Bodu Bala Sena To Recommence Its Battle Against Halal

The Bodu Bala Sena will recommence its battle against the Halal Certification to root it out entirely from the country, one of the organisation’s leading monks has pledged.

Galagodaaththe Gnanasara

General Secretary of the BBS, Buddhists monk Galagodaaththe Gnanasara said that although the group had stepped away from the battle against Halal because of the intervention of the Maha Sanga, the problem has not yet been resolved.

He said that although the All Ceylon Jamaiythul Ulema had promised to remove the Halal logo from products in the Sri Lankan market that promise had been broken. Although the authorities were still permitting products bearing the Halal logo to be available in the market.

    Why BBS can’t go to courts without resorting to thuggery? Market is full of imported halal products. Muslims have a fundamental human right to consume halal products.This is guaranteed by our constitution.

    If the problem continues ACJU should stop issuing Halal certificates to non muslims, even exporters. Only muslims must be issued with Halal certificates. Muslim super markets must be opened islandwide to sell hahlal products. Even halal product exports must be done by muslims.This cannot be prevented by BBS donkeys Since they have to change the constitution to do so. This will immensely benefit muslims.

      Patriot,

      Yes, First Halal Certification, for 9% People, 91% People have to eat Halal food,

      I guess Buddhist should bring Buddha Food Certificate and Hindus should start bringing Hindu Food Certificate and Christian should start bringing Christian Food Certificate, Then we will have all 4 Certificates in Market so all can eat what they want.

      Next is implementing Sharia Law, why don’t we implement Sharia Law also in Sri Lanka ?

        If it is there in singarpore perdominantly buddhist Thailand Why not here? It is compulsory for muslims. If there are problems Muslims will do the whole process it is their basic humen right.
        Halal means most of the cases to ensure that the substances come from vegetable origin. As for meet items it is already haram for buddhists Why fight for non halal.

        What some buddhists did in Mahiyangana and Kuliyapiyia were most disgusting, barbaric and not done anywhereelse in the world.

        Muslims have been most peace loving and passive. They are being unnecessarily and all of sudden provoked.

        100% of oil comes halal.In Islam if a person steal an item and sell it it is not halal. If some body loot oil from Iraq and sell it is not halal for muslims. SO why don’t you advsise the Goverment to stop import of halal oil? Further our migrant workers earn halal money from Midle east why don’t you stop this also?

    reading this article all i can laugh my head off.. becz for starters they are fighting against this halal issue without even no understanding of what halaal is! & it is evident that they just want to create ethnic disharmony, becz honestly they should really be about banning all kinds of slaughtering no matter slaughtered the halaal way or not! that includes animals as well as humanbeings!!
    i wonder whether they realize the whole way of life lord Buddha taught was peace and harmony and he chose to live a life free from it all..
    i doubt that these bbs know that coz they would if they actually knew anything about Buddhism!
    The BBS truly doesn’t know what Buddhism is all about.. they are thriving on the media hype and attention they get..

    There are 1.6 billion muslims in the world but but its only a maximum of 0.00000001% maybe of that whole population is creating havock in the name of Islam.. there are billions of muslims who are against the conflicts..
    but somehow the media focuses on Not the millions and billions of peace loving muslims but they focus on the minority who are creating issues and not on the majority who are against it..
    that too the people who have taken the side of the bad guys , if u actually try to see what they say, they actually have political reasons to side by these extremist and not really religious reasons..

    the same way the BBS is a that minority and they are getting all the negative attention.. but im sure all the rational intelligent humanbeings out there are capable of looking at the whole picture and realizing majority of the Buddhists who follow true Buddhism are standing against this..

    the biggest challenge we face as humanbeings is knowing the truth and being silent becz that’s the easier choice to make.. or stand up for the truth for the sake of humanity.. coz whether it be lord Buddha (pbuh), jesus Christ (pbuh) or prophet muhammed (pbuh), Moses (pbuh), their message was the same .. teach the way of life to guide people to live peacefully.. its sad that some fools use those names of those very religions to do the utter opposite! how silly and sad at the same time! i don’t know whether to call this ignorance, foolishness or greed.. sad..

    Faz, with the Lord Jesus the message is different..

    He didn’t come to ‘teach a way of life’ – He claimed to be LIFE.

