The event’s reverberations have haunted its orchestrators over the years, contributing to the anti-Americanism that accompanied the Shah’s ouster in early 1979, and even influencing the Iranians who seized the U.S. Embassy in Tehran later that year.

Rings so true. US/UK interfered and ousted a democratically elected PM and installed a puppet so that they could protect strategic interests of the West.
Six decades after the disastrous coup and the coronation of a puppet , the west has not learned any lessons. The trajectory of the Muslim world could have been completely different if the government was allowed to function. Iran, could have been a beacon of light to other struggling democracies in the region, we could have had far more interaction and cooperation among the Muslim world, between the ME and the West and perhaps avoided the mutual mistrust the ME and the West, that has led to many conflicts.
The west continues to be the bane of the Muslim world. The well know secret is that a stable Muslim world is a threat to the survival of the decadent west. In the calculation of the West, that cost of disruption is miniscule compared to the cost of engagement.
Engagement would mean competing with a resurgent Muslim world, for both economic and political power and control. The risks are huge; particularly a loss of clout would ensure the decline of influence the west has over the rest of the world.
Subterfuge and sabotage are essential tools of the west to ensure economic hegemony. This hegemony affects not only the Middle East, its reach is spreads far and wide including poor nations like us and the Southern American countries.
Of course I want to also respond to puerile comments from Sinhala Chauvinists who think that Islam and Muslims are evil, and all what I have said is a load of bunkum; remember the West didn’t come to your rescue when the chips were down, and they still haven’t come to your rescue even after defeating the LTTE.
This is because you don’t matter to them. The only time you become important to them is when you could be a pawn in their game of chess to be used and discarded. And that would be to escalate a conflict with India and China or with the Muslim world.
An early manifestation is the BBS and Sinhala Ravaya. The other is the simmering anti Sri Lanka campaign in TN and the fishers of the southern tip in Rameswaram.
The Sinhala Chauvinists would of course rather nibble at the crumbs dished out by the west than put up with the truth, that we could do better as a united peaceful Sri Lanka.
Bur then who wants Demalas and Hambayas tell us what to do, nedha?

“Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday accused Israel of being responsible for the military takeover in Egypt, saying that he has “evidence” that points to Israel’s involvement.
According to the Turkish newspaper Today’s Zaman, Erdogan met with members of his party in Ankara on Tuesday and said: “Israel is behind the coup in Egypt, we have evidence.”
The report also said that Erdogan mentioned the words of a French Jewish intellectual, who he did not name, who said in 2011 that the Muslim Brotherhood will not take power even if they were to be elected since “democracy is not the ballot box.”
In March, reconciliation efforts between Israel and Turkey began after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Erdogan to apologize for the botched raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla in 2010 that killed eight Turks and one Turkish-American.
Erdogan suggested that normalization of ties with Israel would take time, hinting that Turkey wanted to ensure the victims of the flotilla raid were compensated and Israel remained committed to the easing of restrictions of goods to Gaza before restoring relations. The two countries have yet to decide on the exact sum of compensation that would be given to the flotilla victims’ families.”
