so corrupt that they stink!!!

Here is a news release from G.L. Peiris, Minister of
External Affairs of Sri Lanka:
The attention of the Ministry of External Affairs is
drawn to reports in the social media, not in the
national media (because they are so patriotic they wil
not report when told not to), that Monitoring MP Sajin
de Vass Gunawardena assaulted His Excellency Christopher
Nonis, High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in United Kingdom.”
The Ministry notes that the incident has received undue
publicity and comments. Monitoring MP Vass Gunawardena, as
his title suggests, has been appointed to monitor and correct
deficiencies. For some time now, HE Nonis has not been behaving
responsibly and making ugly remarks about External Secretary
Kshenuka Seneviratne.Mr. Gunawardena has warned him several times
but he has not listened. Hence, he was forced to take the extreme
step of slapping and kicking him. They were very much a part of
his responsibilities as a Monitoring MP.
The Ministry wishes to re-iterate that Mr Gunawardena has been
empowered to take the similar course of action against any other
High Commissioner or Ambassador who does not follow instruction.
The Ministry notes with great satisfaction that High Commissioner
Nonis has duly recognised his mistake after considerable soul
searching. He has therefore decided to continue as High Commissioner
and not make any comments on the incidents. The Ministry appreciates
this position. HE the President has directed that High Commissioner Nonis could take the best medical treatment at government expense
for the injuries he suffered from any hospital in the UK.
The Ministry also thanks Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella who mistakenly said HE Nonis has resigned for eating back his earlier
remarks. This clearly illustrates that high esteem in which Mr
Rambukwella is held for his unimpeachable integrity as a Media
Minister. The Ministry is proud he has never made an inaccurate
statement since becoming Media Minister.

former sri lankan diplomat / October 2, 2014
Never in the course of my long career as a diplomat have I experienced, or heard of even in some backward rudimentary State, such a shameless behaviour from a senior government official. If the President has an iota of shame (honestly I don’t think he has) he would have sacked Sajin Vas Gunawardena immediately. It is widely claimed that the reason Rajapakse cannot do that is that he (Sajin) is the collector for Rajapakse and he has been given a Foreign Ministry post to enable him to travel the world under diplomatic cover and bank Rajapakse’s billions in foreign banks.
There is another aspect to this shameless incident. Minister G. L. Pieris and Secretary Kshenuka Seneviratne should also resign – but then they have no shame either!!
There is disturbing news afloat that High Commissioner Nonis may accept an apology and forget the incident.
Let me remind Chris Nonis that Sajin Vas slapped the High Commissioner, Sri Lanka’s foremost diplomat, and not just the person of Chris Nonis. Therefore, if Nonis accepts an apology he is compromising the post he holds in the same way that Sajin Vas defecated on it. Nonis must realise that the post he is holding was held over the years by personalities such as Sir Richard Aluwihare, Sir Claude Corea, Sir Lalitha Rajapakse, Prof. G. P. Malalasekera, Dr.M.V.P. Pieris, and Sajin Vas slapped them all, and if Nonis settles for an apology he is not only betraying all his distinguished predecessors but if also debasing the very post he hold.
What is in issue is not just the conduct of Sajin Vas but the integrity of Chris Nonis as well !!

Dr. Nonis is the best Sri Lankan High Commissioner we’ve had in London after Tilak Gooneratne. He single handed and fierlessly defended Sri Lanka at the hight of the difficult times.
The Sri London community in London and Sri Lanka needs him to stay in London as the HC.
I hope the President will deal with the arrogant thug by letting the countr’s legal system deal with him.
Let the judiciary convict him, make him a criminal and throw him into jail. Thefeafter, take away his civic rights away.
Let the President make this a lesson to all other thugs who are masquerading as parliamentarians/politicians.
This cannot be allowed to continue. MR owes the country to take serious action againt this thug