    “I AM the Way,The Truth and The Life “.

    ====================================================

    They must immediately stop issuing to none muslims, but if any none Muslim wish to have it for exporting purpose, they must also use it locally, and we Muslims have the right for this Certificate ,it is our fundamental right-if the government & the good for nothing muslim congress leader,I can not help this but I have to say it, although I still hold him in high esteem and respect and I also know his hands are tied -I am talking about an honorable Muslim Politician in the government who has done somuch to the Party , and most of his services from the time he starts his early morning prayers , at home,at office in the field he works till his back breaks , even after a heart surgery he did not rest ,,he quickly started work ,today he is humiliated ,It is none other than Hon.Minister Fowzie , it is time he quits the government he is a pious man and he must have faith in God and quit for God’s sake & for community sake and most of all for his own dignity,, Muslims must wake up, there is absolutely nothing nothing at all ,any Muslim Minister can do to help the community the only person in the government who really cares & could have done is Minister Fowzie, but we must bear with him his hands are tied, so he must quit the government and join his Nephew Hon Azad Sally for better or worst,,, this will be more pleasing to God and honourable,,, let people like rauf Hakeem & Faizer Mustapha and the rest hang on what they want os power and money it will grip thier throats in thier death bed(ameen) for betraying The Muslim community – they are nothing but fakes, they are selling the religion and the community they will pay oneday for sure..

    I am very disappointed with Ranga I had lot of regard and hope in him, even if he had Joined the JVP, I would have not mind .but not Rauf Hakeem’s party rauf hakeem reminds me of King Saluan of medina during Prophet Muhammad sws time.

    ————————————————-

    About the Halal we need to form a citizen committee comprising Lawyers from all faiths who are none racist, I am sure we can find some who will support our cause , we need to take this first to The Courts and fight in a civilised manner for our fundamental rights ,keeping Silent and bowing our heads is no longer working – the more we bow our head i tolerance the more they keep knocking,of course we will not resort to their low level,let us first go directly and meet His Excellency The President & request for our rights to protected, our religious places to be protected , if he decline then we have the right to get a court order to obtain Island wide signature in Support of our rights, let us call on strong opposition members, Priest and scholars of all faiths who are men of justice to help us,, we must Inshala do this asap,if we don’t things are going to get extremly worst.& if we can not get justice from that too then we need to approach The International community & The Muslim diplomats and others, this is our stomach they wont to deny ,,,,, enough is enough,,
    ====================================================
    I have a Humble request to make to all our Muslim Brothers who can afford and who as a duty have been offering sacrifice during Dul Haj , to offer it to Rohingya Muslims suffering in bangladesh camps,Indonesian& Malaysian – camps ,it will be one of the greatest merit if you can come together – we will need 100’s of Cows & goats , please give it a thought & if any of our brothers are willing please send in your details to CT & I will get in touch with you (Inshala)-please give a thought of our Rohingya Muslims brothers & sisters – one thing for sure these are most deserving people and besides you can conduct the Qoruban without any fear or harassment as they will be done in Muslim populated countries..pls give it a thought,,,

    What should the govt. do about the slaughter of cattle?
    Written by adavoice // June 6, 2013 // Social // 61 Comments
    ==========================================

    The recent death of Bowatte Indraratana who set himself on fire in front of the Kandy Dalada Maligawa in protest of cattle slaughter, has given way to debates regarding the practice in Sri Lanka. Some parties claim that the government should completely ban the slaughter of cattle while others claim that it would alienate the non-Buddhist population in the country. Furthermore, elements state that beef could be imported in order to cater to the requirements while others claim that this is an unnecessary expense on the country. What do you feel about this? Should the government ban the slaughter of cattle or should the laws remain the same in order to give the public the right to choose? Should the government control the slaughter of cattle as it is done in India? Have your say.

    Here’s the Rajapakse BBS game plan relating to Ban cattle slaughter in Sri Lanka.

    Starting from cattle slaughter in Sri Lanka, later Rajapakses along with BBS will also ban pig,Goat and chicken slaughter.

    Thereafter they will Monopolise the whole of Sri Lanka’s Meat market.

    They will monopolise the slaughter, distribution and selling of these local beef, chicken, pork and mutton in Sri Lanka while selling them at a higher price.

    This is the same game plan they are planning ti introduce similar to the current Mafia who have monopolised Drug, Kasippu, ganga and casino business Mafia which is been monopolised under ruling cartel.

    The same local cows which are been slaughtered now, will be slaughtered underground and will be sold at a higher price by the Rajapakse, BBS business Mafia cartel who also currently have monopolised Sri Lanka’s Drug, Kasippu, ganga and Casino Business.

    This is the new version of Sri Lanka Governing Ruling Rajapakse BBS Mafia combination game plan.

    Don’t make Fish of one & Flesh of another
    ============================================

    Dr. Lynne Sneddon, who led a groundbreaking two-year study by scientists at Edinburgh University and the Roslin Institute in the U.K. proving that fish do feel pain, stated, “Really, it’s kind of a moral question. Is your angling more important than the pain to the fish?”

    Anglers may not want to think about it, but fishing is nothing more than a cruel blood sport. When fish are impaled on an angler’s hook and yanked out of the water, it’s not a game to them. They are scared and in pain and fighting for their lives. Michael Stoskopf, professor of Aquatics, Wildlife, and Zoologic Medicine and of Molecular and Environmental Toxicology at North Carolina University, said, “It would be an unjustified error to assume that fish do not perceive pain in these situations merely because their responses do not match those traditionally seen in mammals subjected to chronic pain.”

    Dr. Michael Fox, D.V.M., Ph.D., put it this way: “Even though fish don’t scream [audibly to humans] when they are in pain and anguish, their behavior should be evidence enough of their suffering when they are hooked or netted. They struggle, endeavoring to escape and, by so doing, demonstrate they have a will to survive.”

    fish: most of them contain mercury and this
    metal is highly toxic for humans.
    ==========================================

    Fish is considered one of the healthiest foods and rightly so. Everybody should eat it regularly, as it contains plenty of nutrients, such as protein, vitamins, minerals and omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for a balanced diet. But there are also dangers in consuming fish: most of them contain mercury and this
    metal is highly toxic for humans. It can cause serious health issues, particularly for young children. Pregnant women (and women who are planning to have children) are also advised to eliminate fish from their diet and shellfish that are rich in mercury. Other groups are less at risk, but should also reduce portions.
    The five fish pictured here – king mackerel (above), shark, swordfish, tilefish and albacore tuna – are all listed by the Food and Drug Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency as having the highest concentration of mercury and should not be consumed.

    Six Reasons Why I Eat Meat Every Day — Mondays, Too
    by Amanda Radke in BEEF Daily
    ======================================================

    I have to hand it to vegetarian and vegan activists, they know how to create a movement to rally around. Only a small segment of the U.S. population actually follows a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle, but these folks have been able to take their ideas mainstream. Universities across the country have adopted the Meatless Monday trend, and it seems like every time I pick up a consumer publication, there’s an article promoting meatless meals like tofu and bean burgers.

    ISix Reasons To Eat Meat Every Day of The Weekn the October 2012 issue of Prevention magazine, Mandy Oaklander writes, “If you’re a Prevention reader – and if you’re reading this, well, then, you are – you know we’ve always been fans of vegetarian eating. Now we’re taking the commitment to healthy eating one step further by making every Monday a meatless one. Check out our reasons for nixing the meat, and see how easy we’re making it for you to join us. Bring on the veggies! It’s easy. With no meat thermometers to check – and no scary feeling you’re about to poison your family with underdone chicken – vegetarian cooking is perfect for worrywarts.”

    The article, entitled “Six Reasons To Do Meatless Mondays,” says going sans meat is easy, eco-friendly, life-saving, affordable, kind and makes you feel sexy.

    Sorry, Prevention, but you’ve got it all wrong. Here are my six reasons to include meat in your diet:

    It’s healthy. There are 29 lean cuts of beef, according to USDA standards. Beef provides nutrients like zinc, iron, protein and B vitamins, and half of the fat found in beef is monounsaturated, the same heart-healthy fats found in olive oil.
    It’s easy. Using recipes from beefitswhatsfordinner.com, beef is an easy addition to a well-balanced meal. Simply fire up the grill or turn on the slow cooker, and you’ve got a healthy, simple meal that stars meat.
    It’s environmentally friendly. Cattle graze on land that is too steep, hilly or rocky for farming. Cattle aerate the soil and eat brush, which is good for wildfire management. Check out our Earth Day page to find more reasons why beef production is good for the planet.
    It’s affordable. Calorie-for-calorie, beef is more nutrient dense than vegetarian protein options like peanut butter, tofu or beans. You get more nutritional bang for your buck by choosing healthy, lean animal proteins.
    It’s kind. Cattlemen care about their livestock; it makes good business sense and it’s the right thing to do. Respectfully harvesting these animals to nourish people is a part of the circle of life, and something that ranchers take very seriously.
    It will make you feel sexy. Without protein as the center of my diet, I feel depleted of energy. Sure, vegetables and fruits are great, but without protein power, I’m not strong. And, being strong is sexy! Be inspired by all the Team Beef members who are out leading busy, active lifestyles, competing in triathalons, marathons and more!
    What are the reasons you eat meat? Let’s make Meat-In Monday the new trend!

    If they ban cattle slaughter & Import beef ,from one side we will be loosing a lot on our foreign exchange, but the government will receive income through high taxation & duty, making it impossible for the middle class & poor who are already struggling to exist leave alone survive, and also you wont know what you are eating,from mad cow disease, to many other for these are industrial meat , cattle fed with all sort of grains unlike our Cattle which is clean because it is grass fed.
    ====================================================
    100% Grass Fed Beef is your healthiest option in beef choices. It is lower in fat content than grain fed beef and contains higher levels of Omega 3 – the “good fat.”
A diet rich in Omega 3 fatty acids has been reported to prevent cancer and slow the growth of existing cancer. A sirloin steak from a grass fed steer has only one-half to one-third as much fat as a similar cut from a grain fed steer. In fact, Grass Fed Beef has almost the same fat content as skinless chicken, wild deer or elk. The 100% grass diet produces a very lean beef cow that is “90-95% fat free” and is lower in calories.
    With “the average American eating 66.5 pounds of beef per year, switching to grass fed beef can save you over 17,000 calories per year.” If everything else in your diet remains constant, you will lose about 6 pounds by eating Grass Fed Beef and you’ll keep it off!
    In addition, Dr. Tilak Dhiman of Utah State University, one of North America’s leading researchers on the benefits of CLA (conjugated linoleic acid, which is found in the fat of grass-fed cattle but only in small amounts in grain feed cattle) and one’s health, stated, “CLA could not just prevent health problems but could help people who already have chronic health problems get better…not only preventative but regenerative as well.” Current research with animals indicates that CLA not only reduces the incidence of cancer in animals but it also suppresses the growth of cancer cells.”
    Treatment centers suggest meat that is grass fed for patients recovering from cancer.
Click on this link to see what diet is suggested Cancer Recovery Diet
    Currently, animal studies suggest that CLA is:
    Anti-carcinogenic
    Reduces body fat
    Anti-diabetic
    Anti-antherosclerosis (heart disease)

    (Halal)-Shariah Strategy Caters to the Muslim Investor
    Shariah Strategy Caters to the Muslim Investor
    April 1, 2013
    We all have different reasons to invest our hard-earned money. It might be for a short-term goal like the purchase of a car or house, or a long-term one such as funding our children’s education or ensuring a more comfortable retirement. Investing can take on a religious significance, too. For a growing Muslim audience, investments must not only be able to achieve their goals, but also be compliant with the Islamic law. At Franklin Templeton Investments, asset managers with expertise in Shariah-compliant strategies are located in the key Islamic finance centers of Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates and Malaysia. Alan Chua, EVP and Portfolio Manager with Templeton Global Equity Group based in Singapore, talks about the unique aspects of managing a Shariah-compliant equity portfolio and why profits and principles don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

    Alan Chua
    Alan Chua, EVP and Portfolio Manager with Templeton Global Equity Group

    The principles of Shariah investing dictate that to be considered acceptable, companies must pass a certain set of criteria. Among them, the balance sheet structure should contain neither too many liquid assets nor debt, and the company should not engage in “haram,” (forbidden) industries such as alcohol, tobacco, gambling as well as specific foods considered non “halal,” or unpure. Advisers who are considered experts in Islamic law are integral to the investment selection and review process. Our portfolios are independently reviewed and endorsed by the Amanie International Shariah Supervisory Board, highly regarded for its extensive Shariah and technical expertise. The Amanie Scholars provide initial approval on investment objectives and strategy, as well as ongoing supervisory and monitoring services to ensure continuous adherence to internationally accepted Shariah principles and standards.

    Implementation of these standards can be subjective at times, as it is subject to the interpretation by different Shariah Boards, which is a challenge to us as portfolio managers. That can lead to a lack of homogenization of approach and can confuse potential investors.

    The Details

    For example, generally, a company that holds too many liquid assets may have Shariah restriction on eligibility. So one would think to eliminate the company. However, this is not always straightforward. It can depend upon the Shariah screening methodology applied by the fund adviser in the review process in which one calculates the company’s financial ratio. If a company classifies a large portion of its liquid assets as long-term assets, certain Shariah benchmarks will not include it as part of their liquid asset calculations. In addition, some benchmarks will use market capitalization as the denominator while others will use total assets – both of which could provide different results. Using market capitalization as the denominator is particularly difficult for value investors (like us) because as a stock gets cheaper and hence provides more long-term value, it could suddenly become ineligible as the market capitalization falls relative to the liquid assets or debt.

    Stocks that were compliant at one time but then later deemed non-compliant must be disposed of, but once again it’s all about details. For example, the frequency at which the company pays its dividends (once a year, semi-annually or annually) could make a difference to eligibility. Depending on the Shariah screening methodology, a company that accumulates large amounts of cash throughout the year before paying it out in the form of dividends runs the risk of becoming non-compliant. Once it pays the dividend, it may become compliant and hence an eligible investment once again. The grace period given to dispose a stock (once it becomes non-compliant) is also different from one benchmark or adviser to another. In the dividend example, if the grace period to sell non-compliant stocks is short you may be forced to sell it before it pays the dividend but conversely if your grace period is long, the stock could remain compliant by paying the dividend and reducing cash on the balance sheet.

    Such are the challenges of Shariah investing! But despite the constraints, we are able to find plenty of potential opportunities.

    In managing our Shariah portfolios, we leverage the same investment team and research process in place in the Templeton Global Equity Group at large. So the Muslim investor is essentially getting a subset of our broader portfolio, but one which is compatible with specific Shariah principles. Our team overall is finding potential opportunities in the healthcare, energy, and telecommunications sectors. European financials represent a sector our Shariah portfolios can’t invest in, but we’ve been finding a lot of value over the past year there in our other portfolios.

    By country, Malaysia represents one of the biggest markets right now for Shariah investing, and is growing because of its advanced national pension scheme. There is a mandatory monthly contribution into the national pension fund that grows with population and income levels. Other big centers include some of the Gulf States in the Middle East like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. I think the natural interest in Shariah investing is likely to be confined to Muslim nations, but it would not be surprising to find other countries also interested in offering an Islamic investment vehicle as there is a large and growing Muslim diaspora globally. So our potential investment opportunities could likewise continue to expand, and we think it’s an exciting time to be an investor in this growing space.

    Want to learn more about the fixed income side of the equation? Read about Islamic bonds (sukuk) in our Beyond Bulls & Bears post, “Is Islamic Debt a Salve for the Risk-Averse?”

    WHAT ARE THE RISKS?

    All investments involve risks, including possible loss of principal. The value of investments can go down as well as up, and investors may not get back the full amount invested. Stock prices fluctuate, sometimes rapidly and dramatically, due to factors affecting individual companies, particular industries or sectors, or general market conditions.

    Special risks are associated with foreign investing, including currency fluctuations, economic instability and political developments. Investments in developing markets involve heightened risks related to the same factors, in addition to those associated with their relatively small size, lesser liquidity and lack of established legal, political, business and social frameworks to support securities markets. Such investments could experience significant price volatility in any given year.

      Silva,

      If Halal is a business Rajapakses are getting ready to Monopolise it.

      Once they stop Cattle slaughter in Sri Lanka, Rajapakses will slaughter Cattle in Army camps and distribute them across Sri Lanka while mixing with foreign Beef and sold at a higher price.

      This is similar to how they monopolised Drug, Kasippu and Ganga import and distribution business. All the rival distributors are dead and gone and they are in charge of it.

      There is nothing like show business and Rajapakses have mastered it.

      Let’s see which Ulamas are fooling the nation.
